Find a Trope:
openCensored in Other Countries
Do we have a trope where a scene in a TV show is allowed in its original country but censored in another country where the show airs?
openNo Title Videogame
In Final Fantasy XIV, an NPC casts Break in a cutscene. This spell was once accessible to players, but was removed — ironically, in the very same update which added this cutscene.
My first thought was that this is Gameplay and Story Segregation, but on reflection that doesn't seem quite correct; the NPC in question could just have access to resources the players don't (he also casts Vanish, which has never been player-accessible). Is there a trope for this situation?
openexit awkward situation
A situation has gotten awkward, so a character makes their exit.
openAre You Happy Now?
When a character asks a certain type of Armor-Piercing Question regarding if an action, seen as questionable or wrong by the one asking, has caused things to improve or, as the question suggests, has caused them to be happy. It would be similar to And Then What? with the main difference being that this would be said after a person performs said questionable or bad action as opposed to before.
Edited by aa1205openBoth Sides Were Wrong
- Both characters realizing that had they done their respective parts in preventing a situation, they wouldn't be here talking about it.
openSubtle Crossover
- A writer of two novel series', which shares the same universe, wants to do a crossover but he doesn't want it to be gimmicky. So, he subletly has a few characters from one series appear in the other series and lets the readers put two and two together.
openEven You Know That's BS
- A character accuses another character of doing something so out-of-character that even the latter responds by saying, "Even you know that's ridiculous."
openTransfer Blame
Is this situation completely Never My Fault, Victim Blaming, or something else?
Bob is in charge of enforcing discipline in an Army of Thieves and Whores. One day the order comes that there is to be no pillaging in the city they're attacking. Bob relays the order as "Any of you bastards is found pillaging, I'll break both his arms and drop him off at the medic's tent. And they already have enough to deal with without adding self-inflicted injuries, so any treatment they give you will be half-hearted, rushed, and expensive!" He goes on to make good on this threat several times (and the medics are indeed grumpy at dealing with Bob's victims and take it out on them) before the pillaging drops off.
Obviously these injuries aren't self-inflicted, but the pillagers are treated (by Bob and the medics) as though they deliberately injured themselves just to waste the medics (and Bob's) time. And Bob doesn't ever consider himself as being at fault for several soldiers being useless in combat, because after all, he warned them.

What tropes would cover Silly Love Songs where guys sing about shy, insecure girls who don't wear make-up. For example Before You Exit's "I Like That" and One Republic's "You Don't Know You're Beautiful". Girl Next Door? Unkempt Beauty?
openSilly buck teeth
Is there a trope where characters with noticeable buck teeth are considered silly?
openTheme Naming - Rhymes
Do we have that subcategory? Surely you will offhand find more examples than Huey, Dewey and Louis...
openHeart Strike
An "injury" trope about the heart (the organ) getting attacked, possibly leading to death.
Do we have it?
opencartoon slapstick trope where a character's eyes get replaced with round things Western Animation
For example, if a cartoon character gets their head smashed into a pool table, they'll have pool balls stuck in their eye sockets when they lift their head.
Same thing can happen with any round object of the right size.
I am 100% certain I've seen this in Tom & Jerry and probably a few other old cartoons.
open Speech/thought bubble action triggers Videogame
In Honkai Impact 3rd, in the dorms, every now and then a Valkyrie will have a small blue thought bubble appear over her head. When this happens, this indicates an action that the player can do with her to potentially increase her happiness meter and/or receive an award. To trigger the action, the player has to either tap on the Valkyrie or drag her to a specific part of the room (like a bookcase or someplace she can sit). I'll be surprised if we don't have something for this kind of action indicator, but I can't find what it could be.
Edited by Willbyropensympathetic accessory
A situation where some parts of a person's attire react in a manner similar to their wearer. For example, a necklace that reacts to the wearer's physical state: When they're sad, the gem's colors become desaturated; When they're angry, it starts to glow; And if they die, it spontaneously shatters for seemingly no reason a few seconds later, leaving only the necklace itself.
openRegional Jokes in Live Shows
In a touring live show (theatre, stand-up etc) when there is a line/joke/reference that is specific to the city the show is currently in.
Eg 1: In the live tour of Little Britain, a character makes fun of a town - the town mentioned would be one that was near where the show was being held and presumably where some of the audience would be from
eg 2: In Catherine Tate Live, a sketch involved a couple recounting an unenjoyable holiday. The punchline of the sketch is that their holiday destination was the city of where the show is currently being held.
Closest I can think is that its a specific case of Cultural Translation
EDIT: more detail on example
Edited by iloveserperioropenCensored for Nonexistent Content
A work is censored/banned (or requested to be censored/banned) due to content that simply isn't there. For example, a work may be accused of containing "sexual content" when there is none whatsoever, and one can only assume this stemmed from implied romantic interests within the work.
This is different from a work being censored/banned for something most people consider silly, because even if you consider it silly to ban the work on those terms, the Moral Guardians may be right about the content being present.
openLight is Lawfull/ Dark is Chaotic
I've heard of the tropes "Light is not Good" and "Dark is not Evil" before, but the more I think of it, I realize that light and Dark are more often depicted as Lawful and Chaotic than other things. And yet, I can't find these tropes.
Edited by RvanopenCharacter Reveals Trait of An Unreliable Narrator
An Unreliable Narrator will depict themselves and other people through a lens heavily distorted by their own perceptions and intentions—hence why they're "unreliable." Thus, many things the Unreliable Narrator make you believe about them are not true. Do we have a trope for when another character says something within a work that reveals something about the true nature of an Unreliable Narrator?
An example of this would be an Unreliable Narrator painting themselves as a calm, composed person—but then a character states offhandedly in the work that the aforementioned character is a Nervous Wreck.
A video game enemy that is out in the open but will not move or attack until you get close. May be disguised as part of the scenery or just standing there for creepy effect.
