The gang begin the fight to save Riverdale, starting with preventing Hiram from taking over their former high school. But Hiram also has his own plans for the rest of the town.
Tropes:
Financial Abuse: Chadwick freezes Veronica’s credit cards to get her to come back to New York City. It doesn’t work, and she rightfully calls him out on it.
La Résistance: The main cast use Riverdale High as their base against Hiram, with Jughead, Betty and Veronica working as substitute teachers alongside Toni, Kevin and Archie.
Parental Favoritism: Alice refuses to hear any negative word about Polly from Betty, and yet Polly is out all night, doesn’t spend time with Dagwood and Juniper, and is heavily involved with The Ghoulies right next door.
Struggling Single Mother: Polly is involved with The Ghoulies and is doing criminal activity. While Alice helps her with childcare, she doesn’t have the education to get any other kind of job above minimum wage.
Sucky School: Surprisingly averted with Riverdale High. Despite Hiram’s budget cuts and poaching teachers and students for Stonewall Prep, it looks pretty good. The main cast alongside Principal Weatherbee plan to prevent this trope as well.
Tragic Dropout: Polly was never fully shown graduating from high school and aside from some time on the west coast, Polly spent her time with the Sisters Of Quiet Mercy, The Farm and rehab. So unless she got her GED in any of those places, Polly doesn’t have the education or skills to get most jobs, especially in a Dying Town like Riverdale. So it’s no surprise that she turned to criminal activities out of desperation to support her kids and Alice.
Wham Shot: The episode ends with Polly being chased by the same truck with the skeleton from the previous episode, both implying her potential murder and that there’s another Serial Killer in town.
While working on fixing up Archie's house, Archie and Betty talk and bond a little before realizing they could both use a shower from all the hard work. When the pair asks each other at the same time if they want to go first, they spontaneously decide to take one together, with wild, enthusiastic abandon.
