What do we do with Scotie Rw's entry? It was connected to another D Mo S entry about a Sour Patch Kids commercial (see the page's history for more), but the person who wrote it erased it, leaving the former entry without any context.

  • Ferigeras: Without a doubt the most anger-inducing commercial I have ever seen is this retarded Firestone tires commercial. Basically some woman just comes home from shopping and sees her husband has fallen asleep while playing video games (for some reason...), and the bitch instantly decides it would be a good idea to just take the console (which isn't even a real one) put it outside on the street, have her husband wake up and come outside to watch her running over his console with her car. The first two times she almost ran over it were just faked to torture him some more, and then the third time the bitch actually runs over it. The husband doesn't show the most accurate reaction someone would actually have in real life, and the bitch of a wife gives him the controller that still remained and gives him a kiss on the neck... and it turns out this was to show how durable Firestone tires are... and they decided it would be a good idea to put this on the Internet... YouTube no less. I know which tires I'm never ever gonna buy in my life.

I removed this because of the use of the term "retarded" (a slur against the mentally disabled), and because it's very heavily implied that the reason she did this was because she had come home from doing all the grocery shopping and errands only to find the house a mess (dog eating leftover food, garbage everywhere, etc) and the guy passed out and snoring on the couch after playing video games all day. It's also interesting that the majority of people who got angry were complaining that the woman was a "psycho bitch" for daring to get upset about the situation. It was just messy all around.

That... is not a reasonable pull. Like, at all. While I agree they shouldn't have used "retarded" that's not a valid reason to pull it, and the rest is just you disagreeing with someone's opinion.

Well, I think that there is nothing wrong with that commercial. I mean, everyone haves something that was destroyed by your mom or wife by running over it with a car as a punishment, am I right?

Well damn, I never went to this page only to see discussion on my D Mo S entry, even after all those years.

Yes... I was quite insensitive with the mere use of that adjective, and I was idiotic enough to have done that in the past as well, but I have sworn off of using it as an insult anymore. I still really should have known better.

But as for the rest of the entry, I'm going to agree with Larkmarn here. It's subjective after all. That being said, you have a good point; It really is infuriating to witness a messy room with someone (especially if it's a family member) just having passed out, I can even speak from experience, unfortunately...

It's something I absolutely took into account even when initially writing the entry, but I should have made it much clearer (which is why I edited it to reflect that). My main problem with the ad specifically was that the wife's action ended up being Disproportionate Retribution, and all that was done just to demonstrate how durable this product is, which if you ask me is a god-awful way to accomplish this.

  • Moonhead: My problem with that ad was that Pepsi was part of a controversy about using fetus stem cells in Pepsi Next, and yet they still used a baby in they're commercial.

Blatantly false. This has been debunked so many times it's ridiculous.

fluffything: At first, the Halo commercials were merely annoying at first with their use of Bratty Half-Pint kids not getting their just desserts for their deplorable behavior. However, one commercial in particular has managed to catch my rage. In said commercial, a mother tells her daughter that she gave the last of the oranges to the child's little brother. The daughter calmly tells her that it's ok. Does the commercial subvert the trend of kids being assholes for not getting what they want? Nope. Instead, we are treated to a shot of the mother closing the door revealing the little brother duct-taped to said door and crying in fear. I just want to make something perfectly clear to the makers of these commercials: Child! Abuse! Is! Not! Funny! Yes, this even applies to a child abusing another child. Keep in mind that all the little brother did was eat the last orange. And, for the horrible crime of eating one of her precious Halos, his sister saw no problem in causing him emotional and physical harm. Let's recap, shall we? Kids being brats over not getting what they want? Annoying but tolerable. Kids being abusive sociopaths? Not fucking funny!

I don't get. Where is the abuse? Duct taping someone on the wall is now child abuse? If there is no violence, it's not abuse, just a prank. Duct taping people on a door doesn't harm that person.

"If there is no violence, it's not abuse, just a prank."

I know, right? I didn't feed my kid for a month and yet Child Services kept calling it child abuse. There was no violence involved!

And when they found the other kid I duct taped to a wall, they didn't believe me when I said he was there willingly and I didn't have to use violence to restrain him. Crazy, right?

In all seriousness, while I think the entry is being a bit thin-skinned, your logic is kind of nonsensical.

The situation you described is abuse, the one in the commercial (girl duct taping to the door his younger brother because he gets everything and she doesn't) it's just a dumb prank that older brothers do all the times. I mean, who wasn't tied up on a chair against his will at least once?

Duct-tape is arguably more painful (especially when removing it) than being tied to a chair. The entry is taking the ad a little too seriously I admit (though a lot of these entries are, IMO) but it's subjective and we can't really remove it. When you get down to it, it is a fact that someone is harming a child in that ad, regardless of perceived severity.

How come there are multiple entries under the same troper for this page (especially fluffything)? Is the limit for tropers to only pick one commercial per brand? Or are there just not the same rules for this page as for other DMOS pages because advertising just has a different format?

On that note, is it just me or is this page even more complain-y than other DMOS pages? Like some people are missing the use of certain advertising tropes and complaining about things not being realistic when they were never really supposed to be.

  • Trialman: Sky's advertisement for their own broadband tech support team. This ad is done with Lego, and includes Batman having his heroic position being hijacked by the aforementioned tech support team. The problem is when Batman takes this badly, and heads around mocking the "bunch of nerds". This already feels out of character for Batman, but the real moment that sets me to boiling point is when he smashes a wall, and tells them to fix it, claiming, "Someone made a hole in it". I'm not the biggest fan of Batman, but even I can tell that this is nothing like him. He might be morally ambiguous at times, but he definitely wouldn't damage property over what amounts to a lightened workload.

Neither side was right here. One was a clear misunderstanding of the dualvertisement trope, and the other was a Justifying Edit with a silly little "don't delete this plz kthx" at the end (pro tip: this never works).
