Team CRDL
Cardin Winchester
The leader of team CRDL. In the Reactsverse, instead of being a Jerk Jock, he is a Jerk with a Heart of Gold.- The Atoner: 'A Blackbird In Flight' is all about Cardin's quest for redemption and his budding romance with Melanie.
- Adaptational Badass: His canon self is a Dirty Coward Jerk Jock. Here, Cardin is a Jerk with a Heart of Gold, averting his characterisation in most other fanfics.
- Badass Normal: With no shown Semblance, he fights with his fists and weapons. So far, he has not lost a single fight.
- Tranquil Fury: When he REALLY loses it.
- Beware the Nice Ones: While somewhat crude and brash, he is one of the downright nicest characters. However, piss him off and he WILL destroy you. Just ask Dove.
- Big Brother Instinct: Towards the cast. It would be a very bad idea to hurt any of them.
- Curb-Stomp Battle: Basically, Cardin against anyone stupid enough to anger him. Even a Parody Sue gets knocked out in one hit.
- Heel–Face Turn: Did one much earlier on. A Blackbird In Flight shows this process.
- Jerk with a Heart of Gold: He is often incredibly crude and brash, but seriously, don't hurt his friends. Or Melanie.
- Official Couple: With Melanie.
- Real Men Wear Pink: He often knits dolls for everyone. Especially Melanie.
- Single-Target Sexuality: To Melanie.
- This Is a Drill: Needler is a drill-bazooka hybrid that he and Melanie created after his teammates destroyed his mace.
Dove Bronzewing and Russell Thrush
The other two members of team CRDL that the fic features.- Butt-Monkey: Almost all of their appearances have them either being beaten up by Cardin or scared by a teacher. Even Tohru scares them.
- Dirty Coward: They like to insult Cardin, but when he starts getting angry, they immediately run.
- Even Evil Has Standards: Dove joins up with the rest of the student cast when they set out to rescue Weiss from Siegmund.
- Goldfish Poop Gang: They pose no threat to the cast at all. Especially to Cardin. And they're definitely small fry compared to the likes of Siegmund Schnee.
- Jerkass: Both of them.
- Real Men Wear Pink: They own dolls. Dolls that Minako gladly steals.
Sky Lark
The other CRDL member who has done a Heel–Face Turn.- Nice Guy: He has fairly little traits shown.
Team SONA (Sonar)
Elsa Schnee
A clone of Weiss created by Velvet. She gained life and sentience when she was exposed to Life Dust.- An Ice Person: Her Semblance, in comparison to Weiss'.
- Buxom Beauty Standard: Despite being a clone of Weiss. This causes the latter much distress.
- Book Worm: Likes reading. A lot.
- Expy:
- Of Yuki Nagato. This is played up in "CFVY Reacts to Recaps".
- Her one shown technique is an expy of Yasuo's Last Breath.
- Shrinking Violet: Her old personality.
- Sugar-and-Ice Personality: The one she seems to be settling into.
Minako Arisato
- Cool Sword: Deus Xiphos.
- Dude Magnet: To Dove and Russell, much to her irritation.
- Nice Girl: When she isn't trolling people, that is,
- New Transfer Student: The TRUE transfer student during 'Weiss Reacts to Transfer Students'.
- Ship Tease: With Jaune.
- Troll
Norn
A Persocom constructed by Blake. She becomes sentient due to exposure to Life Dust.- Emotionless Girl: Implied to be this, but a lot of hints point to her being Not So Stoic.
- Hypercompetent Sidekick: To Blake.
- Meaningful Name:
- The author picked her name to go with Elda and Freya. As she was exposed to Life Dust, she is most likely sentient, turning her, technically, into a Chobits.
- Her weapons, Verthandi and Skuld, are named for two of the mythological Norns that she takes her name from.
- Ninja Maid: She even wields kunai, fittingly named Verthandi (otherwise known as Belldandy) and Skuld.
- Ridiculously Human Robot: As a Persocom, she obviously fits this.
- Savvy Girl, Energetic Girl: With Penny as the Energetic Girl.
- Servile Snarker: The few times she actually speaks, she comes off as one. Despite being emotionless.
- Super Mode: Silver Crow Protocol and its later upgrade, Valkyria Mode.
Ori Schwarzerd
The fourth member of team SONA.- Expy: Is based off of Morgana from Arthurian Legend.
- The Ghost: Only seen once in all of two volumes.
The Arc Siblings
Aspasia Arc
Jaune's older sister.- Animal Motifs: Lions.
- Bare-Fisted Monk: She IS Hercules, after all.
- Brother–Sister Incest: A Defied Trope. She gets irritated when Pyrrha implies this is what she wants for Jaune- indeed, her love for Jaune seems to be more like a Cool Big Sis.
- Cuddle Bug: She likes hugs. A lot.
- Cute Bruiser: She's tiny and stomps on Dove with ease.
- Expy: Very subtle, but she's based off of Hercules- her hoodie is based off of the pelt of the Nemean Lion, among other things.
- Meaningful Name: 'Embrace'.
- Older Than They Look: She's actually older than Jaune.
- Super-Strength: Fitting for an expy of Hercules himself.
Maeve Arc
Jaune's second eldest sister.- Dark Action Girl: Is definitely the creepiest and weirdest of Jaune's sisters.
- Expy: Her personality resembles Tharja, while her name and costume resembles Scathach and her portrayal in Shin Megami Tensei. Makes sense if you think about it....
- Hot Witch: Yep. Even based off two of them, too.
Aristomache, Artemisia and Amaranthe Arc
Jaune's younger sisters.- Badass Longcoat: Amaranthe.
- Epic Flail: Aristomache.
- Expy:
- Of Perseus, Diomedes and D'Artagnan.
- Artemisia is mentioned to look like Pyrrha somewhat.
- Luckily, My Shield Will Protect Me: Artemisia.
- Royal Rapier: Amaranthe.
Lucina and Euphemia Arc
Jaune's older sisters. Not the real Euphemia and Lucina by any means.- The Ditz: Euphemia.
- Expy Of Lucina and Euphemia.
- Lampshade Hanging: Ruby and Yang lampshade how Elf can't find a name for them that isn't blatantly ripping off their real name. At least Euphemia is justified- many of the Arc family have Greek names (Aristomache, Alexander, Artemisia and Aspasia).
- No Sense of Humor: Lucina's introduction is nearly beating up Sky for making a joke about her weapon.
- Royal Rapier: Lucina'sweapon, implied to be the Falchion.
Everyone Else
Melanie Malachite
One of the Malachite sisters. In the Reactsverse, she and Miltiades are students at Beacon.- Berserk Button: Insulting Cardin or Miltiades.
- Living Emotional Crutch: To Cardin. Hurting her is his Berserk Button.
- Nice Girl: Was the first person to start Cardin's redemption by talking to him.
- Official Couple: With Cardin.
- Red Oni, Blue Oni: The calmer one of the two.
Miltiades Malachite
One of the Malachite sisters. In the Reactsverse, she and Melanie are students at Beacon.- In-Series Nickname: Milly.
- Red Oni, Blue Oni: The more excitable one of the two.
- Shipper on Deck: For her sister and Cardin.
Sun Wukong and Neptune Vasilias
- Gadgeteer Genius: Sun shares this role with Isara for the Tankery club.
- The Knights Who Say "Squee!": Neptune is this for Tankery, to the point of having had a Precocious Crush on Miho. This is his main motivation for trying to start a Tankery club in Beacon.
- Mr. Fanservice: Both of them.
- Red Oni, Blue Oni: Sun is less coolheaded than Neptune.
- School Idol: Both of them, again.
- Ship Tease: Sun with Neptune.
Vivi
A Weiss plushie brought to life by Life Dust. Currently serving Velvet.- Badass Adorable: Despite being a plushie, she still manages to keep up with the rest of the cast, even Blake, the resident Badass.
- Little Miss Badass: She is also dwarfed by everyone, even her own mallet.
- Companion Cube: She WAS this before she was exposed to Life Dust.
- Living Toys: What she is now.
- Cute Bruiser: She is a plushie who manages to bat Blake out of the air with her humongous hammer and fight her on equal ground.
- Deadpan Snarker: She seems to snark a lot.
- Fun Size: A plushie version of Weiss.
- Hypercompetent Sidekick: To Velvet.
- The Lancer: Is it not obvious yet?
- Snark-to-Snark Combat: With Yatsuhashi.
- Straight Man: To Velvet, again.
- Token Mini-Moe: She is the smallest character in the cast.
- The Unintelligible: The only vocalization she can make is 'Pi'. However, most characters can understand her and this trope is averted in 'The Diary of Vivi', where she writes in normal English.
Sir Lyserg / The RWBYSaurus
A dinosaur wearing a top hat and monocle Blake ordered from the Schnee Dust Company.- High-Class Glass: Wears a monocle and a top hat.
- Insistent Terminology: He is a Utahraptor, not a Velociraptor.
- Only Sane Man: Much to his despair when Vivi uses him to drive through traffic and steal Weiss-shaped candies for Velvet.
- Quintessential British Gentleman: Despite being, well, a dinosaur.
- Unusually Uninteresting Sight: He is a dinosaur. Nobody except Weiss comments on this.
Isara Gunther
A recent transfer to Beacon with a taste for technology and engineering. Ends up being dragged into the Tankery club by Nora.- Beleaguered Assistant: To Nora as her tank driver.
- BFG: Her shotgun.
- Breaking the Fourth Wall: It's implied she's aware that in her home series, she gets killed off.
- Cloudcuckoolander's Minder: When Ren isn't around.
- Gadgeteer Genius: With Sun, serves as this to the Tankery club.
- Only Sane Man: Poor girl ends up with the likes of Velvet, Pyrrha and Nora.
- Wrench Wench
Winter Schnee
Weiss' biological older sister, who has returned from a long trip with an elite group of Huntresses.- Beware the Nice Ones: She's very nice but hurting Rook sets her over the egde. An unfortunate Nevermore pushes this button and gets its head ripped off. As Russell finds out when he attempts to accost her and ends up with his pants set on fire. And when Rook gets hurt, she rips off a Grimm's head.
- Oblivious to Love: She doesn't seem to notice that half the Beacon student body considers her the most attractive girl on campus, over even Yang. Yang is.....somewhat miffed about being usurped. She seems to have grown out of this by Volume 3, however.
- Weak, but Skilled: Her Semblance of temperature control isn't too useful against the Grimm. Winter is incredibly good with her weapon to compensate.
Rook Leblanc
A new student who meets Winter during the Valentine's Day special.- Cowboy: His motif, right down to his accent and mannerisms.
- Country Mouse: As a boy who mentions having lived with nomads in Vacuo until his Huntsman mentor took him to Vale.
- Foil: To Jaune. Both are Nice Guys who have French names whose respective love interests are well-respected and skilled fighters who suffer from Attractiveness Isolation and even have similar motifs (the Knight in Shining Armor and the Cowboy). However, while Jaune is an Idiot Hero who relies on swordplay, Rook is a Guile Hero who relies on gunplay to fight.
- The Gunslinger: The Trick Shot type. He specialises in making quick and precise shots with his revolver Magpie.
- Improbable Aiming Skills: Is a better shot than even Pyrrha. Qrow even outright says that Rook is possibly one of the greatest shooters he's ever met.
- Implied Love Interest: Winter.
- Meaningful Name: Rooks are birds closely related to crows, and 'blanc' is French for white. Note his attire and note his motif again. If that wasn't enough, Qrow is revealed to be the benefactor who sent him to Beacon in the first place.
- Nice Guy: He's introduced by sitting with Winter because she looked lonely, for one.
- Ravens and Crows: Also his motif alongside being a cowboy, just like his mentor.
- Ship Tease: With Winter.
- Trap Master: Is a skilled setter of traps, in part due to having to grow up on the frontiers of Vacuo.
