The Kiyojƫji Paranormal Investigation Squad, also known as the Kiyo Cross Squad, is a group of students from Ukiyoe Middle School formed by Kiyotsugu to investigate youkai. Most of Rikuo's human friends are members of the squad, as well as the disguised Tsurara and the onmyouji Yura.

Voiced by: Aya Hirano (JP), Mela Lee (credited as Kayla Yesratsian) (EN)

Rikuo's neighbor and childhood friend. She doesn't know that Rikuo is indeed the grandson of Nurarihyon. She doesn't like youkai because she finds them scary. Ironically, she often finds herself involved in supernatural incidents.

One of Rikuo's classmembers and Saori's best friend. When her grandmother got sick she prayed for her health to Senba (the deity whom her grandmother has prayed to since childhood) and unluckily got cursed by Sodemogi... But she was rescued by Kurotabo and Senba.

  • Action Survivor: Not particularly strong or skilful yet she manages to survive lots of horrible encounters with youkai.

  • Genre Savvy: All that time with Yura made her capable of surviving during the Hundred Tales Arc...at least before she got caught again.

Yura's older brother. He was once a potential candidate for the leadership of the Keikain household.

  • Aloof Big Brother: He isn't exactly what one can call a caring brother to Yura.
  • Big Brother Bully: He's quite a jerk to Yura in general and an omake is about him pulling a mean prank on her.
  • Black-and-White Insanity: To him, onmyƍji are "white" and youkai are "black". He doesn't accept "grey" existences.
  • Calling Your Attacks: Subverted. He uses a different name for his shikigami and his attacks, in order to fool his opponent.
  • Combat Pragmatist: His battle methods include poison, traps, psychological warfare and more.
  • Guile Hero: He's a sly trickster who doesn't hesitate to use underhanded tactics during his fights.

  • Jerk with a Heart of Gold: He's a major asshole with a case of Black-and-White Insanity, but he displays a bit of concern for Yura from time to time.
  • Jerk with a Heart of Jerk: In an omake, he gives Yura a cola and mint candies for her trip to Kyoko. Just as his letter seems to indicate he's being him being nice to his sister for once, he instructs Yura to throw the mint candies inside the cola bottle so it explodes in her face.
  • Making a Splash: Several of his spells involve water. The most lethal one is creating flowers made of pure water more corrosive than acid.

Voiced by: Kenji Nojima (JP), Steve Staley (credited as Steve Cannon) (EN)

He acts and travels with RyĆ«ji, and they are able to attack in tandem. He was Yura's childhood friend, but now he seems like a completely different person. He sees yƍkai as a force of evil, and has even greater talent than Yura.

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/keikain_akifusa.jpg
Voiced by: Showtaro Morikubo (JP), Kaiji Tang (EN)

  • Child Prodigy: He crafted his first spirit blade when he was only 3 years old.
  • The Chosen Wannabe: He was once a potential candidate for the leadership of the Keikain household, but Yura was designated in his place because she was the one who could summon Hagun. This made jealousy grow inside him and gave birth to his dark desire that he can be better than Yura.

  • The Gift
  • It Was a Gift: Allows Nurarihyon to keep the Nenekirimaru. Though he does expect him to return it in the future since it is a onmyƍji weapon.
  • Know When to Fold 'Em:
    • He orders the other Keikain onmyƍji to retreat when Hagoromo Gitsune's strongest forces attack them because he knows they can't win against them.
    • The moment Tsuchigumo attacks, he says all they can do is run because not even he from the past could defeat the youkai, only seal him when the youkai got bored of rampaging. That Tsuchigumo can completely crush the Nura Clan's forces shows Hidemoto was right.
  • Necromancer: Like Yura he can use Hagun. Him learning it is what allowed him to become the Head and set the rule in place that the Heads can only be those who can use Hagun.
  • Nice Guy
  • Odd Friendship: An onmyouji befriended a youkai.
  • Sealed Evil in a Can: He has sealed away several powerful youkai to create a powerful barrier that prevented youkai from invading Kyoto. Two of which are Tsuchigumo and Gashadokuro.

  • The Empath: She tells Akifusa to take a break from forging the Nenekirimaru, as the area they are in has the highest concentration of Fear on Mount Osore and she's worried that he'll suffer like the blacksmiths before him if he doesn't. Also, during Rikuo's battle with Taisei, she heard the voices emanating from the Nenekirimaru.
  • Willing Channeler: She can allow a departed spirit to inhabit her body for a while. Hidemoto Keikain is summoned this way, when Ryuuji wanted to urgently speak with him concerning Seimei's "purification ritual".
