In General

• Dysfunction Junction: Averted, sanity-wise at least; everyone is stable except Poe. You can't say they are exactly 'normal' people though.
• Expy: Of Touken Ranbu's naginata class; they both hit all enemy units and have frustratingly low damage which takes a lot of leveling to become worthwhile.
• Herd-Hitting Attack: Their attacks hit every enemy unit.
• The Runt at the End: Edgar Allan Poe is the only whip with a sanity other than stable, and since stable is the strongest sanity, this qualifies this class as a line-up with him as the "runt".

• Antiquated Linguistics: Due to his age and the fact he is an Edo-born, his speech is fairly stilted and archaic.
• Dude Looks Like a Lady: If the fact asserting he's a man is his critical hit dialogue is anything to go by.
• Eastern Zodiac: Dragon (1868).
• Freudian Trio: Superego to Tokuda's Id and Kyouka's Ego.

• Insistent Terminology: He acknowledges he's elderly, but don't call him a hag.
• Kimono Fanservice: As is required of Ozaki writers, but he comes off as the most elegant and graceful of the lot.
• Mr. Fanservice: He's good-looking to begin with, and the fact he's a whip user with a penchant for "disciplining" adds a layer of SM vibe.

• Older Than They Look: Is apparently an old man, but clearly doesn't look it.
• Picky Eater: A self-professed one; he thinks being picky about food is inevitable for writers. He's calm and easygoing normally, but can get very irritable once food is involved.
• Sexy Mentor: Founder and leader of a literary faction, has disciples under his wing and is undeniably sexy.
• Sweet Tooth: Kyouka once expressed worry about Kōyō eating all of his birthday cake, despite him wanting to celebrate birthday with his beloved teacher. This gets so bad that when Kyōka refuses to buy him sweets out of concern for his health and because Kōyō himself swore to put off sweets, he throws a hissy fit over it.
• A Taste of the Lash: He doesn't seem to view enemies as enemies and fighting as fighting at all; he refers to enemies as potential students and fighting them as "discipline".
• Western Zodiac: Capricorn (January 10). He certainly has the trustworthiness down.
• Wholesome Crossdresser: His casual outfit includes a kappōgi, usually considered women's wear.
