Have a question about how the TVTropes wiki works? No one knows this community better than the people in it, so ask away! Ask the Tropers is the page you come to when you have a question burning in your brain and the support pages didn't help.
It's not for everything, though. For a list of all the resources for your questions, click here. You can also go to this Directory thread
for ongoing cleanup projects.
Not sure if it's related, but it's certainly relevant. In YMMV.Reservoir Dogs, dmcreif changed "unarmed, defenseless black people" to ""unarmed" black criminals" (Scare Quotes included). That strikes me as bad taste, to put it mildly.
Edited by RoundRobin - Fly, robin, fly! - ...I'm trying! While I might take that entry to the Hindsight cleanup to see if it counts as one of those "police brutality didn't exist until the 2010's" entries, that's an incredibly biased edit. One could argue "unarmed" and "defenseless" are redundant so the original entry wasn't great, but the Scare Quotes and definitive ruling of "criminals" is extremely suspect.
I do some cleanup and then I enjoy shows you probably think are cringe.woof. Yeah, while that entry wasn't perfect, that edit is terrible.

I tend to wonder if drive-by discarders realize that discarded drafts can be restored in two seconds. If they intend to actually stop the draft from launching they're hilariously bad at doing so.
Current Project: Incorruptible Pure PurenessI've already said this before, but the amount of bombs on the draft concerns me that there could be a group push to get the page unlaunched. I've seen many people try to refute the draft with the usual "violating ROCEJ" excuse, which would be valid in other cases, but definitely not here because the movement is a major historical event that already affected media in a short span of time.
That, and my related query about a troper who claimed we were "shoving the movement down their throats", which sounds very strawman-ish to say the least.
I really don't know how they can "unlaunch" it. A darn good cutlist reason?
Once it's up the worst that can really happen is that it gets vandalized, restored, locked, and the vandals suspended.
Edited by SynchronicityTheoretically they could go to TLP Crash Rescue and make up vague complaints about poorly-defined unresolved issues.
They'd have to fool a mod into cooperating with them, though.
Trouble Cube continues to be a general-purpose forum for those who desire such a thing.^ Or I guess vandalize it in order to show how much they hate the movement and everything related to it.
To quote Larkmarn, "It's written fairly neutrally and frankly if "being reminded of the fact people are protesting racism" angers some people, then fantastic, I'm pretty sure they're people we don't want here."
I don't want to assume mal-intent with people crying ROCEJ because they may be genuinely concerned about discussing modern political issues here, but there's nothing ROCEJ about the draft itself and as-is it's just a pretty neutral retelling of events and an analysis of how they've impacted media- which is all Useful Notes has to be.
Current Project: Incorruptible Pure Pureness@ Mewtron: I don't think the entry is valid. Pink said that Blonde can't be an undercover cop because he indiscriminately opened fire on civilians (black and white) and that at least one young black girl was killed.
I don't see why the Black Lives Matter movement shouldn't have a Useful Notes page. Cultural significance aside, it's affecting media as well; off the top of my head, Brooklyn Nine-Nine scrapped its Season 8 script and started over in order to address concerns raised by the BLM movement. I'm pretty sure there are — or there will be — more examples.
- Fly, robin, fly! - ...I'm trying!Oh yeah for what it's worth I did send mewt a PM like two minutes after the rogue discard about how it's a bad practice but have gotten no response yet.
Definitely sounds like an agenda. Hope a mod keeps an eye on them.
I can't deal with these forums; they anger up the blood too much.^ We are. They're suspended.
she/her | TRS needs your help! | Contributor of Trope ReportFor the record, I reverting the wording on YMMV.Reservoir Dogs to remove the nonsensical scare quotes and, uh, liesnote . I also added a little more context to make it more of an example.
Found a Youtube Channel with political stances you want to share? Hop on over to this page and add them.Come to think, Bnsaunders made a similar edit to Derek Chauvin's entry on Meaningful Name, with similar reasoning. I've just now come across this thread, and what I've read reminded me of that edit.
Edited by ryanasaurus0077^ Oh boy, let's see here... Not counting the one null edit, five of the seven edits made by Bnsaunders are politically charged.
- The edit mentioned above claims that George Floyd was not murdered and the one cop should be referred to as the "alleged" murderer. They also made this change on Trivia.Family Guy.
- They removed "bias" on WrittenByTheWinners.Real Life; said "bias" was referring to racism as a bad thing.
- The edit on YMMV.Fight Club removed the specific names of alt-right militia groups in an attempt to claim that they're not really alt-right militia groups.
- On CommonKnowledge.Live Action Films, they claimed that capitalizing "Black" when it's referring to the ethnic group is a "spelling error". Not sure if that's true or not, but it is pretty suspicious given all the other things they did.
They said that "bias" was referring to racism as a bad thing? Hooboy...
And yeah, if you really want to give them the benefit of the doubt, maybe you could portray it as a "Do we really need to point out that racism is bad?'' thing, or maybe reason that if we do point out that racism is bad, it implies that racism isn't obviously bad and the badness needs to be pointed out.
But that's academic, because that's not the feeling I'm getting from this troper.
I think this troper needs their own thread, guys.
Current Project: Incorruptible Pure PurenessI've suspended "this troper", but yes, one thread per troper.
"For a successful technology, reality must take precedence over public relations, for Nature cannot be fooled." - Richard Feynman
mewt rogue-discarded a Useful Notes draft for the Black Lives Matter movement despite a net positive hat count and no calls for discard. On its own, that's just normal bad troper protocol, but (thanks to homogenized for catching this) apparently their only edit in the past year was to change "George Floyd's murder" to "George Floyd's death" with an edit reason of "accuracy." They've made about one or two edits a year (they were last regularly active in 2013) that don't appear connected to racism debates, but their recent behavior combined looks like an agenda.
