openEnoch last name on Team Coulsen page Live Action TV
There has been some issue over the character Enoch on the page https://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/article_history.php?article=Characters.MCUSHIELDTeamCoulson . In regards to his last name being Coltrane. At last ATT it was reverted due to no official confirmation to what his last name was. It was re-added that his last name was confirmed due to this scipt[1]. But I have searched online and have not seen any confirmation to his last name. If the script page was from an official part of AOS or the writers room would have left it at that but seeing as it is not then it can't be used as confirmation of Enoch's last name. Was going to revert but double checking just in case.
Edited by TuvokopenEpileptic Trees needs cleanup.
Epileptic Trees are in so need of cleanup I had no idea what it actually meant until a few minutes ago.
I don't think I've ever seen it used as a crazy theory, fan or otherwise, just for listing regular fan theories.
Even worse, many of them are not even theories at all, just a listing of a question that a theory could answer.
For an example, just look at Deltarune's Epileptic Trees.
Edited by pikachu17openFan video on a character page? Videogame
On Wolfenstein Enemies character page, on Frau Engel, there's a point below Kick The Dog that is: "A short cartoon animated by Mashed actually shows her stomping on a kitten, guts and all. It's certainly not something she'd be above doing in the canon series." There's a link to the video too.
There's the description on the video that goes by: " This video was made with the support of Bethesda Softworks, a Zeni Max Media Company."
I don't know if I should delete since it's a fan-made video and sounds like advertising, or keep since the description reads like the company paid them to make it so it's technically official. I'm leaning on delete but I don't know about this sort of stuff.
Edited by RaddishesopenCan we find Tropes in a paragraph? Web Original
Last year I asked a friend of mine to give me a Story Synopsis for SD Gundam Ultimate Battle, and instead she gave me the entire story. I've been working on a Sandbox page for Ultimate Battle and I think it looks good, but I want to add more non-spoiler tropes before I feel it's ready to upload. I've been thinking of sharing what my friend told me about Ultimate Battle's story on Trope Finder to see if they're anymore tropes to find in there.
Would that be alright, or would something like that be too abstract?
openSub-page with the wrong namespace Videogame
The page AlternateCharacterInterpretation.Doki Doki Literature Club was given the wrong namespace: it should be Alternative Character Interpretation. Can I recreate this page correctly and cutlist the existing one, or does this need mod approval?
openWhat goes where in a work page
If a work page has subpages for the characters and the episodes, can the trope entries be repeated at the main work page? Or should that one be limited to tropes with many examples and tropes that cover a greater part of the whole work (story arcs, the premise itself, etc)?
openAlbum Filler Music
Shouldn't Album Filler be YMMV? It doesn't have any examples apart from parodies and mentions, but it's linked on a lot of main music pages, and that seems pretty wrong unless there's a Word of God confirmation.
Edited by TropesForeveropenTwitch Plays Pokemon, Canon, and Fanon
So a little while ago we ran into an issue at the Nightmare Fuel thread over the now-cut page for NightmareFuel.Twitch Plays Pokemon, with one reason being that a lot of the examples came from fan interpretation, rather than the actual work.
However, as this comment shows, at least two tropers were campaigning to keep the page on the basis that the fanon is the work.
So that brought me to a difficult question; if the consensus was that Twitch Plays Pokemon should only have examples explicitly present in the work, then a vast majority of the page (and subpages) need to be cut or moved elsewhere. If the fanon is acceptable as part of the work, then that brings an interesting debate over what counts as being external or relevant to a work (for troping purposes).
So I guess I have two questions: Was the cut premature? And are fanon-specific examples allowed when it comes to works like this?
One thing I should make clear is that, by thread consensus, we habitually delete examples that aren't explicitly from the work themselves, such as Fridge Horror or speculation. But this is the first time a work seemed dependent on this fanon.
Edited by WarJay77openMarkup deletion
On WhamLine.Web Animation, here, imbouttoheadout deleted all the %% markup, and I can't tell if it should be reverted or not- if the examples were ZCEs or not.
Edited by WarJay77open"Would Hurt A Child" misuse
My Little Pony: Friendship Is Magic S9 E25 "The Ending of the End – Part 2"
- Would Hurt a Child: Discord and the sisters have no problem turning Cozy Glow to stone. Considering the crap she helped put the heroes though, it's justified.
- Would Hurt a Child: In the series finale, the six have no qualms about using physical force to subdue Cozy Glow. Given that she's an Enfant Terrible hopped up on alicorn-level power, this is absolutely justified.
This relates to the debate surrounding Cozy Glow here. As Would Hurt a Child is under Evil Tropes, I question if it's an example here as:
- Is it only meant to apply when harming the child is used/treated as a strike against their morality? In context it's a Shoot the Dog (attacking one dangerous and beyond redeeming) at worst. Good Is Not Soft might be better.
- Being turned to stone, which was shown to cause no lasting harm for those who had it reversed, was the alternative to bodily harm.
Thoughts?
open[Stock Phrase?] Let them talk Film
I was watching Toy Story 2 clips recently and came across saw this scene [1] which reminded me of this comic strip [2]◊ and I was wondering if they're spoofs of some classic quote (e.g. "Get your hands off me you damn dirty ape").
I'm pretty sure the quote doesn't count as a stock phrase but I don't watch film so I wouldn't know.
openAsking for a revert Webcomic
I would like to ask for a reversion of all latest changes by Geodude6 on the page Characters. The Order Of The Stick Northern Lands.
Those changes include removing an accepted denomination and replacing it with what is basically a Fan Nickname, obfuscating things seriously for whoever isn't familiar with the comic.
I could make the changes but I'm not sure to catch everything, plus I don't want to be accused of edit warring.
Edited by StFanopenMain trope not counting as an index?
I recently created a Excuse Plot page for DEATH BATTLE!. Someone told me through a PM to put it in an index, so I just put it on the main trope page because there was already an index for it. They later responded and said I did a "half-ass job" indexing it and that I should look for another page to put it on.
So I can't put a page for a bunch of examples for a trope on the main trope page itself?
openDo unaired pilots count as works? Web Original
I've been working on a Sandbox page for Doozy Bots, a cancelled American cartoon that only has a promo to its name. I feel that it's almost ready for proper launch, but I wanted to check if it's okay to make pages for a cancelled cartoon with only one promo? I remember seeing other pages on TVTropes for cancelled works, and I still want to release this as an official page for historic reasons.
openJadabunz
Troper Jadabunz might need a tap-on-the-shoulder as far as the TLP goes. They've been making substandard drafts, but that's not what really concerns me. What does worry me is the fact that they don't seem to have the patience required to actually attempt to fix their draft.
They rage-discarded here and here, didn't listen to criticism here... and here, they didn't even stay around for discussion.
The key seems to be that they can't handle getting criticism on their drafts, but they're also too impatient to actually stick around and try to make their drafts better. While they claim to be making an effort, they've not improved. And they'll never improve if they won't take their time.
Edited by WarJay77openFan community page
I just stumbled into Captalia, which is a "capslock fan-community for the series Axis Powers Hetalia, hosted on LiveJournal." It even has a "character" page with the community members, and most of the pages are filled with No Context Examples.
Is it allowed to have pages for fan communities? If it is, Manga seems like the wrong namespace for it and the page will need some cleanup.
Edited by BlackMage43openAgainst The Moon
The rather-recent page Against the Moon is in bad shape, missing even a description. I'd messaged the creator Eternally_Green about it on the 5th, and received three sniping replies basically calling me rude for sending a standard context notifier. They also said they'd fix it at their own pace...and have not.
I'd normally send another PM, but would rather not piss them off. I'd also normally give the page a routine clean-up, but with the lack of a description, it's a stub, and that's not something that can be fixed just by hiding a few ZCEs.
openNo Title
lexiestarlight is making badly-formatted pages for works that don't seem to exist, like Glass Delusion.
I'm really not sure which box this goes in and I'm asking more for advice and guidance - but this relates to the Kayfabe page under Real Life, and I'm wondering if according to tvt rules this is a legitimate entry. It relates to an online model called Lily May, describes what she does, and stressing this is not her real-life persona, but a role she plays for professional purposes. The links when followed, plus image searches, take you to what really amount to soft-core porn pages and in this light, the entry reads like special pleading for why an entry about a porn actress should be included on tvtropes; it doesn't read as if anything here is extraordinary enough to be included on tv tropes over and above "this woman is a professional soft-core porn performer and this is not who she is when she is not doing porn" - which is something any woman in the porn industry could legitimately state about herself?
So, does this contravene the "no porn" rule? I suspect it does and it's worth raisng here for a ruling.
