Main Characters

    Sponge
The player character. He is the perpetually depressed third Mario brother who is sent to get meat for their spaghetti.
  • Abnormal Ammo: Early on in the Duck Cavern, Sponge gains the ability to use his tears as projectiles if he eats a cryberry. Winning against Mr. Dink/Ringo Starr lets him use his tears permanently.
  • Beyond the Impossible: Invoked by the narration before the start of the shoot-em-up section, which asks if Sponge will be able to "overcome his unending sadness and do the impossible". Sponge succeeds in doing the impossible by reaching the top of Rizon Fortress, the tallest fortress in the universe, but he managed to become more miserable than he already was due to his failure to rescue Princess Bleach.
  • Bond One-Liner: "I'm not happy" — Said after defeating the UN Squadron segment as a parody of the victory screen.
  • Cosmic Plaything: As per usual, Sponge is unable to finish his adventure without some cruel twist imposed on him. In this case, it's three twists — Bunji eats the meat he had been sent to retrieve, Sponge's quest is rendered pointless to begin with after Mario and Luigi reveal they can't even eat meat, and Meat eats Princess Bleach after she died waiting for Sponge to rescue her.
  • Forced Transformation: When he's transported to an upside-down location after hitting the rewind block, Sponge is turned into a Meat version of himself. When clearing the stage, he turns back to normal.
  • Full-Frontal Assault: As a side effect of transforming into a Meat creature, Sponge loses his clothes, exposing his nether regions.
  • I Let Gwen Stacy Die: It's implied that Sponge blames himself for not saving Princess Bleach on time, as Sponge hangs his head in despair after the final battle.
  • Perpetual Frowner: All of his sprites have him frowning. After defeating the final Meat boss, instead of celebrating, Sponge simply hangs his head in despair, as he failed to rescue Princess Bleach.
  • Unexplained Recovery: How he survived dying twice in the Hell section is never hinted upon.
  • Vengeance Feels Empty: At the end of the game, Sponge hangs his head in despair, indicating that killing Meat after he swallowed Princess Bleach's corpse didn't give him any satisfaction.
  • Yank the Dog's Chain:
    • After defeating the weenie boss inside the plate of pasta, Sponge obtains the titular meat...only for Bunji to steal and eat it. To twist the knife in, Sponge later learns that Mario and Luigi can't even eat meat.
    • At the end of the game, Sponge finally locates Princess Bleach, stated to be the only person that can overcome Sponge's unending sadness... only to realize that she isn't moving.

    Meat
The titular antagonist of the hack. It is a giant earthworm that devours worlds, and Sponge must escape from its insides.
  • Adaptational Villainy: Downplayed, as there are multiple versions of Meat in this fangame and only one of them shows overt villainy. They're normally portrayed as a neutral or helpful character in other Vinesauce fangames and art, but here, Meat is a sinister, world-devouring Eldritch Abomination that appears to be the guiding force behind vineRizon's plans, and eats Princess Bleach right in front of Sponge.
  • Ambiguous Gender: Meat's actual gender was never brought up in the game proper and yet we see smaller versions of it running amok on the worlds Meat has eaten. Justified since Earthworms are hermaphroditic in real life, meaning that they can reproduced without a partner and Meat does resemble an Earthworm, if Earthworms can swallow planets whole and have a face that borders on Uncanny Valley.
  • Bedmate Reveal: In Bad End 1, Sponge, after seemingly falling to his doom, wakes up in bed... and sees a Meat worm from the dream next to him.
  • Big Bad Ensemble: With vineRizon. It is the creature that swallowed Sponge, and after Sponge fails to get the titular mystery meat due to Bunji eating it, the main goal of the game is to escape, something it tries to impede.
  • Eldritch Abomination: It is a giant earthworm with a freaky-looking, uncanny valley face and the ability to eat entire worlds, and it has several smaller versions of itself inside its body that serve as a Hive Mind.
  • Final Boss: A smaller version of it serves as the last enemy before escaping.
  • Gratuitous Foreign Language: One location consists of many Meat worms singing the Hong Kong '97 theme song on loop, which is in Chinese. This is also Meat's only directly spoken dialogue in the game.
  • Hive Mind: It has several smaller versions of itself in its body which it seems to control.
  • Kick the Dog: At the end of the game, instead of eating Princess Bleach right away, Meat waits until Sponge sees her remains before feasting on her.
  • Malevolent Mugshot: The worlds inside Meat have statues of it plastered everywhere.
  • Mother of a Thousand Young: Some of the enemies in the game look like either just smaller versions of Meat or be Mix-and-Match Critters of it and some other animal.
  • One-Winged Angel: Meat's second form is that of its normal worm head atop a bipedal, armless dinosaur-like body that still distinctly has worm-like segments.
  • Stationary Boss: Meat's first phase is affixed to the right side of the screen and attacks from there, though it does rise up after taking some damage to become more challenging to hit. The second phase is far more mobile, however.
  • Swallowed Whole:
    • Near the beginning of the game, the giant Meat swallows Sponge alive.
    • In the final battle, Meat makes his entrance by swallowing Princess Bleach's corpse.
  • Turns Red: During the Final Boss against it, in the final phase, its eyes glow and its movements and attacks become more erratic.

    Princess Bleach (spoilers)
A princess who was kidnapped by vineRizon.
  • Back for the Dead: Somehow, Princess Bleach was resurrected offscreen, just so she can die again while waiting for Sponge.
  • Damsel in Distress: She was kidnapped by vineRizon and is being held at his Rizon Fortress.
  • Dead All Along: At the end of the game, Sponge finally reaches her, only to discover her dead. Just to twist the knife in, Meat swallows her corpse.
  • Disney Death: Subverted. The scene where Sponge finds her corpse is played like one, but she doesn't wake up. To remove any doubt of this, Meat swallows her corpse.
  • History Repeats: One again, Princess Bleach dies waiting for Sponge to rescue her.
  • Killed Offscreen: Sometime in-between her introduction and Sponge getting to the top of Rizon Fortress, Princess Bleach died though unknown circumstances. A throwaway line by Vinny implies she passed away by the time Sponge hit the Rewind Block in the second Will Smith section.
  • Rescue Romance: The narration before the start of the shoot-em-up section implies that, had Sponge rescued Princess Bleach before it was too late, she would've done this to overcome Sponge's unending sadness.
  • Save the Princess: The second half of the game focuses on Sponge's quest to rescue Princess Bleach from Rizon Fortress.
  • Swallowed Whole: After dying though unknown circumstances, Meat swallows her corpse.
  • Unexplained Recovery: How Princess Bleach came back from her canon death is never explained.
  • We Hardly Knew Ye: She only makes one physical appearance before dying offscreen. She doesn't even have any lines.

    The Kidnapper (spoilers)

vineRizon

A giant, blocky head with a gigantic forehead that kidnapped Princess Bleach and imprisoned her in his fortress.

  • Big Bad Ensemble: With Meat. He is the one who kidnapped Princess Bleach, and saving her is the secondary goal.
  • Forehead of Doom: He has one that seemingly stretches out to infinity, and his minions and monuments take after his appearance.
  • Karma Houdini: He doesn't receive any comeuppance for kidnapping Princess Bleach.
  • Malevolent Mugshot: He has statues of himself everywhere in the devoured world, and even his minions are modeled after himself.
  • The Unfought: A downplayed example, as airships in his likeness do have a boss battle. However, despite being the one who captures Princess Bleach in the first place, vineRizon himself is never seen or mentioned again (even in the form of his Mecha-Mooks) after the end of the first Rizon Fortress section.
  • Walking Spoiler: While his presence is foreshadowed, it is not until The Very Definitely Final Dungeon that he is revealed as the kidnapper of Princess Bleach.
  • What Happened to the Mouse?: He's never seen again after communicating with Sponge at the start of the Rizon Fortress section.

Others

    Mario
The first of the three Mario brothers. Since him and Luigi are busy saving the world, he only makes a physical appearance in the halfway point of the game, despite the game being named after him.
  • Body Horror: At the end of the Hell segment, one of the three Mario's have two heads merged together.
  • The Ghost: Subverted. After being absent for the first half of the game, both him and Luigi are interviewed by Mario's Early Years: Preschool Fun Voiceover for their thoughts on cock-and-ball torture.
  • Hero of Another Story: While Sponge is having his misadventure, him and Luigi are saving the world offscreen.
  • Inexplicably Identical Individuals: There are a total of twelve Mario's in the game. The real Mario is saving the world offscreen, and is interviewed about his thoughts on cock-and-ball torture at the halfway point of the game, the Mario from the 'Mario Pissing' video urinates in the pit Sponge is trapped in, three Mario's in the area where Sponge dies for the second time in the Hell segment, and seven Mario's are dancing in the 'Sicko Mode' room.
  • Me's a Crowd: In the 'Sicko Mode' room, seven Mario's are dancing to the music.
  • Real Men Love Jesus: He brings up Jesus Christ when discouraging cock-and-ball torture.
  • Rubber-Hose Limbs: At the end of the Hell segment, one of the three Mario's have very long arms that are stretched to form a circle on each side.
  • Urine Trouble: The Mario from the 'Mario Pissing' video saves Sponge from a pit by filling it up with piss, allowing Sponge to swim out of the pit.
  • Wham Line: While being interviewed about their thoughts on cock-and-ball torture, he tries to calm Luigi down by telling him that "We can't even eat meat."
  • Wolverine Publicity: Though his name appears in the title, he's too busy saving the world to accompany Sponge in his quest. He only appears in a single scene, where both him and Luigi are interviewed by Mario's Early Years: Preschool Fun Voiceover for their thoughts on cock-and-ball torture.

    Luigi
The second of the three Mario brothers. Since him and Mario are busy saving the world, he only makes a physical appearance in the halfway point of the game.
  • Big "NO!": He shouts "Mario(,) noooo!" after discovering that Terminal 6 brain cancer doesn't let him eat meat, thanks to his new diet.
  • Freak Out: Though he wasn't mentally stable beforehand, he suddenly becomes hostile when Mario tells him they can't eat meat, with the text of his last two words turning red, and he shouts "Ooohhhh... Mario! Mario(,) noooo!" when Mario further explains that Terminal 6 brain cancer doesn't let him eat meat, thanks to his new diet.
  • The Ghost: Subverted. After being absent for the first half of the game, both him and Mario are interviewed by Mario's Early Years: Preschool Fun Voiceover for their thoughts on cock-and-ball torture.
  • Handicapped Badass: Nothing suggests that his Terminal 6 brain cancer affects his quest to save the world.
  • Hero of Another Story: While Sponge is having his misadventure, him and Mario are saving the world offscreen.
  • Jaw Drop: At the end of the Hell segment, the two Luigi's have their jaws dropped down to the top of his torso.
  • Madness Mantra: He reacts to being asked about cock-and-ball torture by saying "YEET that MEAT! MEAT MEAT MEAT MEAT MEAT MEAT MEAT MEAT MEAT MEAT MEAT MEAT MEAT MEAT MEAT MEAT MEAT."
  • Red Eyes, Take Warning: Averted. During the CBT interview, Luigi's eyes turn red with green pupils whenever he speaks, implied to be a side-effect from having Terminal 6 brain cancer. While he does have a Freak Out, he never attempts to attack anyone during the scene.
  • Rubber-Hose Limbs: At the end of the Hell segment, the two Luigi's have their arm stretched at an impossible angle.
  • Sanity Slippage: By the events of the game, Luigi is visibly unhinged due to his Terminal 6 brain cancer. When asked on his thoughts on cock-and-ball torture, he starts shouting "MEAT" in rapid succession, and then freaks out when Mario informs him that Terminal 6 brain cancer doesn't let him eat meat, thanks to his new diet.
  • Say My Name: He shouts "Mario! Mario(,) noooo!" after discovering that Terminal 6 brain cancer doesn't let him eat meat, thanks to his new diet.

    Daksu
A strange fusion of five animals guarding a closet leading deeper into Meat's insides, and a lover of pop quiz.
  • Be Careful What You Wish For: If Sponge chooses "Let me in" when taking the quiz, this prompts Daksu to say "Over my dead body." They immediately die, letting Sponge literally pass over their dead body.
  • Body Horror: They're a duck-shaped amalgamation of five animals (four ducks: Molly, Bill, Freckles, and Ketchup, and Apple the hamster) from Animal Crossing: New Leaf.
  • Multiple Head Case: Their body is entirely made up of the faces of Molly, Bill, Freckles, Ketchup, and Apple. They even ask Sponge "How many faces do I have?"

    Mr. Dink
One of two people mentioned by Daksu. If you say he is fatter, he will appear as the first boss.
  • Angrish: After Sponge breaks Mr. Dink's grill, he spews out gibberish until he realizes that Sponge isn't Doug.
  • Berserk Button: Breaking Mr. Dink's grill turns him into a rambling, incoherent mess.
  • Easily Forgiven: He quickly gets over his frustration of Sponge popping out of his expensive spaghetti.
  • Mistaken Identity: He confuses Sponge for Doug. It isn't until Sponge breaks Mr. Dink's grill and rages that he realize his mistake.
  • Nice Guy: Despite his initial anger of Sponge popping out of his expensive spaghetti, he's nothing but friendly to Sponge, offering him a seat. Though breaking his grill quickly changes his tone.
  • Turns Red: When you break Mr. Dink's grill, he turns into his infamous green werewolf form and "Megalovania" starts to play, letting you know it's going to be a tough fight. Subverted as the whole "battle" against him is scripted, though, so you were not in much danger to begin with.
  • Warmup Boss: He is one of two potential first bosses, the other being Ringo Starr.
  • Zero-Effort Boss: Mr. Dink doesn't even attempt to harm you, even when he Turns Red.

    Ringo Starr
One of two people mentioned by Daksu. If you say he is fatter, he will appear as the first boss.
  • Disproportionate Retribution: When Sponge meets Ringo at the restaurant, he pops out of his plate of spaghetti, which is a good enough reason for the former Beatles member to pull a gun on him.
  • Hypocritical Humor: His parting words after Sponge's encounter with him are "Peace and love," despite the fact he robbed the plumber at gunpoint for ruining his dinner.
  • Secret Test of Character: If Sponge gives him his hat, he claims the whole thing was a test and he passed, signs the hat and gives it back before leaving.
  • Warmup Boss: He is one of two potential first bosses, the other being Mr. Dink.
  • Zero-Effort Boss: Like Mr. Dink, Ringo Starr doesn't even attempt to hurt you. This is an even greater example, as his "battle" only lasts for one turn.

Mario's Early Years: Preschool Fun Voiceover
The voiceover from the Mario edutainment game makes an appearance here. Though initially benevolent like her original self, she quickly shows a stranger side.
  • Adaptational Jerkass: She outright tells Sponge that he sucks when he is unavoidably killed near the end of her section.
  • Adaptational Villainy: She is far from the benevolent voiceover from the original game, even sending Sponge to Hell and finding sadistic pleasure after Sponge is killed by a swarm of Meats.
  • Advancing Wall of Doom: She attempts to kill Sponge with a wall of flames. She succeeds.
  • Blue-and-Orange Morality: Subverted. Thanks to her cheerful demeanor, her ominous comments seem to be Innocently Insensitive, and she seems to think she's helping Sponge. However, her final line has her drop the act and gloat that Sponge sucks, making it clear that she's fully aware of her actions.
  • Bread, Eggs, Milk, Squick: One of her messages in-between the mini-games has her state "Let's stomp your fingers, fingers, fingers, fingers, face, cock!"
  • Depraved Kids' Show Host: Throughout the preschool section, she zig-zigzags from narrating the mini-game to making ominous comments. She eventually asks Mario and Luigi their opinion on CBT (cock-and-ball torture).
  • Discredited Meme: She invokes this In-Universe in one segment of the preschool section, where she asks the player to show her "the opposite of funny," with the options being the head of Mario from the 'Mario Pissing' video with the caption "PISS" under it and the head of Jay Leno.
  • Dissonant Serenity: She always speaks in the same cheerful tone, even when she declares that her and Sponge will go to Hell, and when she gloats that Sponge sucks.
  • Everyone Has Standards: Despite her deranged sense of humor, she doesn't believe that Jay Leno is funny.
  • Evil All Along: Though she did make ominous comments beforehand, the moment where she recites the Number of the Beast is when it's revealed she's malicious. Later, she reveals herself to be sadistic when she gloats that Sponge sucks after sending him to his death twice.
  • Evil Gloating: She gloats that Sponge sucks after he's slain by a swarm of Meats.
  • Evil Is Petty:
    • She torments Sponge by forcing him to participate in mini-games while threatening him in-between games.
    • After Sponge dies for the first time in Hell, she forces Sponge to watch Mario and Luigi give their thoughts on cock-and-ball torture And the reveal that They can't even eat meat, meaning Sponge's quest was meaningless.
    • After Sponge dies for the second time in Hell, she tells Sponge that he sucks.
  • Faux Affably Evil: Her cheerful and friendly demeanor seems genuine at first, but her final line, where she gloats that Sponge sucks, shows it's all an act.
  • Fingore: One of her messages in-between the mini-games has her tell Sponge to stomp his fingers.
  • For the Evulz: As her final line reveals, she attempted to mentally break Sponge by forcing him to partake in her mini-games, threatening him, and sending him to his own personalized Hell, solely because she wanted to convince him that he sucks.
  • The Fourth Wall Will Not Protect You: One of her messages in-between the mini-games has her proclaim "I found you!".
  • Get Out!: Her first message in-between the mini-games has her tell Sponge to "Go back! Go back!" implying that she wants the player to close the game.
  • Giant Space Flea from Nowhere: There is absolutely no buildup or foreshadowing to her introduction, and she's never heard from again after Sponge wakes up in Chat City. Her setting up the reveal that Mario and Luigi are incapable of eating meat is her only impact to the plot.
  • Groin Attack:
    • One of her messages in-between the mini-games has her tell Sponge to stomp his cock.
    • During the Hell segment, she asks Mario and Luigi their opinion on CBT.
  • Innocently Insensitive: Subverted. A lot of her comments seem to be ominous only because she's corrupted, and are actually failed attempts at encouragement. However, her final line has her gloat that Sponge sucks, making it clear she was deliberately attempting to enrage Sponge all along.
  • Irrational Hatred: She doesn't have any particular reason to hate Sponge.
  • Karma Houdini: She receives no punishment for sending Sponge to Hell, as well as telling him that he sucks after Sponge is killed by a swarm of Meats.
  • Kick the Dog: She tells Sponge that he sucks after the latter is slain for the second time.
  • Mask of Sanity: She may act like her friendly counterpart in the original game, but it turns out she's a complete sadist.
  • Nightmare Fetishist: She's very enthusiastic on going to Hell with Sponge.
  • Not-So-Harmless Villain: She seems like a corrupted, but otherwise friendly voiceover right up until she sends Sponge to Hell, where Sponge dies. Twice.
  • Number of the Beast: When the player clicks on the blocks, she begins counting them... and when she gets to six, she repeats it twice.
  • Psychological Torment Zone: The Hell that she created is one for Sponge, as uses Mario and Luigi, whom overshadow Sponge in popularity, as terrain.
  • Psychopathic Manchild: She has a very immature sense of humor, as she forces Sponge to play preschool mini-games, tells Sponge to stomp his cock, states that the 'Mario Pissing' video is funny, and asks Mario and Luigi their opinion on CBT. She's also a sadist who threatens Sponge, sends him to Hell, and finds sadistic pleasure after Sponge is killed by a swarm of Meats, gloating that Sponge sucks.
  • Reality Warper: She's implied to be one, as she, among other accomplishments, sends Sponge to his own personalized Hell.
  • Small Role, Big Impact: She appears without buildup after Bunji eats Sponge's meat and is never heard from again after Sponge wakes up in Chat City. However, her interview with Mario and Luigi reveals that they're incapable of eating meat.
  • Stepford Smiler: Despite what the cheerful and friendly demeanor indicates, she's completely insane and loathes Sponge.
  • Story-Breaker Power: In her screentime, she effortlessly sends Sponge to his death twice. Naturally, she goes missing in action after the Hell segment ends.
  • Unsportsmanlike Gloating: After Sponge is killed by a swarm of Meats, she tells Sponge that he sucks.
  • The Voice: Much like in the original game, she never appears in person.
  • What Happened to the Mouse?: She's never heard from again after Sponge wakes up in Chat City. Also, the unknown being that she states is "listening" is never alluded to again.

    Will Smith
Partway through Rizon Fortress, Will Smith "logs in" in an attempt to hinder Sponge's progress.
  • Eldritch Location: He takes over Rizon Fortress and all of the enemies and locations end up modeled after him. At one point, the "Woll Smoth" tiny-eyed, tiny-mouthed meme version of him is used as a background tile.
  • Giant Space Flea from Nowhere: There is absolutely no buildup or foreshadowing to Will Smith's introduction. After Sponge hit the Rewind Block, he's never heard from again.
  • Karma Houdini: He doesn't receive any comeuppance for attempting to hinder Sponge's progress.
  • Malevolent Mugshot: Upon logging into the game, the windows of the fortress become pictures of Will Smith's face.
  • Perpetual Smiler: All of his pictures and head duplicates are smiling.
  • Reality Warper: Through sheer willpower alone, he logs into the game, changes the fortress into his own image, summons several duplicates of his head to attack Sponge, and places a block that reverses gravity.
  • What Happened to the Mouse?: Like most characters in the game, he's never seen again after his segment ends. In fact, the fortress shows no further sign of being controlled by Will Smith.
