It's Halloween, but due to an accident years ago where four teens died, the gang aren't really allowed to celebrate. Archie and Betty, with Dilton's help, decide to show Reggie a real Halloween as he's never had one. Veronica decides to throw a ghost party at the Babylonium to celebrate her favourite holiday. Ethel escapes from the Sisters Of Quiet Mercy and she helps Jughead find out more about the Milkman at Veronica's party. Toni, Clay, Kevin, and Cheryl perform with Veronica at her party, and Cheryl and Midge confide in each other about their respective secrets.

Tropes

  • Almost Kiss: Archie and Betty almost kiss on her porch, but are interrupted by a furious Alice, who demands Betty come inside at once.
  • Anachronistic Soundtrack: Although Season 7 is set in 1955, Toni, Clay, Kevin and Cheryl perform "Rose Tint My World" at the Babylonium, a song from The Rocky Horror Show, which premiered in 1973.
  • Bookends: Archie and Betty finally share their first kiss after dancing around each other since 7x01. Throughout the series, Archie and Betty danced around their feelings before finally getting the timing right in 5x19. This dance started on Betty's porch in the Pilot with Archie rejecting Betty because he didn't feel good enough for her. Here, in the final season, they are on a date and almost kiss in the very same spot, in front of Betty's door.
  • Cliffhanger:
    • Archie is told by Frank that Reggie and other Bulldogs were in a car crash and they don't know if there are any survivors.
    • Jughead finds Ethel with a knife standing over the dead body of the Milkman Killer.
    • While Kevin, Clay, Toni and Cheryl are talking at Pop’s, Evelyn can be seen eavesdropping.
  • Easily Forgiven: Ethel is friendly to Jughead despite him not contacting or trying to help her out of the Sisters of Quiet Mercy.
  • Easily-Overheard Conversation: Evelyn picks up a Pop's order just as Cheryl is talking about what their group did, and Evelyn pointedly spies Toni and Cheryl holding hands. Completely unrealistic that she can hear them as she's not close to their booth and the diner is packed and loud.
  • Grand Staircase Entrance: Betty comes down the stairs to her living room where the boys are waiting and they all look at her admiringly as she asks what they think of her costume.
  • Grave-Marking Scene: At the graveyard, Archie walks off on his own to visit his dad's grave. Betty notices he's gone and finds him there. They reminisce about their childhood memories.
  • Halloween Costume Characterization:
    • When Archie and Betty were kids they dressed as Tom Sawyer and Becky Thatcher.
    • Archie dresses like an Old West sheriff and Reggie like Buck Rogers.
    • Betty dresses as Goldilocks.
    • Veronica comes to school in a sexy witch outfit.
    • Julian and his gang of Bulldogs dress as skeletons.
  • Halloween Episode: Takes place on 29-31 October 1955. Archie, Betty, and Reggie set out to give Reggie his first Halloween experience, with help from Dilton. Veronica throws a ghost bash at the Babylonium complete with racy performances and musical numbers. Jughead and Ethel attend the Pep Comics Halloween party to try and find out who wrote the Milkman comic. Julian drives around with his followers vandalising.
  • Haunted House: What Archie, Betty, and Reggie think they're hanging out in, but actually turns out to be the murderous Milkman's den.
  • Held Gaze: Romantic. Archie and Betty, before their almost kiss (see above).
  • Imagine Spot: Betty watches Archie and Reggie work on the jalopy together and has a fantasy about hooking up with both of them. She snaps out of it when they ask her a question.
  • Love Triangle: Downplayed. Between Archie, Betty, and Reggie. Betty has expressed interest in both and they both like her, but it's clear that Archie and Betty have a strong connection, and Reggie bows out after seeing them share a moment.
  • Rule of Three: When Reggie asks, Betty lists her and Archie's three tenets for a 'real Halloween':
    • 1. Trick or Treating. They enlist Dilton's help to get around the 'no teens in the streets' ban.
    • 2. Visit a graveyard. Betty talks with Reggie, then goes to find Archie who is visiting his father's grave.
    • 3. Necking in a haunted house, which provides the twist that Reggie leaves after seeing Archie and Betty share a moment at the cemetery, resulting in Archie and Betty's first kiss in the '50s.
  • Sexy Whatever Outfit: Veronica's witch costume.
  • Shout-Out:
  • Spooky Animal Sounds: Invoked. Betty and Reggie have fun with this at the cemetery as they do wolf howls at the moon and laugh.
  • Stylistic Suck: Alice and Hal’s Halloween special.
  • Terror at Make-Out Point: Downplayed. Archie and Betty kiss in the haunted house but stop as Betty sees a Milkman outside the window and wants to leave. As they go, milk bottles reveal they were actually in the killer's house.
