Have a question about how the TVTropes wiki works? No one knows this community better than the people in it, so ask away! Ask the Tropers is the page you come to when you have a question burning in your brain and the support pages didn't help.
It's not for everything, though. For a list of all the resources for your questions, click here. You can also go to this Directory thread
for ongoing cleanup projects.
This sounds like an unclear name issue, which would in turn be a TRS issue. While I like the current name, if it's contributing to misuse it needs to go. I don't think just clean-up will do—renaming the trope may cut down on misuse.
First though, you'll need to do a wick check.
- How to Do a Wick Check and the Wick Check Project thread — the former tells you, well, how to do a wick check, and the latter can give you help with actually doing the wick check. In this case, you'd need to check 50 wicks.
- Once a wick check is done, and if misuse is proven, just put your prospective thread on the TRS Queue, and you'll be pinged/your thread launched (depending on which you prefer) once your slot is reached.
Is there anything you need clarification on? Or do you not want to take it to TRS?
TRS Queue | Works That Require Cleanup Of Complaining | Troper WallAs a Canadian myself, I also think the description is a bit too Americentric as if to tell American users that "yes, Canadian characters up north are weird and nothing like us", which is just perpetuating a gross stereotype about Canadians in general.
I mean... that's the trope, though. The trope is "a gross stereotype about Canadians in general", especially regarding how American media portrays them.
Currently Working On: Incorruptible Pure Pureness@themayorofsimpleton I don't think I need any clarification, though I rarely ever participate in trope-correcting/clean-up, nor instigating discussions on said topics (first time for everything?), so I'm not 100% certain if I will take it to TRS.
But with the unclear name issue and instances of possible misuse, I may bring up the issues with Canada Eh to some other tropers in the relevant threads to at least spread awareness of this and get some discussion going.
@WarJay77 Actually, about that, I've seen the trope linked to entries that outright state that the work was made in Canada (though, often failing to detail how the trope applies).
Edited by GalaxyLight777 "I know we'll make it cause somehow, the universe is fun now!" ~SanaRelated to Jay's comment, I brought up TRS because if the trope is "stereotype about Canadians" and the use is "anything that happens to be Canadian", that's a possible TRS issue assuming the name is the issue.
I may do a wick check myself sometime to see if that's the use.
^ That's fine. I think I may actually TRS this sometime if my aforementioned wick check proves a problem.
Edited by themayorofsimpleton TRS Queue | Works That Require Cleanup Of Complaining | Troper Wall^^ I mean, sure, but that's not correct usage. The trope is about Canadian stereotypes, and these are stereotypes, and it's not gonna be nearly as likely for Canadian productions to use these stereotypes unless they're riffing on them, much like how an American work isn't going to use the blonde, gun-obsessed, flag-wearing stereotype of Anime (and if it does, it will be one super conservative character out of a whole cast).
Edited by WarJay77 Currently Working On: Incorruptible Pure PurenessLetting it be known that I've started the Canada Eh Wick Check. Only one correct use so far out of 5—I will continue later.
TRS Queue | Works That Require Cleanup Of Complaining | Troper Wall^ I'll probably pitch in. Seems pretty cut and dry.
Vehicle Based Characterization | Grief Induced Split | Locker MailNoting here that I, Yindee, and 𝕋𝕒𝕓𝕤 completed the check. There was enough misuse for a rename—I put it on the TRS Queue myself with an OP I wrote up.
Edited by themayorofsimpleton TRS Queue | Works That Require Cleanup Of Complaining | Troper WallI will just say that this sounds like the same issue that was plaguing Welcome to the Caribbean, Mon! (and Hula and Luaus) that I suspect is a broader issue with Hollywood Atlas and National Stereotypes tropes. FWIW, I took both of those tropes to TRS; the former was redirected to UsefulNotes. The Caribbean and the latter was slightly rewritten and cleaned.

Patiently awaiting the release of Paper Luigi and the Marvelous Compass.
Canada Eh is meant for stereotypical portrayals of Canadian citizens/the whole country, according to the Laconic. But from various entries that link the trope, its instead labelled as for characters that are merely Canadian or have some minor relation to the state, no matter how small.
Also I, as a fellow Canadian, find the description unbelievably offensive and long winded.RANT CLARIFICATION
Regardless, I think the description is missing clarity on the trope being about portrayals of Canada in media, and it appears to be a chairs magnet from the few entries I've seen. Some clean-up might be advised.
