Main Characters

    Aphmau

Aphmau

Voiced By: Jessica Bravura

The protagonist, Aphmau is a cheerful, spunky, energetic girl.

  • Actor Allusion: Aphmau's voice actor, Jess, is married to Aaron's voice actor, Jason. In series, their characters are currently engaged.
  • Age-Gap Romance: Her romance with Aaron starts when she is 14/15 and he is 18/19 (she was in her first year of high school and he was a senior who was held back a year).
  • All-Loving Hero: It's hard to find someone who she doesn't at least tolerate, with the notable (and fully justified) exception of Ein.
  • Ambiguous Disorder: Has shown symptoms of PTSD after the events at the lodge and her separation from Aaron.
  • Ambiguously Bi: In one minigame, she mentions that she is not opposed to kissing a girl, and in some art she is shown having a boobie mousepad. She also implied she had kissed Katelyn in one QNA (though the canonical status of those videos is debated).
  • Animal-Eared Headband: To help cope with losing Aaron, she briefly wears a fake set of werewolf ears (and a tail) in Aphmau's Year Episode 4.
  • Armor-Piercing Response: Gives Aaron two rather personal ones while under a Forever Potion in Emerald Secret.
Aaron: Aph, I will always love you.
Aphmau: You never made me happy.
    Aaron: Please...
Aphmau The best thing you can do for me is die.
    • Gives him a kind one in the Starlight finale.
  • Brainwashed and Crazy: While under two Forever Potion in Emerald Secret.
  • Color Motif: Purple.
  • Cooldown Hug: Is on the receiving end of one (given by Aaron) in Emerald Secret's climax.
  • Cute Monster Girl: If you count werewolves as 'monsters' she becomes one in Starlight.
  • Cuteness Proximity: She fawns over anything (or anyone) even remotely adorable.
  • Deadpan Snarker: Downplayed, and it's not quite deadpan, but she has her moments.
  • Disappeared Dad: We don't even see her dad until The Stinger at the end of Emerald Secret, and although it's heavily implied, it isn't even confirmed it's him until almost halfway through Starlight. Prior to that, her father was never mentioned.
  • Dude Magnet: Whether it be her looks, or her kindness and upbeat personality, she has a knack for attracting guys wherever she goes -including those of the unsavory variety-right, Ein?
  • Eye Colour Change: Per their typical effects, her eyes turn green in Emerald Secret when affected by Forever Potions.
  • Healing Hands: As of the end of Aphmau's year, she can perform healing magic.
  • The Hecate Sisters: In Season 1, she forms this with her housemates; She is the Mother.
  • Heroic BSoD: After the events of Emerald Secret.
  • Launcher of a Thousand Ships: 98% of the show's characters have been shipped with her at some point.
  • Lethal Chef: Downplayed (as she's getting better) but her cooking is...not the best.
  • Living Emotional Crutch: Post-Emerald Secret, she and Aaron are this for each other.
  • Loved by All: It's hard to find a character who isn't at least tolerant of her. This doesn't always work in her favor, as we see with Ein.
  • Misery Builds Character: She becomes noticeably more mature after the incident at the lodge.
  • My Beloved Smother: As we see in Love~Love Paradise, Sylvanna's retained some of her controlling habits from Aphmau's high school days. Averted by the end of the season.
  • Odd Friendship: Her relationship with Zane in Season 1 appears this way at first, but we soon learn they are not so different.
  • Otaku: A Downplayed example, but she's very into anime, and cosplays at several points in the series.
  • Plot Hole: Her relationship with Travis is one of the series' biggest. They are introduced as if meeting for the first time in Season 1 but are canonically good friends from high school.
  • The Pollyanna: Tends to be bright, cheery and positive. Downplayed post-Emerald Secret.
  • Savvy Guy, Energetic Girl: With Aaron and Zane.
  • So Beautiful, It's a Curse: She has had more than 10 people express romantic interest in her over the series, including basically the entire male central cast. It's the source of pretty much all the major conflict in the whole series-from Ivy acting hostile due to her attraction to Garroth, to sexual rumors when she attended Falconclaw University, to Gene and especially Ein acting way out of line in their pursuit of her.
  • Stock Shoujo Heroine: Like a checklist for the trope.
  • Supernatural Gold Eyes: Her eyes are an amber-y color, and she's half-werewolf by birth, now full werewolf thanks to Aaron, and capable of healing magic.
  • Under the Mistletoe: Plays with this at numerous points in Season 1.
  • Walking Swimsuit Scene: Love~Love Paradise.
    • Also, maybe Starlight. That red getup might be a top and skirt or a two-piece swimsuit and matching cover-up.

    Aaron

Aaron Lycan

Voiced By: Jason Bravura

Aphmau's boyfriend and a pretty quiet young man.

  • Abusive Parents: He is a victim of abuse and neglect at the hands of Derek and Rachel, his parents.
  • Age-Gap Romance: His romance with Aphmau starts when she is 14/15 and he is 18/19 (she was in her fist year of high school and he was a senior who was held back a year).
  • Ambiguous Disorder: Like Aphmau, what went down at the lodge seems to have given him PTSD.
  • Ambiguously Brown: His race is never specified, and his skin tone changes between official art.
  • Berserk Button: Even saying Ein's name is enough to activate his powers.
  • Color Motif: Red.
  • Cooldown Hug: Gives one to Aphmau in Emerald Secret, and receives one from Kawaii~Chan in When Angels Fall.
  • Covered in Scars: After his climactic battle with Ein in Emerald Secret. Aphmau has been healing them with magic.
  • Dandere: Very much so. He also has shades of Sugar-and-Ice Personality.
  • Deadpan Snarker: The show's finest.
  • Despair Event Horizon: When he loses control over his powers and ends up murdering innocents in When Angels Fall.
  • Family Business: His father runs one, but he hasn't taken an active role in it.
  • I Am Not My Father: Aaron doesn't want to take after Derek. Sadly, he ends up killing people with his Ultima powers on accident, just like Derek did.
  • Jerk with a Heart of Gold: He can be sarcastic, abrasive, and brash, but damn if he isn't protective of those he loves.
  • Love Interest: Aphmau has several, but she's his main.
  • Mr. Fanservice: He has the odd tendency to be shirtless. Aphmau doesn't seem to mind.
  • Parental Substitute: His relationship with Agent R.
  • Red Eyes, Take Warning: As an Ultima, when he loses control of his emotions his eyes turn red and become capable of turning any human who looks at them into a werewolf, and the transformation is often fatal. Werewolves and Meif'was are naturally immune.
  • Savvy Guy, Energetic Girl: With Aphmau.
  • The Stoic: A justified example. If he loses control of his emotions, he might end up killing someone.
  • Sugar-and-Ice Personality: As mentioned above. He's often cold and standoffish, but once he gets to know someone, he loosens up significantly.
  • Symbolic Mutilation: He is blinded after killing people with his Ultima vision in When Angels Fall.
  • Tall, Dark, and Handsome: Tall is debatable, as he isn't noticeably taller than others, but otherwise, it's a bunch of big checks.
  • Troubled, but Cute: He's an Ultima, and the victim of parental neglect and military discipline, so this is kinda a given.
  • Walking Shirtless Scene: Season 1, Love~Love Paradise, and Starlight.
  • Walking Spoiler: Given his Ultima powers and all. Depending on where in the timeline you start, it can take several episodes to several seasons for you to figure it out.
  • You Can't Fight Fate: Despite trying his entire life to be a good person and prove to his father that he's not a monster despite being an Ultima, he ends up failing and losing control of his Ultima powers during When Angels Fall.

    Garroth

Garroth Ro'maeve

Voiced By: Andy Cowley

A dumb but lovable high school friend (and former love interest) of Aphmau's.

  • Accents Aren't Hereditary: His accent is different from the rest of his family for no apparent reason.
  • Ambiguously Bi: Some of his comments to Laurence and Blaze are suspect.
  • Berserk Button: Don't hurt Aph-or anyone else he cares about for that reason.
  • Childhood Friend: He and his brothers are this to Aphmau, and they likely knew Katelyn and Aaron in their youth, along with Micheal's son, due to the forever Potion experiments.
  • Chronic Hero Syndrome: Seems to have developed a habit of throwing himself into dangerous situations.
  • Cloudcuckoolander: His way of thinking is pretty strange.
  • Cock Fight: Often with Laurance in Season 1, over Aphmau. Usually in jest.
  • Color Motif: Blue and, to a lesser extent, Gold.
  • The Ditz: Definitely.
  • Dumb Blond: He's not stupid, but he's not the sharpest tool in the shed.
  • Dumb Muscle: He's not the brightest, and very strong, which is only amplified by the Forever Potion he's under.
  • Family Business: Like Aaron, his father runs one, but he hasn't taken an active part in running it.
  • Guinea Pig Family: His father tested Forever Potions on him at a young age.
  • Hair of Gold, Heart of Gold: He is really sweet and blond.
  • Heterosexual Life-Partners: With Laurence.
  • Ho Yay: Has a bit of it with Laurence and Blaze. in one episode he refers to Laurence as hot and even kissed him on one occasion (though on accident). As for Blaze, he calls him his 'bro', and Blaze lays in his lap at one point.
  • Innocent Blue Eyes: Kind, extroverted, and bright blue eyes.
  • I Want My Beloved to Be Happy: He gives Aphmau and Aaron his blessing despite his attraction toward her.
  • The Lancer: To Aaron in Emerald Secret.
  • Misplaced Accent: Speaks with his voice actor's natural British accent. It sounds...rather out of place.
  • Red Oni, Blue Oni: The boisterous, cheerful Red Oni to his brother Zane's more quiet and subdued Blue Oni.
  • Running Gag: Breaking doors.
  • Ship Tease: With Aphmau...not that he had a chance.
    • Also gets a little with Kim in later seasons.
  • Super-Strength: Thanks to his Forever Potions, he's supernaturally strong and tough.

    Katelyn

Katelyn

Voiced By: Lizzy Hofe

A brash but well-meaning young lady, and Aphmau's former housemate.

  • Action Girl: She's very capable of defending herself.
  • Affectionate Nickname: A couple of characters, most notably Travis, call her 'Blueberry'.
  • Badass Bystander: An interesting variant. She's certainly a badass, but she was absent for the only action-oriented season so far, Emerald Secret, meaning she hasn't actually gotten the chance to be in combat.
  • Becoming the Mask: She gains feelings for Travis in Starlight after pretending to be his girlfriend for the sake of his father.
  • Beta Couple: She and Travis could be seen as one to Aphmau and Aaron.
  • Blue Is Heroic: She's heroic, and blue is her Color Motif.
  • Broken Masquerade: Zigzagged. She's aware Aaron is a werewolf, but not that he's an Ultima, and she doesn't know he turned Aphmau.
  • Color Motif: Light Blue.
  • Curtains Match the Window: Blue hair and eyes.
  • Fantastic Racism: She shows some reprehension after learning Aaron is a Werewolf. Given a werewolf put her younger brother in the hospital while he was a high school freshman, this is somewhat justified.
  • Guinea Pig Family: Was the subject of Forever Potion experiments at the hands of her own mother.
  • Hair-Trigger Temper: She has anger management issues, but she's been getting progressively calmer.
  • The Hecate Sisters: In Season 1, she forms this with her housemates; She is the Crone.
  • Heterosexual Life-Partners: With Aphmau, and less noticeably, Kawaii~Chan.
  • Informed Poverty: Her family was said to be not very well off, despite her mother being a Witch and Micheal's compatriot as well as a doctor, and her father a pro wrestler.
  • Love at First Punch: She and Travis play with this a little.
  • Missing Mom: We've only seen her mother in a handful of episodes. Considering she had been trapped in an alternate dimension, this is justified.
  • Mysterious Parent: We've rarely heard about her mother, and for a good reason.
  • Passionate Sports Girl: She gives everything her all, not just her athletics. Volleyball is a particular favorite of hers.
  • Red Oni, Blue Oni: In reverse of their color schemes, she's the passionate Red to her friend & business partner Nicole's more subdued Blue.
  • Shy Blue-Haired Girl: Subverted. Katelyn is many things, but 'shy' sure isn't one of them.
  • Super-Strength: As a result of the Forever Potion that was administered to her as a child.
  • Tsundere: Type 1 for Travis.

    Kawaii~Chan

Kawaii~Chan / Nana Ishida

Voiced By: MegaMoeka

She's a sweet Meif'wa girl, and one of Aphmau's original housemates. She's known for her kindness and her involvement in shipping, especially her friends.

  • All Girls Want Bad Boys: She's currently in a relationship with Zane, of all people.
  • Broken Masquerade: Zane gives her the full story of what happened at the lodge a few months after the fact. Thankfully, she's kept her mouth shut.
  • Cat Girl: She is the main cast's only Meif'wa if you exclude Michi.
  • Coffin Contraband: A less morbid variant. Zane smuggled her into Starlight Wonderland in a ginormous pink suitcase.
  • Color Motif: Pink.
  • Cooldown Hug: Gives one to Aaron in When Angels Falls
  • Cuteness Proximity: Anything adorable can put her in a tizzy. So can her beloved ships.
  • The Cutie: Have you seen the rest of this list?
  • French Maid Outfit: She wears one pretty often, seeing as she runs a maid café.
  • Genki Girl: Kawaii~Chan is very high-energy.
  • Has a Type: All the guys she's been in a relationship with have had blue eyes, and most have been voiced by Kestin Howard.
  • The Hecate Sisters: In Season 1, she forms this with her housemates; She is the Maiden.
  • I Just Want to Be Special: What seems like eccentricity is actually a bad case of this. In Starlight, she confesses to Zane that she felt constantly outshined by her eleven siblings, so she began to act more 'unique' to get noticed.
  • Little Bit Beastly: Given her Meif'wa heritage, this is a given.
  • Love Confession: Manages to squeeze one out to Zane in Starlight. It's returned.
  • Maid Cafe: She opens one with Aphmau in Lover's Lane.
  • Massively Numbered Siblings: She has eleven.
  • Meaningful Name: 'Kawaii' is Japanese for 'cute', which she definitely is. Her real name, 'Nana', translates to 'seven', which implies she is the seventh-born of her siblings.
  • Meido: In Season 1, she lands a job at a Maid Café, and in Lover's Lane she opens one with Aphmau.
  • Only Known by Their Nickname: Zane is the only person who calls her by her real name, Nana, and even then it's only quietly or in private.
  • Opposites Attract: The kind, upbeat and extroverted Kawaii~Chan falls for the sardonic, angsty, and introverted Zane..
  • Pink Is Feminine: She's very girly, and pink is her Color Motif.
  • The Pollyanna: Kawaii~Chan is a cute, excitable, and cheerful catgirl whose Color Motif is pink. Practically the embodiment of this trope.
  • Rose-Haired Sweetie: She is one of the sweetest characters in the series (Albeit a bit creepy when her ships are involved). It's unknown how much of her cute and girly persona is an act, but her kindness is definitely genuine.
  • Shipper on Deck: Pretty much her defining character trait for the first few seasons.
  • Supernatural Gold Eyes: Her eyes are a bright orangy-yellow, and she technically isn't human.
  • Sweet Tooth: She LOVES her sugary desserts.
  • Third-Person Person: She always calls herself 'Kawaii~Chan'. It's part of her cutesy persona. When she drops the act, she used first-person pronouns.
  • Token Minority: An in-universe variant. She's the only Meif'wa in the main cast.
  • Walking Spoiler: It's hard to talk about her without revealing her real name and personality as of late.
  • Yandere: According to Word of God, she was originally meant to be this, and you can see traces of it in Season 1.

    Zane

Zane Ro'Maeve

Voiced By: Kestin Howard

Garroth's angsty but kindhearted younger brother. Initially antagonistic to the others, he soon comes into the fold thanks to the Power of Friendship...and some pastel ponies.

    Laurance

Laurance

Voiced By: Sebastian Todd

Garroth's best friend with his own dreams of becoming Aphmau's boyfriend.

  • Commuting on a Bus: Laurance is chronically absent from important points in the story. He's almost completely absent in Seasons 2, 4, 5, and 6, and barely shows up in between. While this does have some justification based on the "source material" of MCD, it's still slightly ridiculous. Often joked about by Jessica and Jason outside of the series.

    Dante

Dante

Voiced By: Kestin Howard

Laurance and Garroth's slightly more level-headed housemate, and Travis's best friend.

  • Age Lift: Sort of. In MCD, where his character originated, he was almost two decades older than many other main characters due to a fifteen-year time skip. Here, no such time skip occurs, keeping him in the same age range as his peers.
  • Character Focus: He gets his own arc about his relationship troubles during Love~Love Paradise.
  • The Corrupter: Played for Laughs. His flirty behavior when he was young is the reason Travis is the way he is.
  • Curtains Match the Window: Blue hair and eyes.
  • Heterosexual Life-Partners: With Travis.
  • Love Triangle: Him, Nicole, and Jenna get into one in Love~Love Paradise.
  • Nervous Wreck: He's not the most courageous guy around, especially when it comes to his feelings.
  • Nice Guy: He's genuinely friendly and sweet.
  • Put on a Bus: He's got almost zero plot relevance-once the actual plot gets going.
  • Thicker Than Water: His brother Gene's done some pretty boneheaded stuff, but Dante still loves him and wants the best for him, in stark contrast to their relationship in Diaries.

    Travis

Travis Valkrum

Voiced By: Patrick M. Seymour

He's our womanizer. He's bad at it.

  • Adaptational Angst Upgrade: Inverted. While his Diaries counterpart is positively brimming with angst, he's a lot more cheerful here.
  • Butt-Monkey: Katelyn sure beats him up a lot.
  • Casanova Wannabe: Oh boy he is quite the flirt. He mellows out over time...but it's not really told why? It just happens...and it catches everyone off-guard.
  • Lust: In earlier episodes, he's...not the most respectful of the girls he hits on. Don't worry, he gets better with time.

    Lucinda

Lucinda

Voiced By: Anairis Quiñones

A witch who knew the rest of the gang in high school.

  • Ambiguously Bi: Her relationship with Kim in Emerald Secret, and her relationship with Melissa in When Angels Fall. And before those two she dated a warlock named Ivan.
  • The Magic Goes Away: At the end of When Angels Fall.

    Kim

Kim

Voiced By: Corinne Sudberg

A meek young woman who joins the gang on their trip to the lodge.

  • Shrinking Violet: She was the embodiment of this trope during Phoenix Drop High Season 2 and for the beginning of Emerald Secret. However, as the series progressed, she sort of lost this as she became more outgoing and confident.
  • Symbiotic Possession: Her and Ghost/Emmalyn.

    Ghost

Ghost / Emmalyn

Voiced By: Corinne Sudberg, Michelle Marie (as Emmalyn)

A long-dead woman who possesses Kim in season 4.

  • Ghost Amnesia: she can't remember her past life.
  • Our Ghosts Are Different: She became a ghost after she split her soul in an attempt to bring her husband back from the dead.
  • Stalker with a Crush: She is obsessed with Zane, following him around, trying to sabotage his romantic relationship, and even kissing him against his will. Her obsession stems from the fact that he is all that she can remember from her past life, and she believes he was he lover ( the person Zane is a reincarnation of was actually the one who killed her husband).
  • Symbiotic Possession: While she originally possesses Kim against her will, they end up working together.

Minor Characters

    Guy

Guy

Voiced By: Cole Petty

Love-Love Paradise Resort's tour guide and captain of the S.S Gate.

  • Camp Gay: He has a very flamboyant attitude and talks with a deep but undeniably camp voice.

Villains

    Ein

Ein

Voiced By: Christopher Escalante

The main antagonist of Phoenix Drop High Season 2 and Emerald Secret.

  • Asshole Victim: Twice. When he gets mauled by his former werewolf pack in Emerald Secret, and when Aaron in his Ultima form kills Ein in When Angels Fall. Judging from everything he has done in the past, it's difficult to feel even a tiny bit sorry for him.
  • Big Bad: In Emerald Secret.
  • Fantastic Racism: He sees humans as inferior to werewolves.
  • Freudian Excuse: In When Angels Fall, it is revealed that Zack hated Ein from birth and preferred Aphmau over him. This doesn't excuse all of the stuff that he did in the past.
  • Hated by All: Most of the characters either despise him or are using him for personal gain.
  • Hate Sink: After everything he's done and gotten away with, it felt rather satisfying to watch him die.
  • Knight of Cerebus: Hoo boy. He is the first character introduced that causes real danger, causing the series to completely lose its happy vibe.
  • Long-Lost Relative: We find out in When Angels Fall, that Ein is Aphmau's half-brother. It is also revealed that Zack hated Ein from birth and preferred Aphmau over him.
  • The Sociopath: He is manipulative, obsessed with control, and doesn't care about anyone but himself. Need I say more?

    Elizabeth

Elizabeth

Voiced By: Tiana Camacho

A scientist and witch working for Micheal.

  • Long-Lost Relative: She is Katelyn's mom. She was imprisoned for most of her daughter's life, and only managed to escape sometime around Emerald Secret.
