The Player and Companions

     Roy Temperance

     Innocence Smith
A young teenager who was conscripted into Aurora's army to fight in the war against Abundance, eventually being captured and sent to P.O.W. Camp 19 where he meets Roy. Innocence serves as the narrator of the game, capturing the adventures of Roy and himself in his personal diary or "war log".
  • Child Soldiers: Was conscripted along with many other Aurora children. The fact that Aurora uses Child Soldiers is brought up in The Technomancer by Abundance citizens when discussing how terrible their military rival is.
  • Conveniently an Orphan: Upon returning to Aurora at the beginning of Act II, Innocence discovers his parents were arrested and most likely executed during The Purge. This prompts him to seek out and join La Résistance.
  • Decoy Protagonist: He's the game's narrator and the opening movie makes it seem like he's going to be the player character, until Roy comes along and saves Innocence from a gang intent on Prison Rape.
  • Naïve Newcomer: He's a young teen who had very little exposure to the world outside his middle-class neighborhood until he got conscripted.

     Mary
An Abundance technomancer and the apprentice of Sean, the technomancer overseer of Camp 19.
  • Cloudcuckoolander: She has a very strange, child-like personality due to her upbringing.
  • Do You Want to Copulate?: Due to a really screwed-up upbringing, she thinks that sex is something that's expected of her rather than something that's meant to be part of a relationship. The first thing she does upon deciding to become Roy's apprentice is offer to start sleeping with him (if you don't want to be a creep, you can turn her down and explain that sex isn't an obligation but rather part of a healthy relationship).
  • Squishy Wizard: While most technomancers seem to be Magic Knights, Mary is very much a Squishy Wizard, as she fights only with technomancy spells instead of using both spells and a melee weapon like other technomancers do. As such she can dish out good damage but goes down quite quickly, especially when mobbed by multiple enemies.

     Tenacity Williams
A ruthless and amoral bounty hunter who is hired by Generosity, the leader of the Aurora Technomancers, to hunt down and kill Roy Temperance.
  • Defeat Equals Friendship: After Roy hurts him enough in combat, he'll surrender and offer to join Roy, reasoning that if he goes back to the Technomancers emptyhanded they'll kill him for failing to kill Roy.
  • Made of Iron: Along with Generosity, he has the most health of any of the human enemies in the game. However, he surrenders after losing only about half of his health, so the fight with him isn't that tough.
  • Mook Chivalry: He'll conveniently stand back and let his two dogs fight you; only after you kill both his dogs does he actually bother to attack you himself.
  • Token Evil Teammate: He's the most morally dubious potential companion, being an amoral bounty hunter.
  • Walking Shirtless Scene: He's shirtless underneath his Badass Longcoat, though it's not very Fanservicey since he's middle-aged and also quite hirsute.

     Devotion
  • Cain and Abel: Generosity, the Technomancer leader, turns out to be her brother. If you bring her with you when you go to confront Generosity, she'll plead with Roy for him to spare his life after defeating him.
  • My Master, Right or Wrong: She's unfailingly loyal to General Grant, even though she acknowledges that his motives aren't as pure as he claims and underneath his Reasonable Authority Figure exterior he can be a cold and ruthless man.
  • Mutually Exclusive Party Members: Whether you get her or Judy as your 3rd companion depends on whether you decide to ally with General Grant or the Resistance.

     Judy
  • Mutually Exclusive Party Members: Whether you get her or Devotion as your 3rd companion depends on whether you decide to ally with the Resistance or General Grant.
