    In General
  • Awesome, but Impractical: They have the highest attack out of all types, but they're locked to the first and last attacking turns, making them not as effective when it comes to attacking.
  • Bottomless Magazines: They are never depicted as running out of bullets or having anything to store the bullets. It's not known if what comes out of their barrels is even bullets.
  • Warrior Poet: All gun-type authors are poets and/or fairy tale writers, making most of them this. Special mention to Masaoka Shiki, who says haikus during battle.
     3 – Hagiwara Sakutarō (萩原朔太郎)
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/hagiwara_sakutarou_normal.png

Damn you, making a face like a floundering mackerel!
Voiced by: Tetsuya Kakihara (JP), Barrett Leddy (EN, anime)
Live-acted by: Taiga Fukazawa (stage play)
Rarity: Gold
Famous Works: Song of the Goat (山羊の歌), Song of the Bygone Days (在りし日の歌), In the Tainted Sorrows (汚れつちまつた悲しみに)
Sanity: Somewhat unstable (やや不安定)

  • The Alcoholic: A lot of his lines revolve around sake.
  • The Bully: Mostly towards Dazai - he's the easiest target.
  • Drowning My Sorrows: Deals with his bad moods by drinking.
  • Eastern Zodiac: Sheep (1907).
  • Friend to All Children: Two of his few actually positive relationships are with children. Chuuya admired Miyazawa Kenji in real life, and he was definitely not a child at the time, but there's no historical reason for his friendship with Niimi Nankichi except that Chuuya loved children.
  • Functional Addict: Barely. While calling him emotionally stable is optimistic, he's one of the better gun-wielding authors.
  • I Just Want to Have Friends: Hagiwara suggests Chuuya is this, and the younger responses by asking if the older wants to fight.
  • Jerkass Woobie: An asshole to almost all adults? Yep. He wants to make friends, but he doesn't know how to. And then there's the matter of his last years of life...
  • The Napoleon: Roughly 150 centimeters, shorter than any other adult character in game. He is not someone you would want to mess with.
  • Sour Outside, Sad Inside: Hagiwara calls Chuuya out on this: he pushes people away and isolates himself so that people don't know he's hurting.
  • Western Zodiac: Taurus (April 29).
     7 – Miyazawa Kenji (宮沢賢治)

Alright! Let's play baseball... eh? Not enough people?
Voiced by: Minoru Shiraishi
Rarity: Beige
Faction: Leisure School (余裕派)
Famous Works: Letter to a Tanka Poet (歌よみに与ふる書), A Sixfoot Sickbed (病牀六尺)
Sanity: Somewhat Stable (やや安定)

  • Eastern Zodiac: Rabbit (1867).
  • Flanderization: While he did play baseball during his middle school, it's a relatively trivial thing about him compared to his reputation as one of the greatest haiku poets in Japan, but the game takes the fact he used to be a baseball player and runs with it, with him having a healthier body after being reincarnated as the justification(since he's constantly living with tuberculosis during his past life).
  • Western Zodiac: Libra (October 14).

     35 – Wakayama Bokusui (若山牧水)
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/wakayama_bokusui_normal.png

Hello. I have but one path, so I'll follow you.
Voiced by: Masakazu Morita
Rarity: Beige
Faction: Morning Star (明星)
Famous Works: The Journey (道程), Chieko's Sky (智恵子抄)
Sanity: Stable (安定)

  • Act of True Love: Takamura loved his wife Chieko so dearly, to the point he refused to give her a posthumous Buddhist name (which was tradition for the death in then-Japan) as he couldn't "link that and Chieko together". Chieko's Sky, arguably one of Takamura's most famous works, was the whole memorial of his beloved with sincerest emotions poured in.
  • Eastern Zodiac: Sheep (1883).
  • Handy Man: Enjoys crafting, and gets tunnel vision whenever he sees wood that is suitable for so.
  • Perpetual Smiler: Always has a gentle smile on his face.
  • Western Zodiac: Pisces (March 13).
     37 – Ishikawa Takuboku (石川啄木)

Voiced by: Gakuto Kajiwara
Rarity: Gold
Faction: Mita School (三田派)
Famous Works: The Abandoned Garden (廃園), Pearl Island (真珠島)
Sanity: Somewhat stable (やや安定)

  • Badass Preacher: He wears what appears to be pastor's robes, an allusion to his being Catholic in his previous life.
  • Eastern Zodiac: Ox (1889).
  • Formal Characters Use Keigo: Speaks in keigo as part of his courteous gentleman persona.
  • Friend to All Children: His slight antagonism and indifferent attitude is much diluted when in front of Niimi.
  • Labcoat of Science and Medicine: Seemingly wears one underneath the blue overcoat.
  • The Rival: Dislikes Kitahara and the Kitahara clan, and the feeling is mutual.
    • Rivals Team Up: But again, he and Haku left on the Japanese poetry scene what is termed the "Hakuro era". They are also perfectly willing to cooperate during dual attacks.
Rofū: Let's work together for now, shall we?
Haku: Yes, I don't mind, Rofū

Love is the key to life. Once there is love, there is life. … Fufu, would you like to try?
Voiced by: Kōhei Amasaki
Rarity: Silver
Famous works:
Sanity: Somewhat unstable (やや不安定)

  • Animal Motifs: Butterflies.
  • Dude Looks Like a Lady: As the first truly crossdressing writer and looking very pretty himself. Katai frequently mistakes him for a girl for this reason.
  • Elegant Gothic Lolita: A corseted dress, stockings, hats, gloves plus lots of frills, bows and lace.
  • Even the Guys Want Him: Katai, which amuses him.
  • Gameplay and Story Segregation: In-story, he's immune to arrows. This doesn't prevent bow-types from normally attacking him in the special boss stage or him from taking damage from bow-type enemies.
  • Old Shame: In-Universe, he sees his old works like this and becomes a taint in order to destroy them in spite of his associates' wishes.
  • Ship Tease: With Tōson and Katai; his deep appreciation of the former is delivered with the subtlety of a boulder to the face, while the latter is often subject to teasing from him and may or may not have had sex with him while both were drunk.
  • What Did I Do Last Night?: May or may not have done… something… with Katai when both were drunk, as revealed in the latter's letter.
  • Yandere: Possibly the biggest offender of this in this game – he treasures his friendship with Tōson to the point where he loses all hope after his own death, tries to imprison Tōson and keep him forever after they reunite, tries to kill his other associates for getting in his way, and when all that fails, wants to disappear along with the works he's destroyed until Tōson talks him out of it.
     90 – Lewis Carroll (ルイス・キャロル)
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/lewis_carroll_normal.png
Will you understand my sensibility?
Voiced by: Shouta Aoi
Rarity: Silver
Faction: England
Famous Works: Alice's Adventures in Wonderland
Sanity: Normal (普通)

  • Anime Accent Absence: One of the most egregious straight cases; he had little to no education in Japanese culture and language, and yet speaks better Japanese than Yakumo, can talk to Japanese writers and is fully understood by them.
  • Do Not Call Me "Paul": Doesn't enjoy Doyle's calling him by his real name Dodgson.
  • Shrinking Violet: Isn't very comfortable around those he is unfamiliar with. Though once he warm ups with you, you just watch his mouth.
  • Western Zodiac: Aquarius (January 27).
