One thing a lot of people don't know about me? In college, I was on the varsity fencing team, and the debate team. My favorite philosophical argument was, "If you could go back in time and kill Hitler, would you? I would always say yes.
Tabitha

Title from: Angels in America (1991)

Tabitha discovers she can time travel when she is targeted by Pickens.

Tropes

  • Accidental Time Travel: How Tabitha learns of her powers.
  • Archangel Raphael: Guide to Tabitha and Guardian Angel to her and her family.
  • Bad Future: Tabitha travels to the future after figuring out her tether. In it, Pop’s is damaged and the entire town is razed and covered with ash.
  • Blackmail: To keep Pickens and the FBI away from Pop’s in 1968, Tabitha gets in touch with J. Edgar Hoover and threatens to publicly reveal his dirty secrets (namely, his lists of activists and that he doesn’t trust Lyndon B. Johnson) unless he calls off the raid and fires Pickens. He complies.
  • A Day In The Lime Light: Tabitha is the main focus in the episode, with the rest of the cast either shown in the beginning or not appearing at all.
  • Dropped-in Speech Clip: The voice of Bobby Kennedy telling the crowd in Indianapolis that Martin Luther King had been killed is heard through the radio in Pop’s.
  • Flashback Echo:
    • Tabitha 'remembers' her Vale counterpart's encounter with the Archangel Raphael.
    • When Tabitha confronts Percival in the curiosity shop, there's a flash to when Mr Cypher briefly showed his hideous face to her.
  • A Form You Are Comfortable With: Why Raphael appears to Tabitha as Jughead, Toni and Betty. Otherwise, she would go insane.
  • Generation Xerox: Both Artie and Archie Andrews are war veterans with a strong moral compass.
  • Get Back to the Future: Tabitha's aim throughout the episode.
  • Go Mad from the Revelation: What happens to Officers Pickens and Keller in 1944 after the Archangel Raphael shows them his true form.
  • Identical Grandson: Artie Andrews, Archie's paternal grandfather, is seen for the first time on the show, played by KJ Apa.
    • While it seems like Percival is this trope, by the end it’s strongly implied that he’s immortal.
  • Internal Reveal: Tabitha discovers the powers of the gang.
  • Politically Incorrect Villain: Pickens in every timeframe.
  • The Reveal: Tabitha has time travel abilities and it’s starting to be implied that the gang’s powers were not caused by the bomb.
  • Rule of Three:
    • Tabitha travels to three periods in time: 1944, 1968 and 1999. Correspondingly, the Archangel Raphael visits her in three different forms: As Jughead, as Toni, and as Betty.
  • Shown Their Work: Pop’s once placed an ad in the 1944 version of the The Green Book, a Real Life travel guide for black travelers and families to avoid “sundown towns” and find safe places to dine, shop and rest. As a black-owned establishment in a non sundown town, Pop’s would be considered a highly safe place.
  • Super Team: Archie, Betty, Jughead, Cheryl and Tabitha officially become this.
  • Time Travel Episode: Tabitha travels back in time.
  • Ungrateful Townsfolk: Despite everything Pop’s has done economically and culturally for Riverdale, many of the townspeople are happy to see it replaced by a train station.
  • Would Hurt a Child: Both Pickens and the people of Centerville are perfectly willing to harm an infant alongside her parents, simply because they’re black.
  • You Cannot Grasp the True Form: Archangel Raphael tells Tabitha that humans cannot handle this.
  • You Can't Fight Fate: When she finds herself in April of 1968, Tabitha's first thought is to stop the assassination of Martin Luther King Jr. but Raphael tells her that it's a fixed point in history that can't be stopped. Tabitha fears that Riverdale’s future is also a fixed point, but is determined to stop it.
