The 26th episode.
From the same artifact that trapped Manos, a disgruntled and power-hungry Egyptian sorcerer named Kal-Roh seeks the Staff of Obeidiance from one of Egypts Pyramids. Finn and Twilight are sent to stop him and they must contend with him and the controlled spirit of Anubis (locked in a statue). It ends with Anubis freed and Kal-Roh punished...severely. Meanwhile, Z-Squared and Sir discuss what happened at the end of the last fic.
Or, at least, that's what happened in the original. In the re-written verison, Marceline gets a taste of Z-Squared's power when she peers into his head while he meditates.
- A Mind Is a Terrible Thing to Read: Actually, more like a soul is a terrible thing to sample. To see what's going on with Z-Squared, Marceline uses her soul-sucking ability to have a nice peek...and is soon met with ominous and somewhat demonic visions. It's his true form, by the way.
- Bad Powers, Good People: This is the first time in the series when Marceline uses her soul-sucking abilities to a harmless degree. She gets more than she bargained for.
- Berserk Button: Don't you DARE steal Mr. Plotter from Megatron.
- Big Creepy-Crawlies: The scarabs that devour Kal-Roh. Doubles as a Shout-Out to the remake of 'The Mummy'.
- Call-Back: The Punitor and Z-Squared's rising power are plot points here. The Legion of Musicians are also mentioned.
- Also, the rubber duck from 'Beast War's returns as Megatron's buddy again! He's even given a name: Mr. Plotter.
- Captain Obvious: Played for Laughs when Finn calls Kal-Roh tough. The villain promptly tells him to stop stating the obvious and die like a man.
- Companion Cube: See above.
- The Dark Arts: Kal-Roh turned to them for the sake of attention.
- Dishing Out Dirt: Kal-Roh can manipulate sand, even creating constructs!
- Duct Tape for Everything: The crack of the Punitor is sealed by duct tape.
- Eaten Alive: The main source of Kal-Roh's punishment.
- Elemental Armor: Kal-Roh can create stone armor to protect himself.
- Expy: Between his motifs, skills, and original theme before it got changed, Kal-Roh just HAS to be based on Kan-Rha!
- Generic Doomsday Villain: Kal-Roh. Finn even calls his plan "So cliched, it hurts."
- Groin Attack: Finn delivers this to Kal-Roh as the villain's plans go up in flames.
- Unusual Euphemism: Yep. Right in the 'Scarabs'.
- I Love the Dead: One of Kal-Roh's crimes was defiling the dead. Sir saw this as the last straw for him.
- Laser-Guided Karma: Discord, the moment he appears, is smashed through a wall by Megatron. He was the one who caused Finn to be blamed for Mr. Plotter's disappearance.
- Load-Bearing Boss: In all fairness, though, the room fills up with sand right after Anubis lets the two go after Kal-Roh has been punished.
- Magic Staff / Mind-Control Device: The Staff of Obedience. It can even control GODS of all things!
- Meditating Powerup: What Z-Squared seems to be going through whenever he does so. A sinister red aura keeps surrounding him and odd smoke is doing the very same. Looking into his head also brings out terrifying visions of hellfire and such.
- Mind over Matter: One of Kal-Roh's skills. He puts this to deadly use when using sharpened jewels in places of knives.
- No Kill like Overkill: Kal-Roh's punishment? Being devoured by Scarabs in a painful manner and his remains buried under pile upon pile of sand.
- Oh, Crap!: Sir, upon seeing Kal-Roh has escaped.
- On the flip-side, Kal-Roh when his staff is broken.
- Right Behind Me: Kal-Roh, upon being handed Mr. Plotter, is subject to this. He makes a wise decision to just give the duck to Megatron.
- Sealed Evil in a Can: Kal-Roh serves as this.
- Small Name, Big Ego: Kal-Roh, to a P.
- Can't Take Criticism: What lead to his revenge.
- Take Over the World: Kal-Roh decides to do this.
- Villain Teleportation / Weaponized Teleportation: Kal-Roh can do this, gaining a moment to Shoryuken his foes.
- Villainous Breakdown: A minor one. Kal-Roh is panicking when the Staff is destroyed. He's got every right to...
- Wrecked Weapon: A stray blast of magic from Twilight destroys the power source of the Staff of Obedience.
