    General
  • It's become a Running Gag that in almost every volume some unfortunate person will get to witness Myne suddenly collapsing without warning, receiving a shock that makes them take "she's Delicate and Sickly" seriously.
  • Ferdinand's secret room becoming his "lecture room" and Myne mentally calling it that even when she's not actually inside it receiving a lecture.
  • Every time Myne spreads the "happiness" that is the title of "Gutenberg" around, with the only person reacting with genuine joy and excitement of getting it granted to her being fellow Cloudcuckoolander Heidi.
  • It's a highbeast made in the form of a cute red panda, not a demonic extremely dangerous feybeast called grun!
  • Myne's prank of teaching Ferdinand anime tunes backfiring, be it via having to hold her laughter while watching Ferdinand playing one of them in front of a high-status audience or having to play one of them herself during her social debut as Rozemyne because the new lyrics Ferdinand wrote for it are appropriate.

Part 1

    Volume 1
  • Myne gets the idea to make shampoo when she sees her mother and sister bring in several avocado-like fruits they intend to press for oil. She asks Tuuli for one, but as her sister pulls out a cloth and begins explaining how to use it, Myne has already put a fruit on the pressing board and used a mallet to give it a tremendous WHACK, splattering oil everywhere. It suddenly occurs to Myne that wrapping a cloth, like the one Tuli was pulling out, around the fruit would be good to avoid making a mess, like the one she just made. Cue Effa walking in to see what happened.
  • After Myne invents shampoo, Ralph compliments Tuuli on her hair. Myne notes her reaction, and has an internal laugh about it. Then Lutz compliments her himself, causing her to nearly freak out.
  • After the first meeting with Myne, Benno discusses his first impressions of her with Otto and Corrina. He and Otto agree that she is abnormal. Corinna dismisses their examples (quickly learning how to write, doing calculations with large numbers, too clean, uses adult words) as them overreacting. Then Otto adds that Myne endured Benno's strictest glare without flinching. Corinna, who was raised by Benno since she was a young child after the death of their father, immediately agrees that Myne is abnormal, since no normal child could possibly endure Benno's glare!
  • One day, Effa and Gunther call Myne for a chat and very uneasily gift her a knife, which normally symbolizes that she can now go to the forest to gather alone and stay in the house unsupervised. Myne makes a mental note that they didn't have much choice in the first place, what with Tuuli starting her work as an apprentice seamstress and not being available to look after her any more. She thinks "You don't have to look so unhappy about giving it to me!" but doesn't say anything, and even she notices that the gift is given against their better judgment.
Myne: (out loud) I will have Lutz or somebody else with me at all times when going to the forest. I promise!
(thinking The relief on their faces after I said that was just disgusting. Absolutely horrible. Sigh! I hate this body!)

    Volume 2
  • The volume begins with Tuuli and Effa preparing themselves to cheer Myne up, fully expecting her to fail her interview with Benno due to an apparent lack of preparation and inexperience. Cue their shocked faces when Myne reveals that she and Lutz will be accepted.
  • After Myne washes Corinna's hair with her special shampoonote , Otto quickly asks Myne if she doesn't have something important to go do right now. Myne, having once been old enough to know what's up, promptly squeezes him for the nails she needs.
  • After Myne instantly collapsed due to overexcitement, she wakes up in a bed prepared by Corinna. Not only is she about to get a scolding from her parents for walking around without Lutz without telling them, Benno gets really angry when he has to repeat himself several times that she mustn't do anything alone anymore.
Benno: WHAT! IS! WRONG! WITH! YOU! I said go home!
  • When Myne sees a trombe popping up, Lutz hurriedly tells her to run away to the other side of the river. After he and the other kids in the forest kill the trombe, he finds Myne near the river. She couldn't make it to the other side because she got tired.
  • While the wood is being steamed, Myne gathers edible plants. After she returns to Lutz, he examines what plants Myne picked up and at least one third of the plants she gathered are to some degree poisonous. The next day she gathers mushrooms. And again, she picks up lots of poisonous ones (slightly over 10%). Lutz tells her to just give up and to always show him her bounty before taking it home. And if she does take it home, to always show it to somebody else before she starts food preparation.
Myne: (thinking) ...I just don't get it. How does this keep happening?
  • In the second incident involving a trombe, Gunther comes back from cutting it down with a big log from the trombe (that can be used to make valuable fire-proof furniture) and tries to impress Myne by mentioning he cut it down himself and comparing it to the small branches Lutz brought back. However, since the smaller branches work better for making paper, Myne is much happier with Lutz's harvest.

    Volume 3
  • Benno runs into Myne's overprotective father while leaving town carrying Myne on his shoulders. While Benno quickly clears things up by telling Gunther who he is, the hilarity of the situation isn't lost on Otto, who has a lot of trouble not laughing at the situation.
  • At their baptism, the children are taught the creation myth and religious doctrine. Myne sees that the proper praise stance is basically... Well, in gamer terms, the Praise the Sun stance while standing on one leg (which also looks like the logo to a Japanese company), then flopping down to a Dogeza position. Myne tries so hard not to laugh that everyone else think she's sick, and take her to another room to rest. She ends up wandering out of the room and gets lost, then a woman finds her and brings her to an honest-to-goodness library, the one thing in the entire world Myne has wanted. Myne is so happy, she spontaneously goes into the praise stance perfectly.
  • In episode 14, after Myne performs "The Crushing" on the arrogant High Bishop, (basically a mana version of Force-choking) until he passes out, Ferdinand takes over the negotiations. There's a shot, several seconds long, which shows four apprentice priests straining with the effort of trying to move the High Bishop's unconscious body, but he's so fat that they can't even budge him, let alone lift him off the floor! Ferdinand immediately changes the location of the discussion to his meeting room without even looking at the High Bishop.
  • The novel chapter from Mark's point of view involves him expressing feelings towards Benno's ventures that are quite similar to Benno's feelings towards Myne's more impulsive actions. At some point in the chapter, Lutz and Myne leave because Myne got so enthusiastic during a discussion with Benno that she exerted herself, faceplanted on the table and tried continuing the discussion despite this. As soon as the children leave, Benno faceplants on the table himself and tells Mark of his idea of adopting Lutz out of the blue.

Part 2

    Volume 1
  • The volume begins with High Priest Ferdinand explaining the conditions for Myne joining the temple. It's amusing to see how easily he can manipulate the High Bishop by stroking his ego the whole time.
  • Myne is doing funny dances and gets overexcited because she will regularly go to the temple now where she can read books to her heart's content. The whole time she is creepily laughing, which freaks out Tuuli and Lutz.
  • After Myne's inauguration as a blue shrine maiden, introducing her attendants, pouring her mana into divine tools, as well as discussing her donation and the inner workings at the temple, Myne finally gets to go to the book room.
...It's finally tiiime, for the book rooom! This is my jooob! My jooob!
  • While on the way to the book room, Delia loudly complains about her new assignment and basically tells Myne that she is a spy sent by the High Bishop. Myne is visibly confused why Delia would openly tell Myne she is spying on her.
  • Before going to Benno with Lutz, Myne tells Delia that the High Priest should know she will soon come back with her donation. Hearing that Myne would be in trouble if Ferdinand isn't informed, Delia then promises to deliver Myne's message to the High Priest with a big grin on her face and runs away. Myne then tells Fran to deliver the message to the High Priest, as Delia just made it clear that she won't do it.
  • Upon entering the Gilberta Company store, Myne sees Mark, who looks distraught upon seeing Myne and immediately leads her to Benno. When Benno sees Myne, the first thing he does is yelling at her. She walked to the store dressed as a blue shrine maiden.
  • While Myne, Benno, and Mark are on their way to the temple, Myne gets very anxious. Mark finds Myne's desperate attempt to appear calm funny and starts laughing. Myne reacts by puffing her cheeks angrily and Benno starts poking one of her cheeks in response.
  • Before they enter the temple, Benno tells Myne that she should show him her gratitude in front of the High Priest once the donation is done. Myne tries hard to remember what people said in the medieval fictional stories she read in the past.
Benno: I'll carry the box with the donation for you, so once we've checked its contents in the High Priest's room, shower me with your gratitude.
Myne: Bwuh? What do you mean? Like, just say 'thanks' or 'I owe you one'?
Benno: Nobles wouldn't say it like that, but eh, that'll do.
Myne: What about... 'I thank you for your noble assistance from the bottom of my heart'?
Benno: Where did you learn that line?!
  • Before the meeting can start, Myne notices that she is too small to just sit down and climbing the chair is not an option if she wants to look like a noble.
...Who could have seen this coming?! There's no way to regally sit in a chair that's too tall!
  • After Benno successfully delivers the donation and gifts, Myne sighs in relief, which causes Benno to pass a piece of paper to her. Myne gets excited, as she nostalgically remembers how she used to pass notes with girls. Benno is the first man who passed a note to her.
With my heart beating a little fast despite it being from Benno, I opened the note. Inside contained the words: Don't let your guard down, idiot.
    ...Give back my excitement!
  • When asked what tea Myne would like to drink, she just randomly points to one and then is asked what kind of milk she likes to add to it. She internally starts complaining that even drinking tea is too complicated.
  • Benno is asked what he thinks of Myne, since all Ferdinand knows is that she is a dangerous person who will quickly let her mana rampage. Benno reacts with surprise, as he has heard for the first time that this happened (and if the High Priest wasn't present, he would have already started yelling at her). Myne is getting embarrassed because she feels like a kid at a parent conference day with Benno as her parent.
  • Benno tells the High Priest that "Myne is not entirely self-aware of her genius and has consistently shown herself to be the owner of a generous, naive personality," which was a Tactful Translation for "she's a thoughtless idiot with no sense of self-preservation". Ferdinand understands the "naive" part, but he is baffled that Benno calls her "generous".
  • The spreading rumor of Myne being Benno's and consequently Gilberta's Goddess of Water causes a misunderstanding with the High Priest. Benno isn't amused that Otto's prank made a noble suspect him for a Lolicon. Myne, whose common sense is out of sync with that of her current world of residence, doesn't help as she innocently asks what they mean, making the three adult men in the room very uncomfortable.
    • In the novel and manga, the meeting has an extra nice tidbit. Benno spends the meeting slipping Myne notes telling her how to behave properly, all using the harsh and sometimes insulting words he would have used if he had been yelling them at Myne in a moment of frustration ("Don't relax yet, fool!" and similar). Myne eventually notices Benno tearing a new note off a bigger piece of paper, and it hits her that those notes were all written in advance. By the polite-in-all-circumstances Mark.
  • To conclude the meeting, Ferdinand wants everyone to pray to the gods. Myne can barely contain her laughter when she imagines Benno and Mark doing the praying pose.
  • Lutz figures out that Myne collapsed because she didn't have lunch and used mana. His worry then turns to anger and he starts yelling at Myne, which earns him a reprimand from Benno who warns him not to shout at a sick person. Then Lutz tells Benno what he found out.
Benno: Myne or not, she's a sick person. Be more quiet.
Lutz: But listen, Myne's saying she collapsed 'cause she skipped lunch to read books. I just...
    Benno: YOU UNBELIEVABLE IDIOT!
  • Benno then tells Myne that she should talk to the High Priest about matters of mana, since despite his young age, he seems to be very competent. Myne is shocked to hear that Benno thinks Ferdinand is only around twenty and thought he would be around Benno's age, and Benno warns her not to tell Ferdinand that.
  • After regaining a bit of her strength, Myne tries to sit up, but since she still can't move very well she falls off the bench. Benno, Mark, and Lutz then start admonishing Myne, and Lutz warns Myne that should she neglect her health or get mad at her attendants for books again, he will ask High Priest Ferdinand to ban her from the book room. The manga depicts her saying "Noooo, anything but that!" with tears in her eyes.
  • After going home, Myne tries to bid Lutz farewell, but he's not done yet.
Myne: Bye, Lutz. See you tomorrow.
Lutz: (glare) I haven't told your family what happened yet.
    [...]
Tuuli: Why don't you take better care of yourself, Myne?!
    Myne: Don't cry, Tuuli!
Tuuli: I'm not crying! I'm mad!
    • Tuuli then tries to make Myne promise that she won't do this again, even if books are involved, but Myne keeps quiet. Tuuli starts getting mad again, but realizes that Myne is not the kind of person to make empty promises and lets it go.
  • Benno reveals his plans to invite selected merchants to the Italian restaurant and get feedback from them once the restaurant is finished. When Myne mentions that Benno is learning from Gustav's pound cake taste-testing, Benno firmly denies it and states that this was Myne's idea originally. He definitely did not imitate Gustav.
  • Hearing that Benno is going to open a restaurant that will serve noble's food, Tuuli excitedly asks what kind of food they will serve. However, Myne then tells Tuuli that the majority of the food will be based on the food she's been cooking at home.
Tuuli: ...Wait, is that restaurant going to serve your weird food, Myne?
Myne: Tuuli, don't call my food weird! You always love eating it!
  • When entering the secondhand clothes store, Benno is greeted by the proprietress, a close friend of his, who gently teases Benno by asking him since when he had so many children. She definitely is going to spread rumors to her friends about this and the two of them start bickering like old friends.
  • Myne wants to pick out clothes for her attendants. She asks Lutz for help to compare sizes, since he is of similar height to Gil. However, Lutz starts protesting when she tries to hold dresses for Delia against his body.
  • Benno starts wondering where exactly Myne learned to pick out clothes, but she only gives him a vague answer and tells him not to think too hard about it. He gets a headache.
  • Tuuli and Lutz are tasked to pick clothes for Myne. Benno gives them advice on how to pick clothes befitting one's status while taking a potshot at Myne for making her baptism outfit too fancy, which led to endless trouble. As they start picking clothes for Myne, both are convinced that their own choice of dress looks better on Myne and they start arguing.
  • Myne's new clothes look too fancy to walk around in her neighborhood, so she needs a changing room up north and asks Benno for a cheap one. When Benno asks why she doesn't just use a room in the temple, Myne responds that she doesn't have one for visitors. She then suggests making the book room into her room to which Benno reacts with exasperation.
Benno: Are you out of your mind?!
Myne: Sorry, I just said that because I really wanted it to happen.
  • To help Myne change, Benno calls for a female servant and tells Myne to change behind a screen in his office, since she won't be able to go upstairs to the attic due to her poor stamina. After she finishes changing, Benno praises her looks and Myne excitedly asks if she looks like a rich cute girl now. His rude response makes her want to get revenge on him.
Benno: ...Yeah, you look the part now.
Myne: Wha? Wha? I look the part? Are you saying I look like a rich girl? Am I cute?
Benno: Maybe if you kept your mouth shut.
    Myne: Bwuh?
(Mark and Lutz enter the room)
Mark: Excuse us, Master Benno. Oh, hello Myne. I see you have finished changing.
    Myne: Mr. Benno helped.
    Mark: .........Master Benno?
Benno: Myne, you moron! You abbreviated too much! Mark, I just called Matilda to help her.
  • When Myne arrives at the temple, she is greeted by her attendants. Delia smugly assumes Myne must have gotten in trouble (since Delia did not deliver Myne's message to the High Priest), unaware that Fran was able to handle everything without issue. Myne eventually gives up trying to tell Delia that everything was fine and just lets her believe what she wants.
  • Lutz asks who Delia was and Myne tells him that she is one of her three attendants. Fran immediately explains that Delia is an outlier. Gil then starts verbally abusing Myne. Myne and Fran have to explain to Lutz that Gil is another outlier. From Lutz's perspective, Fran is the outlier.
Lutz: So you're her only decent attendant, Fran?! The heck is going on here?!
  • Back in the High Priest's office, Myne asks Ferdinand whether it's normal to collapse after offering mana. Ferdinand doesn't have an answer, since Myne is the first Devouring child with so much mana, and he states his interest in studying her. Myne gets scared, as he looks at her like a Mad Scientist staring at a test subject.
  • When asked why Myne came in her commoner clothes, she starts putting on her blue robes in front of Ferdinand. Ferdinand is appalled how shamelessly Myne just acted and tells her to change in her own room only to remember that Myne actually doesn't have a room. When Myne suggests giving her a closet at least, Ferdinand raises his voice in shock and starts getting a headache.
  • While working on the temple ledgers, Myne notices various expenditures that use religious terms she doesn't understand. When she asks Ferdinand about the meaning of these terms, he stares at her with a blank face for a moment, then shakes his head and tells her to only work on the calculations. As readers later learn, a lot of these terms are euphemisms for things that Ferdinand really doesn't want to explain to a child, like "flowers for the gods", as in money the temple earned with prostitution.
  • Benno is genuinely happy that Myne has secured a kitchen for nobles and starts lifting her up in the air. Benno's loud and excited behavior is completely different compared to how he acted in the temple, which unsettles Fran.
  • Benno uses a loophole to come to the temple and inspect the kitchen. Myne doesn't really want to argue anymore and just accepts this, to the shock of Fran, since she otherwise will lose precious reading time. Fran then starts laughing and informs her that she can't go to the book room without him accompanying her, and he is going to help cleaning the kitchen. Myne reacts with a Big "NO!".
As I wept wistful tears for the books I could be reading, I sat at the second-floor table and wrote out supply orders while Lutz informed me what we needed.
  • Benno introduces Myne to Hugo and Ella, his new chefs for the planned Italian restaurant. They came to the temple to practice making food based on Myne's recipes. However, they are led to believe that Myne is an apprentice blue shrine maiden of noble origin, so she can't help them cook or even talk to them. During their whole meeting, all she is allowed to do is smile gracefully and let Fran instruct them how to prepare the dishes. Impressed by their skill, Myne loudly commends Benno for hiring good chefs and Hugo and Ella freeze and internally freak out. Benno assures them that they were complimented and he quietly gestures to Myne to keep her mouth shut.
...Sorry. I didn't expect a compliment to make them freeze up like that.
  • Hugo is done with the soup and taste-tests it. The taste leaves him speechless and he keeps drinking more of the soup to the point that Ella starts admonishing him. She wants to taste the soup too and unlike Hugo she reacts with much more visible glee and yells how tasty the soup is. Hugo begs her to calm down, since they are still in the presence of Myne, and the atmosphere freezes up again. All Myne can do is smile.
  • After gifting the leftovers of her and Benno's meal to her attendants and chefs, she can loudly hear Ella cheering through the door.
  • Myne is very happy to hear that everything is according to plan. The chefs are good, the food is satisfactory and Myne has already figured out a future business plan for the restaurant. But she can't help but feel like she's forgetting something.
Fran: Is something wrong, Sister Myne?
Myne: It feels like I'm forgetting something. Do you have any ideas as to what it might be, Fran?
    Fran: Forgetting something, you say?
Myne: Yes, something about the temple, something deeply related to both of us...
    (beat)
Delia: THIS IS ALL YOUR FAULT!
Myne: (thinking) ...Oh, now I remember. I forgot about Delia.
  • Delia loudly starts blaming Myne for being kicked out by the High Bishop, when she is suddenly hit on the head by Benno. She can't comprehend what just happened and looks around the room confused.
  • After Myne accepts letting Delia work for her, Delia, who was genuinely sad just a minute ago, makes a U-turn in attitude and starts admonishing Myne because Myne is not behaving like a proper blue shrine maiden. Benno can't help but laugh at Myne for being lectured by her attendant.
  • Delia gets jealous when she sees that Myne gifted Gil and Fran clothes. She denies this.
Delia: (crying) Whatever! I'm not jealous of them or anything!
Myne: Well, I bought some clothes for you too, but I guess you don't want them.
Delia: ...I never said I didn't want them. Not once.
  • Delia takes a bit too long to change clothes, so Myne decides to go to Delia's room and see if everything is alright. There she sees Delia dancing around in her new clothes while singing a song happily. As soon as she sees Myne, she freezes up for a moment, then complains that Myne should have knocked first.
  • Delia has begun working for Myne and she not happy with Myne missing a bath tub. Myne sees that Delia really wants to use the newly installed one, so she lets Delia use it first, which gets her another reprimand, as attendants can't possibly use it without their master.
  • Fran warns Myne not to trust Delia too easily, and Myne agrees. Delia just happily told her that she's talking to the High Bishop's attendants again. She really is a terrible spy.
  • Lutz is perplexed that the orphans can't go to the forest to gather their own food like he regularly does, especially because Gil and Fran can leave the temple too. Myne explains that it's because they are her attendants. Lutz then suggests just making all of the orphans her attendants.
  • Fran thinks that Lutz's idea is ludicrous, since Myne can't possibly afford clothes for so many orphans. Myne calculates the costs and assesses that buying 50-60 pairs of cheap clothes, knives and baskets would be less expensive than the clothes she bought for her attendants. Shocked, Fran looks at the high quality clothes he is wearing.
  • Secret Talk with the High Priest:
    • Myne and the High Priest have a talk in his Secret Room, where she sees the usually expressionless High Priest frowning and furrowing his brows in frustration for the first time. At Fran's suggestion, he brought Myne into his room because she doesn't understand the way nobles talk.
    • Recalling that Benno once called Myne a thoughtless idiot, the High Priest fully agrees with Benno. He was dying inside when she kept criticizing the temple for not caring for the pre-baptism children, because Myne said that loudly in front of one of the High Bishop's attendants.
    • The High Priest wants to know why Myne goes so far for the orphanage children. She wouldn't possibly work so hard if there wasn't any personal gain. Myne confirms this: She wants to read without a guilty conscience. The High Priest is left thunderstruck when he hears this, calling Myne a fool.
  • Each time it's suggested that Ferdinand is helping Myne just because he wants her to not be distracted from doing math for him.
  • The solution Ferdinand proposes to Lutz's problems includes having him brought to the orphanage as an abandonned child. Cue Myne getting so excited at the prospect of sending Lutz to the orphanage that she stands up from her seat.

    Volume 2
  • A blue priest ransacked the temple's library to harass Myne, so she declares she is going to have his head on a pike and parade it to restore morals and public orders. Gil comments, whoever did it wants Myne to kill them, knowing how much she loves books, while Fran gets to his knees and beg her to cancel her plan. Myne did so, not because she was feeling sorry for her attendant, but because her anger evaporates from having fun reorganizing the library.
  • Ferdinand is so surprised by Myne's explanation about stencil printing, he freezes up like a crashed computer and only snaps back to his senses after Myne call him out. Then he starts to feel sorry for Benno, who has to deal with Myne inventing things of this caliber for so long. Myne doesn't have any sympathy, as she is sure Benno is fine as long as he gets his profit.
  • There are a few when Ferdinand searches Myne's memories:
    • Her showing him her favorite library from Japan quickly turns into her picking a book, sitting down to read it, and briefly forgetting he's even there.
    • Myne first visits a library, then a bookstore, then her school library, prompting Ferdinand to ask her to show him anything but the books next! At one point exclaiming "Now, can we please go outside? I want to see the world." to Myne.
    • Myne takes advantage of the means used to probe her memory to do various things she's been missing, including taking a bath. Note that the way the probe works, Ferdinand and Myne are basically sharing Urano's field of view.
    • After telling Myne she can't bring anything back, he gets a taste of the softness of a towel she's using and starts regretting that the towel can't be brought back.

    Volume 3
  • Karstedt realizes that Ferdinand took a liking to Myne, thanks in part to her being his equal in every task he gave her and even accomplishing things he thought she would fail at. Ferdinand firmly denies it. Karstedt can't say anything further, because he knows Ferdinand too well.
  • Due to danger, Myne has to stay at the temple without going home for the whole winter. Then blizzards start and her family and Lutz cannot visit her anymore. Her attendants can't comfort her because of the difference in status. What to do? The way Myne tells it, she would very rarely (implying weeks) drop unannounced into High Priest Ferdinand's office and trade him doing extra paperwork for a hug to keep her balanced when she would feel unbearably homesick. The way her bodyguard Damuel tells it, every 2-4 days Myne would start following High Priest Ferdinand like a baby duckling until he would embarrassingly give up and very reluctantly take her to his private room to hug her until she calms down, like a noble would their actual child.
  • The first instance where Myne starts giving people the "Gutenberg" title is especially notable, when Johann made letters for typesetting as his masterpiece to be considered an adult master smith, who is able to open his own workshop as a foreman. The same scene is described both from Myne's and Johann's point of view. The way Myne describes it is "I got excited, invented the title of Gutenberg, passed out, spent the next few days with a fever and got scolded by Benno, Gil, Fran, Lutz and Ferdinand for it, which was to be expected." The way Johann describes the scene is... very different:

    * We witness for the first time how people react after Myne passes out. Those who don't know her very well at that point (Johann, his foreman and Damuel) panic and nearly have heart attacks. Those who do know her treat her like a malfunctioning piece of equipment that needs to be returned to service for repair, leisurely leaving her passed out on the ground for several minutes while they matter-of-factly discuss her condition and how long she is going to be in that state. Only after Johann shyly asks "Erm, aren't you going to do something?" does Benno say "Oh, Fran, put her on that bench in the corner and cover her with your coat so she is not in the way, while I finish the appraisal. She is going into the coach afterwards anyway, no need to try waking her up at all at this point. Although, I dare say that any masterpiece that makes the patron pass out from happiness should pass the appraisal with flying colors." almost as an afterthought.

    Volume 4
  • Myne, who from the point of view of those around her keeps coming up with items, products and food out of nowhere, needs to be clued in about something as basic as fixing agents by Effa. To top things off, Rosina and Wilma have known about them all along, as well. Rosina herself point out the irony of the situation.
  • Related to Johann agonizing over the Gutenberg title: Months later, Johann is very happy that Myne is finally having him make something else other than letters for typesetting after a long, long time. Then Myne tells him the things she has him make are all related to printing. Quote: "When he learned that they were all tools for printing, he truly understood that he would forever hold the title of "Gutenberg", and before my eyes he wept the tears of joy."
  • When Myne finds out Sylvester is the archduke of Ehrenfest, she briefly becomes very worried about the future of the duchy.
  • Before settling on Rozemyne, Myne is given a chance to pick a name for herself, preferably something that can be shortened to Myne. She quickly says three (self-admittedly terrible) Japanese names ending with Myne, which sound strange to the people in the room. After being pressed by High Priest, Myne admits they translate as "Brand New Myne", "Also Myne (or 'Myne 2' )" and "Red Myne". Why Red Myne? Because red versions of people are stronger and faster! Prompting Ferdinand to immediately chastise her, because, in his words "You will spend the rest of your life answering to that name. Fool! Take it seriously!". On top of this, the Red Ones Go Faster logic makes even less sense to those around her, as the setting's culture makes that association with blue rather than red. So they discuss the finer theological points of colors for several minutes.
  • Before changing identities for good, Myne gives one last blessing to the people she loves. The blessing is selective enough to actively avoid people it wasn't meant for. While it results in a few heartwarming moments via the characters who do receive it, some of her acquaintances get a "I actually don't care about you that much" message that is both blatant to the reader and subtle for the character. This includes the blessing reaching Damuel, but avoiding Freida. Who ended up in the same room due to Damuel's brother being her benefactor.
  • After seeing Rozemyne collapse from exhaustion and being taken to her bedroom, Sylvester realizes she reminds him of a pet shumil he kept as a child. The shumil in question was fairly weak, had fur a very dark blue and liked Karstedt more than him because it always ran to him whenever he visited. When he asks Karstedt if he sees the similarity also, Karstedt corrects that the shumil actually wasn't that weak, it's just that Sylvester was even more tiring to be around as a child than he currently is. The only reason the shumil liked it when Karstedt visited was purely for survival, because he would let the pet sleep in his lap and do nothing else with it, except for giving it the occasional pat.
  • Sylvester witnesses Ferdinand feeding a mana potion to Myne and openly shows an emotion by wincing in pain, due to how bad the taste is. His thoughts are basically "It's a war crime to feed that potion to an adult, let alone child! Dude, harsh!"
  • Sylvester's internal comment about The Chains of Commanding:
Don’t become an archduke, kids. You can’t even walk through your own city without needing a thousand layers of excuses and an elaborate plot.
  • Ferdinand and Benno first bond then share a short and hearty chuckle together about being Cloudcuckoolander's Minder for Myne and Sylvester, and not being able to refuse that duty, which started with Ferdinand suddenly giving the most sincere look of sympathy to Benno he had ever seen coming from a noble.

Part 3

    Volume 1
  • Ferdinand needs to give Rozemyne a magical medical examination that requires her to strip down to her panties, which she is very reluctant to do. Ferdinand gets so frustrated he reminds her of the fact that she was perfectly fine with him seeing her undressed "while in the bathtub", referring to the fact that she took a bath with knowledge he was watching the whole thing while he was searching her Urano memories. Karstedt is the point of view character for that scene, and his narration points out that for someone who didn't know of the memory search, Ferdinand's words would have been impossible to not misunderstand as Ferdinand and Rozemyne having bathed together at some point. He then half helps Ferdinand undress Rozemyne, half watches them continue to interact and decides that a quip from Sylvester about the two of them getting married isn't that far-fetched after all.
  • Karstedt and Ferdinand talk to Karstedt's wife Elvira about her having to raise Rozemyne and teach her customs and manners of nobles. Ferdinand lets it slip that he already started Rozemyne's education and Elvira just needs to add a few finishing touches and polishes. Elvira's eyes widen in horror and pity, due to knowing of Ferdinand's strictness and perfectionist attitude when training Knight's Order apprentices and his own attendants.
  • To motivate Rozemyne to learn properly about all the etiquette necessary to being a noble, Ferdinand promises her unrestricted access to all the books in the temple once she becomes High Bishop. As it turns out, being responsible for all books inside the temple is already a perk (nay, duty everybody tries to shirk!) of being the High Bishop, but Rozemyne is so focused on getting the books that she doesn't hear Ferdinand talk about it with Elvira while in the same room as her. Elvira praises Ferdinand for his masterful manipulation. Ferdinand responds that there is nothing to praise here, Rozemyne is just very easy to manipulate. Right in front of her. Which Rozemyne doesn't notice, thus proving his point.
  • All sorts of things happen during Rozemyne's baptism, but she considers finding out Sylvester already has three children to be the strangest of them.
  • Rihyarda is an Old Retainer who Sylvester makes Rozemyne's head attendant while she is in the Noble's Quarter where her temple attendants can't go because they are commoners. She knew Sylvester, Ferdinand and Karstedt (top nobles of Ehrenfest) since they were children and was Sylvester's nanny, which gives her certain privileges. As a result, every time Rihyarda interacts with Ferdinand, she calls him "Ferdinand, my boy" (literal translation of the word would be closer to "young inexperienced (rich) boy that is master's son" and is most often used by Wilfried's attendants to describe him in the book proper) and never just Ferdinand or High Priest Ferdinand, to his constant frustration and embarrassment. And responds to his claims that he is a grown man of twenty-one that she will stop calling him "my boy" once he gets married, because he is not an adult until he does. Rihyarda is possibly the only person in the world who can browbeat Ferdinand into doing anything he doesn't want to do.
  • How does Ferdinand teach Rozemyne's noble siblings, attendants and body guards to pay careful attention to her health? By letting her collapse in front of them, while he waits behind the corner with healing spells and horrible tasting mana potions until they summon him in complete panic. After the third time, even Ferdinand feels some pity and just slightly improves the taste of the potions. They still taste horrible, but not absolutely horrible. Rozemyne more than once thinks of him as "walking trauma dispenser" as a result and internally curses him for his cold rationality and absolute disregard for the feelings of others.
  • Rozemyne's "first" meeting with the Gilberta Company, some time after she's had to get used to noble life. Lutz finds that she has in fact been changed very little by her experiences, and is as exasperating as ever. Once they're able to talk more freely in her hidden room, he actually demands his tears from before back.
  • The Italian restaurant chapter: After the first meal in the Italian restaurant, Karstedt and Sylvester end up having a very heated debate over whose home Rozemyne will be staying in while being taught to gather donations. As Rozemyne gets baffled at the debate turning into Serious Business in front of her, Ferdinand explains that, in reality, they now both want to have access to her personal chef. He suggests that she Take a Third Option and go live in the temple during that time. Karstedt and Sylvester notice the discussion and their shared reaction to it boils down to "Nice try Ferdinand, but we know you actually want access to that chef also and are just being much more subtle about it than we are". Ferdinand buys the recipes and borrows one of the two cooks who knows them for a month, leaving Karstedt and Sylvester to argue about who gets the second cook.
  • Rozemyne wants Ferdinand to play harspiel for her in a public concert. Once bribery, pleading and Puppy-Dog Eyes don't work on Ferdinand, Rozemyne turns her "pleading puppy eyes" towards Rihyarda. Rihyarda shames Ferdinand into doing it with a single scolding to Rozemyne's shocked amusement, making him vow revenge to Rozemyne with a look and a polite poisonous smile. Rozemyne's amusement immediately turns into fear. The revenge being that he gives her a stack of new books for to read. Then hands responsibility of the books to Rihyarda and instructs her to keep them under lock and key in the castle, then physically has Rozemyne moved to the Temple for training and insure she is unable to read the new book for a month as form of torture. Then she gets back at him by having Wilma draw Ferdinand's face and printing it in the music program.
  • Ferdinand gifts Rozemyne a very expensive high quality feystone so she can use it to make a highbeast (the magical mounts first seen being used by the Knight's Order). While she is practicing changing the shape and size of the stone by spending mana and using her imagination, Rozemyne innocently asks Ferdinand why the practice building is so enormous. The moment Ferdinand says "In case of magical explosions", Rozemyne imagines the stone exploding. And it does. Ferdinand gets a headache. Then Rozemyne recites a made-up magic spell, uses some mana and imagines the exploded shards to be clay and gathers all of them, before rolling them together until the feystone is whole again. Ferdinand's headache gets worse and he ends the first practice session then and there.
  • While discussing the subject with Rozemyne as a knight, Lamprecht has trouble believing that Ferdinand's harspiel concert will require a security detail and a medical room nearby. Since Elvira is present at the same meal, Rozemyne proves the necessity by putting an illustration of Ferdinand on display in such a way that Elvira will need to move to the other side of the table to see it properly, lets Lamprecht witness her reaction and basically tells him "that concert is going to have several dozen women in the same state of mind".
  • After a lot of practice, Rozemyne finally summons her highbeast. She calls it Lessy. It has seatbelts. It is also very cute, very well built and extremely practical. Anyone who disagrees (i.e. everyone who sees it) is simply mistaken and wrong! The animal form it takes? Red Pandabus. It was supposed to look like a catbus from My Neighbor Totoro, but, after seeing it, Ferdinand forbade her from making anything which might possibly be mistaken for a lion, as the lion is the sigil of archduke's family and it would bring shame to them. She hence had to make it into something else.
  • Because it is in the form of a bus, it is the only highbeast which can easily carry more than three people at once, as Rozemyne simply imagines it bigger and with more seats. As a result, at one point Rozemyne ends up carting 10 people and their luggage. The only person explicitly forbidden from flying in the Pandabus ever again after the first time? Justus. Because it is his job (and obsession) to gather all sort of information, he is like a mix of Google, a library and a mobile phone to Rozemyne and she can't concentrate properly on her driving when he is there thanks to her thirst for knowledge. And it is often Ferdinand's job to get that jumble of information from Justus, sort it, filter it and transform it into a form useful for duchy. Ferdinand vows he will never leave him to talk alone for more than fifteen minutes with Rozemyne, less he makes her weirder than she already is. And she makes him weirder than he already is.
  • Zack joins the Gutenbergs because he thinks it's a title for skilled craftsmen and, as Johann's Unknown Rival, can't stand the idea of Johann having the title while he doesn't. When Zack realizes his mistake, Lutz's reaction indicates that he tried to tell him the title wasn't anything special, changed his approach to Sure, Let's Go with That when Rozemyne showed interest in Zack's skills and has been holding back his laughter ever since.
  • Rozemyne successfully manages to sell every illustration of Ferdinand to the nobles. A few days later, she gets called into Ferdinand's office. It turns out Sylvester got his hands on the illustrations which, thanks to Rozemyne kindly adding publishing information to the prints, have a clear source, and showed them to Ferdinand note . Ferdinand, with a Psychotic Smirk and a chilling voice demands to "hear [her] excuse", and after a fierce scolding makes her promise to never sell any printed illustrations again.
  • In the next chapter, Lutz gives Benno a report that their concert merchandise completely sold out. Happy how it turned out, Benno requests to hear when the next concert is planned, only to get disappointed when he hears that Ferdinand has forbidden further illustrations of him to be sold. Lutz conveniently leaves out that Rozemyne made it extremely easy for Ferdinand to find out where the illustrations came from, because he knows Rozemyne would get another scolding from Benno.

    Volume 2
  • The prologue in the light novel is written from Tuuli's perspective, in which she tells Effa how Rozemyne performed as the High Bishop during the coming of age ceremony. However, this was originally told from Rozemyne's perspective in the web novel. Rozemyne gets annoyed how the participants don't take their prayers seriously, so she intentionally screws up the blessing and tells them that it's their fault, making them repeat their prayers. This gets her annoyed glares from Ferdinand, which she ignores.
  • In the previous volume, Rozemyne solved a conflict between Sylvester, Karstedt and Ferdinand over access to her personal chef it by selling recipes to all three for exorbitant prices and "loaning" two other chefs that know the recipes for a month for a fee. One went to Sylvester's home to teach his cooks, while Karstedt planned to send his own cook to train with Sylvester's. The second chef went to the temple to cook for Ferdinand. In an early chapter of this volume, Rozemyne reveals that the chef she's loaning to Ferdinand trained in the temple in the first place, with at least three shrine maidens so the latter keep cooking for the orphanage once the chefs left for the Italian restaurant. This implies that the only thing Ferdinand needed to do to gain access to the recipes without getting ripped off was to simply ask for one of those three grey shrine maidens to become his personal chef and attendant. This comes after Sylvester's side chapter from Part 2 Volume 4 mentions that all of Ferdinand current attendants are men and Ferdinand considers adding just one woman would cause chaos, so he simply doesn't bother. (This incidentally causes Sylvester to think Ferdinand is boring person with a dead sense for fun because of refusing to accept his suggestion to take a female attendant.) So why didn't Ferdinand consider that solution? Because, according to Rozemyne, "Blue priests don't care about how orphanage functions and what orphans eat." so he genuinely didn't know about their existence. Ferdinand immediately facepalms and gets a headache.
  • Rozemyne sets up the perfect patron-artist pair: she encourages Elvira to provide for Wilma in exchange for illustrations of Ferdinand. Hey, Ferdinand technically only forbade Rozemyne from selling prints after all.
  • When Sylvester sees Rozemyne's highbeast Lessy for the first time, he laughs so hard his stomach hurts. After promising Rozemyne to let her use it in the castle's halls only if it was amusing enough. Reminder that in the previous volume, Ferdinand couldn't stop making dumbfounded faces after witnessing what Rozemyne thinks is "cute", and forbade her from using anything that resembles her adopted family's sigil.
  • During a meeting, Sylvester and Rozemyne end up calling each other weirdos, both getting offended the other did the same thing, and engaging in a staring contest. Karstedt settles the dispute by telling them they're both weirdos.
    • Rozemyne angrily pouts at him, because he could have at least told her that she is a cute weirdo! What kind of a father would call his daughter just a weirdo?!
  • The same incident reveals both just how far behind Wilfried is in his education and just how negatively Ferdinand was affected by being partially raised by a woman who despised him. After setting up a program to get Wilfried back on track, Rozemyne has thoughts that can be summed up as "Can someone please fix Ferdinand for me? He's super-broken and I can't do it because I'm abnormal as well."
  • Rozemyne makes a spot-on impression of Ferdinand. Fran approves and has trouble containing his laughter.
  • Rozemyne ends up needing to use a lot of mana late in the night to keep a large feybeast from causing too much damage until Ferdinand arrives to take it down. She soon reaches a point where she feels like she needs someone to tell her interesting things keep her from falling asleep. Justus ends up being the one to do it, with the sort of trivia that is very interesting to Rozemyne, but immensely boring to most people. It's to the point that upon showing up to give the group a hand, Ferdinand only needs to look at the faces of everyone else present to know it's best to not inquire about the nature of the trivia for the sake of his own well-being.

    Volume 3
  • Rozemyne needs to hire more attendants to help with all the work she has to do as High Bishop. Normally, the number of attendants she has right now would be enough, but two of them constantly go to the orphanage to help with the cooking. One of them, Nicola, even prefers to cook to doing regular attendant work. So Rozemyne hires one cook and one more attendant as to allow Nicola to do the work she likes. When Fran reports Rozemyne's decision to Ferdinand and defends it to him, Ferdinand immediately tells Fran "You spend too much time with Rozemyne. She has corrupted you and poisoned your mind!" because it is unthinkable for a noble to delegate the tasks to attendants while considering their happiness. As Ferdinand notes that Fran has taken after his mistress too much, Fran retorts amusingly that Rozemyne once said the same thing about Fran, as he is a serious and stubborn Workaholic, like Ferdinand. Ferdinand (who used to be The Stoic before meeting Rozemyne) visibly grimaces after hearing this, to which Fran amusingly thinks: "Your mind has also been poisoned by her."
  • An older Gutenberg explaining Rozemyne to a newer one:
Johann: Zack, it's not just sometimes that Lady Rozemyne says ridiculous things — it's all the time. [murmurs] Better this than launching into a prayer out of nowhere.
  • The way for a noblewoman to finance her project is to hold a tea party and ask other noblewomen to donate, so that's what Rozemyne did back in Volume 1 and what the concert it ended with was for. After the concert, Rozemyne organizes follow up tea party for Elvira's faction to present the spending report. Since her project is a printing shop, the spending report is printed. But technology is still imperfect, so there are random dots, lines and smudges on the front and back of the report. It is quite a boring meeting, until Rozemyne makes them pledge that Ferdinand won't find out something she's about to show them under the threat of death. Four precise cuts on the report and some origami moves later, those random dots, smudges and lines resolve into Ferdinand's face. The noblewomen present can't wait to donate again!
  • The following exchange:
Rozemyne: Forget all about me being a normal girl. I'm going to become the weirdest, strangest girl who ever lived!
Ferdinand: Hold it. You are already bizarre beyond words.
  • During one of his conversations with Rozemyne, Ferdinand calls himself "just a humble priest, who can't possibly go against High Bishop or do anything without her permission or direct order." Rozemyne tells him to look up humble in the dictionary, because it is quite unlike him to misuse a word so badly. Then they both share an evil laugh. Blue priests enter the room right as the latter is happening, and show obvious fear on their faces.
  • Just before Rozemyne uses Lessy to ferry a couple of attendants and some members of the Gilberta Company from the temple to the castle to avoid snow, Ferdinand gives Rozemyne's future passengers a speech that boils down to "you all chose to associate with her, dealing with all her weird ideas is part of it". Everyone among the speech's targets responds with a resigned nod.
  • Rozemyne's group is fighting talfroschs, toad-like feybeasts that remind her of Count Bindewald. She also finds another thing in common between Count Bindewald and talfroschs: getting exterminated by Ferdinand. Damuel clearly agrees and Brigitte, who never met Count Bindewald, decides that the fact he looks like a talfrosch is all she needs to know to not want to ever meet him.
  • Ferdinand discusses Rozemyne with Karstedt and Eckhart and gets a pre-emptive headache once he realizes that Rozemyne's schedule has cleared for the next couple of months. Which means that she has free time to invent stuff or start a new endeavor. And that means she WILL do something mindbogglingly dangerous and/or insane and he can't even try to predict what it is going to be!
  • It turns out that Eckhart and Justus are such Ferdinand fanboys that they are among the people who own the full set of three illustrations from the concert and deeply regret there won't be more. It has even become a mother-son bonding subject for Elvira and Eckhart.
  • In the bonus comic, Rozemyne tries describing a kotatsu to Ferdinand. From Rozemyne's explanations, Ferdinand pictures a wolf-like beast with the blanket wrapped around its body and the board tied on its back. For obvious reasons, he wonders why people would ever do this. When she tells him about skiing, he imagines something that doesn't look like much fun, as well. Rozemyne considering the kotatsu essential for winter reading and admitting that skiing is not as fun as reading (because all other activities are inferior to reading in her eyes) doesn't do much to alleviate the misunderstanding.

    Volume 4
  • Now that the more advanced printing press is ready, Rozemyne wants to make an illustrated collection of popular knight tales. She plans to get a few extra female buyers by asking Wilma to make the knight in the illustrations a Comic-Book Fantasy Casting version of Ferdinand. Rozemyne even has an "iron shield" against any objection from Ferdinand that she plans to add at the beginning of the book:
  • As they are on the way to let Rozemyne have a hands-on experience with the new printing press, Gil tells Damuel he'd need the power of Mestionora, the Goddess of Wisdom to contain Rozemyne's excitement. Damuel's response is to seriously consider praying to Mestionora when the time comes. Rozemyne's internal response is basically "Go ahead, and ask her for tips for better printing while you're at it".
  • Angelica's manablade:
    • Rozemyne donates mana for her knight Angelica's manablade. Normally, the blade is either shaped for speed and strength or for magic element affinity (wind, fire, life etc). Only Rozemyne realizes that Angelica doesn't lack any of that, but wisdom and common sense instead. Leading to the first ever talking manablade. It talks (and scolds!) in Ferdinand's voice. Ferdinand gets a headache once he sees what Rozemyne has done and forbids her from ever touching a manablade again, let alone donating any mana for one. Angelica learns in the next chapter that her manablade sadly cannot do the studying for her.
    • After Ferdinand arrives, he gives a lengthy lecture about feystone dyeing that goes on for so long that Rozemyne thinks he might run out of air. When he is done, he asks whether they all got it. Rozemyne and Angelica give an affirmative response, but Rozemyne immediately notices that this is Angelica's "I didn't get it at all" face. Ferdinand notices it too, but the moment he is about to lecture them again, the manablade starts to talk in his voice.
    • When Ferdinand hears the manablade talking, he immediately suspects it's Rozemyne's fault that something so strange has happened, which she immediately denies. He apologizes, but then the manablade confirms his suspicions. However, Ferdinand was partially responsible for the blade taking on Ferdinand's voice and personality, when he poured his own mana in to examine the blade.
Ferdinand: I knew you were responsible. What was that about a false charge?
    • Angelica is more than happy to have received a blade that does the thinking for her and gives her advice when needed. Rozemyne isn't so sure.
Rozemyne: ...Angelica, are you sure about this? I am stricken with the feeling that this sword might never shut up.
      Ferdinand: Oh, is that so?
Rozemyne: [thinking] Eep, I sense that I've made a mistake of some kind.
  • Rozemyne plans to make a book that contains sheet music and she wants to use the songs she, Rosina and Ferdinand composed together for the harspiel concert. When she asks Ferdinand for permission to name him the composer (because she doesn't want the attention), he refuses and tells her to give accurate credits. Rozemyne obeys and gives accurate credits, but she orders Rosina to write Ferdinand's name in very big letters as the arranger, while her own name is to be written in smaller letters.
  • Rozemyne's response to the idea of Ferdinand rejoining society, which causes Karstedt to burst out laughing:
Rozemyne: Well, I think it's a good idea if you want the temple to collapse overnight.
  • Ferdinand is considering the pros and cons of rejoining noble society. Having figured out it will be a Morton's Fork when it comes to his own life, he's considering rejoining because there are several people he cares about who would benefit from it. What does it take to make him seriously reconsider? Rozemyne reminding him that his position as her de facto main guardian (and hence Cloudcuckoolander's Minder) would be officialized if he were to return to noble society.
  • Before the Starbind Ceremony, everybody is watching Rozemyne walk along the long carpet to her position in the proceedings and it takes a long time for her to reach her designated place. Rozemyne is well aware of that.
Have I gotten any faster? No.
  • Minutes before the newlywed part of the Starbind Ceremony, Rozemyne asks Ferdinand whether he'll be looking for a partner this year, having finally returned to noble society from his long temple stay. He replies that there is no point, since there is no unmarried woman in the duchy able to match his mana capacity. Then Karstedt finally drops the bombshell he wanted to drop since Part 2, Volume 3: Why not Rozemyne, once she comes of age? Both Ferdinand and Rozemyne react with utter horror and openly show emotions in public, causing Sylvester to smugly tease them. Their reaction to that teasing doesn't help their case at all.

** As is later noted by Word of God, Rozemyne incorrectly thought Ferdinand was implying Florencia is the woman who could match his mana, when the woman Ferdinand was thinking of was actually Veronica. Just the mere thought that the only woman in Ehrenfest who could be his partner is his Wicked Stepmother is both appalling and hilarious.
  • Rozemyne has a business meeting with Damian, Frieda's older brother, whom she briefly met as Myne during Frieda's baptism. Benno, with a very strict glint in his eye, tells Rozemyne the reason she very explicitly doesn't recognize him: "Yes, he went through a growth spurt that changed his appearance entirely in the span of a single year." which Ferdinand silently approves of. Later, on the day of departure to Ilgner, Damian quietly scolds Frieda for acting inappropriately close to the member of nobility. Frieda promises to her older brother she will be more careful in the future.
  • Elvira and Rozemyne scheme together so they can sell prints of Ferdinand. Rozemyne is forbidden, but he said nothing of Elvira opening her own printing shop in another province. Well, Sylvester did say he wanted to quickly spread the printing industry all over the duchy.
  • On her trip to Ilgner, Rozemyne beats her previous record of transporting 10 people and their luggage in her highbeast Lessy. This time it is fifteen people, their luggage, silverware for all of them and paper making equipment!
  • One of the strange magical trees growing in Illgner are effons. They move, sing and headbang! Their song is described as something between hard rock and death metal! Rozemyne is left stunned with a weird feeling of nostalgia when she hears their forest "concert" for the first time.
  • Justus casually reveals that he once singlehandedly almost caused a volcano to erupt. It's not a happy memory for Eckhart and Ferdinand, as they were present onsite when it happened. Ferdinand makes sure a bunch of urgent paperwork gets dumped on Justus so he doesn't take part in a trip to that very same volcano to gather Rozemyne's ingredient.
  • Rozemyne discovers that she landed a body able to taste eyedrops upon using eyedrops made by Ferdinand, whose potions meant for oral consumption are already quite terrible tasting. Ferdinand apparently doesn't know that tasting eyedrops is a thing, and is hence baffled when Rozemyne asks him to improve the taste of the eyedrops in the future.
  • One of the ingredients for the jureve potion is a riesefalke egg, collected from the bottom of hot springs. Drawing on her experience from boiling eggs in Japan's hot springs, Rozemyne asks Ferdinand if the eggs happen to taste delicious. He looks at her as if she is insane. They are expensive potion ingredients you charge with your mana, not food!
Rozemyne: [thinking] Aw, too bad. I wanted to try eating some...
  • She also asks him if she could touch the surface of or sit in one of the hot springs, filled with sulfuric smelling water. Ferdinand doesn't see the point of such action and Rozemyne is too scared of him to tell him her first thought: because it feels good! Which has the effect of Ferdinand continuing to think of her as being bizzare beyond words!
  • Rozemyne watching Sylvester while on official business:
For a second, [Sylvester] actually looked like a wise archduke [...]
  • Ferdinand completely transforms in Georgine's presence, showing a gentler side Rozemyne never saw before, easily smiling and laughing and looking so much like the Prince Charming that a star-struck Wilma drew that Rozemyne's mind is left spinning and it freaks her out. It's all an act, kind eyes and all.
  • Rozemyne receives a new type of paper made with Illgner wood, which is stiffer, thicker and smoother than the usual sort she makes, so much closer to cardboard that she's considering using it for playing cards. Because she doesn't know whether it can be printed on with her usual ink, Rozemyne starts folding a sheet to make it easier to rip it into testing samples and realizes she accidentally made a harisen. Ferdinand asks how it is used. Rozemyne playfully swings at him to demonstrate, only for Ferdinand to block the attack, take it from her and hit her on the head with a loud WHACK! and reply "Ah, I see. So that is what this is used for." . He promises to give it back to her once she is finished with her chores for the day.
  • Later when Sylvester's family sees off Georgine, Rozemyne and Wilfried are taught how to say their farewells, which again are typically said in a euphemistic way. Rozemyne, via the narration, provides the translation, which is roughly "I hope to see you again." when taken literally, but its real meaning is closer to "I have no plans to invite you back anytime soon.". Wilfried says the line, but does not understand the meaning (nor does he understand the strained relationship between his aunt and his parents), which leads to him run up to Georgine and accidentally reinvite her for a visit as she's leaving. Ferdinand is so furious that he gives Rozemyne the harisen back, ordering her to punish Wilfried, as she is one of the few people who can do this without a huge scandal or political consequences. So she whacks her older brother Wilfried on the head multiple times. He is more shocked than hurt, which is the point.

** That last scene shows up again in a chapter from Florencia's point of view. Her internal response to it is to start seriously considering Rozemyne as a future wife for Wilfried.
  • After Georgine leaves, Rozemyne is determined to visit Hasse again and asks Ferdinand for permission to send gray priests to Hasse during winter. Why? To teach the new leaders about noble euphemisms, after she received a letter that said "We shall prepare offerings of sweet fruits and beautiful flowers to you, O servant of the gods, and ask only that you hear our needs in return.", which is a thinly veiled way to say "We will give you women, beer and money if you do what we ask for.". Even Ferdinand is shocked to hear about their ignorance and quickly approves Rozemyne's plan.

    Volume 5
  • Tying in with the previous volume, it's revealed that Ferdinand never gave the harisen back and became rather fond of it, using it to replace and complement some of his lectures. Mostly to get her attention when she starts doing or saying something foolish. Rozemyne is not amused.
  • Tying in with the previous volume, both Ferdinand and Rozemyne are relieved when they get to Hasse's townhouse and the reception quarters are adorned with flowers and freshly squeezed fruit juice. When Ferdinand reveals to the mayor and chiefs of nearby towns what the noble euphemism they used actually means, their faces go pale and they all start shaking. Which is just the right mindset for Rozemyne to play the role of a forgiving saint and reveal her plan for gray priests to educate them about the noble ways during winter.
  • This exchange between Rozemyne and Ferdinand.
Rozemyne: Well, Ferdinand, I'm off. May we meet again in Dorvan.
Ferdinand: Do try not to cause any problems.
    Rozemyne: We'll see.
Ferdinand: [sighing, rubbing his temples] That is not an answer.
  • Benno agrees with Rozemyne's plan to hire more Gutenbergs. His reasoning is purely selfish, though: he has finally accepted that his life is suffering and wants to spread the load of that suffering to as many people as possible. He specifically describes her way of thinking and working as slowly spreading corrupting insanity, and his only hope of containing it is to have so many Gutenbergs he shuffles around so that every specific Gutenberg spends only a short time in Rozemyne's company.
  • Upon getting news that Georgine's supporters and Veronica's former ones will soon make a move, Rozemyne asks what staying on guard will concretely entail. The advice she gets is full of reminders that her entourage doesn't trust her to act on her own:
Karstedt: Speak to Ferdinand before doing anything.
Ferdinand: Just... please think before you act.
Eckhart: Do not speak to or meet with strangers.
Justus: Don't accept bribes, even if they're books.
  • The ruelle gathering is a success and Rozemyne gets the final ingredient for her jureve potion. However, Rozemyne tells everyone to wait with the retreat because she wants Damuel to get his own high-quality feystone for his proposal. Within earshot of Brigitte. Ferdinand and Karstedt just laugh because Rozemyne just embarrassed both Damuel and Brigitte.
  • The morning after the successful ruelle gathering mission, Rozemyne is cheerful and giddy. Only for the room to be abruptly cleared of all attendants and anti-listening magic tool to be activated. Then Karstedt very strictly asks her "What did you do to Damuel?!". Rozemyne is so shocked she immediately apologizes and admits that she gave Damuel sweets while he was on guard duty. Karstedt, Ferdinand and Eckhart have no idea what she is talking about. They wanted to ask her about Damuel's mana growth.

** What makes this scene even funnier is the way Rozemyne phrases it. In Japanese she uses the word "餌付け" when she tells her guardians that she fed Damuel sweets. "餌付け" refers to someone domesticating a wild animal with food. Rozemyne basically admits she is manipulating people with food, as she has done before in the past.
  • When discussing Rozemyne's conditions for teaching her mana compression method, Rozemyne mentions that she is going to charge a fee based on one's status and that every noble will have to sign a country-wide magic contract (which makes even Ferdinand, who considers a few large golds pocket change, flinch because of the costs). Karstedt nervously starts calculating how much money he will have to burn because all his family members will want to learn the method, which makes Rozemyne internally think that she should probably give a family discount.
  • Brigitte broaches the subject of a gray priest who fell in love with an Illgner citizen by double checking one of Rozemyne's early statements about gray priests not being allowed to get married. Rozemyne's knee-jerk assumption is that Brigitte fell in love with a gray priest and she voices it out loud. While Damuel is in the same room as the two of them.
  • Rozemyne is surprised how considerate and gentle Ferdinand acts and thinks how unlike him that behavior is, but doesn't dare say anything to him. In return, Ferdinand flicks her painfully on the forehead, almost as if he had read her mind.
  • Rozemyne proudly informs Lutz that she has finally finished gathering all potion ingredients and that she will finally become normal. Damuel mutters how her guards did the bulk of the gathering, causing Lutz and Gil to laugh.
  • Lutz then corrects her: she'll become healthy but she'll never be normal. It just means that she'll become a healthy trouble-making weirdo that will be harder to stop. Rozemyne angrily pouts at him while Damuel and Gil voice similar opinions.
  • When Rozemyne returns home, she finally meets Charlotte, Sylvester's biological daughter. Which makes Rozemyne her older sister! The meeting is brief, because Rozemyne has to hurry to a meeting with Sylvester and give him and his scholars a report about the Harvest Festival. Cue the Boke and Tsukkomi Routine.
    Sylvester: Now then. Your report?
    Rozemyne: Charlotte was positively adorable.
Sylvester: (nods) Indeed, she certainly is.
Rozemyne: I have decided to perform her baptism for her.
Ferdinand: This is not what you are here for, fool! Give your report on the Harvest Festival!
  • When Ferdinand tells Rozemyne that he wants her to wait with using the jureve (which would incapacitate her for what could be possibly months), so that she can help with the Dedication Ritual and Spring Prayer, Rozemyne refuses. Then he mentions that Rozemyne will probably want to appear like a Cool Big Sis to Charlotte by fulfilling her duties as High Bishop until spring. Rozemyne immediately agrees to it and then is dismissed. She can't even process what just happened and quickly forgets how Ferdinand just manipulated her, because she can now go to see Charlotte and have a tea party with her.
At last, my tea party with Charlotte. Tralala, tralalalala.
  • While everyone is pondering what the intentions of the nobles that tricked Wilfried are, Rozemyne murmurs that it was just harassment from someone outside. Sylvester is visibly astonished and praises Rozemyne for being "surprisingly smart".
Rozemyne: What do you mean "surprisingly smart"?!
  • Sylvester has to think up a punishment for Wilfried after the latter has committed a serious crime. Charlotte looks at Rozemyne with hopeful eyes, expecting her to help their brother.
Okay, I need to make sure I look good in front of Charlotte. I want to seem cool, but I don't actually have any good ideas! Aaah! Aaaaah!
(After successfully giving Wilfried a light punishment)
Woohoo! I did it! I'm a respectable older sister now!
  • Ferdinand and Rozemyne are preparing a hidden room where Rozemyne will lay in the jureve. He uses a teleportation magic circle and sticks his hand inside to retrieve various items. Rozemyne compares him to "the English nanny from those popular children's books". Specifically this scene.
  • Ferdinand prepares several other utensils to set up Rozemyne's magic workshop. Excited, Rozemyne dreams of setting up her own private book room. Ferdinand tells her to wake up from her daydream and produce the ingredients for the jureve.
  • The cauldron they are using to make the jureve is large enough that Rozemyne could fit in.
Ferdinand: (seriously mustering Rozemyne) What, would you like me to boil you?
Rozemyne: No! I wouldn't be edible, no matter how much you cooked me!
Ferdinand: I have no intention of eating you and suffering the enormous stomachache you would no doubt give me. Rather, I was thinking about the high-quality mana I could harvest from you.
    Rozemyne: That's even scarier!
  • Rozemyne has to keep stirring the cauldron until all the feystones she has gathered have melted. She gets bored and tired, and starts complaining to Ferdinand, who is having none of it.
Rozemyne: Aah! Ferdinand! The feystone melted!
Ferdinand: Put the next one in and continue to stir.
    [...]
    Rozemyne: Ferdinand, my arms hurt...
    Ferdinand: Endure it.
    [...]
Rozemyne: ...I would like to rest for a little while.
Ferdinand: No. It is almost done.
  • Rozemyne is going to teach her closest circle her mana compression method and has them sign magic contracts. She charges a hefty sum for every noble sans Damuel, but after telling Sylvester that half of her fee goes directly to Ehrenfest, he starts crying Tears of Joy.
  • Rozemyne warns every participant that compressing one's mana should be done slowly and partially, as it will make one sick otherwise. After teaching Ferdinand the second part of her method, he successfully compresses his mana but drinks a mana restoration potion instead of waiting for his body to naturally recover mana and continues compressing it, causing Rozemyne to freak out! Ferdinand very obviously looks slightly sick and noticeably pale after finishing, which is very significant considering his stoic personality. He then states that the mana compression should be taken slowly, as it will otherwise lead to a sickening experience. In ironic reversal of their usual roles, Rozemyne gets so angry at Ferdinand for not listening to her, she wants to get her harisen back and deliver a tsukkomi to him.
Rozemyne: Didn't I say pretty much all of that before we started?!
  • Rozemyne sees her cute little brother, Kamil, for the first time in several months and can't help but gush over how cute he is.
W-wow! Look, everyone! My little brother is adorable! In fact, he's so cute that I'm worried someone might kidnap him. Because, I mean, I want to kidnap him! I'm the kidnapper! It's me! Look at those precious little cheeks! Praise be to the gods!
  • After several days and nights worth of overwork, she feels so excited that she needs a moment to rest and closes her eyes. This irritates Ferdinand, who is feeling exhausted too, due to a mana hangover. When she opens her eyes again, a scary-looking Ferdinand picks her up and tosses her to Fran, who forces Rozemyne to drink a potion and rest.
  • When Charlotte is about to fall to the ground, Angelica jumps off of Rozemyne's highbeast to catch Charlotte midair.
    Angelica: Target secured!
    Rozemyne: Angelica! That was incredible!
Stenluke: What is the plan, master? As we are now, we will fall to the ground with the young woman.
    Angelica: I don't know!
Rozemyne: You didn't plan ahead, Angelica?!
Angelica: Not at all! (Beat) Um... I... Someone, help!
  • After waking up from her jureve treatment, Ferdinand informs Rozemyne that not all of her hardened mana has been dissolved. Rozemyne then screams how she shouldn't have slacked off in her dreams, which Ferdinand misunderstands.
Rozemyne: Was slacking off that bad of an idea?!
Ferdinand: (frowns) I did not slack off whatsoever.
Rozemyne: I'm not talking about you, Ferdinand. I mean what I did in my dream. Ngh... my head feels all fuzzy.
Ferdinand: You give me headaches whether you are asleep or awake.
  • In an act of petty revenge for being pestered for information about Rozemyne, Ferdinand gleefully sends more than ten copies of the same ordonnanz message as a reply to Bonifatius after Rozemyne awakes. Yes, ordonnanz, as in the magical white bird that repeats the message three times. Unfortunately for him, Bonifatius is annoying him even after Rozemyne is awake.
    Bonifatius: HURRAAAAAAH! ROZEMYNE! SHE'S AWAKE?!
    • That shouted reply is also repeated three times.
  • Bonifatius' side chapter:
    • The entire chapter is full of a grandfather showing how much he loves his granddaughter. He gets very jealous of Angelica for having a manablade with Rozemyne's mana, and gets angry when he can't spend time with his precious Rozemyne.
    • When Bonifatius rushes out to rescue Rozemyne, Sylvester tells Ferdinand to follow Bonifatius and prevent him from doing something reckless. Ferdinand sighs and complains about Sylvester asking him to do the impossible.
    • He gets along well with Angelica and she immediately takes a liking to him and respectfully calls him "teacher" after he agrees to teach her. Cue his grandson, Cornelius, who can't believe that Angelica is voluntarily training under Bonifatius.
Cornelius: You're training under him of all people? I can't believe this. Are you insane?
Bonifatius: Silence, weakling! You would dare say that when you always run from my training like a coward?!
Cornelius: On the contrary, I haven't run from your training even once, Grandfather. In fact, have you ever allowed me to run away?
    • Bonifatius is dragging captured Joisontak behind himself, making his head touch the floor. Then they reach the staircase... Bonifatius completely ignores his captive's yelps as his head hits every stair on the way.
    • Viscount Joisontak's kidnapping plan has so many flaws that even a Dumb Muscle like Bonifatius calls him stupid. During Joisontak's testimony and explanation of every step of that dumb plan, the only thing Ferdinand does is hold his fingers on his temples and stare into middle distance, as if the stupidity of it is causing him physical pain.
    • While surveying Viscount Gerlach's body, Bonifatius is disappointed that Gerlach has a soft belly and thus doesn't train his body. He then touches his own abs and considers whether he should also train Sylvester's scholars.
Good grief... What a waste of good youth. Take inspiration from my abs, young man!
    • Bonifatius tells Sylvester that his own job is to identify immediate threats and hit them on the head until they stop moving. Sylvester's is to look and act ducal. If he wants investigative skills, intelligence gathering abilities and actual plotting, Sylvester will have to go to Ferdinand! Basically telling him: Leave the hard work of thinking to Ferdinand.
    • Bonifatius has a short temper and his Gut Feeling tells him that Viscount Gerlach is one of the culprits. He agrees to let Ferdinand investigate quietly, but when he learns that Rozemyne would have to sleep for at least a year, he is beside himself with rage and with a serious expression asks Sylvester:
Bonifatius: You'll let me hit him at least once out of anger for denying me a year's worth of time with my granddaughter, right?
Sylvester: If you want permission for that, come to me with evidence! Your instincts are not enough! Until you've done that, then no!
    • During the aforementioned negotiation and agreement, Sylvester openly called Bonifatius' gut feelings "animal instincts" while at the same time admitting they were correct more often than not, far too many times in fact! It still doesn't allow him to punch people on a hunch and in his internal narration Bonifatius admits that it was drilled into his head from early youth that he mustn't act rashly, implying that he used to punch people on a Gut Feeling when he was much younger.
  • Lutz's side chapter:
    • Ralph increasingly gets jealous and complains to Lutz that he gets to spend time with Tuuli, while she keeps turning down any of his invitations to go to the forest. When Lutz asks whether he should stop telling Ralph what Tuuli is doing, his brother backs down and asks Lutz to tell him more.
    • Benno calls Rozemyne's Gutenbergs to discuss their future plans while Rozemyne is asleep. When Johann and Zack arrive, Johann introduces himself as "the Gutenberg" hesitantly.
    • Everyone is relieved with the work they are given, especially Heidi. The one exception is Johann, because Rozemyne's wish to work on more type letters and handpumps means that, since he's the only one who can make them, he is overwhelmed with the same work as usual. When he starts to bemoan this, Zack points out that unlike everyone else, Johann doesn't have any patrons, and that if he's tired of his work he should just start training a successor already.
    • Ingo gets to make a new bookshelf, with wheels and maybe rails to slide it by the walls. Just thinking about it gives him a headache. Johann is ecstatic, though, because the wheels are supposed to be metal and it is not type letters and handpumps. He gets to make something new!
    • At the end of the chapter, around one year after Rozemyne has gone to sleep, Benno calls the Gutenbergs again for an emergency meeting because Elvira insists on expanding the printing industry in her brother's province, making everyone panic due to the sudden extra work. She's as unreasonable as Sylvester when it comes to deadlines (which Benno managed to delay by a season), and Benno laments that the only person who could stop her is comatose.
  • Fran's side chapter:
    • After having to stay in the Noble's Quarter until the Dedication Ritual, Ferdinand returns to the temple to find an overwhelming stack of paperwork that he has to take care of without Rozemyne, Damuel and Eckhart being able to help him. This drives him to make a desperate move and summon Justus to the temple to handle the workshop and the printing.
    • "If we make a lot of books and surround her with them, that weirdo might wake up earlier just to read them!"
    • Justus is explicitly warned by Ferdinand that if he starts causing trouble, he will immediately be kicked out of the temple. While he can blend in very well with the people there, his curiosity gets the better of him and he touches unfinished paper, which causes Lutz to shout at Justus in an accidental outburst. After Justus reports this to Fran, Fran immediately turns pale and internally screams.
Fran: Lutz, why in the world would you do that?! And Fritz, how could you allow that to happen?!
    • Lutz, a commoner, just shouted at Justus, an archnoble. Lutz gets pale, realizing what he has done, Justus freezes and the room gets deadly quiet. Then Fritz, who used to train under and serve Ferdinand, protectively steps up to help Lutz, calls Justus incompetent, using the same words Ferdinand would have used, and then threatens to report to Ferdinand what Justus just did. Justus then pays for the paper he just ruined and a bit more to keep them quiet, despite being the archnoble in the room and having the ability to have Lutz executed for insult if he so wished.
      • So why did he do it that way? Because he cares for Ferdinand and wouldn't want to be fired during his first day while attempting to help him with his work. Justus tells Fran it is his opportunity to make up to Ferdinand for the previous mistake he has commited and to prove himself useful, but doesn't say what the mistake was. The reader knows what it is: almost making a volcano erupt, with Ferdinand, himself and Eckhart still inside.
    • For Spring Prayer, Fran is tasked to support Charlotte, and Ferdinand hands him a bag of mana restoration potions, which Charlotte found absolutely disgusting in taste and smell in her side chapter, calling Rozemyne not just the saint, but the goddess of compassion for enduring their taste for the sake of helping people with her mana. Turns out, those were the potions with improved flavor. Rozemyne's tasted even worse.
    • Having returned to the temple, Fran sees how depressed Damuel is after he had to take back his marriage proposal because Brigitte wanted to move back to Illgner. His mood gets worse when he hears Ella and Hugo declaring their intention to marry and Fran can see Damuel covering his ears. That scene has an illustration in which one half is focused on Fran, with Damuel turning his back to the scene while covering his ears looking like a Funny Background Event.
    • Ferdinand cannot give his permission for Ella and Hugo to marry, since they are Rozemyne's chefs and she is asleep. When Fran notifies the two of this, Ella shrugs it off, but Hugo is shocked and starts shaking Fran's shoulders while complaining about his bad luck. Fran, as a gray priest who is forbidden to marry, unfortunately can't empathize.
Hugo: Gah! Am I fated to never get married?! I can get girlfriends, but not wives?! Is that how it is, Fran?!
    • After Fran learns that the gray shrine maiden Lily is pregnant and will be sent back to the orphanage, he asks Ferdinand how to handle this. Clueless as Ferdinand is about giving birth, he just tells Fran to ignore her and let the baby be born on its own. When Tuuli and Lutz hear of this, they get angry and Fran realizes that Ferdinand's "advice" was completely useless. When they ask Benno for help, he reacts in a similar way.
Tuuli: Ignore her?! Born on its own?! That's ridiculous! Childbirth is a crazy big deal! Do noble babies just pop out of thin air or something?!
Benno: Babies don't just come out on their own! It's too dangerous to have people that ignorant handle this! That woman's gonna die there!
    • Elvira demands to establish a workshop in Haldenzel because she needs something printed for the next winter socializing, no matter the cost, which is why the workshop in the temple will handle the printing. Ferdinand waves it through without wanting to bother with it anymore and when Fran inspects what kind of books Elvira had the orphans print, he realizes that it's illustrations of Ferdinand. When Fran asks whether Ferdinand has really approved of this, a sleep-deprived and annoyed Benno tells him to keep his mouth shut and that Ferdinand ordered them to print whatever Elvira wanted.
  • In an epic fit of irony, Ferdinand quickly regrets his comments about harvesting Rozemyne's high-quality mana, because one of his duties is draining excess mana from Rozemyne while she is lying unconscious in jureve potion, less the potion gets overwhelmed and bad things happen. Rozemyne has so much high-quality, extremely compressed mana that Ferdinand has to spend a few hours at least once a week harvesting it, and he has gathered almost all available mana-storing feystones in the duchy for that purpose and is still running out of them, leaving him the only recourse of waiting for the nobles "in the know" of her condition to drain the feystones quickly enough and return them to him. The other recourse being to curse his hubris, which he repeatedly does. Some of his grumblings can be heard during Fran's side chapter, such as "That fool has compressed her mana too much." and other things in that vein.
  • Unlike what Damuel expected, Bonifatius and Karstedt are quite proud of Damuel for choosing loyalty over love by taking back his marriage proposal to Brigitte. Just as Damuel is about to show his relief, Bonifatius states that he intends to reward Damuel by training him even harder than he already did.
Please go easy on me... But of course, Lord Bonifatius had never gone easy on someone in his life. My days of suffering both a broken heart and a broken body continued until the day Lady Rozemyne woke up.
  • Ella's side chapter:
    • Hugo is depressed that he lost a duel with Leise, making him sulk in the kitchen and looking for comfort from Nicola. This annoys Ella, so she tells Nicola that she should go to Fran and let Hugo return to the lower city (because the food tastes worse). Nicola has no idea this would get Hugo fired, so she eagerly tries to leave. A panicked Hugo then gets back to work.
    • While peeling potatoffels, Hugo gets a Love Epiphany and then proposes to Ella. Ella reciprocates, but asks him to postpone his proposal, since Nicola is standing right next to them and staring at them curiously.

Part 4

    Volume 1
  • The prologue is told from Ferdinand's view and he is really interested to learn more about Rozemyne's condition, since she is the first person he knows who has slept in a jureve for two years. When he starts asking questions, she gives a big fake smile and calls him a Mad Scientist. Since she says "Mad Scientist" in English note  (and not in the native language of Yurgenschmidt), Ferdinand doesn't understand what she's saying, but he knows it was meant to be insulting so he flicks her forehead. She can't even rub the place he hit because her arms have atrophied during the time she slept.
  • Rozemyne is very surprised when she learns that Elvira took over the printing business in Ferdinand's stead because he was too busy. The surprise comes from the fact that she knows exactly what Elvira wanted to print and she didn't expect Ferdinand to give his permission. Upon realizing that Ferdinand still has no idea what he gave his permission for almost a year after the fact, Rozemyne switches the topic quickly.
  • Rozemyne is informed about how the relationships of the people around her have progressed. She is excited to hear that Volk will be a father, and that Hugo has found a marriage partner, but when she learns that Lamprecht's love life didn't work out, she looks very disinterested and urges Ferdinand to tell her more about Brigitte and Damuel. Ferdinand didn't realize that Rozemyne really doesn't care that much about Lamprecht because she didn't spend much time with him, unlike with the others.
  • To help Rozemyne move again, Ferdinand attaches magic tools to Rozemyne's arms that strengthen them. Rozemyne then asks why Ferdinand didn't attach more tools to her legs, who reacts with exasperation as he would have to remove her underwear first to do that. He calls her an exhibitionist, but Rozemyne sharply retorts that he forgot to mention the tools need skin contact to work.
  • Rozemyne still doesn't feel well, and since she slept for two years, she couldn't study and would have to cram a lot, which is why she wants to postpone her attendance at the Royal Academy by a year. Ferdinand brings up the fact that she would then enter the Royal Academy at the same time as Charlotte, meaning she can't exactly act as Charlotte's big sister. Rozemyne immediately changes her mind.
  • While practicing with Rosina, Rozemyne notes that her skills have worsened a lot and she is worried that she might not be skilled enough and embarrass herself when she attends the Academy. Rosina is not worried, since Ferdinand has arranged a study plan of rapidly increasing difficulty.
  • Both funny and heartwarming. Rozemyne helps Ferdinand with his paperwork again to the relief of his attendants. She warns them that she can't help for too long, but they express their happiness that Ferdinand won't be summoned as much as before anymore. Sylvester used Rozemyne's absence to delegate work to Ferdinand again. Rozemyne is not amused.
Grr! Sylvester! How dare you exploit Ferdinand again!
  • While visiting the orphanage and seeing how much Dirk, who is also her proxy for Kamil, has grown, Rozemyne briefly gets the mental image of being outgrown by Dirk and Kamil, who are both more than seven years younger than her, going by her real age.
  • Rozemyne gets to meet Gil, Lutz, and Benno in the hidden room again, where she can be her true self. She mentions how Gil and Lutz look like completely different people. But not Benno. He just looks old. Benno promptly hits her. Lutz, meanwhile, asks her if she has shrunk.
  • Back in the castle, Rozemyne has to cram material to prepare for the Royal Academy, but she really isn't too motivated and just wants to do the bare minimum. Ferdinand then tells her that if she finishes her exams quickly, she can visit the library of the Academy, which has the second-largest book collection in the country. Rozemyne immediately gets fired up and starts studying with new vigor.
  • Rihyarda has been assigned as Rozemyne's attendant at the Royal Academy. Not because she is an excellent manager, but because she is supposed to stop Rozemyne from spending too much time in the library and drag her out if necessary. That was Ferdinand's biggest worry. He knows exactly how Rozemyne ticks.
Rozemyne: O-Oh my... My goodness... I would, ahem, I would certainly return to my room upon closing time. Ohohoho...
  • Over the two years, Wilfried has grown much taller and Charlotte has outgrown Rozemyne, who didn't grow at all. Charlotte declares her intention to protect Rozemyne, but Rozemyne, as the older sister, retorts that she should protect Charlotte.
I could tell from her expression that she thought my declaration was cute; from her perspective, I was just a little child trying to look tough.
How could this be happening? I'm supposed to be the big sister here...
  • Rozemyne wants to thank Bonifatius for saving her life, so she gifts him an origami thank-you letter in the shape of a heart (❤). Bonifatius is visibly confused, but when Rozemyne recreates the shape with her fingers and tells him that it represents her love for him, Bonifatius is shocked into Stunned Silence (out of happiness), which Rozemyne misinterprets as him not liking the letter. She opens the letter and unfolds the origami, but then notices that he looks utterly unhappy. Elvira walks over to see whether the content of the letter was inappropriate, deems it fine, and then smoothly suggests to Rozemyne to fold the letter back. It's heavily implied Bonifatius is holding back his feelings for his granddaughter the whole time to not accidentally kill her.
  • Rozemyne then asks Bonifatius to train her in Magic Enhancement. He accepts and promises to make her the strongest person in Ehrenfest. She quickly has to explain to him that she really doesn't want to be that, she just needs to use magic to move without magic tools again.
  • Wilfried's guard knights collectively react with a quiet but happy "Ooh!" when Rozemyne approves teaching them her mana compression method.
  • Rozemyne is taking dancing lessons to learn the dedication whirl. As the name indicates, it involves twirling like a spinning top. After hearing the instructions, Rozemyne and her siblings do some preparatory exercises, which end up hurting Rozemyne, since she still hasn't fully recovered from her two years of sleep yet.
Ow ow ow ow! My body's even stiffer than I thought!
  • While training at the Knight's Order with Bonifatius, he excitedly asks Rozemyne to pour some of her mana into his manablade. His hopes are shattered when Rozemyne explains that she can't do this without Ferdinand's permission. Rozemyne immediately sees that Bonifatius is about to charge forward to get what he wants and stops him by telling him that she has to relearn her mana control first.
  • Rozemyne is learning more about the civil war that was fought in the Sovereignty. She calls the royal family a bunch of idiots for killing so many nobles, which led to the country losing a lot of their power. Ferdinand agrees, but calls her the biggest idiot of all for loudly voicing her thoughts.
  • Florencia, Elvira, and Rozemyne are discussing Rozemyne's new outfits with Corinna. Aside from a few alterations Rozemyne suggests, all of her opinions are being ignored.
  • Wilfried is wondering why Rozemyne is still using her highbeast to move around, when she is supposed to have become healthier. She tells him that she still can't walk without magic tools and he starts questioning her sanity, since she's been training with Bonifatius. To him, Bonifatius' Training from Hell is practically suicide.
  • During the greetings of winter socializing, Viscountess Dahldolf (who notoriously hates Rozemyne) approaches Rozemyne to greet her. Wilfried quickly interferes and fends her off by asking her to find her husband.
  • Rozemyne goes to Ferdinand's office to pay the people who gathered information for her during her sleep. When she arrives, she finds everyone standing in line sick to their stomachs. She asks what exactly Ferdinand said when he summoned them. His phrasing made it sound like they were about to be reprimanded by the archduke's half-brother. Rozemyne quickly tells them the real reason they were summoned to make them relax.
Rozemyne: Ferdinand, everyone seems a little nervous. Might I ask what your exact phrasing was when you summoned them?
Ferdinand: To come at once upon finishing lunch. Why?
Rozemyne: (thinking) Holy gods, Ferdinand! Of course they'll shove their lunches down their throats and rush over when you phrase it like that!
  • Among the people that are seeing Rozemyne off is Bonifatius, who promises her that Angelica and Cornelius will keep her safe, since he trained them. He also promises to train Damuel even harder while she's gone. Damuel winces in fear of more Training from Hell from Bonifatius, and Rozemyne silently sympathizes with him.
    Godspeed, Damuel. Godspeed.
  • Even during winter socializing, Ferdinand has Rozemyne cram material nonstop until she is about to leave for the Royal Academy. Rozemyne asks whether she really is ready and he assures her that her studies are all "an investment for the future". He tells her that there is only one reason he is enforcing these studies on her and asks her what it is. Rozemyne thinks it's so she won't embarrass herself as an archduke candidate and Ferdinand only gives her a vague "more or less". When it's time to leave for the Academy, Ferdinand orders Rozemyne to finish her exams quickly, so she can return halfway through winter to help him with the Dedication Ritual. With an evil smile, he reveals that this was the only reason he helped her cram.
Ferdinand: For what purpose do you think I assisted you with your cramming despite having so much work of my own?
Rozemyne: Well... didn't you say it was an investment for my future?
Ferdinand: I believe I said it was an investment for the future.
Rozemyne: Wait... are you trying to tell me this was all for your benefit?!
(Ferdinand stays silent, only putting on the most radiant fake smile ever)
  • When Rozemyne meets Judithe for the first time, she notices how Judithe views Angelica like a role model and interprets everything she says in the best way possible. Even Angelica is weirded out by this.
  • Shortly after Wilfried arrives in the Royal Academy, the dorm supervisor of the Ehrenfest dormitory, Professor Hirschur, appears to greet them and explain the rules to the new students. She warns everyone to not fail the classes, as if they have to stay during spring, the archducal couple would remember this when they come to the Sovereignty for the Archduke Conference, and not in a good way. Rozemyne immediately thinks of Angelica having had to stay at the Academy during spring in Part 3.
    Oh no, Angelica... Oh nooo...
  • Hirschur tells Rozemyne that showing dedication to one's studies encourages others to work hard as well. Rozemyne immediately views this as a valid excuse to read all the time to do her "duty".
  • Rozemyne later needs advice on who to choose as her guard knights, but Angelica has not given much thought to the subject. She apologizes, but Rozemyne notices that she really doesn't feel sorry and torn up about it. She has begun to imitate Bonifatius more and more and has stopped trying to think. Stenluke then starts lecturing her.
Rozemyne: You truly have no intention of ever thinking for yourself, do you?
    Angelica: No. None at all.
  • As a way to improve Ehrenfest's grades, Rozemyne splits the students into study groups and offers rewards to the best-performing students. To not give the knights' group an unfair advantage and make Angelica use her head again, Rozemyne forbids her from using Stenluke, and Stenluke readily agrees. Angelica starts crying, but Rozemyne internally notes that Angelica is making the same face she makes whenever she doesn't want to use her brain.
  • Rozemyne needs to choose her guards for the Advancement Ceremony. When Angelica tries to offer her service, Cornelius drags her to her study group, as she is clearly trying to find any excuse to not study. Judithe is a bit shocked to see her idol not being as great as she always thought.
  • Rozemyne compliments Leonore for her diligent studies, as she has already prepared herself for upcoming material. Leonore returns the compliment, stating that Rozemyne has already learned all of this when she helped Angelica study.
Rozemyne: My, you really are talented.
Leonore: [Cornelius] informed me that it was all material you learned two years ago, Lady Rozemyne.
Rozemyne: I only helped Damuel so that he could teach Angelica. I certainly haven't memorized it all, and there is much I have forgotten.
Leonore: Yet more humility. You truly are a modest individual, Lady Rozemyne.
Rozemyne: (thinking) Er, no... It's the truth.
  • Hirschur appears again to tell the students where, when and how the ceremony will be held. She then tells them that she will be busy with her studies and then disappears again. Rozemyne then learns that in previous years the only way to communicate with Hirschur was through ordonannzes and that she only appeared at the beginning and the end of the season to open and close the dormitory. Hirschur is a Mad Scientist, just like Ferdinand.
  • To show off Ehrenfest's trends, Rozemyne instructs all noble girls to use rinsham on their hair. The next day, even the boys notice how silky and glossy the girls' hair looks and Wilfried agitatedly starts asking Rozemyne what she is plotting and if she is trying to start open trendsetting war with other, more powerful duchies. Rozemyne calls that move a warning shot. If she wanted to start (and win!) a war, she would have used recipes, dresses, books and hair sticks too. As things stand now, she is just waiting for next year until Charlotte joins them at the academy as well. Wilfried's eyes widen and he tells her that she should tell him before she does something like that, because they are a team and he now has more experience in dealing with nobles than her because of her long sleep.
  • First greetings:
    • When Wilfried and Rozemyne greet Prince Anastasius, he shows disappointment when he sees Rozemyne. He expected someone of unparalleled beauty and wisdom, but Rozemyne turns out to look like a child. Rozemyne is not amused and tries to downplay the rumors. As she later finds out, the likely culprit for these rumors was Hartmut, who is obsessed with spreading her legend.
    • Prince Anastasius mocks the fact that Sylvester apparently was so desperate that he had to adopt a small child like Rozemyne and call her a saint. Rozemyne's response to this is just dripping with sarcasm, while she's internally complaining even more. The manga shows how her fellow Ehrenfest students turn pale when they hear Rozemyne talk to the prince like that.
Anastasius: Ehrenfest must be in truly dire straits if they have no choice but to prop up such a middling girl as a saint.
Rozemyne: That is exactly correct, Prince Anastasius. Your wisdom truly does befit your status. As you know, Ehrenfest is a dearly lacking duchy with nothing of note. Our mana shortage is so great that the archduke had no choice but to adopt me and build me up as a saint. Our situation is so dire, in fact, that we hopelessly pray for the flowers we offered to the gods to perhaps return to us one day. (Like you don't know it's your fault. We were a backwater duchy struggling to survive to begin with, and then you royals had your dumb civil war that caused so much damage that you had to steal mana from all your duchies just to keep functioning. At least give back the priests you took for the Sovereign temple.)
    • Anastasius comments on the fact that Rozemyne didn't bring order to Ehrenfest, considering she was attacked by nobles from her own duchy. Rozemyne is just glad that she was the only victim. In context, this is another insult to the royal family, whose civil war and The Purge led to countless victims.
    • After Anastasius gestures Ehrenfest's students to leave, Rozemyne thinks that things went pretty well. She apparently wasn't aware that she just basically called the second prince an idiot who fell for some rumors, and when he retaliated, she doubled down and insulted the entire royal family. As she later finds out, Anastasius is pretty pissed at her, but she has no idea why.
  • After the greetings, food is served. The main course tastes rather unremarkable, but the dessert looks quite terrific and beautifully decorated. However, after only one bite, Rozemyne realizes that it's loaded with sugar to the point that she has to reach for a drink to wash it down. Her fellow students also say that the dessert doesn't taste very good after the first two bites.
  • During dinner, Cornelius informs Rozemyne how her average day would look like. There is no time left for Rozemyne to spend in the library. Rozemyne starts protesting, but Cornelius is firm on this. Wilfried makes Rozemyne stop, when he brings up that she looks like a toddler throwing a tantrum. Ferdinand has decided that Rozemyne is not allowed to go to the library until she has passed all her classes.
Grr! Curse you, Ferdinand! How far will you go to interfere with my plan to hole up in the library? It seems like you might be my greatest foe after all.
  • Hearing that she just needs to pass her exams to be able to visit the library, Rozemyne gets fired up. Wilfried goes one step further and tells her that she would have to help all other first-years pass too. Rozemyne accepts and promises that she will dedicate her all to this. What follows is Rozemyne turning into Drill Sergeant Nasty and subjecting all first-years to brutal cramming sessions to make them pass all at once, so that she can go to the library as quickly as possible. Wilfried realizes what he has just done (despite Ferdinand's warnings as Rozemyne later finds out) and reacts with exasperation, but Hartmut reacts with delight at seeing the Saint of Ehrenfest performing another miraculous deed for her duchy. Cornelius later informs Rozemyne that the older students looked at the first-years with pity and Angelica prayed and thanked the gods that she is not in the same year as Rozemyne.
  • In the first practical exam, the students have to learn how to control mana by pouring mana into a feystone and then removing it again. Everyone but Rozemyne quickly passes, as whenever Rozemyne touches a feystone, it is overloaded with mana and turns into golden dust. When Hirschur tells Rozemyne that the golden dust is quite valuable, she asks herself what happened to the dust that was left from Bezewanst's feystone back in Part 2, Volume 4 and if Ferdinand gathered it like the Mad Scientist that he is.
  • Hirschur informs Rozemyne that she needs to remove the Magic Enhancement tool on her arm and then helps Rozemyne control her mana more delicately. She makes ten feystones explode before Hirschur allows her to pass. When Rozemyne is done, Hirschur places the fragments of the exploded feystones next to Rozemyne, urging her to turn them into dust for her.
  • During her conversation with Rozemyne, Hirschur administers several Secret Tests of Character to her, which she is completely unaware of. One of which is asking Rozemyne to fix several magic tools that Ferdinand made when he was a first and second year student. After she has witnessed the complete annihilation of low level feystones that Rozemyne did just a little earlier. And before Rozemyne has any classes in magecraft and making of magic tools. Rozemyne accidentally passes the test by essentially telling her that she is not Ferdinand and Hirschur shouldn't treat her as such. Only for Hirschur to tell her that they'll wait until after Rozemyne finishes her classes and then will talk again.
  • After Rozemyne returns to her dormitory, a crying Angelica begs Rozemyne to let her do her duty as a guard. Cornelius urges Rozemyne to "finish" Angelica, and Rozemyne happily obliges by ordering Angelica to finish her classes quickly so that she may guard Rozemyne again. Cornelius then switches guard duty with Leonore and drags Angelica away, while Rozemyne can hear Angelica wailing throughout the hall.
  • Leonore is jealous of Angelica and asks Rozemyne whether the rumors that Angelica will marry one of Karstedt's sons is true. Rozemyne, who knows what an airhead Angelica is, is confused and thinks this is a crazy idea.
  • Back in the common room, Rozemyne asks Wilfried whether the first-years have to pass all the practical exams, too, before she is allowed to visit the library. Having seen what a brutal teacher she can be when she is pushed, he hurriedly shakes his head, and the rest of the first-years sigh in relief. Rozemyne internally is relieved, too, since this means she can visit the library earlier than expected.
  • Rozemyne intends to lend the nobles who can't afford the library fee money in exchange for them transcribing books for her that Ehrenfest doesn't have. When Wilfried asks her how she is supposed to know which books aren't already in Ehrenfest's castle, she informs him that this is quite easy, since she already has catalogued every book that she read. Wilfried can't believe what he's hearing and wonders when, exactly, she had the time to do this and whether she really was asleep for two years.
  • During her first practical music lesson, Rozemyne notices that compared to other trained nobles, Ferdinand, Sylvester, Rosina, and Wilma were simply too talented. She bemoans the fact that she could have slacked off and spent that time reading instead.
  • Hartmut wants to use Ferdinand's trick and tells Rozemyne she should bless the whole practice hall during harspiel practice like she did during her winter debut. The suggestion causes her to pause before she very firmly denies that request, with a completely emotionless face, again and again since Hartmut insists. Her internal narration reveals the full extent of her growing panic. The blessing during her winter debut was an accident that Ferdinand turned into an advantage in the first place. Since then, she had spent two years in jureve, so she now wears magic tools that interfere with her finer mana control. Making things worse, Rozemyne now also has a lot more mana at her disposal. Just thinking what could happen to people she gives a mass blessing to causes her to recoil in fear for their health.
  • For Rozemyne's first performance, she decides to play the anime song that she taught Ferdinand. She has grown quite fond of it. The original song surprises the music professor, who asks what it's called and who composed it. Rozemyne wanted to say that it was composed by an unnamed musician, but Wilfried butts in and proudly proclaims that Rozemyne composed it and many other songs. The professor promptly asks to hear the other songs too.
Nooo! A surprise ambush, and from the person I least expected! Wilfried! You're such a big, stupid dummy!
  • Rozemyne asks the Ehrenfest students to work on study guides for the next year and promises to pay them properly if the guides turn out to be good. While the med- and laynobles happily accept, the archnobles aren't so invested. One archnoble even says, while they are willing to help since it's Rozemyne who asked, they feel it's beneath them. Rozemyne gets pissed and later offers her mana compression method. She names the price, but notes that they have to use money that they earned themselves, which makes the archnobles loudly protest, since the two large gold for archnobles is quite a hefty price. Cornelius, who has already learned the method, asks why she suddenly added this condition.
Rozemyne: It seems the archnobles do not understand just how difficult it is to earn money, so I wish for them to learn. This is certainly not because I became irritated with an ignorant archnoble who described earning money as unsightly behavior.
(Cornelius scans the room, searching for the culprit)
  • Rozemyne sees Wilfried produce a lion as his highbeast, but it only has one head, while Sylvester's has three. She says that she considers Sylvester's highbeast the strangest she has ever seen. Wilfried's response boils down to "That's rich coming from you! You troublemaking weirdo, you! " and is very soon proven correct.
  • Rozemyne needs to create a highbeast for her next exam. When an annoyed Professor Fraularm note  tells Rozemyne to make hers already instead of talking with Wilfried, Rozemyne produces Lessy. Weirdly, none of the students react with fear, which Wilfried thinks is because they never saw a grun feybeast before. The professor however does and yells at Rozemyne to take it seriously. Rozemyne confidently boasts that her beast is superior to everyone else's, notes that she can ride it without having to change her clothes, and she can change its shape so that more people can fit inside, which even surprises Wilfried who sees this for the first time. The professor then protests that it can't possibly fly, since it doesn't have wings, so Rozemyne quickly proves her wrong and starts flying circles around the hall, at which point the professor faints, forcing two knights to come and carry her away. She would later claim that Rozemyne attacked her with her feybeast highbeast.
  • Hirschur then comes to replace Fraularm, clearly annoyed that she had to interrupt her potion brewing. She asks Rozemyne to show her Lessy and the scene cuts away. One chapter later Rozemyne notes how Hirschur "went nuts" over Lessy out of excitement.
  • On the next day, Rozemyne and Wilfried go to their mana compression lesson:
    • Ten teachers appear and try to help the students how to compress their mana. All of them explain their own idea of how it works, and they are all right, but what they are saying sounds partially contradictory, which just confuses the students.
Wilfried: Aren't these explanations kind of a mess? What exactly am I supposed to be doing here?
    • Rozemyne teaches Wilfried the first step of compressing mana. When Wilfried asks how many steps her method contains, she mentions that the final third step made even Ferdinand sick, which shocks Wilfried.
    • Rozemyne has to show Professor Hirschur and Rauffen that she can compress her mana. She is thinking up another step to compress her mana further, but Rauffen's loud encouragement just distracts her and makes her lose her concentration. He reminds her of a gym teacher from Earth.
Please shut up. I'm trying to focus.
    • Rozemyne uses Hirschur's advice and imagines boiling her mana, as if she is cooking. Rozemyne imagines music playing in the back of her head like in a cooking show back on Earth, which ends with an announcer saying "And here we have freshly boiled mana!"
    • Wilfried is quite proud of himself for compressing his mana and passing the exam. Rozemyne warns him not to overdo it, since trying to secretly compressing mana further may lead to a collapse. Wilfried and nearby archduke candidates who overhear her start to jerk in fear, causing the professors who are watching the students to chuckle.
    • Back in the Ehrenfest dormitory, Hirschur silently and elegantly, but still quickly, approaches Rozemyne, sending waves of surprise to the older students, because it's highly unusual for Hirschur to show up at all.
    • Seeing as Rozemyne knocked out Fraularm the other day, Hirschur explains that she decided to err on the side of caution for the mana compression lesson and brought a magic tool that was specifically designed for Ferdinand, because she suspected that something unusual would happen. Rozemyne silently apologizes in her head, because Hirschur was right.
    • Hirschur explains that Rozemyne misunderstood the assignment. She just needed to show she can compress her mana, and Rozemyne thought she needed to compress her mana even more than she already did, which is not how a normal person would think. The easiest way to pass would have been to decompress her mana before putting on the magic measuring tool, then compress her mana again. This causes Hirschur to show an exhausted expression because that is definitely what Ferdinand's disciple would do, except unlike Ferdinand Rozemyne lacks self-awareness.
    • Because Ferdinand looks much older than he is, Rozemyne constantly mentally assumes that Hirschur is his friend from school. That is technically correct. Hirschur is his friend from his school days... but that is Intergenerational Friendship and she is also "The Ferdinand's" mentor, Izumi Curtis to his Fullmetal Alchemist and badass in her own right. Rozemyne gets the shock of her lifetime once she realizes that.
    • Hirschur wants to learn Rozemyne's mana compression method. She excitedly asks Rozemyne to teach it to her, and Rozemyne replies that Hirschur would need the permission of Ehrenfest's six leaders (yes, she included herself) to discourage her. Unimpressed, Hirschur quickly figures out that Rozemyne must be talking about Sylvester, Florencia, Karstedt, Elvira, and Ferdinand, who all owe her favors. However, she can't figure out the sixth person, guessing that it could be Bonifatius or Rihyarda, but she's not entirely sure. The fact that she reveals with a grin on her face that she knows everything about Ehrenfest's leaders and can make them comply scares Rozemyne and makes her break into a cold sweat.
Gaaah! Professor Hirschur has Ehrenfest's leaders under her thumb! She knows all their secrets and weaknesses! HELP ME, FERDINAAAND!
  • Rozemyne's first visit to the Academy's library:
    • Throughout the chapter, Rozemyne is bursting with happiness and can be heard "tralala"ing the whole time.
    • Angelica brings up to Lieseleta that she is in a Brains and Brawn relationship with Rozemyne, so she is complementing Rozemyne's intelligence with her strength. Lieseleta points out that once Rozemyne gets physically better and masters enhancement magic, Angelica would have to study to match her again, shocking Angelica again that she can't avoid studying, while everyone is laughing at her realization.
    • To prepare for her tea party with the music teachers, Rozemyne composes a song that she could present to them with Rosina. In celebration of visiting the library, she dedicates it to Mestionora the Goddess of Wisdom, but Wilfried asks her why the lyrics sound more like she is singing about the library.
    • Rihyarda reminds Rozemyne that she still has practical lessons that she needs to pass, so after registering, she doesn't have time to explore the library and read something. Rozemyne internally has already planned to at least have a quick peek at the books there and compares it to taste-testing food like a chef. Rihyarda sees through Rozemyne's intentions and gives her another stern warning.
    • On their way to the library, Cornelius points out where the many different buildings in the Academy are and that the knights' building is the furthest away from the library. He glares at Angelica and mentions that they don't expect apprentice knights to visit the library much. As it turns out, despite being in her final year, Angelica has never registered for the library, which earns her a scolding from Stenluke.
    • After registering, Rozemyne wants to go to the reading room, but she is met with a very angry glare from Rihyarda, who denies her wish (because it is quite a hard work having to physically pull Rozemyne away from her beloved books and Rihyarda is not as young as she once was), which causes Rozemyne to throw another tantrum. Seeing her crying like that, everyone else panics and begs Rihyarda to reconsider, so she reluctantly agrees. After they all promised they will help Rihyarda pull Rozemyne away if she gets engrossed in reading.
  • Schwartz and Weiss:
    • Rozemyne notices that the usually calm Lieseleta can't help but sigh dreamily after seeing Schwartz and Weiss. She loves shumils.
    • Rozemyne learns that shumils look like rabbits and chirp "pooey". The reason why Sylvester kept teasing her by ordering her to make the same sound, back when she was an apprentice shrine maiden, dawns on her. She then tells her retainers that someone she knows once compared her to a shumil.
Lieseleta: Oh my. Now that you mention it, your golden eyes are quite similar, and your dark, silky hair is much like the fur of many shumils I've seen. Whoever made this observation was almost certainly praising your cuteness.
Rozemyne: (thinking) Yeah, I don't think so. He poked my cheek and forced me to say "pooey". That doesn't seem very praise-like to me.
    • Also, Lieseleta's description of shumils (as a noble) differs vastly from Lutz's description (as a commoner) back in Part 1. She thinks they are cute, Lutz thinks they are good hunting targets and tasty.
Lieseleta: Actual shumils are feybeasts no taller than my knees, and they are often raised by nobles as pets. They naturally cannot speak like these magic dolls can, instead communicating with chirps that sound a bit like 'pooey'. Have you never seen one before, Lady Rozemyne? They love rutrebs, and they are especially cute when they start vigorously chewing away at one.
Lutz: Shumils were small feybeasts that even kids like us could hunt. They were about as tall as my knees and were useful for their meat, pelt, bones, feathers, and fat. Their meat was especially soft and delicious compared to other things we could hunt. Since shumils loved to eat rutrebs, a summer fruit, their meat got even better as they grew in number over the summer.
    • As Rozemyne is shown the reading room, she is so happy, she wants to praise the gods again. Wilfried immediately yells at her that she hasn't even gone inside yet.
    • Schwartz and Weiss were built by a princess, which is why they call their master "milady". Yes, even the male librarians.
    • In the middle of stroking Schwartz and Weiss and supplying them with mana, Weiss asks Rozemyne for new clothes. The sudden unrelated question visibly confuses Rozemyne.
  • During the court etiquette lesson, the archduke candidates are supposed to treat the professors in the mock tea party as if they were royalty, with which the archduke candidates, who are used to being the highest authority in the room, clearly struggle. Rozemyne helps Wilfried by telling him that Ferdinand is watching him. Wilfried immediately tenses up, clearly remembering the past two years he spent with his uncle, and manages to pass the exam on the first day. When Rozemyne later tells Rihyarda what happened, she bursts out laughing.
  • After successfully passing the court etiquette exam, Rozemyne gracefully walks back to her dormitory. As soon as she closes the dormitory door, she's Suddenly Shouting "I PASSED COURT ETIQUETTE!"
  • Rozemyne suddenly gets another visit by Hirschur:
    • As a master creator of magic tools, Hirschur immediately went to her dorm after hearing that Schwartz and Weiss were reactivated. Rozemyne asks Hirschur why she thinks it was her who revived them, and Hirschur just rolls her eyes, as all she needed to hear was that the Ehrenfest first-years were touring the library with two large shumils. It couldn't be anyone but Rozemyne.
    • Rozemyne and Hirschur begin their Battle of Wits. Rozemyne doesn't want Hirschur to dismantle Schwartz and Weiss and rob Solange of some much needed help, and Hirschur retorts that she just wants to remove their clothes. Rozemyne immediately asks whether Hirschur has a fetish for stripping magic tools of their clothes.
    • As Rozemyne remains stubborn, Hirschur's brows start knitting and she taps her temple with her finger while thinking about how to convince Rozemyne.
Oh my gosh. Ferdinand really did get a bunch of his quirks from Professor Hirschur.
    • Hirschur then remembers that Rozemyne is required to gift Schwartz and Weiss new clothes as their new master. Rozemyne tries to play dumb, but Hirschur isn't fooled. She would only observe while Rozemyne and her retainers would take off their clothes and take their measurements, she wouldn't touch them.
As far as I was concerned, that excuse was no better than saying something like, "Just let me follow you into the shower. Don't worry though, I won't strip you myself."
    • Hirschur then suggests a deal: If Rozemyne allows Hirschur to observe Schwartz and Weiss, she will preside over the rest of Rozemyne's magecraft lessons. Seeing as Rozemyne pissed off Professor Fraularm and needs to pass all exams to be allowed to go to the library, Rozemyne has no choice but to accept.
She's... She's a demon! Hirschur is a demon seducing her students to the dark side!
After an intense battle of wits, I ultimately succumbed to the whispers of a demon who would make my life easier all the way to graduation.
  • After Rozemyne acquires her Divine Will feystone for her schtappe, she realizes that any mana she intends to use for her magic tools that help her moving is absorbed by the feystone. Being physically exhausted, she passes out. She is suddenly woken up by a shouting Professor Rauffen. As it turns out, Hirschur followed Rozemyne into the cave after she didn't return. Hirschur tried to wake Rozemyne up by calling her out, but to no avail, so she went back and returned with some other professors, and only Rauffen was able to shout loudly enough.
And that was how the Saint of Ehrenfest nearly climbed the towering stairway on her journey to acquire her Divine Will. It hadn't been my intention, but I was now the focus of yet another new legend in Royal Academy history.
  • First Earthday:
    • Rozemyne recalls what happened after the professors woke her up in the Farthest Hall. She went back to her dormitory by riding Lessy, which made Rauffen exclaim that "it sure looks tough". Rozemyne was too tired to loudly protest.
Lessy's not tough! He's cute, and adorable!
    • The way Hirschur praises the practicality of Lessy while insulting its appearance reminds Rozemyne of Ferdinand.
Like teacher, like student, I suppose...
    • While resting in her room and absorbing her Divine Will feystone, Rozemyne gets bored and wants to read. Rihyarda refuses, but Rozemyne quickly grabs a book after absorbing her Divine Will, when Rihyarda leaves. Finding Rozemyne with a book in her hands reminds Rihyarda of how stubborn Sylvester and Ferdinand were as children. She quickly gets irritated and snatches the book away.
    • Rihyarda wants to know whether Rozemyne plans to become the aub in the future, since she was adopted into the archducal family.
Rihyarda: There is no problem with your bloodline either, as Karstedt has the blood of the archduke from two generations ago.
Rozemyne: (Oh boy. There are some serious political problems with my bloodline, I assure you.)
    • Rihyarda leaves again after confirming that Rozemyne has no interest to become Ehrenfest's new aub (presumably to scold Hartmut). Once Rozemyne thinks Rihyarda's gone, she picks another book from a hiding spot. She wanted to keep the book hidden, but fell asleep while reading, so Rihyarda found out when she came back.
  • Dedication whirl practice:
    • Detlinde is seen hitting on Wilfried, who does not mind her praising him. Rozemyne quickly butts in when she sees Detlinde inviting Wilfried to a private tea party.
You'll have to forgive me for not wanting to deal with another disinheritance incident...
    • Rozemyne's internal narration referring to Rudiger as "extra-tall Wilfried".
    • Prince Anastasius, probably still not over Rozemyne insulting him when they first met, starts talking rudely to her. He wants to see her highbeast after Fraularm spread ugly rumors about being attacked by Lessy, which she promises to show him after practice, which from his point of view sounds like an invitation to spend time with her alone. Clearly not liking the attention and the Death Glares from the other noble girls surrounding Anastasius after he makes an ambiguous statement of her apparently trying to seduce him, Rozemyne tells him that she will henceforth never approach Anastasius on her own, which visibly confuses him.
    • Having heard that she was invited by the prince, Wilfried warns Rozemyne that she mustn't mess this up. After passing the dedication whirl practice, Rozemyne is so happy thinking about going to the library soon that she almost stands up Anastasius. Wilfried immediately gets irritated:
Wilfried: Rozemyne! Are you forgetting your promise to Prince Anastasius?
      Rozemyne: Oh... So I am.
      Wilfried: Are you for real...?
Rozemyne: [thinking] Whew. That was close...
    • After making Rozemyne wait for a while, Anastasius appears with some noble girls, who tell her that he has better things to do than seeing her highbeast. Rozemyne doesn't mind at all and immediately wants to leave with Rihyarda, whose face has gone completely pale.
  • Rozemyne passes the practical music lesson with ease, since she has to play a song Ferdinand already ordered her to learn. Seeing how Rozemyne already passed, Wilfried thinks she is a musical prodigy. Rozemyne reveals to him that this is all due to Ferdinand's brutal curriculum. She suggests to Wilfried that the two of them should practice together if he wants to catch up. He refuses, as being educated by Ferdinand in mana and magic tools is enough for him.
  • Rozemyne asks Hartmut not to spread more (positive) exaggerated rumors about the Saint of Ehrenfest. He already did the opposite and said that thanks to her, Ehrenfest will perform even better in the next year. She also doesn't need to stop only him anymore, as many other Ehrenfest students are spreading the rumors, too.
  • Hirschur makes a highbeast similar to Rozemyne's Lessy, but makes it look like a shumil instead. This grabs the attention of the other female students, who all begin to observe Hirschur's highbeast with great admiration. However, no one is looking at Rozemyne's Pandabus, to her disappointment.
    Rozemyne: Lessy is cute too...!
  • Schtappe fundamentals lesson:
    • Rozemyne has practiced transforming her schtappe and is more than ready for her exam. Her retainers are not so happy about this and plead for her to not rush this to give them more time for their own exams, as they will have to accompany Rozemyne to the library. Rozemyne just smiles and refuses, as she has waited long enough.
    • Hartmut then openly doubts that Rozemyne will pass on the first day (which clearly sounds like bait), which motivates Rozemyne even more to pass immediately. Having anticipated this response, Hartmut is looking forward to Rozemyne giving rise to another legend, which makes Rozemyne rethink things.
Urk... Do I really have to choose between gaining access to the library and avoiding a new legend...? This is rough... I really don't want to stand out any more than I do already―after all, obscurity is essential to a quiet, peaceful life. Then again, I won't truly be at peace until the library is mine to explore. What should I do? This truly is a philosophical dilemma for the ages...
Or is it...? Could I ever pick anything other than the library?
      No. No, I could not.
    • Wilfried is excited to see what kind of schtappe Rozemyne will make. He looks very disappointed when he learns that Rozemyne just wants to produce a simple one that all adults use and calls it boring, when her highbeast already looks so weird. Rozemyne does not like Lessy being called weird, and she didn't create him like that because she wanted to stand out in the first place.
Rozemyne: Highbeasts I can understand, but I don't see the need to obsess over schtappes too much. (You can just keep messing around with yours until you realize I'm right.)
    • Rozemyne immediately goes to Hirschur to demonstrate that she can make her schtappe. Hirschur is noted to look at Rozemyne like she was some kind of problem child and realizes that Rozemyne must have practiced on her own before already.
    • Hirschur sends Rozemyne over to Rauffen, who is supposed to teach her how to make an ordonannz. She quietly notes to Rozemyne to restrain herself, since ordonannzes don't need much mana.
    • The next step is to shoot a rott, the red signal, with the schtappe. Rauffen encourages Rozemyne to go all out, but Rozemyne wants to preserve her mana if there is another part of the lesson before she can pass. Surprised to hear this, Rauffen tells her to go all out then... but not to put her all into it. She decides to just ignore Rauffen's advice from now on and preserve her mana. During the whole rott lesson, she is snarking at Rauffen in the narration.
    • After passing the final part of the lesson, Hirschur loudly mentions that she shouldn't have expected any less from Ferdinand's prized disciple. The students who heard her quickly share stories about the legendary Ferdinand of Ehrenfest, but every one of them has heard different stories about Ferdinand, like his skills in ditter, his harspiel play, the magic tools he created and sold, or the materials he harvested by slaying countless feybeasts. They can't decide which story is true.
      All of them, probably...
    • Hirschur tells Rozemyne that she has passed. Rozemyne freaks out internally.
YES! YESSS! I DID IT! I passed all my classes! I can go to the library! I can start going to the library tomorrow! Bwahahaha! I can lock myself away in the library and read until it kills me! Praise be to the gods!
  • Epilogue:
    • The chapter is narrated by Sylvester, who remarks that in the past years Hirschur's reports were very short as nothing that was worth reporting happened. The current year is different.
I haven't had this bad of a headache since my first Archduke Conference! Curse that little problem child!
    • The first report Sylvester receives is about the retainers Rozemyne has chosen, but since they were all picked by Florencia or Elvira beforehand, or seem to be very loyal to Rozemyne according to Charlotte, Sylvester is just relieved. This feeling changes one week later when Hirschur reports everything that Rozemyne has done in just a week, up until she acquired her Divine Will.
This is all about Rozemyne! What's that little gremlin doing over there?!
    • Not knowing what to think of Hirschur's reports, Sylvester calls Ferdinand and asks him for his thoughts, hoping for Ferdinand to perhaps somehow decipher the reports of his old mentor. Ferdinand casually mentions that Wilfried's reports that he receives are more detailed, which shocks Sylvester, who has never heard about this and quickly makes his scholar-officials retreat so that only he, Ferdinand and Karstedt remain in the room.
    • Ferdinand mentions that Wilfried has frequently asked for Ferdinand's advice on how to handle Rozemyne. Ferdinand casually notes that the reports had tons of mistakes, so he felt compelled to correct Wilfried's mistakes in his responses. He then admonishes Wilfried for his foolishness to not see why Ferdinand forbade Rozemyne to enter the library until she passed all her classes. Wilfried went one step further and wanted all first-years to pass as well.
    • Ferdinand reminds Sylvester how difficult it is to control Rozemyne. She's the kind of girl who offered Bezewanst one large gold and volunteered to become a shrine maiden just to get access to the temple book room. Karstedt was also not joking when he reported that she once crawled down the halls while being sick, just to get to the book room, and that a wise man (Ferdinand) advised him to place a book beside her bed to keep her there. Sylvester realizes that none of these reports were exaggerated. Sylvester silently offers his sympathies to his son for dragging the other first-years into this chaos.
    • Ferdinand is excited to hear that Rozemyne apparently has become the master of the library's magic tools, Schwartz and Weiss. He looks forward to her return. Sylvester makes the same observation as Rozemyne, and sees how similar Ferdinand and Hirschur really are.
Like teacher, like student... What a bunch of research-obsessed weirdos.
    • Imagining that things will quiet down once Rozemyne has finished all her practical exams, only one week later Sylvester receives more headache-inducing reports: Rozemyne has made contact with Second Prince Anastasius.
Sylvester: I'd assumed there was nothing for us to worry about, since the prince is only there for one more year and there's only one class he shares with Rozemyne, but it looks like we weren't so lucky. What's the plan?
Ferdinand: There is no plan; the prince was simply interested in Rozemyne's highbeast. He ultimately prioritized other engagements over her, and now that Rozemyne has passed her dedication whirl class, they will no longer have any point of contact. Our main concern here is that Rozemyne has such a stunning lack of awareness that she forgot her promise to the prince.
Sylvester & Karstedt: SHE DID WHAT?!
    • Sylvester really wants to support Wilfried, but Ferdinand advises him against this, since duchies are forbidden from interfering in the Academy (which Sylvester finds highly hypocritical coming from Ferdinand, who keeps advising Wilfried). Karstedt assures him that Wilfried is doing better than Sylvester did at his age, which makes Sylvester realize that he must have caused his parents just as much trouble and headaches as he is now experiencing. Sylvester then silently prays:
Please don't cause any more problems than you already have...
Of course, his prayers went unanswered.
  • Lieseleta and other girls from Ehrenfest go to the library officially to secure study resources, less officially to just look at Schwartz and Weiss. It then turns out that they all forgot to bring deposit money with them, making the real reason they went library more obvious.

    Volume 2
  • On the night that Rozemyne finished all her classes:
    • Wilfried has to deliver grave news:
Wilfried: As of today, after much sacrifice... Rozemyne has passed her final class.
Rozemyne: Wilfried... What exactly do you mean by 'after much sacrifice'? Hm?
Wilfried: I mean that you could have taken it slower.
    • Rozemyne doesn't seem to understand why everyone is so upset about her finishing her classes and thinks Lieseleta's upset reaction is a bit exaggerated. Lieseleta then compares this to a hypothetical situation in which the library closed right before Rozemyne finished her classes to make her understand. After this realization, Rozemyne begins to sympathize with her retainers and plans to not rush the clothing measurement for Schwartz and Weiss, which they were all looking forward to, but didn't all qualify for attending quite yet.
    • Wilfried changes the topic and brings up the socializing that begins, now that Rozemyne is done with her classes. One thing they need to discuss is what the students should say when asked about Ehrenfest's sudden improvement. When they bring up Hartmut's instruction to give all the credit to Rozemyne, Wilfried asks whether that was Rozemyne's idea.
      No, officer, I swear.
    • When a student brings up the drivable highbeasts Rozemyne and Hirschur created during class, Rozemyne suggests making rounder highbeasts. Not because they are cute of course, but because they will offer more space inside.
    • Rozemyne orders the students to gather information about Ferdinand's legendary deeds at the Academy, which could be a good topic to bring up at tea parties. While thinking about Ferdinand, she mentions in the narration that he, in general, doesn't have a likeable personality. However, he can make a good fake noble smile and is good at Snark-to-Snark Combat.
    • Cornelius doesn't think that gathering info about Ferdinand's accomplishments in ditter is worth it, as in his day, they participated in treasure-stealing ditter, while nowadays the more favored variant is speed ditter, where defeating a chosen feybeast as quickly as possible is all that counts. Rozemyne then asks whether the apprentice knights are analyzing their foes properly to defeat them as quickly as possible and to her shock realizes that they do not. She is baffled when she learns that they don't organize into defense and offense, and have no one who observes the battle. All they do is Attack! Attack! Attack! with all their power.
  • On the next day, Rozemyne plans to go to the library to read:
    • Rozemyne gets so excited that she jumps out of bed and prays to the gods, which leads to blessings shooting up into the air. She then gets back into bed before Rihyarda enters. Rihyarda can clearly see that she's faking being asleep, since the light of the blessings can still be seen.
    • Rihyarda as an exception allows Rozemyne to go to the library early, but from the next day on she mustn't neglect her harspiel practice. Rozemyne is not happy about this.
I can't believe this. I passed all of my classes and I'm still not free. Boo! Boooo!
    • Angelica is concerned about Rozemyne going to the library with only one guard knight, claiming it's her duty to keep her safe, which may require her to skip classes. This time it's Leonore who tells her off. Cornelius then suggests to Rozemyne to only go to the library once morning classes start, for the sake of her safety. He warns her that she would have to wait until more knights become available if she can't do that (which would mean she would have to wait for Angelica to finish her classes). Rozemyne immediately promises to do as he says.
    • On the way to the library, Rozemyne sings the library song she composed with Rosina, except she replaces the prayers to the gods with "tralalas" to not accidentally give blessings.
Philine: Lady Rozemyne... Did your musician not completely rewrite the lyrics to that song?
Rozemyne: (shrug) I don't see your point.
    • Rozemyne asks what would happen if two nobles want to read the same book. Solange informs her that the one with the higher status will get the book then, which shocks her, as she is from the 13th ranked Ehrenfest. She immediately plans to raise Ehrenfest's ranking before Rihyarda calms her down.
  • Back in the dormitory, Rihyarda has to explain to Rozemyne that she is acting abnormally:
    • Rozemyne doesn't quite understand that she is pressuring Solange with her ideas to "help" in the library. To make her understand, Rihyarda uses Sylvester as an example, who would wander around, complain and force his methods on Rozemyne. Just imagining this stresses her out so much that she barely can contain her scream.
      Please, never come again!
    • Rozemyne sees Rihyarda's point and thinks that from Solange's point of view, she must be "the biggest pest in the world". Rihyarda wouldn't go that far, but agrees that Rozemyne would be to Solange as Sylvester is to Rozemyne. Rozemyne then realizes that she just indirectly called Sylvester the biggest pest in the world.
Rozemyne: Er, actuallly... Not at all. I am endlessly grateful to my dear adoptive father. I would never consider him a burden for helping me, nor would I wish he would stick to doing his own work. Ohohoho...
    • Rihyarda then suggests to Rozemyne to think of a way how Sylvester could possibly help Rozemyne with her business. Not being able to see how she could possibly cooperate with Sylvester, Rozemyne gives up her plans for the Library Committee. Rihyarda corrects herself and instead asks how Rozemyne works together with Ferdinand, which works.
  • On the next day in the library, Rozemyne notices how Leonore looks at Cornelius and recalls how Leonore once asked her about the rumors of Angelica possibly becoming Cornelius' fiancée. She puts two and two together and figures out that Leonore wants to be together with Cornelius. She silently cheers them on and notes that Bonifatius' family is more brawn than brains, so adding an intelligent girl like Leonore would benefit them.
  • Back in the dormitory, Rozemyne discusses her plans to hold a tea party with Solange with her retainers. She mostly just wants to discuss books and Schwartz and Weiss' clothes. Brunhilde starts lecturing Rozemyne that as an archduke candidate she needs to talk about other things, too, and Lieseleta expresses her high expectations that Rozemyne will learn and do well.
"Lord Wilfried often mentions that you lose sight of everything else when books are involved. Let us work together so that you can become an archduke candidate who never forgets to be graceful, and who always acts wisely. Do not worry—you guided my sister to graduation, so nothing is beyond your ability. I believe in you," she said, her eyes now full of such intense hope and trust that it honestly hurt to see. I would need to plan well so that I didn't mess up at the tea party—if not for my sake, then for hers.
  • At the tea party with Solange:
    • Rozemyne suggests to let Rosina play the song about Mestionora that they composed together. Solange is worried that this song was intended to be played for the music professors, but Rozemyne internally notes that the original lyrics were about the library anyway and that Rosina has completely removed the word "library" from the song. Her retainers, who are aware of this, have trouble to remain stone-faced and try to contain their laughter.
    • When discussing Schwartz and Weiss' new clothes, Solange warns Rozemyne that the clothes need to be practical. She recalls how when she started working as a librarian, their new master gave them hats, brooches, and other accessories. While that made them look cute, the clothes caused too much trouble and the magic tools never took the accessories off, which is why one librarian was dedicated to watching over them.
    • Solange explains that other people than Rozemyne can touch Schwartz and Weiss without triggering their protective charms as long as Rozemyne gives her permission. Rozemyne recalls what kind of person Hirschur is like and later warns Hirschur that she is only allowed to watch.
    • When Rozemyne presents Solange a bundle of sheets with stories she collected, Solange is very impressed how Rozemyne managed to gather so many stories. Rozemyne stays vague and only mentions that she had a lot of help from other children. She conveniently leaves out that she baited the children with learning materials as payment for the stories.
  • Tea party with the Music Professors:
    • While discussing how the tea party with Solange went, Rozemyne internally remarks that folders and binders could be new good products to sell along with the paper. She pulls out her diptych to write this down, which confuses Hartmut, who is recording the conversation already, and Wilfried, who wonders why she is inventing a new product in a meeting about a tea party.
    • At the tea party, Brunhilde and Rozemyne react with shock and panic when they see that Anastasius has come, too, after he heard that Eglantine of Klassenberg would attend the party. Even the music professors feel awkward about this.
    • Fascinated by Rosina's harspiel play, the host professor completely forgot to do the obligatory taste-testing.
    • Anastasius is not impressed of the pound cake Rozemyne has brought to the party, as it doesn't look very fancy, but seeing Eglantine praising the taste, he tries it, too. While he tries to hide it, Rozemyne notices that he clearly likes it too.
    • Eglantine praises Rozemyne's hair and Rozemyne returns the compliment. When Eglantine asks whether Rozemyne is using a new Ehrenfest product, Rozemyne explains the rinsham to everyone present, but regretfully mentions that it isn't for sale yet. When Anastasius sees Eglantine's disappointment, he demands from Rozemyne to sell it now. Rozemyne notices that he wants it for Eglantine's sake, so she offers to share some of her own supply with Eglantine, which she can use for the graduation ceremony. Eglantine positively beams, but Anastasius doesn't even hide his frustration when he hears Rozemyne's suggestion.
Anastasius: You. Tiny one. How come you're offering some to her when you refused me just a moment ago?
    • Angry that Rozemyne earlier refused him when he wanted to offer the rinsham to Eglantine, he suddenly orders a song from Rozemyne before graduation, clearly to embarrass her in front of everyone. To his surprise, Rozemyne composes a melody on the spot, and Eglantine is delighted. She praises the song, and Rozemyne notes that she composed it while wanting to praise Eglantine's beauty. Seeing Rozemyne (accidentally) flirting with Eglantine, Anastasius snaps and leaves the party abruptly. Explanation
Eglantine: What a lovely song... I could feel the presence of the gods melting into my heart.
Rozemyne: I composed it with thoughts of you, Lady Eglantine. You have been my Goddess of Light ever since I first saw you whirl.
Eglantine: (blushes) I am glad you are a girl, Lady Rozemyne. Had a man improvised such a wonderful song for me, my heart might have been stolen.
Anastasius: Rozemyne, give that song to Eglantine. I don't care for it. It is miserable.
(Anastasius leaves the party with Eglantine quickly following after him.)
Rozemyne: (Oh no! Talk about the social blunder of a lifetime! I'm screwed!) Whatever shall I do? It seems I have angered Prince Anastasius...
    • The professors explain to Rozemyne that Anastasius just acted like a Crazy Jealous Guy. It reminds them of Sylvester, and how hard he worked to woo Florencia. This is the first time Rozemyne has heard someone calling Sylvester a hard worker.
    • Since the professors know more about Sylvester's love life at the Academy, Rozemyne and her retainers eagerly lean forward to hear more details. However, the professors decline and then change the subject to Ferdinand's days at the Academy.
  • Measuring of Schwartz and Weiss:
    • Rozemyne learns that sewing and embroidering is a skill that is expected of noblewomen, too.
I-It's not like I skip practice, okay? I'm just two years behind everyone else because of my coma. Nobody could say that's my fault. Though it is true that I would rather spend my time reading books than waste it on trying to be a better wife in the future.
    • Hirschur comes in contact with Ehrenfest's plant paper and wonders why no one has shown her this new product until now. One of the apprentice scholars explains that Rozemyne uses them daily, so if Hirschur had come more often to the dormitory, she would have noticed already, which makes Hirschur contemplate whether it's better to stay in the dormitory while Rozemyne is attending the Academy, considering the chaos she is causing. Wilfried agrees with Hirschur and suggests that she should start sending daily reports.
The two went on to discuss this matter with very serious expressions. I personally didn't think it was very accurate to say I was causing "chaos," and I would rather Hirschur report on my activities as little as possible.
    • After the successful tea party with the music professors, Rosina got more motivated than ever and suggested to increase the harspiel practice time (which Rozemyne naturally rejected to read books instead). During their harspiel practice, she tells an unenthusiastic Rozemyne to at least learn to play the songs she composed herself.
    • While examining the clothes Schwartz and Weiss are wearing, Hirschur notices that they were crafted and embroidered with extremely high-level magic circles and feystones. Rozemyne gets worried that the new clothes she will have to make will have to at least be of the same quality. Hirschur informs Rozemyne that embroidering magic circles is also part of the bridal training noble girls go through.
I've been looking down on bridal training this whole time, but it was that important all along?! Oh no! I'm so bad with my hands!
    • Hirschur also notes that the first step they will have to take for the new clothes is to gather the (very expensive and rare) materials... but it shouldn't be a problem, since they have Ferdinand. Since Hirschur knows how Ferdinand ticks, she suggests to Rozemyne to let Ferdinand have a look at the magic circles in exchange for the materials.
Wow... When she puts it like that, it all makes sense. Especially the part about bargaining to make him bend to my will.
    • Hirschur and the Ehrenfest students take a lunch break. Having never eaten the food in the dormitory ever since the taste improved three years ago, Hirschur finds another reason to move back to the Ehrenfest dormitory. Rozemyne is more surprised that Hirschur states something that should be expected of the dorm supervisor to be so important.
    • The circles on the magic tools are not just on the surface level, which frustrates Hirschur, who can't transcribe them completely. She murmurs how she would only learn the rest if she dissected Schwartz and Weiss, which causes every girl in the room to start starring daggers at her. Seeing their reaction, Hirschur frowns in annoyance and backs off.
Something tells me Professor Hirschur wouldn't actually survive living here in the dorm...
  • The Battle for Schwartz and Weiss:
    • Rozemyne warns her escort that they must only protect the magic tools they were entrusted with. Angelica and Traugott, who are eager to fight, ask for permission to retaliate if they are attacked, but Rozemyne forbids them from leaving their formation. If they do not obey, they will be marked as failures of guard knights, and Bonifatius will judge them accordingly. Hearing this, both shrink in fear.
    • Lestilaut of Dunkelfelger states his reasons for confronting Rozemyne and her entourage: They took the magic tools that belong to the royal family and brought them to their dorm. Since even their supervisor Hirschur went to the dorm and abandoned her lecture, they had serious concerns that Schwartz and Weiss were at risk of getting dissected or destroyed.
Curse you, Professor Hirschur! I can't believe she skipped her afternoon classes for this. That must be part of the reason why Lestilaut is so mad...
    • Anastasius, who acts as arbitrator between Dunkelfelger and Ehrenfest, commands Lestilaut and Rozemyne to call their respective dorm supervisors. Rauffen immediately comes, but Hirschur apparently is too busy with her research to show up. Rozemyne wishes they got a better supervisor, which earns her a reprimand from Anastasius who tells her that the only reason they can't change supervisors is because Ehrenfest has no one better that they wish to send.
    • Anastasius asks whether Rozemyne knows a way to convince Hirschur to come. Rozemyne then summons an ordonnanz and tells Hirschur that if she does not come immediately, Schwartz and Weiss will be taken away. Just as Rozemyne expected, Hirschur appears not too long after.
    • Rauffen suggests to settle the quarrel with a ditter match and Anastasius gives his consent. Hirschur grabs Rozemyne's shoulders and frantically tells her not to lose.
The fact she had actually started to talk about her "precious research subjects" indicated that she was maybe a bit too honest for a noble. There was no doubt in my mind that the only things she cared about here were their magic circles.
  • The treasure-stealing ditter battle between Ehrenfest and Dunkelfelger:
    • While Rauffen is leading the students to the ditter stadium, he starts a speech about how excited he is to see people playing treasure-stealing ditter again. Rozemyne notices that he probably doesn't care about the magic tools that are at stake, he just wants to see how Ferdinand's disciple fares in ditter.
    • Rauffen already wants the promise of a rematch if they beat Dunkelfelger. Feeling that this would be just a pain in the neck, Rozemyne wonders whether they should just lose on purpose, which gets her a heated reprimand from Hirschur who definitely doesn't want to lose access to Schwartz and Weiss.
    • Hearing that it's crucial to outwit the opponent and that any kinds of magic tools are allowed, Rozemyne has a hunch that a certain High Priest hid all kinds of magic tools all over himself.
    • Rozemyne declares that she will play, too, despite being a first-year, who hasn't even taken the knight course. Rauffen admires Rozemyne's determination and forces Lestilaut to participate, too. Lestilaut is clearly not happy about this.
    • After having heard the rules, Rozemyne reveals her plan to her apprentice knights: She wants to outwit Dunkelfelger by exploiting loopholes in the rules and use surprise attacks. This visibly throws off everyone, who think it's cowardly, but Rozemyne retorts that if they don't rely on trickery and pragmatism, they will never become as cold and calculating as Ferdinand. Cornelius laughs and notes that Rozemyne must have been more influenced by Ferdinand than anyone else, and all surrounding apprentice knights nod in agreement. Rozemyne was not aware of this.
Wait, what...? Am I that evil now?
    • Rozemyne asks if it's possible to attack as soon as the other side brings back their feybeast, considering they would be a bit tired after capturing their feybeast. Judithe and Leonore are confused, as they didn't notice the blind spot that Rozemyne intends to abuse. According to Eckhart's notes about ditter, doing so is perfectly normal.
Rozemyne: Well, could one not theoretically attack the knights as they're bringing [their feybeast] back?
Judithe: Lady Rozemyne, would that not end the match before the competition has even begun?!
Rozemyne: Judithe, what in the world are you saying? You told me it had already begun barely even a moment ago.
Leonore: (blinks in surprise) You are quite right, Lady Rozemyne. That was quite the blind spot.
    • Rozemyne tells Leonore and Judithe to stay with her and observe the battle. After having watched Dunkelfelger's defenses, they are supposed to look at Ehrenfest's defense and compare them. Both start to panic after seeing how poorly coordinated Ehrenfest's knights, except the guard knights of the archducal family that were trained by Bonifatius (7 out of 23), are. Unfortunately, the other knights can't hear Leonore and Judithe, who frustratingly start trying to give instructions.
Judithe: Ah, no! Don't send that many people after a single knight!
Leonore: That is not where their primary fighters are! Go back to Cornelius!
Judithe: Aah! Traugott! Where are you going?!
    • Rozemyne pulls out a ruelle feystone that was filled with her mana and pours a few drops of Ferdinand's disgusting rejuvenation potion on it. Judithe shoots it at Dunkelfelger's feybeast, which prompty eats the stone and grows into a giant and immediately starts going on a rampage to attack Dunkelfelger's knights, which catches both Dunkelfelger and Judithe off guard. Once again, Rozemyne is impressed about Ferdinand's potions.
Rozemyne: Still, Ferdinand never fails to impress. To think his ultra-nasty potion would taste and smell so bad that even a feybeast would be left floundering.
    • Rozemyne uses this moment to let her knights recover. She gives Angelica and Cornelius Ferdinand's potions to drink. After drinking them, they immediately react with revulsion.
Cornelius: (with tears in his eyes) Just what were those?!
Rozemyne: Rejuvenation potions, with an improved flavor that Ferdinand generously worked very hard on.
Cornelius: What do you mean, 'improved flavor'? That was vile!
Rozemyne: You will understand just how kind Ferdinand truly is if you try the original, but do you have what it takes to attempt that? (holds a vial of the ultra-nasty potion) How courageous are you feeling today?
      (Cornelius quickly shakes his head.)
    • Rozemyne instructs Cornelius and Angelica how to attack next. Traugott wants to go, too, but Rozemyne forbids it.
      Traugott: I will go too!
      Rozemyne: No. You stay, Traugott.
Traugott: But why?! Are you saying I'm weaker than them?!
Rozemyne: (That certainly is part of the reason...)
    • Angelica is tasked to protect Ehrenfest's territory when Cornelius attacks. Stenluke has to tell her how to position herself.
  • After the ditter match:
    • Anastasius, who had to attend classes, returns and asks who won. Rauffen excitedly starts to describe what happened, but Anastasius interrupts him, as it's getting late and he doesn't have the time to listen to Rauffen's lengthy retelling.
    • Anastasius asks Rozemyne to come to his room on the next day to discuss things with her and Solange. Everyone then goes back to their dormitories. Seeing Hirschur fly back on her wingless shumil highbeast throws Anastasius off, though.
    • Back in the dormitory, Wilfried, who was worried to death, asks what happened. Rozemyne recapitulates what happened after they left the dorm.
Wilfried: A summons from the prince...? Let me get this straight—you measured Schwartz and Weiss, fought back an ambush, played a game of ditter, and now received a summons from a prince, all on the same day?! How am I going to report this much news to Father?!
  • The prince's summons:
    • Inside his room, Anastasius asks Solange and Rozemyne how Rozemyne became the master of the library's magic tools. Their explanation that she prayed to Mestionora and shot out blessings that reached Schwartz and Weiss visibly confuses him, as he finds it incomprehensible. After several attempts to ask for an elaboration, he just gives up trying to understand it.
    • Anastasius reacts with frustration when Rozemyne tells him that Hirschur abandoned her afternoon classes to study Schwartz and Weiss at the Ehrenfest dormitory. Rozemyne isn't so sure anymore whether the Ehrenfest students are the ones who have to suffer the most because of Hirschur's antics.
    • Having decided that Rozemyne remains the magic tools' master until she graduates, Anastasius dismisses Solange, but asks Rozemyne to stay. As soon as Solange is gone, his princely visage disappears and Rozemyne can tell he wants to talk about Eglantine. Rozemyne really doesn't want to, though, since one mistake could end up killing her.
And yes, this is definitely going to be about Lady Eglantine. Just let me go already...
    • Anastasius embarrassingly and hesitantly asks Rozemyne to find out Eglantine's intentions. Rozemyne thinks he must have put a lot of effort in his words. She doesn't get what he wants from her, though, which is why she asks him to elaborate, since she is lacking in her social training. He cradles his head in agony for having to explain what he means.
    • Anastasius wants to know who Eglantine plans to have as her escort during the graduation ceremony. Rozemyne suggests to request this of someone who is more socially adept. He has already tried that, but has never gotten a clear answer from Eglantine, which is why he puts his hopes in Rozemyne, who immediately hit it off with Eglantine.
Rozemyne: Perhaps you should makes this request of someone more socially adept. (Then you wouldn't have needed to embarrass us both.)
    • Ultimately, Rozemyne accepts Anastasius' request... But she really doesn't want to.
It's not like I could turn down a request from a prince anyway. Ugh... This might end up being a real pain in the neck.
  • Rihyarda's Wrath:
    • Rozemyne's every day life after finishing her classes is pure bliss. She gets to read, Philine desperately transcribes books, and Cornelius and Leonore spend time together studying feybeasts, which to Rozemyne looks almost like a date.
Yes! Yesss! Bonding like this is what I want to see!
    • Rihyarda is heard shouting in the hall at Traugott. Brunhilde and Rozemyne however have no idea why, so Rozemyne asks Cornelius to investigate. He clearly does not want to.
Cornelius: (points up at the ceiling) You wish for me to interrupt when she is shouting that sharply, Lady Rozemyne?
    • Angelica appears and wants to be assigned guard duty to avoid studying. To motivate her, Rozemyne offers to Angelica her newly developed fourth mana compression step, who instantly gets motivated. Rozemyne describes her excitement like a woman who is deeply in love... with her manablade.
Sweet, sweet Angelica... If only you had a few more brain cells...
    • Cornelius sounds dissatisfied that Rozemyne apparently is only going to teach Angelica her new fourth step. She chuckles and tells Cornelius that she doesn't expect Angelica to succeed before Rozemyne will have to return to Ehrenfest. Cornelius just shakes his head and is entirely convinced Angelica will succeed. Rozemyne then promises the new mana compression method to all her retainers if they perform well.
Cornelius: Look at that expression. Do you really expect her not to succeed when she has the same sparkle in her eyes as you did when the library was on the line? The two of you are exactly alike when it comes to charging blindly ahead to accomplish your goals.
    • Rozemyne is shocked when she hears Rihyarda requesting to dismiss Traugott. When she asks for the reason, Rihyarda politely and sharply tells Rozemyne that she should already know why and advises her to pay more attention to her retainers. Rozemyne immediately sits straight and promises to do so.
    • When Traugott tries to assure Rozemyne that he intends to serve her wholeheartedly, Hartmut butts in and remarks that Traugott once told him he intended to quit as soon as he learned the mana compression method. Traugott reacts with shock that Hartmut would reveal a private conversation they had and Hartmut basically just calls him stupid, as no secret is safe without a magic contract. The situation itself isn't funny, but the fact that Traugott blabbed his intention out to Hartmut, the biggest Rozemyne Fanboy ever, is simply hilarious and shows what a Horrible Judge of Character he is.
  • Traugott's Thoughts:
    • Rozemyne uses the sound-blocking magic tool to talk to Traugott privately. When she asks him why he wants to learn her mana compression method, he snarls at her with an annoyed reply, which angers all of Rozemyne's retainers around her.
Rozemyne: (sighs) Traugott, if you cannot even keep a straight face, Rihyarda will tear you to shreds no matter what I say.
    • Rozemyne must hear Traugott's opinion before making an informed decision, as she was taught by Ferdinand, but realizes she really doesn't care enough about him.
    • When Traugott reveals to Rozemyne that he doesn't want to serve anyone and become knight commander like Bonifatius, she tries to inform him that this isn't possible (because unlike Bonifatius, Traugott is just an archnoble and not an archduke candidate). Before she can elaborate, he interrupts her, bringing up the fact that Bonifatius once said Traugott has talent, making him believe he is stronger than Cornelius. Rozemyne quickly guesses it was meant to be a motivational compliment and just gets tired of the whole conversation.
Bleeeh... I just want to end this conversation so I can go read the books I borrowed.
    • Just as Rozemyne is about to sympathize with Traugott, who wanted his father's and grandfather's approval, he destroys any chances of staying Rozemyne's retainer by denigrating Damuel, Rozemyne's favorite knight. With every new sentence, he is just digging his own figurative grave further.
Traugott: Even a weak layknight like Damuel got decently strong with your mana compression, Lady Rozemyne. I would blow him out of the water.
Rozemyne: (Um, excuse me...?) Damuel made so much progress due to his own efforts. You have an advantage in that you are still an archnoble in your growing period, but there are few who have the determination to work as hard as he did.
Traugott: Pff. A laynoble can only do so much before they reach their limits. They are not even worth talking about.
Rozemyne: (Oh reaaally now? ...Okay. Getting him to quit is the best outcome here.)
    • Rozemyne decides to make Traugott quit voluntarily. She offers him her mana compression method if he immediately signs his resignation and announces it for all of Rozemyne's retainers to hear, which he happily does and then leaves the room. While Rihyarda in particular is furious, Rozemyne explains what Traugott has just done: his future is destroyed, and when he comes to realize this, he won't be able to retaliate, because at that point he will have signed a magic contract that forbids him from doing so. She baited him with the mana compression method and he just took it.
    • Rihyarda is still not happy about Rozemyne's solution. She suggests at least stripping Traugott of his noble rank and send him to the temple. Rozemyne then almost tearfully asks whether Rihyarda is really so mad at Rozemyne, which Rihyarda denies, visibly confused. Rozemyne does not like Rihyarda's suggestion because the temple is her place of respite. If she sent Traugott to the temple, she would have to see his face again and deal with him as a blue priest, for which she has no motivation to do so. When hearing this, Cornelius chuckles.
  • A Tea Party with Eglantine:
    • Angelica is now giving it her all to study. As in the previous years, Cornelius has to teach her, which, in addition to guarding Rozemyne in the library in the morning, is an exhausting job. Concerned, Rozemyne asks how he is doing and Cornelius responds that he would have it easier if Rozemyne didn't go to the library every day. He asks whether she could go less often with a smile, clearly aware that Rozemyne will say no to that.
Cornelius: I suppose I knew you wouldn't be able to show such restraint...
Rozemyne: Restraint, hm...? I recall a distant memory in which I abandoned all restraint.
Cornelius: Don't abandon restraint! Learn to show more, if anything!
    • Cornelius' angered outburst suddenly reminds Rozemyne of Benno, which makes her think of how she needs to talk to Benno about their future plans once she is back in Ehrenfest. Cornelius, who realizes that Rozemyne isn't listening to him, starts squishing her cheeks, which he starts to enjoy. He only lets go once an amused Leonore comments on how close they are.
Cornelius: Don't space out in the middle of a conversation like that. Listen to people when they speak.
      Rozemyne: Pweashe wet gow!
    • Rozemyne then changes the topic and tries to find out whether Cornelius has a girl he likes.
Rozemyne: I see. Both boys and girls rely on their family when they have no escort. Who do you plan to escort, Cornelius?
      Cornelius: Huh?! What're you saying?!
Rozemyne: Do you not yet have one, perhaps? Will one more year be enough time for you to find someone? I am told you are quite popular with the girls, so if necessary, I can ask one of them for you.
Cornelius: It is nothing for you to worry about, Lady Rozemyne! I will ask her myself.
    • During Rozemyne's tea party with Eglantine, the latter mentions that Anastasius told her about Rozemyne's ditter game against Dunkelfelger. Apparently, Anastasius is using Rozemyne as a topic for smalltalk.
    • When Eglantine commends Rozemyne for her surprising victory, Rozemyne tries to downplay it. Eglantine notes that Rauffen was full of praise and is looking forward to the rematch.
Okaaay... Note to self: avoid Professor Rauffen at all costs.
    • The topic switches to whirling and Eglantine notes how beautiful Rozemyne's whirling is, and Rozemyne reciprocates the praise, saying that she used Eglantine's dance as inspiration (which again totally sounds like flirting). Eglantine gets shy and repeats her gratefulness that Rozemyne was not born a man, else she would have truly fallen for Rozemyne already. Rozemyne internally ponders whether she should pass this info to Anastasius, as he might get mad at her again out of jealousy.
  • Reporting to the Prince:
    • After Eglantine's tea party, Rozemyne neglects to contact Anastasius again to tell him what she learned. Instead, she spends the next three day in the library reading. So while she is peacefully reading in the library, someone starts calling her out in the library, which she ignores.
      Anastasius: Hey!
Rozemyne: (Why couldn't people learn to be quiet in the library?)
Anastasius: Listen to me, tiny Ehrenfest girl.
Lieseleta: (slams Rozemyne's book shut) Lady Rozemyne! Prince Anastasius is here!
    • Thinking that Anastasius would like to read in the library, she begins to have a better opinion of him and her smile becomes more genuine, only to take that back when he reveals that he has business with her.
    • When Anastasius asks why Rozemyne hasn't sent a letter requesting a meeting with him, Rozemyne needs to come up with an excuse. She then explains that she promised in the previous volume to never approach Anastasius on her own ever again. Anastasius isn't buying it though. Just hearing that Rozemyne didn't report back to Anastasius makes her retainers pale.
Anastasius: Am I to pretend you were not so absorbed in your reading a moment ago that you didn't even notice my calls?
    • Rozemyne again tries to postpone her meeting with Anastasius, but he ignores her excuses and her retainers urge Rozemyne to go with him. She is then dragged out of the library, which causes more attention than Rozemyne wanted to prevent. Internally, she curses her own stupidity.
    • On their way to Anastasius' residence, he suddenly stops, asking why Rozemyne is so slow. She is out of breath again and about to collapse. She didn't do as Ferdinand instructed and neglected to work on her stamina. She imagines Ferdinand's reaction when he learns of this... and thinks it doesn't really matter much.
Well, whatever. There's already a hundred things he's going to be mad at me about. What's one more on the pile?
    • Rihyarda decides to carry Rozemyne, which baffles Anastasius. After a short explanation, he gives his permission. When his head attendant sees Rozemyne, though, the attendant gives the prince a reproachful glance.
    • After Anastasius clears the room, he starts questioning Rozemyne. As it turns out, he completely misunderstood Eglantine's wishes and that she misunderstands him, too. When he tries to explain this to Rozemyne, she interrupts him and quickly tells him that he should be more direct.
Naturally, I elected not to conclude my advice with "Considering how little you understand each other, perhaps it would be best for Lady Eglantine's future if you simply never spoke to her again?" and instead took a more diplomatic approach.
    • After having learned Eglantine's wish for peace and leaving her out of politics, Anastasius has not given up on her yet. Rozemyne wants to give him more advice, but before that asks for permission, as she will be very direct and may come off as rude. After getting permission, she tells him that his dedication whirl is not good enough and pales in comparison to Eglantine's dance. She also is willing to gift him the love song he requested and gives him advice on how to praise Eglantine. While frustrated that someone would ever dare to talk to him like that, Anastasius accepts Rozemyne's advice and in return tells her that she should hide her emotions better and not give information away so freely.
    • Before Rozemyne can excuse herself, she collapses. After she wakes up, she learns that Anastasius and his retainers (and her new retainers) started panicking after she collapsed. He sent an apology letter to Rozemyne, which she guesses Anastasius wrote after being scolded by Eglantine.
  • An Order to Return to Ehrenfest:
    • After four days, Rozemyne has recovered from her fever. Before she can go to the library, she is informed by Wilfried that she received an order to return to Ehrenfest. Her guardians want her back to interrogate her and stop her from causing more problems at the Academy. Rozemyne is devastated that she is robbed of her precious reading time.
    • Angelica is also devastated because Rozemyne immediately returning to Ehrenfest means she cannot finish her exams in time to learn Rozemyne's new step of her mana compression method. They both hug each other with tears in their eyes, begging Wilfried to give them more time. Angelica would lose all motivation if Rozemyne goes back. Her fellow apprentice knights ask Wilfried to relent. Else, Angelica might drop out and bring shame to Ehrenfest.
Wilfried: Angelica, are your grades so bad that you might not even graduate?
Angelica: Yes! All of my written class grades are just barely passes!
Rozemyne: (That's not something to be proud of, Angelica...)
    • Rozemyne comes up with the excuse that she still needs to deliver a song to Anastasius, give Schwartz and Weiss mana, and thank Eglantine for her concern. Rihyarda agrees and Cornelius adds in that they will forcibly take Rozemyne's book away and drag her to the teleportation circle once Angelica finishes her tests. Rozemyne finds this a bit harsh, but Wilfried gives in and asks Sylvester for more time.
    • Rozemyne learns that Wilfried has sent daily reports about the messes Rozemyne made. From her point of view, it was his fault that she was ordered back.
      Curse you, Wilfried!
    • Rozemyne writes a letter in which she asks about his opinion of the song she composed with Rosina, along with a request to inform her about Eglantine's favorite flower and colors, so that she may make a hairpin that he can gift Eglantine. Only one day later, an ordonnanz from Anastasius arrives, where he gives her the information that she wanted along with endless praise about Eglantine that Rozemyne doesn't even bother telling the reader, as she quickly gets fed up with it.
    • Angelica barely passes her final written exam. Despite the professor's recommendation to retake the test for a better grade, she tearfully begs them to let her go.
    • Cornelius, Angelica, and Leonore, who have all finished their classes, will go with Rozemyne. Judithe is very upset about it, as she thinks she is left out.
    • At the teleportation circle, one of the guards gives Rozemyne three boards that an annoyed Sylvester sent on this day alone. They all say: "What's taking so long?"
    • Back in Ehrenfest, Rozemyne is greeted by Bonifatius who proudly presents to her a Damuel who is covered in cuts and bruises. Damuel immediately expresses his heartfelt happiness for Rozemyne's return.
    • Sylvester explains why he wanted Rozemyne to return. After years of blank reports from Hirschur, he was bombarded with real updates and neverending questions. Add to that the ridiculous and confusing reports Wilfried sent almost every day and he wanted the person responsible for the reports to come back and explain as son as possible. Rozemyne really doesn't see the point of Wilfried's regular reports though, if they confused him so much.
Rozemyne: Perhaps you should have summoned Wilfried to discuss improving his writing skills, rather than summoning me.
Sylvester: It's not his writing that's baffling! It's what you've been doing! 'Rozemyne became the master of royalty-owned magic tools when she went to get registered in the library.' It makes no sense at all. You're coming to my office. Explain everything at once.
Rozemyne: (Mm... No, that really does seem like a Wilfried problem to me.)
    • Ferdinand then appears, who smiles at Rozemyne coldly. He is very displeased with her. Cue their Snark-to-Snark Combat.
Ferdinand: Welcome back, Rozemyne. You certainly took your time.
Rozemyne: I'm not so sure about that, Ferdinand. There is still much time before the Dedication Ritual, so this return is quite speedy by my measure.
Ferdinand: I believe I told you to finish your exams as quickly as possible so that you may return before causing any problems.
Rozemyne: Did you now? I remember being forbidden from the library before finishing all my classes, but I cannot recall this order to return immediately.
    • As they keep staring each other down with their fake smiles, Ferdinand then demands to know how Rozemyne ended up participating in a tea party with Anastasius and Eglantine. Rozemyne might drag Ehrenfest into the second prince's faction, which she surely was aware of.
Eep! I'm sorry! I just thought the prince was super annoying! My focus was entirely on getting back to the library to read!
  • Interrogation:
    • Rozemyne is kidnapped to Sylvester's office. He wants the room cleared. Seeing Rozemyne's very angry guardians, Rihyarda indirectly asks to stay with Rozemyne, only to be refused. Rozemyne does not like this at all.
Nooo! Don't leave me here to die!
    • Sylvester, Ferdinand, and Karstedt would like a detailed report about how she and Prince Anastasius became so close (Rozemyne disagrees that they are close, quite the opposite), as according to what they know, she only could have met him during the dedication whirl class. Rozemyne recalls her first meeting with Anastasius when she and Wilfried greeted him at the fellowship gathering, and after reiterating how he complained about her and her response, Sylvester starts groaning in frustration and rubs his temples.
Sylvester: Nobody told me anything about that, Rozemyne. Did you really pick a fight with royalty?
Rozemyne: Hm...? I just got a little annoyed, since he kept complaining. I didn't pick a fight or anything like that.
Ferdinand: What you said contained more irony and sarcasm than anything I have ever heard you say before. It hurts my head to think you spoke like that to a prince.
Karstedt: The prince must have been outright stunned for someone to have spoken to him like that during their very first meeting.
    • Rozemyne begins to see why Anastasius was so hostile to her during dedication whirl class. She then reports what happened during class and how she wanted to avoid him. Sylvester again starts rubbing his head and starts calling Rozemyne out for her lack of skill to phrase things more diplomatically.
Sylvester: I'm starting to sympathize with the prince here. He had no idea what a disaster he was walking into. You must be the most bizarre person he's ever met in his life, Rozemyne.
Rozemyne: (I don't want to hear that from you, Sylvester. You big weirdo.)
    • While talking about the tea party organized by the music professors, Rozemyne mentions how she heard how Sylvester wooed Florencia in the Academy. Sylvester immediately tries to tell her to forget what she heard.
    • While giving a pleased Ferdinand a bunch of magic tools that Hirschur wants repaired, she casually asks him if he could help arrange the song she and Rosina wrote for Anastasius. Ferdinand and Sylvester are not happy that Rozemyne left that detail out. They lecture her that she should first learn someone's intention before deciding to give them something, which Rozemyne says she can't do with Anastasius, since she promised to him that she would never approach him on her own and she intends to keep her promises. That's when she mentions that he came to the library to fetch her.
Sylvester: Rozemyne, do you truly intend to ignore the request of a prince for such a trivial reason?!
Rozemyne: I'm not ignoring him—that's such a misleading way to phrase it. I am merely... waiting for him. I am patiently waiting for Prince Anastasius to contact me. He will come to me when he remembers that he needs it.
Ferdinand: Have you finally lost the last of your wits? The prince would never come to you.
Rozemyne: He'll come. I mean, he came to the library when I was reading once and dragged me away.
      (Beat)
Sylvester: Rozemyne! Do you mean to say he didn't summon you while you were in the library, he actually came to get you in person?! You made him come to you?! That's insane!
    • Rozemyne frustratingly repeats that she promised to not contact Anastasius, at which point Ferdinand tells her to immediately take back that promise. Anastasius dragging Rozemyne away every time he wanted to talk to her would cause even more rumors and she would make so many more enemies that she would never find the time to read again. This immediately makes Rozemyne want to take back her promise as soon as she returns to the Academy.
    • Ferdinand thinks it might be better for Rozemyne to just stay holed up in the library, since she has No Social Skills. Rozemyne is elated.
Someone else agreeing it's a good idea for me to stay in the library? Heck yeah! We should make this a yearly holiday! I never want to forget this moment!
    • Overwhelmed by emotions, Rozemyne wants to give a prayer to Ferdinand.
Rozemyne: Aah, goodness! You're like a god to me right now, Ferdinand! Praise be to—
Ferdinand: I need no prayers. Sit.
Rozemyne: (That's too bad, I guess.)
    • Rozemyne then mentions that she offered a hairpin to Anastasius, which he happily accepted. When Ferdinand asks why she didn't consult her guardians first, she responds that it just came to her mind spontaneously. Frustrated, Ferdinand starts to lecture her while pinching her cheeks.
Ferdinand: Rozemyne, did I not teach you to think before you act? To not immediately do whatever comes to mind? I had thought you learned the importance of maintaining contact and talking things over, but it seems my teachings were not at all sufficient. Or have they simply melted away along with your mana clumps over the past two years?
      Rozemyne: I'm sho showwy!
    • Ferdinand keeps yelling, telling her that she should regularly consult her guardians like Wilfried does. Rozemyne gets a "Eureka!" Moment and after seeing this, her guardians start to Facepalm, realizing that they didn't prepare her well enough for the Royal Academy.
    • Trying to change the topic, Rozemyne wants to contact Benno and Gustav. Since their commodities turn out to be very popular and Anastasius will advertise hairpins by gifting Eglantine (who will have rinsham-washed hair at the graduation ceremony) a hairpin, Rozemyne intends to capitalize on this as much as possible. Sylvester is very upset about Rozemyne's actions and tells her that she thinks too much like a profit-oriented merchant.
  • Returning to the Temple:
    • At dinner with the archducal family, Rozemyne explains how she won against Dunkelfelger. Everyone is rather shocked when they hear about Rozemyne's unorthodox strategy to hide her feybeast inside her highbeast, while feeding Dunkelfelger's feybeast with a feystone to enlarge it, except Ferdinand, who nods approvingly. When Rozemyne brings up how she heard Ferdinand apparently used to use very cunning methods to win in ditter, he agrees to show her documents about ditter strategies later.
    • Rozemyne uses the dinner as an opportunity to mention how bad Ehrenfest's apprentice knights are, and Karstedt promises to see to it. She also mentions how the only ones who showed some skill in coordination were the apprentices that serve the archducal family, making Bonifatius (who personally trained them) proud and promising to take care of the other apprentices as well.
    • After dinner, Ottilie asks Rozemyne how her son Hartmut is doing. She's been trying her best to keep his obsession with Rozemyne in check and recommends to Rozemyne to not hesitate in stopping him if he goes too far. Rozemyne avoids telling Hartmut's mother that he has gone on to spread Rozemyne's legend as a saint and only talks about the rest of his work.
    • While thinking about Hartmut's belief in Rozemyne's sainthood, Rozemyne wonders why he apparently doesn't see how she really is, even after having spent several weeks with her already.
    • On the next day, after writing letters, Ottilie suggests to read the two romantic knight story collections Elvira has written, printed, and left in the castle for Rozemyne to read. With the books was a warning to never take the books out of her room in the castle (since Ferdinand needs special permission to enter the room). Ottilie and Rozemyne are very impressed by Elvira's writing skills, though she has one thing to complain about:
As a slight criticism, Mother, not every boy in Royal Academy Stories should be modeled after Ferdinand.
    • Before departing to the temple, Rozemyne internally notes how brazen it is for Ferdinand to add more boxes to Lessy than her own luggage.
    • Angelica hasn't graduated yet, but she has special permission to accompany Rozemyne to the temple. Rozemyne preemptively warns Angelica not to mistreat the gray priests and shrine maidens, just because they are commoners. Angelica doesn't really understand. She's too dumb to hate on commoners.
Rozemyne: I merely ask that those in my service refrain from treating the commoners with blatant disgust, if possible.
Angelica: Um, disgust? Blatant...? I think I get it!
      Rozemyne: (She totally doesn't!)
    • Angelica greets Rozemyne's temple attendants in a rather unusual way. Fran hesitates, not knowing how to respond. It's only after he sees Damuel's resigned reaction that he realizes Angelica didn't exactly act like a noble.
  • Ferdinand and Hirschur's Gifts:
    • Rozemyne sends out Zahm to request a meeting with Ferdinand, but Ferdinand has been holed up in his workshop since her return, not even going out to eat. Since Rozemyne is the only one with the authority to get him out of there, Rozemyne is asked to go to Ferdinand's room. She finds Eckhart inside doing paperwork, who is excited to see her. He asks her to enter Ferdinand's hidden room, but since she can't, she could at least try talking to Ferdinand and convince him to come out.
    • Ferdinand flat-out refuses to come out and tells her not to worry. Rozemyne can sympathize with his obsessive focus on his hobby, since she used to do the same back in her Urano days. She is satisfied with this, but Eckhart and Ferdinand's other servants kneel in front of her, asking her to find a way. Seeing Eckhart's desperation, Rozemyne starts to reconsider, even though she really doesn't want to earn his ire again.
Rozemyne: Baiting him out is a simple matter, but it would result in him yelling at me, which is hardly ideal. I just emerged from a harsh scolding and would not like to receive another any time soon... (''Either way, Ferdinand is going to be really ticked off about having been torn from his work. I don't want to willingly throw myself to the dogs by volunteering information that will make him even angrier.
    • Seeing a chance to convince Rozemyne, Eckhart whispers that she can calm Ferdinand's wrath or even completely distract him if she talks about magic tool research. Rozemyne then speaks to the magic tool again, requesting to eat dinner together with Ferdinand. He again tells her to leave him be, so she brings up her new mana compression step, which makes him go quiet for a moment. As a final push, she mentions that she wants to teach the children of the former Veronica faction the method as well, but before she can even finish her next sentence, Ferdinand bursts out of the door in anger, asking her if she has gone insane.
Rozemyne: You scolded me about not communicating, so here I am, communicating. You are going to listen, aren't you?
Ferdinand: (taps his temple) I suppose I have no choice. Good grief...
Rozemyne: In that case, once sixth bell rings, you can—
Ferdinand: We will eat in my chambers. Do not bother me until then.
Rozemyne: (He's absolutely grasping for as much research time as possible.)
    • Ferdinand's attendants thank Rozemyne and Eckhart expresses how proud he is of his little sister for making Ferdinand leave his workshop. Rozemyne isn't exactly happy to hear this kind of praise. When she returns to Ferdinand's chambers for dinner, she sees a frowning Ferdinand with an unperturbed Eckhart by his side.
Rozemyne: Ferdinand, you are letting your emotions show. That is not proper for a noble.
Ferdinand: I am doing it deliberately, because I am well aware you would not understand a fraction of my displeasure otherwise. Consider my honesty here special treatment for you in particular.
    • At dinner, Rozemyne brings up the magic tools Hirschur sent to Ferdinand. They were projectors. Hirschur doesn't like teaching (takes time away from her research), and it frustrated her even more that she had to keep repeating the steps in her brewing class, which always left her in a foul mood, so Ferdinand invented a magic tool.
    • While discussing the new mana compression step, Rozemyne tries to visualize her compression again, only to be interrupted by Fran, who asks Rozemyne and Ferdinand to finish this talk after dinner. Rozemyne then sees that her and Ferdinand's guard knights are currently trying the new compression step.
    • The next topic is Schwartz and Weiss' magic circles. While talking about the charms that Ferdinand gave Rozemyne, he asks how her muscles and stamina are doing. Rozemyne doesn't want to admit she neglected her physical exercises to read in the library instead, so she makes use of the info Eckhart gave her and successfully changes the topic quickly.
    • Learning that he gets the chance to study Schwartz and Weiss and can contribute to the improvement of their clothes, Ferdinand and Rozemyne are again interrupted by Fran.
Fran: Excuse me, but you have both stopped eating again. The orphanage will never receive dinner at this rate.
      Rozemyne: (Oops. Sorry.)
    • After dinner, Eckhart and Rozemyne together stop Ferdinand from entering his workshop again. She gives him the choice to either leave his workshop when called for or allowing her to register her mana so that she may enter the workshop whenever she wants.
Ferdinand: Good grief... I would rather leave when summoned than allow you to stroll in and out as you please. I must say, you are beginning to resemble Rihyarda with your forcefulness.
Rozemyne: (rests her hands on her hips like Rihyarda) I was dragged out of the library every day at the Royal Academy. Now it is your turn to know the pain I endured.
Ferdinand: Rozemyne, do not give Rihyarda so much trouble.
Rozemyne: I will repeat the same warning to you: do not give your attendants so much trouble.
(Damuel tries to contain his laughter)
  • The Summoned Merchants:
    • The representatives of the Gilberta Company, Plantin Company, and the Merchant's Guild are invited to the temple. Rozemyne tells them how she has started to advertise Ehrenfest's products and that they will soon do business with other duchies, so they need to be prepared. She wanted to spread printing as quickly as possible, but Benno is against it. Despite Benno's diplomatic words and polite smile, she can just hear him scream "Hold your friggin' horses! You've gotta lay the groundwork first!" internally.
    • Hearing that Rozemyne had "only" tea parties with a student from Klassenberg, Sovereign professors, and the second prince, Gustav almost begins to reel in disbelief and shock, in sharp contrast to Benno and Otto, who are unperturbed.
    • Rozemyne needs a new name for the plant paper, as it gives away the material used for it. She suggests 'Lutz paper', as he was the first one who made it, but Lutz, who clearly doesn't want his name spreading like that, instantly counters by suggesting "Myne paper" in return.
'Myne paper'? No thanks. Absolutely not. My name doesn't need to be anywhere near it.
    • Hearing how Tuuli's reputation has risen considerably over the last years makes her really happy.
Rozemyne: (I can imagine Tuuli will become a living legend if she ends up entrusted with the prince's order. Wow! Wow! That's my big sister for you!) (nods) As always, I am impressed with your work.
    • Earlier, Gustav wanted to distribute some of the work Rozemyne wants to give to the Plantin Company to other companies, which she refuses. She later entrusts Gustav with the task to coordinate with the city guards and the guilds for inns and eateries when merchants from other duchies come visit. Shocked, Gustav is left speechless, while Benno can barely contain his laughter and basically tells Gustav to Be Careful What You Wish For.
Benno: (smirks) Those merchants who wanted connections with Lady Rozemyne will certainly be pleased now.
    • Rozemyne informs the merchants that they will soon be called to the castle to advise Aub Ehrenfest with which duchies they should work with. Gustav realizing that Rozemyne must have arranged this is genuinely grateful to her, as before the nobles never discussed anything with the commoners. They just gave orders. Rozemyne internally thinks it's no wonder Ehrenfest has such a weak influence, when their leaders are so bad at communication and ignore the valuable information their commoners can provide. Though Gustav seems to have great respect for Sylvester. Rozemyne decides to not correct him.
Gustav: That said, even during the meeting at the Italian restaurant, Aub Ehrenfest came without his scholars and willingly listened to our perspective directly. Perhaps our lives are going to be a little easier, at least until his successor comes to power.
Rozemyne: (When you put it like that, Sylvester seems like an outstanding leader who carefully listens to those beneath him, instead of a loose cannon who just wanted to visit the lower city and try new food.)
  • In the epilogue, Lutz is brought into Benno's office, where Benno explains that Rozemyne is also struggling with her emotions and that nullifying the magic contracts they made with her is a good thing business-wise. After they are finished with their discussion, Mark enters with some tea he just made. Benno and Lutz are now eager to go back to work. However, Mark wants them to not let the tea he just made go to waste while smiling at them intimidatingly. Benno and Lutz quickly pick up the teacups.
  • Anastasius' side story:
    • Anastasius is meeting Eglantine for tea. He in detail describes her looks and every move of hers. He justifies it internally by claiming it's the duty of royalty to observe others to ensure they are not getting poisoned.
    • At some point, Eglantine breaks the silence and asks Anastasius what he wanted to discuss with her. He doesn't know what to say, so he brings up Eglantine's tea party with Rozemyne. Seeing Eglantine's tense reaction, he wonders what Rozemyne kept secret from him.
They best not have amused themselves by speaking ill of me.
Rozemyne's evil, poisonous smile flashed through my mind. I envisioned myself dropping a fist on her skull in an attempt to calm down, then composed myself with a light cough.
    • While discussing Ehrenfest's rise, Eglantine notes that it is thanks to Rozemyne, which she must have already started before even attending the Academy despite being asleep for two years. Anastasius quickly tries to change the topic to Wilfried, as he can't stand Eglantine praising Rozemyne like that.
    • After Anastasius conveys his true feelings and wish to be with Eglantine, Eglantine is surprised that he is so direct to her. Anastasius explains that it was Rozemyne who told him that Poor Communication Kills and that he should begin anew with Eglantine. Seeing as her advice clearly works, he thinks about heeding her other advice as well. This lightens the mood again.
Eglantine: You mean to say Lady Rozemyne said even more to you...? I'm not sure if my heart can take much more...
Anastasius: It was all unbelievably rude advice that no other would ever dare speak to royalty. Would you care to hear it?
      Eglantine: Absolutely.
    • After Anastasius lists all the things Anastasius should improve on, Eglantine's shocked into silence with a frozen smile. She can't believe an archduke candidate from a middle-ranked duchy like Ehrenfest would ever talk to a royal like that.
    • When Eglantine hears that Anastasius summoned her while she was in poor health and fainted during their conversation, Eglantine urgently asks Anastasius to express his sympathies to Rozemyne. Anastasius is confused, he thinks he should receive a request from Rozemyne for forgiveness. Eglantine mentions that, considering Anastasius still hasn't received the request, it must mean Rozemyne still hasn't recovered and that Aub Ehrenfest must be panicking. Anastasius suddenly starts sympathizing with Aub Ehrenfest, which is especially funny, when a few chapters earlier Sylvester started sympathizing with Anastasius, all due to Rozemyne.
  • Leonore's side story:
    • While discussing Traugott's failure as a retainer with Cornelius, Ottilie asks how Hartmut is doing, as she fears he will displease Rozemyne, too, though in a completely different way.
Cornelius and I reflexively exchanged looks. As Leisegang nobles, we too were worried about Hartmut's nonsense.
    • Ottilie and Cornelius then ask Leonore to keep an eye on Hartmut when she returns to the Academy, fearing what he might do while Rozemyne isn't in the Academy.
    • Back in the Academy, Leonore discusses with Brunhilde and Hartmut the invitation for a tea party from Lady Hannelore of Dunkelfelger, Lestilaut's little sister. She probably addressed the invitation to all Ehrenfest archduke candidates, which Brunhilde finds weird, since she is in the same year as Rozemyne. Leonore figures that Rozemyne did not socialize with any other archduke candidates because she was solely focused on finishing her exams to go to the library. This worries Brunhilde and Leonore, as socializing in the Academy was of paramount importance for female archduke candidates.
Brunhilde: Lady Rozemyne was simply unwell this term. Next year, she will surely—
Leonore: Brunhilde, denying reality will change nothing. There is no future in which Lady Rozemyne does not attempt to hide away in the library next year as well. It is better to lose hope now than to cling to it for much longer than is reasonable.
    • Back in Ehrenfest, Cornelius requested from Leonore to prepare for the Interduchy Tournament and work on improving the apprentice knights, so she turns into Drill Sergeant Nasty and decides to make them go through training to gauge their stamina and mana.
Traugott: Leonore, how long are you going to make us run?!
Leonore: Did I not say until you run out of stamina? You still seem to have some left in you, Traugott. Your stamina is splendid.
Alexis: Leonore, I can't take much more! My mana is drying up!
Leonore: Alexis, you have enough mana for two more shots, no? Your accuracy always plummets when you are mana-deprived, and this is something I want you to work on. (Dare I say it, but I have gathered some excellent information here.)
    • While the apprentices are lying on the floor completely exhausted, Leonore thinks that they will be fine, though, they just need to wait until the rejuvenation potions start to have an effect. Her only concern is that they might eventually run out of potions.
    • An excited Judithe, who just finished her classes, comes to the training grounds, not knowing what hell is awaiting her.
Judithe: Leonore, I've finally finished all my classes too! Please let me join in the training!
Leonore: Hello there, Judithe. You came at the perfect time.
Rudolf: No, you don't understand! You're still a second-year, aren't you?! Run! RUN WHILE YOU STILL HAVE THE CH—argh!
Leonore: Rudolf, I see you have recovered. Perhaps you should run to the limits of your stamina once again, this time with Judithe observing also?
      Rudolf: A-Actually, ma'am, I-I'm not recovered yet!
Leonore: Then be silent and say no more. Now, Judithe. Shall we begin?
      Judithe: Um... Wh-What...?
    • It is only then that Judithe notices the apprentices, that are scattered on the floor like corpses. Leonore proceeds to exhaust Judithe just like she did with the other apprentices.
Judithe: I should have listened to Lord Rudolf... Why didn't I listen? I can't believe the training in the Royal Academy is so harsh...
Leonore: Oh my. I heard you were training in Kirnberger, but even so, that is some surprising stamina. You have already recovered enough to speak.
Judithe: Not yet! I can't speak at all! I'm so weak! Aah!
    • Leonore explains the next steps of their training. When asked what she will do in the meantime, she says she's going back to the dormitory to get more rejuvenation potions, so they can keep going.
Apprentice Knights: Wait, there's going to be more?!
    • Rauffen appears, who enthusiastically watches Ehrenfest's apprentice knights train. Leonore explains how Rozemyne wanted her knights to lose to Dunkelfelger actually, as some would surely become arrogant, which Rauffen correctly reads as Ehrenfest wanting a rematch. Leonore leaves the preparations to Rauffen, as she will go back to Ehrenfest soon, and Rauffen commends Leonore for her cunning.
Rauffen: You're planning to push everything on me...? You seem like you could be a pretty good tactician yourself one day.
    • Two days later, a day before Leonore departs, Wilfried talks to the Ehrenfest students in the common hall. He announces the request of a ditter rematch against Dunkelfelger. Leonore says it's impossible to win and correctly predicts how Wilfried wouldn't refuse and how the arrogant apprentices would react: They think they have a chance, since they have won before and went through some training, despite Cornelius, Angelica, and Rozemyne not being there this time.
All the knights had done was basic training to learn their limits, but that alone was apparently enough to convince them they were now stronger than Dunkelfelger. A single victory had given them undue confidence, as expected. They needed to experience an utter, crushing defeat.
    • Wilfried orders Leonore to prepare for the match. However, Leonore - who knew from Brunhilde about Wilfried's brazen attitude to order Rozemyne's retainers around and push all work to them - declines, stating that she is going back to Ehrenfest and that this time Wilfried's guard knights should be the ones to take care of the preparations.

    Volume 3
  • Rozemyne is trying to hide from Ferdinand that she hasn't exercised much, and hence has made little-to-no progress in being able to move without any sort of magical assistance. To prepare for a physical, Rozemyne's attendants remove the tools and get worried when she collapses in a chair. Rozemyne needs to switch to enhancement magic just to be able to give them a reassuring wave. Fortunately, she's now good enough to use it on her entire body and give the illusion of being able to move on her own. Then Ferdinand comes into her room and promptly orders her to stop using enhancement magic.
  • Rozemyne lavishly compliments the illustrations of the books Elvira had made for her friends, only for her internal narration to basically say "And by that, I mean those Ferdinand illustrations are way too sparkly".
  • As the Lord of Winter appears while Ferdinand and Rozemyne are in a meeting, Rozemyne decides to tag along to the hunt preparations so she can give everyone Angriff's blessing. One of the consequences of the situation is that Rihyarda is present and is given a few last orders alongside Rozemyne's apprentice knights before Rozemyne departs with them. Right after Rozemyne's apprentice knights acknowledge their orders by calling Ferdinand "Sir" in unison, a certain someone calls him "my boy" in the process of doing the same.
  • After being asked by Charlotte, Rozemyne briefly indulges in a fantasy of what she would do if she became archduchess: make the duchy into a giant printing factory that would be obligated to send a copy of each new book to her personal library.
  • At various points in the volume, Rozemyne reflects on the possibility that Ehrenfest's Hat within the country may very well be "weirdos motivated only by their primary interest rampaging around", all while blatantly failing to realize that she's one of them.
  • Ferdinand offers his help with the Royal Academy students who are delinquent with returning their library books, remarking that if things continue as they are, Rozemyne will start cursing the offenders. Rozemyne protests that she would do no such thing.
Ferdinand: I still clearly recall you proposing we hold a so-called 'bloody carnival' after someone merely made a mess of the book room. It would be wise to settle this matter before the library is stained with the blood of the executed.
  • Sylvester saying he wants to watch the Dedication Whirl recording because it might give them a hint as to how Rozemyne's blessing of Eglantine happened, Ferdinand clearly thinking he just wants to watch it out of childish curiosity, the watching happening anyway and actually providing them with the solution. Long story short, the baffling aspect of the blessing was that Rozemyne seemingly gave it without singing or praying to the gods, but the recording of the Dedication Whirl not having sound meant that Rozemyne was mentally providing a proper soundtrack for it, which was close enough to singing out loud.
  • Ferdinand's response to Hartmut telling him that Rozemyne is his research subject being basically "excellent choice, tell me if you find something interesting".
  • Ferdinand attempts to compliment Rozemyne as her guardian in his own way, which really needs work. His attempt at an Affectionate Gesture to the Head makes her dizzy and he uses his own name when Rozemyne asks him to use the same words of praise as his father.

    Volume 4
  • Charlotte outright stating that she genuinely mistook the bad taste of Ferdinand's mana regeneration potions for an act of hostility towards her the first time she had one. Rozemyne then informs her and Wilfried that they used to taste worse.
  • The score gets settled for which specialized class got the best grades, with the knights winning. The discussion soon moves to which one will win the following year, with a couple people conceding to the fact that the knights may have an extra advantage. The reason? Angelica graduated.
  • When Rozemyne and Wilfried are walking up the stage to have their engagement announced, Rozemyne spots Bonifatius clearly having a Boyfriend-Blocking Dad (or rather grandad) moment and Elvira apparently already writing a romance novel in her head.
  • The discussion about the legal deposit law, which includes a clause requiring a copy of each new book made to be given to Rozemyne, resulting in Elvira, a prolific writer, agreeing that Rozemyne is to obsessed with books for the world's own good.
  • Becoming Rozemyne's betrothed mostly meaning "becoming an extra person she can dump printing industry related work onto" for Wilfried.
  • Hartmut finds out he won't be allowed in the chapel to watch Rozemyne perform ceremonies despite choosing to go to the temple with her in big part for the opportunity to do just that. His immediate response is to ask what he is supposed to do instead. Rozemyne suggests his actual job.
  • Rozemyne gives Ferdinand her first attempt at a romance novel to vet for publication. It turns out to be so lewd by the setting's standards that he literally asks her to burn the manuscript.
  • Rozemyne has her first try at using the waschen spell and summons enough water to fill her hidden room.
  • Rozemyne is performing the baptism ceremony, only for one of the kids, whom Myne just noted weren't any taller than her, to just blurt out "HOLY CRAP, SHE'S SO TINY!"
  • Ferdinand initially refuses to let Rozemyne go gathering in the Noble forest with Bonifatius because he considers the latter is going to be more of a threat to Rozemyne's life than any of the feybeasts. Bonifatius reacts to hearing this by ordonnanz by running off using enhancement magic, presumably to Ferdinand's location. Some time later, Rozemyne gets another ordonnanz from Ferdinand authorizing the gathering session.
  • Rozemyne finally encounters gruns, the feybeast Lessy keeps being mistaken for. They have breath that smells like miso soup, which makes her nostalgic. To everyone else, it's an extremely strong and foul smell.
  • One of the end-of-volume comics is Damuel's perspective on the aftermath of the meeting during which Judithe and Philine established him as an objective to get past. Both girls verbally declare their respective rivalries by randomly telling him they won't lose to him, resulting in him turning to Angelica for an explanation. Angelica's response is to declare that she will lose to him, at least in terms of brainpower.

    Volume 5
  • Rozemyne starts wondering what might make good gifts for her noble retainers and Angelica is quick to ask for more of her mana.
  • The mention of the massive waschen having gotten inside some buildings and Karla having reacted to it by wishing she had opened her window for the occasion.
  • Ferdinand not wanting Sylvester to be part of the next visit to the Italian restaurant because, complications caused by having the archduke himself at the meeting aside, Sylvester has lately been overcome with an unusual impulse to take care of his own work backlog.
  • Ferdinand helps Rozemyne realize that while she rewarded the Othmar and Gilberta companies for their work while she was asleep, she didn't do so for the Plantin Company. Once that is settled, Ferdinand's response makes her realize that he's also wondering where his reward is.
  • Years later, Rozemyne needs to prevent a member of the archducal family from poaching one of the Italian restaurant's chefs again. The member of the archducal family this time around is Ferdinand.
  • Rozemyne and Aurelia aren't supposed to be speaking to each other, so they settle for "Thinking Out Loud" within each other's earshot instead. Retainers on both sides quickly give up on even pretending they are trying to stop them.
  • After seeing her bond with Aurelia, Rozemyne's mothers have her interrogate Aurelia about Ahrensbach. They clearly regret it as soon as Rozemyne opens her mouth.
  • Ferdinand seemingly makes oddly accurate guesses about Rozemyne's plans to sneak away and do her own thing during her commute between the temple and the castle, to the point that Rozemyne wonders if he's reading her mind. Then it turns out that he was stating Sylvester's track record out loud.
  • Before the fellowship gathering where the extremely young royal must greet all the duchies' representatives at the Royal Academy, one of Hildebrand's adult scholars hides under the table so that he can feed the prince lines or information if he stumbles, adding a level of hilarity to the previous chapter from Rozemyne's perspective. The amusement is amplified for Hildebrand since the scholar is a Perpetual Frowner, and has to be reminded to stop glancing down at him before the ceremony.

    Volume 6
  • Rozemyne finds out that Cornelius was asked by someone to have her out of his sight at little as possible. Rozemyne guesses Ferdinand and both her sets of parents, Cornelius says yes to all five. Then Hartmut reveals he got the same instructions from several other adults in Rozemyne's entourage (her temple attendants, Justus, Eckhart, his own mother and Bonifatius).
  • Schtappe transformation class:
    • Rozemyne impresses Rauffen by changing her schtappe into a couple divine instruments. When the shield is being tested, one of Ferdinand's protective charms has a blowback so bad that Rauffen is prevented from being badly hurt only because of his top notch battle reflexes. Then it turns out this was the protective charm's lowest possible blowback. Once the incident is done, all Rozemyne cares about is having secured a passing grade.
    • Wilfried notices that Ferdinand's protective charms may be a problem during Rozemyne's upcoming battle and self-defense classes if the minimal blowback proved difficult to counter for Rauffen and they get Fraularm as a proctor at any point. When Rozemyne points out that removing the charms would require Ferdinand's permission, Wilfried decides he'd rather live with the charms.
  • The gun:
    • Because of Rozemyne's track record in schtappe transformations, Rauffen insists on her giving a demonstration of the mana-based water gun despite her telling him it's not meant to be a weapon. When the demonstration proves underwhelming, he finally asks what it's meant to do and Rozemyne describes it as something meant to surprise people. Rauffen admits that it does, indeed, fulfill that function.
    • A mix of being unsure of why she was able to recreate a water gun, trying to see if she can recreate other items from modern-day Japan and a realization that the water gun might become a good weapon if she can figure out how to tweak it a little results in Rozemyne doing a few tests while in bed. Rihyarda gets her to stop doing it because it's dangerous and leaves the room. Not that much later, Rozemyne thinks of combining the gun with Ferdinand's Rain of Arrows method. The end result destroys her bed's canopy, prompts a worried Rihyarda to rush back into the room and gets her quite the scolding. Hartmut ends up with a new thing to report to the castle as early as breakfast the next day.
  • Rozemyne putting interacting with a royal way more in the back of her mind than she should, yet again.
  • During the ternisbefallen hunt, Rozemyne getting frustrated that the beast is dodging her attacks specifically, getting the idea of changing her schtappe into the cape of the God of Darkness and throwing it down on the beast, then realizing that she can't attack anymore because she just got rid of her weapon.
  • The reports of the ternisbefallen hunt sent by Hartmut in Rozemyne's place, Wilfried and Charlotte being so different from each other that Sylvester initially mistakes them for being about three different events.
  • Cornelius saying that the Ehrenfest apprentice knights are less on guard for another ternisbefallen showing up than those of other duchies because they already have their hands full wrangling Rozemyne.
  • Rozemyne getting worried that Raimund might become a second Ferdinand and Raimund seeing no problem with the idea at all.
  • Fraularm trying to get Hirschur to agree with her on how unbearable it is for a noblewoman to be in an extremely dusty abandoned building and failing because Hirschur lives in a Trash of the Titans.

    Volume 7
  • Rozemyne giving up on the idea of a Pinky Swear with Bonifatius because she doesn't want a broken finger.
  • Rozemyne has her first tea party consisting of just herself and Sylvester. It only lasts so long before she says something that makes him Spit Take. Sylvester's attendant ends up needing to clean up the resulting mess.
  • Rozemyne and Ferdinand having lunch together because both were told by their attendants that the other has been spending way too much time on their favorite hobby. When they turn to their retainers after realizing what they did, both Eckhart and Damuel are putting their hand over their mouth to hide a laugh.
  • This volume makes it clear that Rozemyne picked up one leadership skill from Sylvester: finding "common good" coverups for things that are set up for her own entertainment.
  • Rozemyne gets so distracted by Eglantine's looks that she initially fails to notice that Anastasius is also present.
  • Aub Dunkelfelger's Establishing Character Moment is... challenging someone to ditter, what else?
  • Elvira's very dedicated note-taking about the two new couples revealed to be engaged. Including the part where she wonders how she's going to write Clarissa's knife-to-throat request for an Engagement Challenge into the story based on her and Hartmut.
  • Eckhart and Angelica being on the same page about prioritizing becoming better guards over their future marriage to an extent that makes Rozemyne protest.
  • Rozemyne needing to be told to avoid randomly blessing people for that graduation ceremony.

    Volume 8
  • Ferdinand, in his efforts to avoid the next Interduchy Tournament, is extremely quick to accept Bonifatius' idea of attending instead of him. When the various reasons it would be impractical start being pointed out, his solution is to keep Bonifatius and Rozemyne locked up in the dormitory during the event. In the wake of all six of the members of the archducal family attending the tournament splitting into three teams having been necessary to manage all the visitors Ehrenfest got.
  • Rozemyne being overjoyed that Melchior is technically shorter than her.
  • Upon finding out that Melchior's favorite books are bibles for children, Rozemyne's idea of further reading for him is the High Bishop's Bible. The fact that the previous volume gave her a very good reason to watch who she allows to read it only makes it funnier.
  • Because a slip of the tongue, Rozemyne says she wants Ahrensbach. It takes Hartmut commenting that it's a good idea for her to realize what it sounds like.
  • Angelica making a quite heartfelt statement about cancelling her engagement to Eckhart, only to turn out to be rehearsing a socially acceptable statement for an upcoming formal meeting on the topic.

    Volume 9
  • Rozemyne's retainers fight over who gets to go to the Italian restaurant with her. The fight is partly settled via the fact that most of them aren't adults and can't got to the lower city without permission from Sylvester and/or their guardians anyway. Then just about everyone finds a loophole that will allow them to attend anyway, down to Philine and Roderick remembering that Rozemyne is their guardian. In the end, Rozemyne has to ask the permission of Judithe's parents because she's the only one who found no loophole to abuse.
  • Once at the restaurant, Rozemyne's warning that the lasagna is very hot comes too late for Roderick, who burns his mouth on it. Judithe, having observed this, has a brief giggle at his expense and allows her own first bite to cool... but then rushes her second bite, causing her to likewise reach for her water.
  • The reveal that Gustav was a Shipper with an Agenda for Benno and Karin, showing that he still hasn't learned his lesson about making Benno's marital life his business.
  • Hartmut, in the midst of being jealous of fellow retainers who can still attend the Royal Academy alongside Rozemyne, regrets not having trained as an attendant instead, which would have allowed him to go as Roderick's adult attendant. Since Roderick's native status is low-mednoble, he points out that there would have been a bunch of problems with him being attended by an archnoble.
  • The search for the missing bible causes a few of them:
    • Ferdinand's attempt at using the situation to teach Cornelius something gets ruined because Eckhart forcibly cuts open Brother Egmont's door earlier than he intended.
    • Rozemyne creates Lessy to go to the Dahldolf winter mansion, only to realize she has no idea where it is.
    • Once at the mansion, she claims to have a reason other than being too short to reach the knocker to let Hartmut knock in her place.
  • The saga of everyone but Damuel getting engaged continues, with Ferdinand being in the early stages of Deconfirmed Bachelor. It promptly turns out that he thinks Philine, who has shown interest in him in her point of view chapter, has a crush on Roderick and still has no idea that the secret message from Matthias wasn't a love letter. And that he didn't take the hint when Philine came to him for advice about the person she has feelings for not noticing said feelings. This also goes over Rozemyne's head, as her internal response to the information can be summed up as "Asking Damuel for love advice? Are you out of your mind?".
  • The reveal that Fran first learned Sylvester's name because he started appearing at the temple and getting ordonnanzes from Karstedt asking where he was.

Part 5

    Volume 1
  • When Roderick tries to explain why apprentice attendants wouldn't want to serve Rozemyne, Lieseleta casts a waschen around his head and claims there was dirt around his mouth. This is pretty much the setting's equivalent of a Soap Punishment.
  • Detlinde gives news of Ferdinand, who has clearly been displaying his "prince charming" persona around her. Wilfried is baffled and discreetly asks Rozemyne if Detlinde is really talking about the same person.
  • Judithe and Theodore denying the similarities everyone else sees between them. At the same time, using exactly the same wording.
  • Hirschur telling Rozemyne that the statues of the gods also started moving for Ferdinand's divine protection ritual, but Ferdinand's reaction didn't go beyond pointing out that it explains one of the Royal Academy's mysteries. He then promptly started investigating the other mysteries.
  • Rozemyne feeling like a sport commenter from Earth while trying to prop up Ferdinand to Ahrensbach and taking the idea a step further in her internal narration.
  • Rozemyne needs to dump as much mana as she can, but warns the people who offer her feystones that she risks turning the smaller ones into mana-saturated gold dust. Most students withdraw their smallest feystones, the apprentice scholars excitedly produce more of them.
  • Hirschur's Trash of the Titans getting cleaned up so thoroughly that Raimund mistakes it for another room entirely when he arrives.
  • Brunhilde making the inevitable remark regarding Hartmut and Clarissa: "There are two of them."
  • Rozemyne reacting to a new development by internally commenting that she can already hear Sylvester crying "Hold on! Why is this happening?"

    Volume 2
  • Anastasius gives Rozemyne a royal order to cancel out orders given to her by her guardians. Since the order given to her by the guardians was keeping her away from a bunch of potentially interesting reading material, she responds very enthusiastically for someone who just got That's an Order! pulled on them, to the dismay of her retainers.
  • Rauffen being so focused on the fact that the joint research will entail playing ditter that he keeps forgetting about literally all other steps of the experiment.
  • The extent to which Rozemyne's opinion of Detlinde tanks during the first third of the volume alone. She stats out considering accepting the offer to replace the Sovereignty High Bishop just so she can perform the marriage of Detlinde and Ferdinand herself, to not being entirely sure she's going to be able to keep herself from asking for Ferdinand back very rudely during the ceremony, to thinking she deserves a medal for the effort she puts into not expressing her disdain toward Detlinde out loud.
  • Rozemyne wants to give Hartmut a task that will keep him busy for a while. When she considers having him memorize the names of all the gods, subordinates included, someone else points out he'll probably be done quite quickly. Helping Angelica do the same, on the other hand, just might keep him busy for the rest of winter.
  • Rozemyne notes that Wilfried's interruption of Charlotte reporting what he and Lestilaut did resembles the behavior of a friend from Earth when she found his dirty books as Urano. She responds by asking Wilfried where he's hiding something and advising him against doing so under his bed because it would be a too obvious choice, having absolutely no reason to say such a thing from Wilfried's perspective. Charlotte getting the conversation back on track by leading with the fact that its subject matter must be reported doesn't help.
  • Dunkelfelger losing the ditter game in part because Lestilaut mistakes Rozemyne chugging one of Ferdinand's Foul Medicine rejuvenation potions for her deliberately poisoning herself.
  • For security reasons, Sylvester reads Clarissa's letter to Hartmut and discovers the pair's means of courtship, which is best described as a perpetual Rozemyne-praising competition, the hard way.

    Volume 3
  • Rozemyne's plan to foil Ahrensbach's Stealing the Credit tendencies working because nobody in Ahrensbach listened to everything recorded in the magic tool before showing it off at the Interduchy Tournament. Eventually, a member of the public did that for them and it manifested as an advertisement Ehrenfest books being played by a tool that was allegedly all Ahrensbach's work.
  • The fact that ordonnanz can pick up voices other than that of the sender results in Rozemyne Exact Eavesdropping on a conversation the Dunkelfelger archducal family definitely wouldn't be having in public. For context, the main message was Hannelore's answer to the new information that Lestilaut's ditter contract was technically invalid because he wrote in on plant paper instead of parchment:
Sieglinde's faint background voice: What do you mean, you used it all to make your art?
  • Rozemyne making plans to avoid getting scolded by Ferdinand by distracting him. The two first ideas that come to her mind are sticking a spoon of consommé into his mouth and starting a rebellion.
  • Rozemyne's attempts to leave the shumil magic tool with her recordings for Ferdinand in Justus' care rather than Ferdinand's result in Sylvester noticing the situation upon his return, grabbing the shumil to listen to every single recording himself, having a good laugh, then telling Justus to basically use the recordings to blackmail Ferdinand into taking breaks.
  • Ferdinand makes some recordings for Rozemyne. The first is telling her it's time to eat. The second is a more formal "whatever you are doing, stop it," which sums up Rozemyne's story arc more than it should.

    Volume 4
  • Sylvester responding to the idea of Rozemyne training Melchior by saying it's a good way to make him worried about the latter's future.
  • Brunhilde's proposal to Sylvester:
    • Rozemyne's initial reaction is so fretful that Sylvester tells her to breathe. Rozemyne does as told, but slips into Lamaze-style breathing, visibly baffling Sylvester in the process. Next, Lieseleta turns out to have finished making the magic tool containing recordings of Ferdinand's voice into a stuffed shumil and decides to put it to use then and there. She activates a recording asking Rozemyne to breath in, but the one asking her to breath out never comes, so she does it when she can no longer continue holding her breath.
    • After she regains enough composure, Rozemyne states that Brunhilde can do better and deserves someone who is more talented and will treat her well. Brunhilde responds by voicing her opinion that Rozemyne can do better than Wilfried, yet she's fine being engaged to him.
    • After the conversation is over and Sylvester has left the room, Rihyarda requests to leave Rozemyne's service to return to Sylvester's side. Rozemyne accepts and sends an ordonnanz to Sylvester to tell him the news. Sylvester's answer is to clarify that he has no intent to make stealing Rozemyne's retainers a pattern.
  • Rozemyne at some point internally uses "only in Dunkelfelger" as one would use "Only in Florida."

    Volume 5
  • Angelica returns from a rare opportunity to use the dormitory's gathering spot, saying she got more feystones than she can count. Rozemyne internally hopes that she's not being literal.
  • Damuel tells Rozemyne that she's gotten heavier instead of taller in an attempt to lighten a tense moment. The face he makes while apologising ends up doing the trick as far as Rozemyne is concerned.

    Volume 6
  • The arm position Bonifatius intends to use to escort Rozemyne to her room without risking harming her gets a structural integrity test from Rozemyne's knights that at some point includes young adults going Human Jungle Gym on him.
  • Ottilie's overall response to Hartmut and Clarissa wanting to give Rozemyne their names can be best summed up as "Please do it already and take them to the Sovereignty with you while you are at it, they are driving me crazy! I will even stand witness!"
  • Hartmut's response to the pain from name-swearing is basically a G-rated version of Too Kinky to Torture.
  • A drunk Bonifatius wonders out loud who made the law that prevents archducal family members from moving to the Sovereignty outside of marriage and Rozemyne knows the answer for the same reason someone still in school would still know historical names long-forgotten by adults. Bonifatius then decides to curse the long-deceased Zent who made the law.
  • Philine tells Rozemyne that she plans to replicate Clarissa's proposal method when she comes of age. Rozemyne half-wonders if she should warn Damuel all while hoping he like knives.
  • Sylvester strongly hints that he's feeling like Ferdinand and Rozemyne are both treating him like a luggage servant. When Rozemyne understands this as Ferdinand alone needing to quit the behavior, Sylvester discreetly gives her a light hit.
  • Rozemyne having a moment of wanting to punch Tuuli's hypothetical future husband that is difficult to read as anything else than the genes her physical body inherited from Gunther acting up. It gets even funnier when Tuuli's future husband turns out be quite possibly the only young man in the entire country that Rozemyne might approve of: Lutz.
  • After it's suspected that Ferdinand went out of his way to make sure Sylvester didn't fall asleep during a funeral they were both attending, Sylvester notices something that hints that Ferdiand might have slept during the funeral.

    Volume 7
  • The whole discussion that erupts in the lesson about synchronization potions, which overall results in Rozemyne accidentally sounding like she has already had sex, to the point that Wilfried asks her when, exactly, she has encoutered one of the related mana phenomenons.
  • Rozemyne stumbles right after entering the room that has been prepared for an extremely important conversation between her and Sylvester. The fact that Sylvester is the type to get amused rather than annoyed at such an event gives the scene even more levity.
  • While venting with Sylvester about what she would like to tell the Royal Family if she could get away with it, Rozemyne comes up with the idea of throwing the Grutrissheit into Anastasius' face. But she won't actually do it, as she wouldn't want to damage the book.
  • Rozemyne's suggestions for traps for Georgine are all thing an Earth gradeschool kid would come up with, such as putting marbles between her and her destination. She also suggests dumping waste on her to force her to remove her magic-blocking clothes.
  • About 90% of the problems that Rozemyne's disappearance causes for the Ehrenfest come from Hartmut getting overenthusiastic.

    Volume 8
  • Justus and Eckhart's very constrasting reactions to Rozemyne's Overnight Age-Up, with the former almost forgetting about the urgent rescue operation over it, while the latter seems to just barely register it on an intellectual level. Justus lets his curiosity get the better of him, prompting Hartmut to fill him in. Hartumut's idea of filling people in about just about anything related to Rozemyne is later implied to have made Justus, who himself can be quite the Motor Mouth about the tiniest piece of trivia, regret asking.
  • Rozemyne, while being guarded by three scholars, internally uses flattering descriptors for Justus and Clarissa, but settle on "of the Flapping Tongue" for Hartmut.
  • While Rozemyne is treating Ferdinand, the latter ends up able to talk — and engage in Snark-to-Snark Combat — long before he can move on his own volition. Which is the reversal of their situation during Part 4 Volume 1, when it was Rozemyne in that position and Ferdinand flicked her painfully on the forehead and she couldn't even rub the place he hit.
  • Ferdinand makes Hartmut and Clarissa Rozemyne's de facto PR team, explictly allowing for outright brainwashing if need be. Rozemyne is appropriately creeped out.
  • After fiding out that Rozemyne has half a dozen retainers who are able to make Ewigeliebe's sword because of a competition of who could do so faster, Ferdinand suggests that it's the consequence of Rozemyne's strangeness rubbing off on them. Rozemyne internally points out that summoning winter was Ferdinand's idea.
  • It turns out that Ferdinand's dream laboratory would basically have its own greenhouse, zoo and aquarium. Why doesn't his ideal laboratory exist yet in spite of his status? Sylvester was the responsible sibling on that topic and refused to build it.
  • Giebe Illgner is so taken aback by the information that his estate has a long-forgotten teleporation circle in its front garden that he demands to know the location of said front garden in panic.
  • Someone apparently asked the commoner soldier to dump excrement on the invaders. The chapter is from Gunther's point of view, so all everyone knows is that it was a noble's idea. Cue Gunther both thinking that the idea has Rozemyne's name written all over it and hoping it's not her idea. Someone who read the previous volume will know that it is, indeed, Rozemyne's idea.

    Volume 9
  • Georgine and Grausam had so many body doubles that the number of named characters who (sometimes proudly) claim have been personally involved in taking them down becomes comical.
  • Rozemyne's idea of using marbles on the floor from Volume 7 was actually implemented and combined with covering another part of the room's floor with adhesive, forcing one of the Georgine doubles to strip to escape the latter. It gets even more amusing when it turns out that the real Georgine was within hearing range, but out of sight and relying on comments from Melchior's retainers to discover the exact nature of the traps.
  • Judithe apparently having been able to organize a nightime outing to a greenhouse for Rozemyne because nobody had the heart to tell her that the "flowers" made available to help the adult knights psychologically recover from the battle weren't literal flowers.
  • Rozemyne, in front of their retainers and without any sort of noble decorum, telling Ferdinand to run from an undesirable situation while he still can. The undesirable situation? Being pressured into marrying her.
  • Sylvester tells Rozemyne and Ferdinand to not do anything crazy, all while admitting it's a tall order. Rozemyne interally points out that she and Ferdinand had a plan that qualified as "crazy" before Sylvester even asked them to avoid such a thing.

Anime exclusive

  • The mere fact that up to his debut, Ferdinand exists mostly as someone for Myne to talk with in The Stinger of some episodes.
  • In the OVA that adapts a side chapter from Justus' point of view in Part 3, Volume 2, Justus is trying to find out information about Myne. He passes right by her and her mother coming home from shopping. He fails to notice because Myne is completely obscured by an enormous loaf of bread she's carrying.
  • In The Stinger for the first OVA, Justus gets way too excited at the prospect of meeting Myne after finding out she acted very enthusiastic about books in Ferdinand's presence. As he goes into his own world, Ferdinand comments that Justus and Myne would probably get along swimmingly because they are both weirdos.
  • In The Stinger of Episode 22, Myne presents Lutz with a Gutenberg printing press and tells him that she'll eventually have him make one. Lutz thoroughly examines it and asks Myne if she has estimated the costs of making it. Myne comments that he's getting more and more like Benno, with whom she had a similar conversation concerning the productions costs of the children's bible early in the episode proper.
  • The anime moves the scene in which Myne beats Ferdinand at reversi to the typically Super-Deformed post-credits scene. The face Ferdinand makes upon losing is ridiculously comical by the character's standards, and the animation style isn't helping at all.

Unsorted

  • We see what task delegation means in the medieval-ish world of Ehrenfest from multiple POVs. For natives, it usually means thinking "Hehe, sucks to be you/him/her" and variations at each other. And then you realize they are actually thoughtful compared to Myne. Myne just delegates, with no worry in the world, not even about how heavy the workload of the person she delegates to already is. It takes her becoming Rozemyne to change that habit and only because people would actually die if they fail to fulfill archnoble's tasks. Benno implies that without Rozemyne's influence, Sylvester and Elvira are still as unreasonable as Myne used to be.
  • Unintentional hilarity from some machine translations of the novels:
    • Occasionally it translates "Alright" and "Understood" as "I am strong/smart." so people sound like they are bragging.
"Please tell my attendants to prepare my quarters."
      "I am strong."
    • It more often than not translates the word master as husband. Leading to master Benno becoming husband Benno. Benno is a lifelong bachelor. The only person calling him master all the time, in his chapters and internal narration is Mark, his deputy.
    • Machine translations have problems with synonyms or subtle differences in meaning. Leading to such gems as: "It was the beautiful, beautiful thing that is beautiful." and similar.
