The Devil pays a visit to Rivervale.

Tropes:

  • Angst? What Angst?: Toni’s disappearance isn’t talked about and Anthony is nowhere to be seen despite him being put in Betty’s care.
  • Continuity Nod: The Devil has already been shown to travel through Riverdale on occasion for business purposes in the tie-in comic story "Chock'lit Shoppe of Horrors", and Pop trading his soul to keep the diner in business and save his father from going to Hell is taken from the conclusion of that comic.
  • Deal with the Devil:
    • Kevin sells his soul for fame and fortune.
    • Jughead sells his soul to write again.
    • Pop Tate exchanged his soul for the soul of his father and the Devil wanted to claim the diner but Tabitha poisoned him with Tears of the Virgin Mary which she spilled around the diner's doors.
  • The Devil Is a Loser: Pop and Tabitha manage to make him one, anyway. "Louis" seems to be an Invincible Villain until the milkshake scene.
  • Did You Just Scam Cthulhu?: Tabitha gets out of the deal by tricking Cypher into drinking a milkshake with the "secret ingredient" of tears from the Virgin Mary. She and Pop have also drunken it and doused the diner to make it consecrated ground so the Devil can't claim any of them.
  • It Was a Dark and Stormy Night: Jughead tests the waters of his curse with an attempt at this.
  • Laser-Guided Karma: Nick St Clair getting dragged to Hell is something that he clearly deserves.
  • Louis Cypher: Veronica openly lampshades it with "cute" when she realizes who Mr. Cypher is.
  • My God, What Have I Done?: Betty when she realizes Cypher tricked her into killing Glen.
  • Mythology Gag: The concept of the Archie gang almost casually selling their souls for worldly pleasures is taken in part from the 1962 story "Mr. Inferno", where a thinly disguised Satan signs Betty into a contract to get Archie, only to be found out as a double-dealer that once promised Veronica the same thing; terrified of the girls' wrath, he retreats back to Hell, declaring both their contracts null and void. Due to the novelty of Betty and Ron making a pact with Lucifer, it has since been republished several times in recent years and become something of a fan favorite.
  • Something Only They Would Say: Betty is reluctant to believe she's talking to the Devil until he channels Hal identifying where he took Betty for shakes every week.
  • The Bus Came Back: Nick St Clair returns, and he’s worse than ever: he’s a corrupt senator, has sexually harassed several women, and is very willing to cheat on his spouse.
  • Tricked into Signing: When Veronica rants on how the Devil could claim her soul, Reggie admits he slipped the contract into the various invoices Veronica signs every week.
  • Unusually Uninteresting Sight: Everyone in town takes it totally for granted the Devil himself is in Rivervale. Veronica just treats him like any other business opponent.
