Element Users

    Apollo

Voiced by: Takuma Terashima (JP), Christopher Bevins (EN)

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/apollo_aquarion.png

The male protagonist. Apollo is an orphan who grows up amongst a group of homeless children. His name is given to him by his best friend Baron, as a reference to the legendary Greek god Apollo. Apollo possesses a kind heart and noble spirit behind his rude, aggressive and bestial behavior, with extremely sharp reflexes and senses akin to a wild animal. His characteristics cause few DEAVA members to believe the rumor he is the reincarnation of the "Solar Wing" Apollonius. His main power as an Element is his fighting strength, able to shatter the head of a Cherubim Soldier with a single punch while piloting Aquarion.

His OVA incarnation differs in several aspects: he was raised in the forest by his grandfather, and has a distrust of other people due to their tendency to destroy nature. He's less animalistic and more aloof.

  • Adaptation Personality Change: He is a far calmer person in the OVA, acting more like a Nature Hero rather than a Wild Child. This may have been the result of him being raised by his grandfather.
  • Animal Motif: He's represented by a winged dog. In the TV series, he was originally a Shadow Angel Dog in his past life.
  • Battle Couple: With Silvia, eventually. Particularly whenever they get put into the Aquarion together, which is often.
  • Belligerent Sexual Tension: With Silvia. They are attracted to one another, but both are stubborn to admit it and argue with each other instead. It takes most of the series for them to begin accepting each other's feelings.
  • Fiery Redhead: He has red hair and he's rebellious and boisterous.
  • Heroic Sacrifice: Following the collapse of the Tree of Life, Apollo chooses to sacrifice himself, along with Sirius and Toma to restore the world.
  • Interspecies Romance: With Silvia, since she is a Shadow Angel/Human hybrid.
  • Jerk with a Heart of Gold: His upbringing tends to lend itself to rudeness, and Apollo tends to be focused on his own goals over other people's. Despite this, he does have a kind heart.
  • Meaningful Name: His friend Baron named him after the Greek god of the sun Apollo.
  • Naked First Impression: In the OAV miniseries, Apollo is completely naked during his first meeting with Silvia and Reika.
  • Noble Male, Roguish Male: Roguish Male to Sirius' Noble Male. Apollo is the crass Wild Child and Sirius is the cultured Princely Young Man.
  • The Nose Knows: He has a near-supernaturally good sense of smell, and is often seen sniffing and following scents.
  • Primal Stance: Tends to run on all fours and spends a lot of time in the trees.
  • Red Eyes, Take Warning: His eyes will turn red when he gets really angry, at which point the enemy should beware.
  • Red Is Heroic: He's The Hero and he has red hair.
  • Red Oni, Blue Oni: The hotheaded Red to Sirius' coolheaded Blue.
  • Reincarnated as a Non-Humanoid: Inverted. In his past life, Apollo was Pollon, a winged dog that wished to reincarnate as a human to be with Celiane's reincarnation.
  • Reincarnation: He's believed to be the reincarnation of Apollonius, aka the "Solar Wing". It turns out that the Solar Wing was Aquarion itself, and Aquarion Evol reveals that Apollo is actually the reincarnation of Apollonius's dog, Pollon.
  • Reincarnation Romance: He's the reincarnation of Apollonius's pet dog who was in love with his human lover Celiane and wished to be human in his next life to be with Celiane. Apollo falls in love with Silvia who is the reincarnation of his past life's love Celiane, although only half of it.
  • Star-Crossed Lovers: With Silvia. Right as he and Silvia finally admit their feelings, he has to sacrifice himself to save the world. He tells Silvia that they should meet again in another 12,000 years.
  • Supernatural Gold Eyes: He has golden eyes and he's believed to be the reincarnation of Apollonius.
  • Take Care of the Kids: Before his Heroic Sacrifice, he asks Silvia to look after his orphan friends in his place.
  • Tragic Keepsake: He keeps a piece of Baron's headband after his friend dies.
  • Wild Child: He grew up without parents, in the wilds and on the streets. Though his animalistic characteristics are more inherent to his nature than this would imply.
  • "X" Marks the Hero: He has cross-shaped scar on his right cheek.

    Silvia de Alisia

Voiced by: Yumi Kakazu (JP), Brina Palencia (EN)

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/silvia_de_alisia.png

The female protagonist. She is a noble from the Alisia family and the reincarnation of Apollonius' human lover Celiane. Silvia possesses great physical strength and admiration for her older brother Sirius, who she believes he is the real reincarnation of the "Solar Wing". Her main power as an Element is her psychokinesis.

  • Action Girl: Definitely not one to stay on the sidelines, Silvia is a warrior, and as capable in combat as any of the boys.
  • Battle Couple: With Apollo, eventually.
  • Belligerent Sexual Tension: With Apollo. She is particularly in denial that Apollo could be Apollonius's reincarnation, therefore she also denies any feelings for him she has until late in the series.
  • Big Brother Attraction: She has a crush on her brother and is convinced that he's the reincarnation of her lover. This attraction is caused by the longing of the two halves of Celiane's soul to be united again.
  • Big Brother Worship: She won't tolerate an unkind word against her older brother, and is quick to sing his praises.
  • Clingy Jealous Girl: She really doesn't like to see other girls getting close to Sirius, especially Reika.
  • Freakiness Shame: After discovering Silvia is a Shadow Angel/Human hybrid, Pierre says her wings look good.
  • Mind over Matter: Her element power is telekinesis, allowing her to move objects without touching them.
  • Princesses Prefer Pink: She usually wears pink, and her aura is often pink as well.
  • Reincarnation: Of Celiane. More specifically she's the reincarnation of her light half.
  • Reincarnation Romance: With Apollo. Complicated by the fact that she's only half the reincarnation of his love.
  • Shower of Angst: In the OVA, after Sirius' death.
  • Star-Crossed Lovers: With Apollo. She barely gets to admit she's in love with him before he has to go sacrifice himself.
  • Tsundere: She spends nearly the entire series denying she even likes Apollo and all she does is argue with him. She does admit her feelings for him near the end, only for him to sacrifice himself shortly after.
  • Uneven Hybrid: She is a descendant of Apollonius and Celiane and a Shadow Angel/Human hybrid.

    Sirius de Alisia

Voiced by: Tomokazu Sugita (JP), Eric Vale (EN)

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/sirius_de_alisia.png

Silvia's older brother. He is passionate on the concepts of aesthetics and perfection. A skilled swordsman, many DEAVA members, including himself, believed he was the true reincarnation of the "Solar Wing", thus Sirius despises Apollo when he enters the organization. His main power as an Element is an unnamed ability to "scan" areas such as rooms.

  • Aloof Big Brother: He generally acts this way around Silvia. He cares for her, obviously, but doesn't reciprocate her fascination with him.
  • Big Brother Instinct: He feels protective towards his younger sister Silvia.
  • Catchphrase: "How disgraceful..."
  • Death by Adaptation: In the OVA adaptation, he is dead before the story even begins.
  • Doesn't Like Guns: He prefers fighting with swords over firearms.
  • Face–Heel Turn: Consumed by his jealousy of Apollo, he allies with the Shadow Angels near the end of the series.
  • Heroic Sacrifice: He sacrifices himself, along with Apollo and Toma to restore the world.
  • The Lancer: He's the most prominent of the male heroes after Apollo and serves as Apollo's main Foil.
  • Long-Haired Pretty Boy: He's an attractive young man with long blond hair.
  • Noble Male, Roguish Male: Noble Male to Apollo's Roguish Male. Sirius is the cultured Princely Young Man and Apollo is the crass Wild Child
  • Promotion to Parent: He had to take over caring for Silvia following the deaths of their parents.
  • Red Oni, Blue Oni: The coolheaded Blue to hotheaded Apollo's Red.
  • Reincarnated as the Opposite Sex: Sirius believes himself to be the reincarnation of Apollonius, but late in the series, it's revealed Sirius is really a reincarnation of Celiane, Apollonius' lover whose soul was reborn in two halves. Her other reincarnation is Sirius' younger sister, Silvia.
  • Uneven Hybrid: He is a descendant of Apollonius and Celiane and a Shadow Angel/Human hybrid.

Voiced by: Masaya Onosaka (JP), Travis Willingham (EN)

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/pierre_vieira.png

A star soccer player. Pierre is a hyperactive Element User, with more than the double of serotonin levels than any other User. His main power is a "Fire Kick" attack that is a perfect combination of his passion for soccer and his burning spirit.

  • The Big Guy: Boisterous and one of the better fighters on the team. He's also among the taller members of the cast.
  • If It's You, It's Okay: Seems to have this towards Jun. In his dream where he imagine himself as a sultan surrounded by women, Jun was one of the girls.

  • Beta Couple: He has a background romance with Tsugumi throughout the series.
  • Nerd Glasses: He's always wearing glasses to emphasize his "nerd" persona.
  • The Smart Guy: Generally spends his time in Mission Control over fighting in Aquarion. Even when he does pilot, he tends to take a support role over active combat.

  • Blessed with Suck: Her element power is rather destructive and hard to control, leading her to view it this way.
  • Having a Blast: This is apparently her psychic power. Her heart starts beating furiously, and then she promptly lets loose a psychic explosion. Usually Played for Laughs.

  • Cybernetics Eat Your Soul: He was selected for an operation to graft Shadow Angel feathers into Elements to give them great strength to combat the Shadow Angels, which gave him a cyborg-like personality.

She can read the "Book of Holy Genesis", scriptures containing the history of the conflict that occurred between the Shadow Angels and humans 12,000 years ago. Shadow Angels

    Holy Angel Toma

Voiced by: Toshiyuki Morikawa (JP), J. Michael Tatum (EN)

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/angel_toma.png

The main antagonist and Apollonius' onetime partner until Apollonius fell in love with Celiane and defeated the Shadow Angels. Knowing Apollonius will be reincarnated in 12,000 years, Toma places himself in suspended animation and is awoken 12,000 years later. Even after so long, Toma could never forgive him for betraying their kind, but lingering feelings for his beloved Apollonius still resides in his heart. Toma plans to use the Aquarion's power to repair the Tree of Life, but in order to make it possible, he needs to make the Aquarion manifest its true power of the "Solar Wings", thus prepares the various ordeals and trials for DEAVA's Element Users, specifically Apollo, in order to make them stronger.

  • Big Bad: Though he isn't the leader of the Shadow Angels, he is the one in charge of gathering prana for the Tree of Life and the guy usually picking fights with the heroes.
  • Heartbroken Badass: His beloved Apollonius left him for a human woman. However Apollonius did love him, he simply loved Celiane more.

  • Mister Seahorse: In the OVA.
  • Mystical White Hair: A Shadow Angel with white hair.
  • One True Love: His was and always shall be Apollonius.
  • Really 700 Years Old: Though he placed himself in suspended animation for 12,000 years, it's suggested that Shadow Angels age very slowly, if at all. Exactly how old he is is unclear.
  • Redemption Equals Death: He sacrifices himself, along with Apollo and Sirius to restore the world.
  • Villainous Crush: He flirts a bit with Apollo.
  • Well-Intentioned Extremist: Everything he does that isn't driven by his love for Apollonius is the survival of his race. In the OVAs it's allowing the not yet born children to become a new god like race through Aquarion.

  • Mark of the Supernatural: Right eye blue, left eye yellow. This helps to show that she's a Shadow Angel.
  • The Resenter: She despises Apollonius and Celiane, not only because they destroyed Atlandia 12,000 years ago, but also because their love broke Toma's heart.
  • Subordinate Excuse: She's devoted to Toma not only because she's his servant.

The only child angel who survived Atlantis' destruction 12,000 years before.

  • Mercury's Wings: His wings are located at his ankles.
  • Obliviously Evil: He sees no evil in playing with the "Wingless ones'" lives and doesn't seem to realize how the destruction he causes harms them.

Others

    Apollonius

Voiced by: Takuma Terashima (JP), Christopher Bevins (EN)

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/cc3cf34236684f05eef7a497a82609e4.png

A Shadow Angel and Toma's fiance before he fell in love with the human Celiane.

  • Heel–Face Turn: He was originally known as "The Angel of Massacre" and is implied to have slaughtered a huge number of humans. He later became the savior of humanity.
  • Interspecies Romance: With Celiane. The first and only known case of a Shadow Angel and a human falling in love.
  • One Head Taller: Than Celiane.
  • Runaway Fiancé: Unlike other cases he did truly love Toma. He just happened to love Celiane more.

  • Second Love: For Apollonius. Problem is, the first love is still around and insanely jealous...
  • Star-Crossed Lovers: With Apollonius. They didn't get the happy ending they desired.

    Scorpius

Voiced by: Mitsuki Saiga (JP)

An OVA-exclusive character, Scorpius was a friend to Celiane and Apollonius. However, his fascination with and hunger for the power of the Shadow Angels lead him to betray them. It was he who killed Apollonius.

  • The Corruptible: He desired the power of the Shadow Angels to improve the lives of humanity. Unfortunately, Toma was able to play on this to his advantage.
  • Face–Heel Turn: He seemed to genuinely like Apollonius and Celiane, but his desire for power eventually outweighed this.
