     Anzu Hoshino
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/anzu_hoshino.png

Anzu Hoshino is The Protagonist who bears the "anti-heroine" attribute. She's a high school first year who claims her three great desires are video games, cats (especially her pet Momohiki), and chocolate. She has no interest in real-life romance and has been counter-measuring all the shōjo manga-like situations conspired by Riri. She is a logical, blunt, and very caring person who can't leave her friends when they're in trouble. She cares little for how strangers perceive her, and will always stay true to her internal sense of right and wrong. She is well known for her bushy red hair, her love of cat-themed clothes, and her biggest fear is cockroaches.

Voiced by: Rie Takahashi (Japanese), Deneen Melody (English)

  • Absurd Phobia: Of bugs; specifically cockroaches. She's so afraid of them that it scared her into running away from her own home.
  • A-Cup Angst: When Riri in human form blurts out that Rena pushes her breasts up as a means to make them look larger than they actually are, an interested Anzu wonders if she should use that method too.
  • Ambiguously Bi: She swoons over the male characters from her video games, and does occasionally get charmed by her male friends. Although when she meets Arisa, she's very enamored by her.
  • Aren't You Going to Ravish Me?: Invoked when a panty thief breaks into her house while she's taking a nap. When she encounters him (initially believing it was Riri stealing more of her things), she's more angry than scared, ranting that the panty thief was more interested in rummaging through her mother's underwear rather than hers (before immediately wondering why she'd want that either). Hilariously, her reaction scares him off, and he's captured by Junta before being arrested by a police officer.
  • Badass in Distress: Anzu has a no nonsense attitude that makes her hard to approach, and makes anyone who interacts with her to respect her because she's not one to back down. However, when she sees a roach in her house, she's reduced to hysterics and has to bring in Tsukasa to squash it. When an underwear thief breaks into her house, she scares him off, but it's Junta who takes him down and holds him until the police arrest the pervert. When Yukana tracks down Tsukasa and starts to stalk him again, Anzu gets her to back off, but she's then cornered by two thugs, though luckily, with the intervention of Riri, Junta, Ryuya, Saki and her older brother, and Tsukiya sans Hajiri arrive in the nick of time, and beat up the thugs who confess that they were hired by Yukana to ambush Anzu. When Yukana decided that it's best to confront Anzu and get her away from her beloved Tsuakasa once and for all, Yukana rushes Anzu and slashes her forehead with a knife. Though Anzu stands her ground and declares that she would never leave Tsukasa's side, it's ultimately Arisa and Tsuaka that disarm Yukana and make sure she stays put until the police arrive.
  • Celibate Heroine: Riri labels her as an "anti-heroine" due to her adamant refusal to pursue romance. Despite this and being none too pleased with Riri forming her harem of boys in the series, she still cares for said boys and appreciates the friendships she forms with them.
  • Character Development: Early in the series, she was very hesitant about love and tries to avoid the many Love Tropes that Riri throws at her. She was also very distant from love and often sticks to video games and chocolate, and her pet cat; Momohiki. But once she realizes that they aren't being controlled by Riri, as well as growing accustomed to them and Riri, she's a lot more caring to her friends and even Riri.
  • Childhood Friends: A whole group of them in fact. Though the only ones who were named are Junta, Ryuya, Amin, and Riporin.
  • Cooldown Hug: Gives a tearful one to Tsukasa after their encounter with Yukana Kishi, the source of Tsukasa's trauma and anxiety towards women, unsettles him deeply and he confesses his backstory to her, both to comfort and to let him know that she would've been the first to believe him had they met and become friends much earlier. The act causes him to emotionally tear up in relief immediately after.
  • Curtains Match the Window: Red hair and red eyes.
  • Declaration of Protection: She declares her intent to always stay by Tsukasa's side to protect him from Yukana, all while putting herself between them so that Tsukasa doesn't have to confront the source of his trauma. Impressively, she does this while suffering from a deep, bleeding cut on her forehead courtesy of Yukana attacking her with a knife just moments before.
  • Dude Magnet: Over the course of the series, she gains the affection of several guys. Tsukasa is drawn to her because she's one of the few women outside his family not to see him as a Lust Object, Junta has held a flame for her since their childhood (as does another childhood friend, Ryuya), and Hijiri is drawn to her because she's the first girl who isn't instantly enamored with him. While much of this was deliberately set up by Riri to fix Anzu's "anti-heroine" status and to help her achieve her ideal romantic life, Anzu's natural charm, empathy for others, and her strong-willed personality are what makes them stay, not Riri's meddling. Speaking of, it's also implied that Riri themselves might have developed feelings for Anzu.
  • Fiery Redhead: Has red hair and is definitely fiery when needed.
  • Gamer Chick: A certified one. She's extremely good at video games and it's one of her greatest desires.
  • Genre Savvy: She knows a lot about common Love Tropes to the point where she can quickly pick up on Riri's schemes and avoid them before she's too late.
  • Jerkass to One: Played for Laughs. She's normally nice and friendly, if somewhat eccentric, to most people. She absolutely can't stand Riri though, and never hesitates to get violent with them in retaliation for putting her through awkward romantic situations.
  • Jerk with a Heart of Gold: "Jerk" is pushing it, but despite Anzu's tendencies of being a little high strung, blunt, and hammy whenever she's showing off, she's ultimately a kind, understanding, and considerate girl who goes out of her way to help her friends if they are ever in trouble. She even extends this kindness to Riri, who she considers her Sitcom Archnemesis, as she comes to eventually appreciate their presence despite still considering them an annoying pest even at the end of the series.
  • Kindhearted Cat Lover: She loves cats in general, having a boatload of cat-themed merchandise at home and was especially depressed when Riri takes her cat Momohiki, one of her three greatest desires, away from her at the start of the series. It's implied that she gets it from her father, whose home office is likewise filled to the brim with cat-themed items.
  • Large Ham: She can really get into it when pressed.
  • Lethal Chef: She tries but she's a walking disaster in the kitchen. This is why she usually delegates the cooking to Tsukasa instead.
  • Loophole Abuse: She tries to skirt around Riri's rules from time to time, such as trying to get chocolate, but always ends up making the situation worse for herself. Riri even puts in a clause that causes Anzu to suffer terrible diarrhea if she tries to mention the plan to anyone to stop her from just blurting it out. She is able to succeed in pulling this off in the last episode of the anime, however, by pointing out that (even if it's infinitesimally small) there is a chance she could fall in love with Riri, meaning he can't be Reassigned To Anarctica by his bosses for breaking the rules if he's a potential mate.
  • Minor Living Alone: Riri magically induces Anzu's parents (and Momohiki) to go abroad and leave her on her own in Japan so that Riri can have an easier time concocting romantic scenarios for Anzu.
  • Nice Girl: Though a little high strung and prone to eccentric behavior, Anzu is nonetheless a caring and kindhearted young woman who is loyal to her friends and would defend them without blinking if they were ever in trouble.
  • Oblivious to Love: In the past, she failed to notice that both Tonta and Ryuya had a crush on her due to her fixation on games. It took Ryuya flat out admitting that he liked her to her face for her to know about how he feels about her. Downplayed in the present, where not only is she completely aware that Junta has a crush on her (but only after Riri directly told her) but also acknowledges that Tsukasa and Hijiri may develop feelings for her as well if they haven't already.
  • One of the Boys: She's a tomboyish gal who's more into video games than mostly girly stuff. She even mostly played games with boys when she was younger, though she did still have female friends.
  • Selective Obliviousness: Invoked. When pressed if she's aware that Junta has a crush on her, she'll vehemently deny it, leading others to assume she's completely dense. However, as mentioned above, she's fully aware of his affections; she simply wants to avoid pursuing any kind of romantic developments that would fall under Riri's machinations.
  • She Cleans Up Nicely: While Anzu doesn't look bad and can be just as cute as any other girl, she's normally a sloppy dresser and is satisfied with just wearing either plain outfits or cat prints, making her look more plain than average. Whenever Riri forces her to dress up more traditionally feminine and put on some makeup, she stands out really well, stunning Tsukasa, Junta, and Ryuya when they see her.
  • Sweet Tooth: Chocolates are her favorite treat. It was one of her three greatest desires that was taken away from her at the beginning of the series.
  • Tomboy and Girly Girl: Her dynamic with her best friend, Saki, who is more overtly feminine compared to video game-loving and tomboyish Anzu.
  • Unwanted Harem: A gender-inverted example. Riri purposely tries to make sure that guys will end up in her life, although Anzu will try her darnedest to reject any notions of romance with her newfound male friends. She has a couple of close call moments with them, but will immediately try to change the subject, or something else happens that ruins what could've turned into a romantic moment between her and one of male characters.
  • Why Did It Have to Be Snakes?: She's terrified of cockroaches and bugs in general and will immediately go into a screaming fit if she so much as sees one at home.

     Riri/Rio
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/riri.jpeg
Click here to see Riri's human girl form

A mascot-type Mon wizard who was sent to assist Anzu in pursuing romance. They appear to be cunning and manipulative; resorting to anything possible just so Anzu can encounter shōjo manga-like situations. They can shapeshift into two human forms: a boy, going by Rio, or a girl, named Riri (he often goes by this name even in wizard form), claiming either to be Anzu's "cousin", and often uses either of these forms to spur Anzu along or spark jealousy between candidates.

Voiced by: Mikako Komatsu (Japanese), Courtney Lin (English)

  • A-Cup Angst: Purposely invoked to provoke the girls that were trying to force Anzu to make Kazuki notice them. Riri arrives in her female human form to complement one of the girls' boobs and lament how she wishes she knew how to fake a larger breast size like they can. This angers them into leaving.
  • Ambiguous Gender: It's unknown what gender Riri is. They’re often referred to by they/them or he/him. They also have two human forms that are the opposite gender, making it even more ambiguous. Anzu often refers to both human forms as their appropriate gender (he/him for Rio, and she/her for Riri).
  • Beware the Silly Ones: Riri can be quite goofy and looks like they can't cause much harm, but if you hurt or try to kill Anzu, they’ll drop their silliness and use their magic to severely punish you for it.
  • Beyond the Impossible: It's never stated how far his magic can go, but they can change the weather, teleport objects and/or himself, survive things that should hurt a lot more, can fly, and can erase memories, though that last one breaks one of the artificial rules they and other wizards follow. And if they break too many of those rules, they’ll be forced to go back to their universe and never come back to Earth, which ends up being the case in the show's final episode. The only known limit of their powers is that if their wand gets contaminated, they cannot use their magic for a limited time.
  • Big Damn Heroes: Has at least two instances. The first is when she rescues Anzu from two girls who were about to start bullying her due to her refusal to hook them up with Tsukasa. The second, more indirect one is when she's taken into an alley by two thugs, and before anything can happen to her, several of her friends show up to save the day.
  • Breaking the Fourth Wall: They narrate the series, talk directly to the viewers, and even tells the viewers not to skip the end credits if they want to see the Post-Credits Scene.
  • Butt-Monkey: To Anzu's aggression and insults. They also get constantly abused by her in some sort of way whenever he arrives.
  • Cloudcuckoolander: With their odd appearances of them coming out of nowhere and Genre Savvy knowledge on Love Tropes, they come off as this to whoever they meet.
  • Exotic Eye Designs: In both human forms, their eye color is a blend of purple and light blue rather than matching their hair color, and their eyes are shinier than most other characters.
  • The Gadfly: Teases and provokes Anzu almost all the time. This makes Anzu abuse them in many different ways.
  • Genki Girl/Genki Guy: Hyper, energetic, and always happy. In all 3 forms.
  • Jerk with a Heart of Gold: Riri is often manipulative and cunning towards Anzu, forcefully making her get into romantic situations. But they actually care a lot about Anzu and the others. They save Anzu from a near-death situation twice. (The first time, when Anzu was about to be jumped, they called everyone to stop the thugs. And the second time, after Yukana was put behind bars, she arrives to violate her rules and erase Yukana's memories to prevent further harm to Anzu) As Rio, he says his final goodbyes to Anzu before giving her her three desires back in return to never arrive to Earth ever again. This was short-lived, however, since Anzu forced Kate to bring him back and make him her (potential) romantic candidate.
  • Non-Standard Character Design: Unlike most of the main cast, Rio and Riri have blond hair and blue eyes, meaning they're the only ones without Curtains Match the Window, and a very Caucasian-looking character, even by anime standards. Also, their eyes are colored with gradients instead of solid colors like everyone else.
    • Further Downplayed with their wizard form; which looks very Mon-like and cartoony in comparison to practically every other character that isn't Kate.
  • Perpetual Smiler: In all 3 forms, no matter what emotion they experience, they smile. Well, unless you've gone too far...
  • Red Oni, Blue Oni: Riri is a lot more outgoing and energetic than Kate, who is a lot more careful and shy. Making Riri the Red Oni to Kate's Blue Oni.
  • Secret Identity: They’re capable of disguising themselves as a human, be it male or female, to more directly help (or provoke) Anzu.
  • Squishy Wizard: Can mess with time, use their magic to change the climate, and even erase memories, but they’re noticeably easy to throw around and hurt (mostly by Anzu). Apparently, even in human form, she's surprisingly light.

     Tsukasa Kazuki
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/tsukasa_kazuki.png
A cold and reserved boy who is Anzu's first romance candidate. He is popular among women due to his good looks but tends to avoid them, rejecting any romantic proposals outright. He meets Anzu in a meet-cute where she accidentally bumps into him and breaks his phone. Due to Riri's meddling, his house is flooded and he has to live with Anzu early in the story.

Voiced by: Yuichiro Umehara (Japanese), Jason Griffith (English)

  • Chick Magnet: He's popular among girls, but hates the attention his popularity gives him due to the trauma he suffered thanks to Yukana Kishi. The only girl he's comfortable being around with besides his older sister is Anzu.
  • Cooldown Hug: He gets one from Anzu after sharing his backstory with Yukana, assuring him that had they been friends back then, she would've been the first one to believe his side of the story.
  • Curtains Match the Windows: He has orange eyes to match his orange hair.
  • Dark and Troubled Past: Yukana's stalking traumatized him in his middle school days. Besides creepily following him around, which unsettled him the longer it went on, she also bought gifts for him using his mother's account, drugged him after breaking into his house and took unsolicited pictures together with him while he was unconscious, then posted those same pictures on his social media account with captions that demeaned his friends and classmates in order to isolate him. This results in Tsukasa's friends and classmates turning on him at school, his father hating him for supposedly leading the older woman on, and Tsukasa himself being so badly affected by this that he couldn't muster the strength to go to school anymore, prompting him to move out and enroll in a school far away from his old place just to get away from her.
  • Deadpan Snarker: He dryly takes jabs at Anzu's more eccentric antics.
  • Defrosting Ice Queen: He becomes this towards Anzu after they're forced to spend a little time together due to Riri's interventions. Anzu sees that he's not the coldhearted jerk that he presents around women, and he finds Anzu's constant assurances that she's not interested in dating him to be a welcome change to how other women act towards him.
  • Friendly Rivalry: Once he comes to terms with his feelings towards Anzu in the finale, he forms a rivalry with Junta and essentially declares war with him over her, but remains good friends with him even then.
  • He-Man Woman Hater: He tries to pass off this persona, coldly rejecting girls who offer a Love Confession or are extremely interested in trying to spend time with him. In reality, it's because he's developed a fear of women because of a stalking and harassment incident in the past, which results in Anzu becoming the only woman besides his sister and mother that he feels wholly comfortable around, as he sees her initial clear (and almost offensive) disinterest in him as a sign that she's safe to talk to.
  • Heroic BSoD: When he sees his old stalker appear before him, he breaks into a cold sweat and has a visible panic attack, prompting Anzu to ward said person off and get Tsukasa back home to safety.
  • Hidden Depths: Anzu finds that his cooking is pretty decent. He works part time as a chef at a restaurant, and likely also took up cooking due to living alone for several years after moving away from home to avoid a female stalker from his hometown.
  • Jerk with a Heart of Gold: Though blunt and sarcastic, he grows to care for both Anzu and Junta over the course of the series, especially after he slowly develops feelings for the former the more time they spend together.
  • Love Epiphany: After Yukana's arrested for attempting to murder Anzu, he ruminates on the moments he and Anzu shared together in the series, seeing her as that one comforting presence he really needed to help him get over his trauma and who he has grown to genuinely love being around with, realizing that she's the person he had come to cherish the most.
  • No Good Deed Goes Unpunished: His troubles with Yukana and the trauma the encounter gave him started all because he did her the simple kindness of helping her get her bag from the ground after she'd dropped it.
  • Only Sane Man: He is very normal compared to the other characters. Especially Anzu and Riri.
  • Perpetual Frowner: His default expression is a sullen and reserved frown. He starts smiling more the more time he spends with Anzu, and to a lesser extent, Junta.
  • So Beautiful, It's a Curse: Played straight. He really, really hates how much attention his looks draw. It makes him very uncomfortable and nervous, to the point of outright panic attacks if he's being ogled too long without a nearby friend for support. Having had to deal with a stalker will do that to you.
  • The Stoic: He's capable of emoting, but he usually keeps his feelings to himself and puts on a more reserved facade.
  • Trauma Button: Has trauma from a Stalker with a Crush named Yukana Kishi. She became dangerously obsessed with him after he ran into her on the street and picked up her bag for her, resulting in her stalking him, sending him random packages, and even drugging him to sleep to use his body for social media posts. This makes him have disturbing hallucinations and flashbacks whenever a girl approaches him.
  • Two First Names: His surname, Kazuki, is also a common first name for boys in Japan.
  • The Unfavorite: Implied to be the case with him and his relationship with his and Arisa's father. Tsukasa's father is noticeably a lot colder towards his son and actively berates him harshly when Yukana stalked and harassed him during Tsukasa's middle school years, putting the blame squarely on Tsukasa instead of the perpetrator even though the boy was visibly miserable and, as his mother and sister point out, in no way responsible for Yukana's actions. By contrast, he isn't as demeaning towards his older daughter Arisa, though his treatment of Tsukasa means she resents him anyway.
  • Used to Be More Social: Arisa tells Anzu that he used to be more outgoing and friendly until Yukana started stalking and harassing him. Indeed, we see in flashbacks that he used to smile more before becoming the cold, reserved boy we see him as at the start of the series.
  • When He Smiles: As he slowly opens up during the series, he begins to smile more especially when he's around Anzu. His sister quickly takes notice of this and is very happy that her younger brother has begun to loosen up again after a long while.

     Junta Hayami
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/junta_hayami.png

The Childhood Friend that Riri set up for Anzu, who is unsettled to have a random guy suddenly getting unknowingly dragged into the situation. He is known as the "rookie baseball star" at his school. Anzu is aware of his feelings for her and acts oblivious to hide them from him. He is sincere and somewhat cowardly, also hiding from cockroaches like Anzu, but is not afraid to physically confront anyone who hurts his friends.

Voiced by: Gakuto Kajiwara (Japanese), Aleks Le (English)

  • Absurd Phobia: Just like Anzu, he's afraid of cockroaches. Even though he was brave enough to chase down a thief like a police officer.
  • Beware the Nice Ones: Junta is a kind and sweet, if awkward, boy, but harm Anzu and he'll show no mercy- even if it means getting himself suspended from playing baseball.
  • Cannot Spit It Out: So obvious to Tsukasa that he just mentions it. For his part, Tsukasa says he's just happy to get to spend time around her again, also foregoing any chances to be alone with her (like when he insists that Tsukasa go with them to the summer festival).
  • Childhood Friend: Supposedly. Anzu has no idea who he is at first, so she at first chalks it up to Riri brainwashing some poor guy into being the "childhood friend romance" option. Riri insists that he didn't do anything of the sort, but Anzu isn't convinced until she encounters some old friends from elementary school who help her realize that Junta is her childhood friend Tonta; it was just as a case of Only Known by Their Nickname. His new lifestyle and her gaming-obsessed nature meant that they never had time to reunite until Riri forced the issue out of frustration. He's also childhood friends with Ryuya, Riporin, Amin, and the other unnamed friends in his and Anzu's childhood friend group.
  • Everyone Can See It: His crush on Anzu is obvious to everyone, and everyone tells him as much whenever they point it out. However, everyone also assumes that Anzu is far too oblivious to notice, so his secret is at least safe from her. For her part, Anzu absolutely knows about his crush due to Riri making him one of her three romance options, but chooses to play dumb, even after she realizes that they really are old friends and Riri has nothing to do with his feelings.
  • Formerly Fat: As a child, he was quite the chubby kid, with long curly hair that covered his eyes.
  • He Is All Grown Up: Junta was a chubby, little kid who grew up to be quite tall and handsome. This is in part due to Anzu, as he became determined to become physically fit after overhearing Anzu tell a classmate she likes boys who are athletic and can "beat the final boss" when they were kids, with her also telling him off-hand that he'd probably be good at baseball during one of their play dates being why he picked that sport in particular.
  • Not Brainwashed: Riri's magic has nothing to do with Junta's feelings (just the time at which Junta reunited with Anzu). Learning this makes Anzu realize that she's let her anger about Riri's scheme blind her.
  • Only Known by Their Nickname: When he was a kid, he went by the nickname Tonta. Anzu only knew him by this name, which combined with his physical transformation, is why she didn't recognize him. She feels absolutely awful once she realizes she genuinely did forget one of her closest friends.

     Hijiri Koganei
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/hijiri_koganei.png

A wealthy boy who is not in touch with the lives of "peasants", also set up by Riri for Anzu. He meets Anzu in a twist on a classic anime Meet Cute, where she is running late to school and is hit by his car. Knowing how much Hijiri was used to getting what he wanted, his father transferred him from his former private school so that he could learn to fend for himself.

Voiced by: Natsuki Hanae (Japanese), Kellen Goff (English)

  • Curtains Match the Window: He has tan hair and tan eyes.
  • I Love You Because I Can't Control You: He develops an interest in Anzu when she ends up being the only girl he's ever met not to fall in love with him at first sight, immediately beginning to shower her in gifts in an attempt to win her over, even going as far as getting a part-time job when she expressed annoyance that he using his parents' money to buy said gifts. However, it begins purely as a case of trying to repair his own damaged ego, as he simply can't fathom anyone not fawning over him.
  • Narcissist: His parents spoiled him a lot as a kid, so he became this as a teen. He sees himself as being so much better than everyone else that he calls everyone he encounters "peasants" and sees not being addressed formally as Mr. Koganei as insulting. The entire reason he goes to public school is because his father hoped it would serve as an indirect way of humbling him; something which didn't work at all until he encountered Anzu, who Hijiri assumed got hit by his car on purpose just to force him to date her because she was just that enamored. His attempts to "remedy" this situation is what sets him on the path of becoming a better person that earnestly cares about others.
  • Screw the Rules, I Have Money!: He gets his way by using his fortune to buy whatever, and even anyone, he wants, with the exception of Anzu, whom he becomes attracted to because he can't bribe her into being his girlfriend. At the end of the story, he uses his connections, or more likely his wealth, to pressure Yukana's uncle to make sure his niece stays locked up this time for stalking Tsukasa and, more importantly, trying to kill Anzu.
  • The Stoic: Doesn't react much to stuff that happens around him; often keeping a calm-looking neutral expression on his face.
  • Token Rich Student: He's from a very wealthy family despite going to the same middle-class public school as Anzu. This is justified since his father made him transfer to said school as a way to learn some humility and be able to fend for himself.
  • Tsundere: Or at least he tries to be one. Anzu calls this his "hot and cold personality", and laments that their co-worker at the convenience store is trying to instill this personality type onto him.

     Saki Takamine
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/saki_takamine.png

Anzu's best friend at school. She treasures her bond with Anzu as the latter had defended her during her difficult time in middle school. Because of the courage Anzu has given her, she has become someone not to be messed with, and is unafraid of shooting lecherous comments down such as by countering them with equally personal questions. She finds out about Anzu living with Tsukasa and Junta and promises to keep it a secret.

Voiced by: Manaka Iwami (Japanese), Jenny Yokobori (English)

  • Because You Were Nice to Me: She's very loyal to Anzu because, while Anzu was already was one of the few peers not to treat Saki like glorified eye candy or look upon her in envy, she also defended Saki when an upperclassman from their middle school days spread unsavory rumors about her in retaliation for Saki rejecting his sexual advances, squashing the rumor mill before it could even start and confronting him directly for his actions.
  • Beware the Nice Ones: She's capable of saying and doing devious things with the same, genuinely sweet smile on her face.
  • Curtains Match the Window: She has purple eyes and purple hair.
  • Dude Magnet: She's popular among the boys because of her beauty, noting that her and Tsukasa probably share the similar "daily nuisances" because of their attractiveness.
  • Missing Mom: She and her older brother live together with their single dad and no mention is made of whatever happened to their mother.
  • Non-Standard Character Design: Albeit subtlety, Saki has a much softer design than the other characters, which is more apparent in the anime.
  • Only Sane Woman: Of all of the quirky characters in this series, she seems the most normal.
  • Ship Tease: Minor moments with Tsukasa's friend, Makoto, in episode 10 (See Trauma Button), and the author’s Omake 6 and translation
  • So Beautiful, It's a Curse: Her pretty appearance gave her nothing but grief in the past. She got unwanted attention from boys who only saw her as a sex object, while girls would either fail to understand why she hated being popular due to her looks or would be jealous of both her beauty and said status. When she tried giving an upperclassman a chance with her, he tried to take advantage of her when they were alone at his house.
  • Trauma Button: Mori, the upperclassman who tried to take advantage of her in the past, is this for her. When she unfortunately meets him again during the summer festival, she falls into an internal panic, wanting Anzu to come and save her again like before. Thankfully, Makoto was there to help.

     Makoto Oda
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/makoto_oda.png
Tsukasa's somewhat airheaded and oblivious best friend. Due to his kind personality, Tsukasa doesn’t have to be as cold with him as he is with others.
Voiced by: Hiro Shimono (Japanese), Ryan Colt Levy (English)

  • A Day in the Limelight: While he doesn’t necessarily get a full-on focus episode, “The Childhood Friend is Easy Mode” (Episode 4) is probably the closest example, as he has a lot of screen time and viewers get an idea of his character and backstory (his easygoing personality, his admiration for Junta, and being turned off by girls due to his lazy and untidy sisters)
  • Ambiguously Bi: He seems to really admire Junta, and has to be pulled away by Tsukasa in one episode. However, he has a bit of Ship Tease with Saki.
  • Curtains Match the Window: He has blue eyes and blue hair.
  • Ship Tease: Has this with Saki briefly in Episode 10, when he pulls her aside after she runs into her middle school abuser at the summer festival.

     Arisa Kazuki
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/download_1_196.jpeg
Tsukasa's older sister. She and Anzu meet each other by complete coincidence after she helps the latter out from being harassed by a jerk she accidentally bumped into. Like her younger brother, she's blindingly attractive.
Voiced by: Marina Inoue (Japanese), Gilli Messer (English)

  • Big Sister Instinct: She's protective of Tsukasa for good reason and is more than happy to see her brother smile and loosen up after a while. In one flashback, she wasn't afraid to get physical with Yukana when the older woman tried to approach the already fearful Tsukasa while he was on his way to school.
  • Calling the Old Man Out: She hates their father for his treatment of Tsukasa, as even though the latter was clearly only a victim of harassment by his stalker, their dad still blamed him the entire incident.
  • Cool Big Sis: Basically her entire character.
  • Even the Girls Want Her: Anzu is stunned by her beauty upon meeting her and couldn't help but blush at her presence.
  • Shipper on Deck: She fully supports Tsukasa getting together with Anzu, seeing as how the latter has been nothing but a positive influence on her brother after everything he went through. She even teases the two in the finale about how Anzu had already proposed to him the moment she made her Declaration of Protection against Yukana, which flusters Tsukasa while Anzu is quick to deny it.

     Yukana Kishi (Unmarked spoilers!)
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/279436.jpg
A woman in her 20s who fell in love with and stalked Tsukasa when he was still in junior high. She is the primary source of Tsukasa's anxiety around women in general and his seemingly cold disposition in the present.

Voiced by: Yōko Hikasa (Japanese), Jesse Valinsky (English)

  • All of the Other Reindeer: She mentions that she was bullied at her workplace, hence why she quickly became obsessed with the much younger Tsukasa after he showed her a simple kindness. Her actions still very much qualify her as an Asshole Victim, however.
  • Asshole Victim: A surprising downplayed one. She was bullied at work, and grew obsessed with Tsukasa after he helped her up once when she fell. Despite having a restraining order against him, and later getting arrested, the worst she suffers is Laser-Guided Amnesia by a pissed off Riri. In the anime, Kate is seen looking for her new subject to play cupid for, which is implied to be Yukana.
  • Because You Were Nice to Me: Her obsession for Tsukasa started all because he was nice enough to help pick her bag up for her when he saw her on the ground. Unfortunately for Tsukasa, this simple act of kindness would result in Kishi harassing him until he couldn't take it anymore.
  • Believing Their Own Lies: She genuinely thinks that her love for Kazuki is mutual and everyone else in in the way of their relationship.
  • Brainwashing for the Greater Good: After she gets locked up in a mental hospital and made to stay there, thanks to Hijiri’s connections, Yukana remains obsesed with Tsukasa, so Riri decides to pay her a visit in her cell. Later, it's revealed that Yukana has lost her memories of Tsukasa, and Kate tells Anzu, Tsukasa, and Junta that Riri was punished for using their magic to erase a person's memory, a major crime that resulted in Riri nearly being sentenced to cleaning the wizard HQ's basement for life.
  • Dull Eyes of Unhappiness: Her eyes don't reflect light in them, emphasizing her mental instability and all around creepiness.
  • Entitled to Have You: She became dangerously obsessed with Tsukasa after he showed her one small act of kindness, and after she's arrested she's seen muttering to herself that she and Tsukasa are "destined to be together".
  • Ephebophile: She's an adult woman in her 20s who fell for the teenaged Tsukasa, who couldn't have been older than 15 when they met.
  • From Nobody to Nightmare: She was just a random woman Tsukasa helped up after she tripped one day. Unfortunately for him, this act of kindness ends up making her insanely obsessed with him, and she stalks him relentlessly, even going so far as to break into his room to spike his drink and take pictures of them together while trash talking online about other students, ruining his reputation at school and causing strife with his father who blames him for the scandal. This forced Tsukasa to move far away, and to reject every woman who seemed interested in him.
  • Hate Sink: Even if she was bullied at work, she is still an adult woman who at best is a mentally ill stalker and at worst is a child predator and attempted child murderer. It doesn’t help that her mother constantly had her brother/brother-in-law (and Yukana’s uncle) bail her out while blaming Tsukasa for stringing her daughter along.
  • Laser-Guided Amnesia: She suffers this while imprisoned after attacking Anzu with a knife by Riri, who broke one of their rules by causing her to forget all of her memories of the last few years, including her obsession with Tsukasa.
  • Murder the Hypotenuse: First, she sent thugs to attack Anzu with the intent to ensure that she would never walk in daylight again, then when that fails, personally attacks her with a knife herself a few days after while Anzu was alone and cornered after work. All because she was "in the way" of her love with Tsukasa.
  • Screw the Rules, I Have Connections!: It's revealed that the reason Yukana only got away with a restraining order for stalking Tsukasa, breaking into his home, drugging him, and posting pictures of her and him on social media that made it seem like they were dating (which broke some privacy laws and possibly could make her liable in a liebel suit considering all the crap Tsuakasa went through) is because her uncle, (a member of law enforcement or local politician) used his connections to keep Yukana fron facing any real legal concequences. However, after Yukana tracked down Tsukasa and tried to kill Anzu for getting in her way, she finally gets locked up, and when her mother calls Yukana's uncle to get her out of prison, he responds that he can't help this time, and Yukana will have to serve out her sentece, which came as a result of Hijiri using his connections, or more than likely his wealth, to threaten the uncle to make sure Yukana stays locked up.
  • Slasher Smile: Her default expression, especially when talking about Tsukasa. Combined with her Dull Eyes of Unhappiness, and even Anzu got the vibes that something was wrong with her during their first encounter when she simply pretended to be Tsukasa's girlfriend.
  • Stalker with a Crush: One of the more horrifying examples that's clearly not Played for Laughs. Her stalking of Tsukasa traumatized the boy so much that he gets panic attacks and anxiety whenever girls approach him.
  • The Unfettered: After years of not being able to find Tsukasa, she's able to find him by simply looking at a festival picture taken by some random girls, and sees him in the background. When Tsukasa gives Anzu his backstory after seeing how terrified his reaction to seeing her was, Yukana at first simply greeted him near where she met him after he helped her from a fall. This later turns into her buying online gifts for him by pretending to be his mother, and later managed to sneaking into his room, drugging him and taking pictures with him to ruin his reputation further. She later blackmails two thugs into attacking Anzu, and when that fails, she simply attacks Anzu with a knife. Fortunately Tsukasa gets over his fear of her, and she's also shortly arrested after a witness who saw the knife attack called the cops.
  • Villain Has a Point: Although it's out of a deranged lust for him, she defends Kazuki when her mother blames him for Yukana's behavior.
  • Would Hurt a Child: Not exactly children, but she hires goons to rough up Anzu who is a minor, and then tries to stab her herself. It's also unknown if she had any sexual intentions with Kazuki.
  • Yandere: OH SO MUCH for poor Tsukasa. She not only creepily stalked the boy in every corner, she set up hidden surveillance cameras to spy on him and his family, sent him packages using his mother's account, once broke into his home to spike his bottled drink to get him to sleep and to snap photos of her with him while he was unconscious, and ruined his reputation at school to isolate him from his friends and classmates via spreading false posts on his own social media account.

     Kate (Unmarked spoilers!)
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/492066.jpg

Another Mon wizard who is the co-worker of Riri. After various major events in the story, she appears in the final chapter/episode to take charge of Anzu.

Voiced by: Suzuko Mimori (Japanese), Triya Leong (English)

  • Ambiguous Gender: As viewers only see her in her wizard form which just looks like a cute blob, her gender is unknown. She goes by they/them or she/her. We do see Kate's human form in the 4th volume's extras however.
  • Blue Oni, Red Oni: From what we know about her from the finale, she's a lot more careful and uptight than her easy-going and overly energetic coworker Riri. Making her the Blue Oni to Riri's Red Oni.
  • Last Episode, New Character: Doesn't appear until the finale in Chapter 38/Episode 12, and it's only for a few minutes. Her sole purposes in the story are to (accidentally) force Anzu to reveal the magical situation to Tsukasa and Junta and to explain what happened to Riri. However, the episode’s second-to-last scene indicates that she may become a bigger character should Netflix renew the show for a second season, as it appears that Yukana (who, as a result of Riri’s actions, has had all her memories of Tsukasa erased) will be her new client.
  • Perpetual Frowner: Always has a worried and sad-looking frown on her face.

Yukika (left) and Rena (right)

A duo of girls from Class 7 who admire Tsukasa. They cause conflict for him and Anzu in the early episodes of the series.

Voiced by: Reina Kondo (Rena, Japanese), Gilli Messer (Rena, English), Tomomi Tanaka (Yukika, Japanese), Tiana Camacho (Yukika, English)

  • A Day in the Limelight: The episodes “My Life Has Become a Dating Sim” and “The Childhood Friend is Easy Mode” (Episodes 3 and 4) feature these two prominently.
  • Alpha Bitch: Rena is a subversion. She’s often rude and condescending to others, such as saying that "a letter can be a little bit extra sometimes" after Tsukasa rejects a girl’s confession letter, plus she does the typical Alpha Bitch move of confronting Anzu privately, believing that Anzu had a crush on him. However, despite having the looks and attitude, she doesn't seem to be as popular as this kind of character usually is.
  • Attention Whore: A majority of their screen time revolves around trying to get Tsukasa’s attention, with Rena trying to speak with him on the way to school, at lunch, and even dragging herself and Yukika along to the Toutor café when he only wanted to meet up with Anzu. Much like having to deal with his other fans, Tsukasa’s quite annoyed by it, and once she asks him to exchange their phone numbers, tells her to “find someone else to follow around”.
  • Beta Bitch: Yukika seems to be this for Rena. However, even she murmurs to herself that she knew Rena and Tsukasa would never be a thing.
  • Curtains Match the Window: Rena has light-auburn hair and light-auburn eyes, while Yukika has black hair and black eyes.
  • Green-Eyed Monster: Rena is shown to be jealous of Anzu’s friendship with Tsukasa, not understanding how she could be friends with him despite his good looks.
  • Luminescent Blush: This happens to Rena when Riri introduces their girl form and makes a comment about the size of her breasts in order to stop her and Yukika from bullying Anzu.
  • Not Good with Rejection: Rena calls a teacher a “meanie” when he refuses to give her his phone to speak with Tsukasa; when Tsukasa himself bluntly tells her to leave him alone, she calls him a “meanie” as well. She also takes offense to Anzu refusing to help her hook up with him.
  • Romantic False Lead: Rena is this to Anzu and Tsukasa early on in the series. It’s a downplayed example though, as Anzu has no interest in dating Tsukasa (or any one of the “hot guys” that’s a part of her dating sim scenario) nor does Tsukasa have any interest in dating (for much different reasons revealed later on in the series).
