Hiroto Akagi

Ultimate Vigilante

Voiced by: Sword of Swords

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/hiro_splash.png
"I can't be sure I'm doing the 'right thing', but this is all I can do right now."

A young man who loved watching tv shows about costumed 'superheroes' who defeat villains and protect the defenseless. Starting with an incident at his school, he started donning a red motorcycle helmet and became 'Revenger Red' and since then began helping people and stopping crime all around his home town. He's a little embarrassed with how passionate he used to be, but still has a predilection towards 'saving' people.

  • Badass Normal: Relying only on his brains, his street smarts and love of heroics, Hiroto has been able to make a remarkable career as an Ultimate Vigilante.
  • Chronic Hero Syndrome: Hiroto makes it his mission to save the innocents and stop crime however he can.
  • Does Not Like Spam: He dislikes octopus.
  • Fan Boy: He and his sister are huge fans of Urara for her shonen manga.
  • Fiery Redhead: Subverted. He has cherry red hair but he's quite level-headed and serious when it comes to his hero career.
  • Iconic Item: Is always shown with his red motorcycle helmet.
  • Idiot Hair: Designates his role as the POV protagonist.
  • In-Series Nickname: His vigilante identity is known as Revenger Red.
  • Meaningful Name: His first name means "great or large" and his last name means "red castle or crimson". The last name refers to his red hair and the two names together enforce his image as a mighty hero.
  • The Protagonist: The main character that Brave DR focuses on.
  • Red Is Heroic: His theme color is red and has dedicated his life to being a vigilante hero.
  • That Man Is Dead: He openly declares that he's no longer the eager, naive kid who tried to promote "justice" however he could.
  • Took a Level in Cynic: Implied. In the present, he admits to being embarrassed with how passionate he was when first became a vigilante. It's presumed that his experience has made him more serious regarding his career.

    Hibiki Kotobuki

Hibiki Kotobuki

Ultimate Audio Technician

Voiced by: Seth Raffield

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/hibikiart.png
"My job is to make the real talent sound the best they can be from the 'shadows'."

A boy skilled in audio engineering and the operation of audio equipment of all kinds. Has worked behind the scenes for various up-and-coming musicians without meeting them, as he has a mindset that he's someone that should only exist 'backstage' and shouldn't interfere with the people 'onstage'. Very passionate about artists he admires. An energetic and excitable mood-maker, but is quick to self-deprecation and moodiness.

  • FanBoy: He's one to Urara for her shonen manga.
  • Gender-Blender Name: His name is commonly used for girls. Not to mention his name, pink hair and music talent bring to mind a couple of other Ultimate students with those characteristics...
  • Hidden Depths: According to Word of God, Hibiki used to play the piano and won a piano playing competition when he was younger. Despite his talent, he hated the grueling work that was put on him and he eventually gave it up.
  • Idiot Hair: He has two small ones: one black, one pink.
  • In Touch with His Feminine Side: His theme color is pink and one of his interests is idols which is considered a feminine hobby. His hair is dyed and filled with hairpins, being reminiscent of effeminate Visual Kei fashion.
  • Hero-Worshipper: To Urara. He refers to her as his "sensei" and pushes the others to do the same.
  • Like Parents Unlike Son: Hibiki is a shy audio technician who prefers to work in the shadows while his parents are classical music lovers who pushed him into the spotlight.
  • Meaningful Name: His first name means "sound" which suits his profession as an audio technician.
  • Mood-Swinger: His emotional state changes from high and eccentric to depressed and miserable.
  • Otaku: Minor example, but his interests are listed as Manga and Idols.
  • Parental Issues: He has a strained relationship with his parents after he gave up playing the piano which was something they forced onto him when he was a child.
  • Scary Teeth: He has sharp, shark-like teeth.
  • Self-Deprecation: Hibiki suffers from low-self esteem and talks bad about himself from time to time.
  • Shrinking Violet: He prefers to work behind the scenes rather than in the spotlight and is quite awkward when interacting with other people.

    Kazuya Makishima

Kazuya Makishima

Ultimate Pro Golfer

Voiced by: Devin McLaughlin

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/kazart2.png
"In this world, there are 'winners' and there are 'losers'. You're firmly in the latter category."

A natural athletic genius born with perfect reflexes and motor control. It's near impossible for him to make mistakes. Excelled in any sport he played with little effort, but settled on golf as his game of choice because he didn't need to rely on teammates who weren't able to keep up with him. Arrogant and cunning, sorts people into winners and losers when he meets them and treats those he considers 'losers' with contempt and mockery.

  • The Ace: Kazuya is described as being so skilled that he's mastered every sport imaginable.
  • Ambiguously Brown: One of the two dark skinned students of the cast.
  • I Work Alone: He prefers to play by himself as anyone who sides with him would only drag him down with their inferior skill level.
  • Ironic Name: His first name means "peace or harmony". His self-entitled, competitive nature shows how he's anything but peaceful.
  • Jerkass: Setting up to be one of the most unpleasant students of the group.
  • Jerkass Has a Point: As cruel and selfish as he is, he makes some valid criticisms regarding Hiroto's hope speech. He claims that blindly trusting people who've known each other for less than a day will only result in disaster and will cheapen any attempts at establishing trust in the long run.
  • Jerk Jock: One of the worst cases in a Fanganronpa game. He's incredibly talented but he is arrogant to a fault and looks down on anyone he deems as inferior.
  • Recurring Element: Serves as the antagonistic classmate typical of Danganronpa games.
  • The Social Darwinist: A firm believer that the world is filled with either winners or losers. And the losers deserve to be mistreated and look down upon by the winners, such as himself.
  • Sophisticated as Hell: He's known for using academic-level insults and is quite knowledgeable when it comes to sports science.
  • Super-Reflexes: Kazuya has superhuman reaction time, which combined with his precise motor control makes him a near Instant Expert at any sport he plays.

"Ah benvenuto! I was just preparing some 'snacks' for everyone!"

A half-Italian boy who grew up working at his parent's trattoria. His love of desserts led him to practice and eventually become head of the desert section. He became famous after winning many dessert competitions, being called the 'Little Prince of Pastries' and will soon open a shop of his own in Japan. Innocent and child-like, he loves nothing more than to watch the smiles of people eating his food.

    Daisuke Shiriaki

Daisuke Shiriaki

Ultimate Skateboarder

Voiced by: NuzikVA

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/tumblr_inline_pbzis5cgxy1tk8rs3_500.png
"I'd do anything for my 'family'...You're the same, right? You seem like a good guy."

Lives in a poor urban area, he practiced and became skilled enough on a skateboard to make TV appearances on extreme sports television shows. He uses the money from sponsorship to support his 3 younger siblings after his parents fell ill. His manager tried to build up a "tough punk" image for him, hence his tattoos and fashion. In contrast to them, he's an earnest and emotional guy who is good at housework and taking care of kids.

  • Cool Board: He owns one and is incredibly talented at using it.
  • Curtains Match the Window: His eyes are the same color as his hair.
  • Friend to All Children: He gets along great with his little siblings and his bio card states that he likes kids.
  • The Leader: He shares this role with Hiroto as speaks out to the group on what actions they should take while providing moral guidance when needed.
  • Mean Character, Nice Actor: His tough appearance was fabricated by his manager to build reputation for him. Take away the chains and tattoos and you have a good-hearted young man.
  • Promotion to Parent: Daisuke became the new guardian of his younger siblings after his parents became too sick to care for them.
  • Sir Swears Alot: Inverted. He strongly dislikes swearing.
  • Skeleton Motif: His outfit and accessories are riddled with scary skull figures.
  • Straight Man: Setting up to be this as he considers his classmates to be "eccentric".
  • Tattooed Crook: Subverted. Is often mistaken for a thug or a punk but the tattoos are just part of his image, in reality he's a pleasant guy.

Goro Yamaoka

Ultimate Sumo Wrestler

Voiced by: JRoyalVA

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/tumblr_inline_pcgumlkedb1tk8rs3_540.png
"He's going to have to 'get through me' before he even thinks about hurtin' you pal!"

Son of the leader of a Buddhist sect. He grew up in a temple school where the grueling work around the temple and the visits to a legendary hot springs built his body like a boulder. He soon became a rising star in the youth sumo scene, with some saying his path to achieving the rank of 'Yokozuna' being inevitable. While gruff in looks and speech, he's big-hearted and jovial, and tries to remain level-headed no matter the circumstances.

    Daigo Takatsukasa

Daigo Takatsukasa

Ultimate Hooligan

Voiced by: Zillah

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/daigoart.png
"You've got a couple of 'fights' under your belt don't you...? I can tell. We have the same scent."

A teenager with ferocious strength and instincts. He sent gangs and thugs that provoked him to the hospital with horrible injuries. This got him noticed by people involved in underground fight clubs where he's allowed to let loose against 'maniacs' fighting to kill just like him. While violent, he has a sense of honor. He believes that the 'strong' live in their own world and they shouldn't be involved with 'weaklings' because they'll eventually hurt them.

  • Ambiguously Brown: The only other dark skinned student apart from Kazuya.
  • The Berserker: The only thing on his mind whenever he faces an opponent is how badly he can hurt them.
  • Blood Knight: He lives for bloodlust and has made a whole living out of it.
  • Blue-and-Orange Morality: According to Daigo, most people don't realize that his use of brutal fighting is his way of expressing his true feelings. And the only people who can understand him are people who are as equally as violent as he is.
  • The Brute: An aggressive student who craves the thrill of a good fight.
  • Chained by Fashion: He has handcuffs attached to his wrists to showcase how dangerous he is.
  • Daddy Issues: Word of God on Discord claims that Daigo has a poor relationship with his father. It's to the point that Mr. Takatsukasa has disowned him.
  • The Dreaded: One of the most fearsome Ultimates in a Fanganronpa game on account of his gruesome appearance, his deadly personality, and his reputation as an underground fighter.
  • Embarrassing Nickname: He's not too fond of his ultimate title, preferring his In-Series Nickname.
  • Good Scars, Evil Scars: He has scars all over his arms and one on his face. No doubt from his past battles.
  • In-Series Nickname: On the streets, he's known as "Unchained Daigo".
  • Make an Example of Them: To ensure that the Ultimates understand that they mean business, MonoChrome decides to showcase their power by punishing Daigo for punching them by restraining his body and electrocuting him. He survives but it delivered a serious toll on his body.
  • Messy Hair: His hair is long and unruly. Kind of like Izuru's.
  • Noble Demon: Despite his bloodlust, he has an honor code where he, a strong person, chooses to stay away from weaklings in fear of hurting them.
  • Professional Killer: Surprisingly subverted. While he's encouraged to cut loose in the underground fight circuit, Word of God states that he has never killed anyone.
  • Red Eyes, Take Warning: He has piercing red eyes and is someone you don't want to mess with.
  • The Social Darwinist: Averted. While he makes a distinction between strong and weak people, he refuses to fight the latter and anyone who doesn't want to fight.
  • Why Did It Have to Be Snakes?: He dislikes spiders in his bio card.
  • Worthy Opponent: He has an admiration for 'strong guys' or anyone he considers to be 'strong'.

    Ichirou Taida

Ichirou Taida

Ultimate Doctor

Voiced by: TunnelBerg

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/tumblr_inline_pcnptt4nsa1tk8rs3_500.png
"...Do not die...As long you don't die, I can 'save' you."

Son of the head of a pharmaceutical company who was forced to use his knowledge and skills to save lives when he was caught in a warzone in a remote country. While mildly cold and anti-social, he believes 'life' is something precious and should be preserved no matter what. Goes from lethargic and apathetic to super-humanly focused when there's someone he considers a 'patient' in front of him.

  • All-Loving Hero: A possible Deconstruction. While Ichirou does value all life in general, that doesn't mean he necessarily cares/likes the people that those lives are attached to.
  • Cool Mask: He wears a medical mask.
  • Dark and Troubled Past: Was said to have been caught up in a dangerous war in his younger years. And while using his medical skills to save as many victims as he could, it's all but stated that he witnessed multiple atrocities on account of the ongoing war.
  • Determined Doctor: He has a strong medical background and is determined to save a many lives as possible.
  • Exhausted Eyebags: He has some under his eyes.
  • The Intern: Given his age and lack of courses, his title as an Ultimate Doctor doesn't mean he's an official one.
  • Jerk with a Heart of Gold: Despite being an anti-social person, he does care about protecting life.
  • Meaningful Name: His last name can mean "laziness, idleness or lax". When he's not saving lives, Ichirou can be rather lazy and mellow about the things going around him.
  • The Medic: The only person in the group who has sufficient medical knowledge and offers to care for those in serious need.

"Hahaha-! Wow Hiro...! You were really cool! You're going to save us all right? Right? Just like a 'hero'...!"

A strange girl who refuses to talk about her talent or past to anyone, allegedly because its more 'romantic' to keep it a mystery. She is well versed in both flowers and human anatomy, and very interested in macabre subjects. Her unnerving cheeriness and dedication to remaining an enigma makes her difficult to read, but she remains affable. She has a deep fascination and admiration for 'heroes'.

  • Deuteragonist: Is setting up to be a character of great importance behind Hiroto on account of her connections with the vigilante mixed with how heavily she was featured in the trailer.
  • Exotic Eye Designs: Her pupils are 5 petal flowers.
  • Fangirl: She's one to heroes. She also takes a strong liking to Hiroto because of his talent and heroic personality.
  • Flower Motifs: Her splash art features her with spider lilies which are associated with funerals and hell. How this applies to Anko has yet to be determined.
  • The Gadfly: She makes it difficult for the others to understand her because it's fun for her.
  • Idiot Hair: Has a curvy one on her hair.
  • Love Interest: Setting up to be one for Hiroto given the boy's hero career and how Anko has a soft spot for heroic figures.
  • Nightmare Fetishist: She openly admires the macabre and horror movies. Mixed with how she's well versed with the human anatomy, this can come off as rather unsettling.
  • No Sense of Personal Space: She often appears right behind Hiroto in his character portraits.
  • Obfuscating Stupidity: Stupidity is a strong word as Anko is more carefree and whimsical in nature. Beneath her lackadaisical personality lies a sharp and perceptive woman.
  • Recurring Element: Like in canon, Anko's talent and identity are a mystery. The only difference is that she never forgot them and wants to keep them a mystery.
  • The Spook: She tries very hard to be this by keeping her talent and past a secret form everyone.
  • Thinks Like a Romance Novel: She purposefully keeps her identity a secret as it contains a sense of romanticism.

    Urara Amemiya

Urara Amemiya

Ultimate Mangaka

Voiced by: InsomniaVA

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/uraraart.png
"I absolutely adore 'manga' as a medium. Do you have a favorite? Pray tell!"

A manga artist who wrote an award winning drama series, and is the author of a currently running shonen action franchise under a pen name. She's from a wealthy family and attended a prestigious all-girls school where they were trained to be "proper ladies", closed off from commoners. An eccentric person who speaks in a posh manner, but is very friendly and does her best to keep 'unruly' people in line.

  • Etiquette Nazi: She's known to keep ill-mannered people in order and outright dislikes bad manners in her biography.
  • Feather Motif: The shoulders of her uniform along with her hat include feathery wings.
  • Fish out of Water: Having grown up in a closed academy, she isn't very familiar with concepts and people beyond the academy walls. She even shows intrigue with meeting Hiroto as she's never seen a boy up close before.
  • Graceful Ladies Like Purple: Her uniform is violet and has the manners of a respectable lady.
  • Proper Lady: Urara came from an elite all girls academy and was taught to be a proper lady. Along with upholding good manners and etiquette, she even speaks in a British accent.
  • Real Men Wear Pink: Her favorite tropes in shonen manga are about men who cry and openly express their passion for friendship and sports.
  • Sequential Artist: Urara's main profession involves drawing manga and creating stories.
  • Spoiled Sweet: She came from a rich family but is a friendly person with a heart of gold.

    Stella Hoshinari

Ultimate Actress

Voiced by: Artimmiss

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/stellart.png

"I made a promise that I'd be a 'star' no matter what. I'm sure your dream will come true too!"

A half-American girl who always loved drama and theater when she was young. While she grew up in a backwater rural town she was scouted and lived in America for sometime attending a special school for training entertainers. After undergoing nonstop training she became a famous high-school actress and featured in many films across several genres. She carries herself like what she thinks a 'celebrity' should be like, but is very genuine and amicable.

    Honoka Onizaki

Honoka Onizaki

Ultimate Bomber

Voiced by: garbageGothic

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/tumblr_inline_pc6iilqcwh1tk8rs3_500.png
"It's everyone's favorite bombing idol here! Let's make a beautiful 'DEATH'-struction today!"

By day, she's a normal quiet high-school girl, but she moonlights as the host of bizarre livestreams where she creates mayhem in abandoned buildings and open wastelands with her homemade explosives all while acting as a preppy idol/magical girl hybrid. Said streams became viral and she's developed a devoted fanbase in the dark corners of the web. Rarely breaks her persona, but has a penchant for using rough language that contrasts it.

  • Cool Mask: She wears a gas mask with a star. Considering how she works closely with explosions and debris, it's an article of necessity rather than for show.
  • Demolitions Expert: Honoka is very well versed in making powerful bombs and explosions.
  • Exotic Eye Designs: She has yellow stars as pupils.
  • Fiery Red Head: She has orange hair and is as fiery as the explosions she makes.
  • Genki Girl: Overly enthusiastic and super cheerful.
  • Magic Idol Singer: A bizarre example of the trope. Her persona does have elements of both a Magical Girl and an Idol Singer (although whether she can sing or not has yet to be determined).
  • Mood-Swinger: Her personality can switch between excited and pumped to aggressive and violent to serious and somber faster than you can say salsa verde.
  • Secret Identity: Her persona as an explosion happy magical girl is a secret she keeps from her boring, ordinary life.
  • Sir Swears-a-Lot: She has a tendency to swear even while in character.

    Ume Omori

Ume Omori

Ultimate Occultist

Voiced by: Sierra

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/ume_new_splash.png
"It's awfully mean of people...To blame their misfortune on 'ghosts'."

A girl with a strange 'sixth sense' and awareness of spirits she doesn't understand herself. Very passionate about studying the occult and demonology in order to one day be able to find definitive proof of the existence of the paranormal. She believes ghosts have no business harming the living, and wishes to be friends with one. Usually deadpan, and tends to keep to herself because she's aware of her 'creepy' demeanor and interests.

    Hana Kongou

Hana Kongou

Ultimate Tailor

Voiced by: Natepeach

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/hanasplash.png
"You think it's 'cute'?...Ah, I'm really glad. This is basically the only thing I can do right..."

A girl extraordinarily skilled in sewing and designing clothes, she began selling clothes she designed through an online boutique where they became popular in cute-chic fashion circles. Values above all else 'cute' things, loves frills and stuffed animals. While she's a little timid and has little confidence in her talent she's attempting to change for the better and is trying to become someone who people can rely on as well as being more assertive.

  • Curtains Match the Window: Her pink eyes go well with her hair.
  • The Fashionista: She became popular thanks to her talent in creating clothing.
  • Forgotten First Meeting: She went to the same high school as Hiroto, and even sat behind him in one of their classes, but they never hung out.
  • The Generic Girl: Can be considered the most normal girl compared to her more "eccentric" classmates.
  • Girls Love Stuffed Animals: Her bio card states that she loves stuffed animals.
  • Princess Phase: She admits that one reason for her love of sewing was because she wanted to make her own princess dresses based on the ones in the storybooks she read as a kid.
  • Self-Deprecation: Hana has a tendency to talk lowly about herself. She even does this with one of her catchphrases.
    Hana: I'm so useless.
  • Shrinking Violet: She has a timid and gloomy personality but is trying to change that aspect about herself.
  • Teens Love Shopping: Online shopping to be exact.

    Mitsuba Hagahira

Mitsuba Hagihara

Ultimate Journalist

Voiced by: Arakachi

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/mitsuba_art_2.png
"Ain't no secret safe while I'm around, I'm an agent of the 'truth'...!"

An overtly ambitious member of her school's newspaper club. Mitsuba uses her investigative prowess and network of blackmailed 'slaves' to get what she wants. Her goal is to write 'definitive' articles, stirring and informative enough to become synonymous with 'the truth' and to be able to spread information free of bias. Sassy and snide. Very nosy, especially when she feels someone has something to hide.

  • Alpha Bitch: She's described as having a network of 'slaves' who are under her power and is a snide and aggressive girl.
  • Blackmail: She openly proclaims that she gets her stories by finding blackmail on unwitting people and using them to gain more blackmail material.
  • Brutal Honesty: Mitsuba enjoys the truth, the whole truth, and nothing but the truth.
  • Embodiment of Virtue: She's setting up to be one for the Truth as she works diligently to expose the truth and reveal it to everyone.
  • Intrepid Reporter: Her area of specialty is finding juicy information and writing stories based around them.
  • The Napoleon: The second shortest girl in the cast but has an aggressive and persistent personality to make up for it.
  • Slut-Shaming: She makes condescending remarks about Stella's appearance while claiming that she, and female celebrities in general, use their good looks and willingness to sleep with others as a way to maintain their success.
  • Tiny Tyrannical Girl: The second smallest girl after Ume and is a power hungry girl who abuses others to maintain her journalist career.

    Rei Tsuji

Rei Tsuji

Ultimate Archer

Voiced by: AtsuyoVA

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/tumblr_inline_pcpa2xwk981tk8rs3_500.png
"...My name. It means 'zero'. I suppose it's fitting, as I have 'zero' friends...! ....Pffufufufu...."

A prodigious competition archer from a traditionalist family. Her achievements and serious, diligent air has made her the idol of the all-girls school she attends. In reality, the 'cool beauty' persona she's famous for is a result of her natural glare and difficulty talking to people, so despite her fans she has no friends and spends most of her time alone. Behind her stoic expression, she has a strange sense of humor and often breaks into awkward bouts of laughter.

The Curator

     MonoChrome

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/tumblr_c645078abce7752016d155b45da2f964_e888a7ec_500.png
"Let us commence...the 'Coward Extermination Program'."

A bizarre, chipper machine which claims to oversee the Last Hope Sanctuary as the curator where the students are trapped in. They are made up of tiny nanomachines, so they can reform and shape themselves at will. They act cutesy, but they are quick to remind the students how much they spite them and how eager they are to see their numbers whittled down.

  • Attention Whore: They consider attention to be their favorite interest.
  • Big Bad: The main antagonist of Coward's Paradise.
  • Catchphrase Insult: They refer to the students as 'filthy insects'.
  • Faux Affably Evil: They have a cutesy personality but they don't hide how much they hate the kids.
  • For the Evulz: Just like their predecessor, MonoChrome takes great pleasure in motivating the Ultimates to kill each other for their amusement. Their bio card also states that they have even more hate for the students compared to Monokuma.
  • Implacable Machine: They can't be bargained with. They can't be reasoned with. They don't feel pity, or remorse, or fear. And they absolutely will not stop, ever, until all the Ultimates are dead.
  • Nanomachines: MonoChrome's body is made of tiny nanonbots that allow them to reconstruct themselves and take on any shape or form.
  • No Biological Sex: Can be considered nonbinary as they don't identify as neither boy or girl.
  • Pulling Themselves Together: As to be expected given their nanomachine anatomy.
  • Shapeshifter Default Form: While they have the ability to take on any form, MonoChrome's default form is that of a futuristic teddy bear with holographic arms and ears.
  • Shapeshifter Weapon: Based on their previous splash art, they can conjure up just about any deadly weapon.
  • Shock and Awe: They're able to use electric shock against any student who tries to hurt them. They demonstrate this ability by shocking Daigo in the prologue.
  • Suspiciously Similar Substitute: Of the titular mascot Monokuma.
