Have a question about how the TVTropes wiki works? No one knows this community better than the people in it, so ask away! Ask the Tropers is the page you come to when you have a question burning in your brain and the support pages didn't help.
It's not for everything, though. For a list of all the resources for your questions, click here. You can also go to this Directory thread
for ongoing cleanup projects.
On one hand, I would also support deleting that example for being misuse and blatant political flame bait. But on the other, Anvils is a notoriously misused trope, and I don't even know what it's supposed to mean anymore, so it should have at the very least gone through a cleanup thread.
Anyway, have any notifiers been sent?
^ I don't know how to send a notifier. How would I? Or should someone else do it?
Also I wasn't calling for the example to be restored, I was more concerned with the rude edit reason.
TRS Queue | Works That Require Cleanup Of Complaining | Troper WallI already sent a notifier for the ZCE issue, but for future reference, on the edit history page, there's a bit that says "Is there an issue? Send a Message", and that's where notifiers live.
Trouble Cube continues to be a general-purpose forum for those who desire such a thing.Alright I sent a rudeness notifier. We'll see what happens from here.
TRS Queue | Works That Require Cleanup Of Complaining | Troper WallI don't believe anyone in Pokémon Black and White was saying any group of people don't deserve rights (the main debate was about Pokémon rights), so Queen Adrian is jumping to the extreme. The example wasn't saying you should get along with open White supremacists/neo-Nazis.
Keet cleanupI think the example should be removed because it's a misuse of Some Anvils Need to Be Dropped, but that doesn't excuse the rudeness or accusing the original poster of supporting White Supremacists/Neo-Nazis.
... wait, where did mention of white supremacy or Neo-Nazis come from?
That said, yeah. Cut it for not being an example. It's "this anvil is good" which... well, honestly is kinda debatable if you keep in mind "trying to get along with those that disagree with you" has been considered a major weakness of the Democratic party by most for several years.
Edited by Larkmarn Found a Youtube Channel with political stances you want to share? Hop on over to this page and add them. The thing that brought in white supremacy and stuff is that "different views" is a very broad term, and phrases like the one in the deleted example, "get along with people who have different views from yourself", are frequently used by bad actors as a dogwhistle for things like "minorities stop opposing people who want them dead", or by very naive people who don't actually understand that there's actual substance to the "disagreement" and act like it's as arbitrary as one's shipping preferences.
But then, y'know, there are loads of political disagreements that are a lot less black and white that people still treat with the same "disagreeing with me can only possibly be out of deliberate hatred and bigotry" energy.
Trouble Cube continues to be a general-purpose forum for those who desire such a thing.Plus the game depicts political/ideological extremists in the wrong, if I remember correctly (I was ten when I played it, so forgive me for not picking up the political nuances of Pokemon at the time). It's not even about politics, so the example should be rewritten to be less specific because it's already pissing people off and the anvil (if you can even call it that) applies to more than just politics.
I do some cleanup and then I enjoy shows you probably think are cringe.Yeah, the context in the game is nonpolitical, so even if the example is valid, it should probably be re-written to not be about political issues.
Reaction Image RepositoryIf anything the aesop in Pokemon is more about seeing the other side and not immediately judging your enemy as evil- which, again, in the case of the actual games is valid because not every Plasma member was evil and the only truly evil characters were the extremists who weren't in it for what they claimed they were. It's not political at all and it's not even really the aesop they're claiming it is, though you can certainly get them conflated.
Currently Working On: Incorruptible Pure PurenessFWIW, as someone asked earlier, Some Anvils Need to Be Dropped is about a work that is praised for the unsubtle nature of its message. So it's not "it takes a good stance on this issue", it's "people were happy that it very overtly took a stance on this issue." In this case, 100% misuse.
Edited by Dirtyblue929SANTBD is such a widely misused item that at this point cutting misuse would probably cut 95% of the examples, so I wouldn't even bother until we do another TRS on it.
I do some cleanup and then I enjoy shows you probably think are cringe.Yeah, it's really not worth it yet.
Currently Working On: Incorruptible Pure PurenessWoah I wasn't talking about the example's validity, I was talking about the edit reason being rude. I agree that the example is invalid, I was just saying that the troper in question was being rude in their edit reason.
TRS Queue | Works That Require Cleanup Of Complaining | Troper WallI was actually under the impression that there was already a consensus towards cutting Some Anvils Need to Be Dropped as "Anvilicious But Good."
Didn't they just make an useless trope out of it instead?
(Don't) take me home.^ Nah, that's Anvil of the Story.
Trouble Cube continues to be a general-purpose forum for those who desire such a thing.Anvil of the Story? I agree if failed to help. SANTBD will be taken to TRS once the backlog clears out and we see how/if Anvilicious is being used.
Meanwhile, the Pokemon example can be cut as merely mentioning it means it's not heavy handed about it nor is it the central message.
I am not restoring the example nor did I ever intend to. The only reason I made this ATT thread is because I was concerned about rudeness in the troper's edit reason and them uncommenting out ZC Es (both of which have already been dealt with.) Everyone here is talking about the entry-I explicitly stated "regardless of the context" that the edit reason was rude. We don't really need to do much here, Some Anvils Need to Be Dropped is already getting a wick check over at the dedicated forum thread for that, I have already sent a rudeness notifier to the troper in question, and a mod sent a ZCE notifier as well.
Sorry if I sounded upset, I just wanted to make sure people know this ATT was not about the example in question.
TRS Queue | Works That Require Cleanup Of Complaining | Troper Wall
It was brought up on the ZCE thread that Queen Adrian uncommented out some ZC Es without adding context on Webcomic.Pandoras Tale. I looked through their edit history to see if this was frequent behavior and I ended up finding that they deleted this entry on SomeAnvilsNeedToBeDropped.Video Games:
With the edit reason:
"Oh, fuck off. People's rights are not on a similar scale to whether or not pineapple goes on pizza."
Regardless of context, the edit reason was quite rude. Didn't find a lot of other problems looking through their edits (granted I didn't look a lot, maybe there are others but I didn't see them on a cursory glance) but based on what I did find should something be done?
