Find a Trope:
openCan Do It In Their Sleep
Hello.
Is there a trope for when a Character is able to do some thing on instinct, in their sleep?
Case in point, they live in a House that shakes, often causing some thing to fall off the shelf at a certain time. This character is sleeping, yet is still able to catch the item that falls, and it does not even disturb their sleep.
Is there a trope for that type of thing?
open"How much is this?" "10" "Okay here's $10,000" Western Animation
You know that trope where this guy is trying to earn some money, and has an idea of selling random stuff they own. And while they are pre-occupied with something, some rich guy ask them a price for a seemingly innocuous item and they say a cheap price, which the rich guy misinterpret as a larger sum. that trope
openBoss Death Lightshow Videogame
Is there a trope for the background flashing when you defeat a certain boss? Examples include Mother Brain from Metroid and Super Metroid and most of the bosses from the flash game Nitrome Must Die
openAmbiguous Death
I want to know if there is something like when, you see some character(s) faint to to the floor after they('ve) done (an) action(s)note or if some other person could have did this to them, like (un)intentionally hit hard enough them it the head to make them unconscious or like, or poison them. that possibly killed them, put them in a coma, or simply just knocked them out unconscious. The next number of days, you would see that they still hadn't recover from the incident. There would be a possible chance that they're dead or still in a coma.

A character is trying to reach one person, but accidentally dials a different person instead, with hilarious results.
openThey know have something to lose
Another trope that I can't find is when two characters usually two loners, after some bonding, come to the realization that they will probably have to split ways eventually (possibly one of them has a convenient terminal illness?) and get sad for it
opendecides not to shoot
Do you have something when a character is about to shoot another character (possibly unbeknownst to the latter) but then decides not to do it?
openThe character knows, the author doesn't.
What's the trope for situations where a character has knowledge but can't demonstrate it because the author doesn't have that knowledge?
For example, character Bob speaks Swedish, but the author Alice doesn't. She doesn't have a Swede on hand and doesn't want to use a machine translation because she wouldn't know if it's correct or if Bob is spouting gibberish, so to remain on the safe side she has a POV character alongside Bob (who also doesn't speak Swedish) to get a translation from Bob.
openIdeas for cancelled work being used for later ones in the same franchise?
Apparently it's not Recycled Script so here I am asking.
My intention is to move the following from the deleted Spider-Man 4 script page. I wrote them under Recycled Script:
- Dr. Connors turning into the Lizard and being the film's antagonist (used in The Amazing Spider-Man).
- Felicia Hardy's appearance (used in The Amazing Spider-Man 2).
- A Love Interest of Spidey from the comics being Related in the Adaptation to the Vulture as his daughter (used in Spider-Man: Homecoming).
- Peter and MJ having marital problems (used in Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse).
- Quentin Beck's appearance (used in Spider-Man: Far From Home).
openWanting to be in jail
Does Captured on Purpose include situations where the character doesn't have a specific plan, but simply because the jail offers facilities that they otherwise don't have access to? e.g. a hungry Street Urchin wants to get in jail because he sees it as free room and board.
Edited by AdeptopenMale ballet dancers/gymnasts
Is there a trope for this: while in Real Life they usually wear skintight pants (which is silly by itself), fictional ones sometimes put on a skirt/tutu. Sometimes used for the man's humiliation.
I've seen this one in several places, but I don't exactly remember the examples.
EDIT: It is not about general feminine traits given to a man, but about portraying costumes inaccurately for the sake of comedy!
Edited by EugeneRavenopenUncle-Nephew Peers?
Do we have a trope for an uncle/aunt and their nephew/niece being in the same age bracket?
openYin-Yang Telepathy
Basically, there are two siblings, possibly twins, that have opposing personalities. Where my trope comes in is that normally, these opposing personalities put them at odds with each other, but when they work together on a single task, they almost "synchronize" to such a degree that one might argue that they're actually two halves of the same person.
openSupernatural non-vomit vomit
Best example is in Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets when Ron pukes slugs, but it also came up in last night's episode of Wynonna Earp when a character vomits frogs. Doesn't necessarily have to be icky creatures like slugs/frogs, could also be other stuff.
openGhost that haunts a person?
Is there a trope for when only one person can see a ghost, and possibly the ghost is bound to that person?
Warning nudity. youtube.com/watch?v=TH T1ep Txgi I
openCrazy person likes being that way?
Is there a trope for this? I can't think of an example of hand but there is a quote that goes "I don't suffer from mental illness, I love every minute of it."
openBelieved to be a god
A non-godly character, for whatever reason, is believed to be a god (typically by Hollywood Natives).
openHigh technology Monopoly
In which state of the art technology is restricted to only being used by a single group. For whatever reason (robot wars, cultural values, lost knowledge, etc) advanced technology (often computers and A.I.s) is restricted to a single faction that knows how to use it.
You see this quite a bit in Scifi: Dune had Ix (focusing on high tech mechanical stuff) and Telieaxu (radical bioengineering), Foundation has a monopoly on nuclear tech, Warhammer 40K has the Adeptus Mechanicus create the super cool weapons and equipment.
So I was wondering, is this a trope already?
Is there a trope for this? Not like the same food in a different "format" (e.g a beef steak verses a beef hamburger.) like unrelated foods that happen to taste the same, such as anise and black licorice.
