Daily Mail rumor: Emma Watson is planning to retire from acting.
It's the Daily Mail , but considering she's been off social media for a while, I wouldn't doubt it, but it's a rumor until she outright says it.
"We're all paper, we're all scissors, we're all fightin' with our mirrors, scared we'll never find somebody to love."Could this be WB's fate as well? AT&T is spinning out DirecTV in a $16.25 billion deal with TPG Capital.
"The devil's got all the good gear. What's God got? The Inspiral Carpets and nuns. Fuck that." - Liam GallagherOnce again the Daily Mail is the Daily Fail because Emma Watson is not retiring.
Why the UK hasn't shut down Daily Mail for publishing info (isn't that illegal in the UK anyway?) is beyond me.
"The devil's got all the good gear. What's God got? The Inspiral Carpets and nuns. Fuck that." - Liam GallagherBecause you don't just shut down news papers like that,it just isn't done

Movie chains continue to suffer as Alamo Drafthouse filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy today. That's the one where you restructure under court guidance to deal with debts, not liquidate.
AMC Theaters report a quarterly loss of $946.1 million, adding up to a 2020 loss of $4.58 billion according to The Hollywood Reporter.
The full-year 2020 loss came to $4.58 billion, against a year-earlier full-year loss of $149.1 million, or a per-share loss of $39.15, compared to a year-earlier $1.44 loss. As of March 5, AMC said it had opened 527 of its 589 domestic theaters, and around 78 percent of its 356 international locations.
On an earnings call with investors, Aron touted that studios were lining up their major theatrical releases — like Black Widow, Top Gun: Maverick and F9 — for the summer season. "The CE Os of two major studios each told me that a good metaphor for AMC’s circumstance is that we are La Guardia Airport closed by a thunderstorm with tons of planes circling overhead all waiting and needing to land," he said.
Aron estimated that around 40 major movie titles delayed from a 2020 release will hit AMC screens starting in May.
Well this is a surprise to me, apparently Angels on the Outfield, the 94 version, isn't available at all in any mainstream streaming platform? I wonder why.
According to Polygon, citing Deadline, WarnerMedia will not be continuing their simul-release of theatrical films on HBO Max in 2022.
Cinemas were going to potentially go belly up if people had no reason to go to them, and box offices, for better or for worse, is still a tremendous revenue stream. They were going to try and keep that revenue alive.
Laika, the film studio best known for its stop motion features like Coraline and Kubo and the Two Strings, is stepping into a fully live-action film adapting John Brownlow’s upcoming Action Thriller debut novel, Seventeen.
No, seriously, the American-based Deadline announced this on March 31st.
“For the past 15 years, Laika has been committed to making movies that matter,” he said. “Across mediums and genres, our studio has fused art, craft and technology in service of bold, distinctive and enduring stories. With Seventeen, Laika is taking that philosophy in an exciting new direction.”
“Seventeen is a stiff cocktail of wicked wit, exhilarating action and raw emotion,” Knight added. “John has such a wonderfully unique voice. He’s crafted a brilliant universe with its own powerful identity. Seventeen is a thriller with soul, a sinuous adrenaline-fueled actioner with a sincere heart beating underneath its rippling pectorals.”

Yikes. Looks like AT&T is already giving up on WarnerMedia.
Merger talks are now taking place with Discovery Communications. Yes, that Discovery.

"The devil's got all the good gear. What's God got? The Inspiral Carpets and nuns. Fuck that." - Liam GallagherThey're not giving up, they're trying to add to it. More debt!
Edit - I misread it. Looks like they want Discovery to take on the whole assets to focus on media while AT&T sticks with its core telecom business. Which makes sense.
Wonder if Discovery would have kept Crunchyroll around.

I dunno. Discovery hasn't been into the scripted entertainment biz, so anime they probably care even less about.
Seems to me AT&T's going to do with WarnerMedia what they also did to DirecTV and try to convince investors it doesn't matter anymore despite potentially still owning a majority stake in the company.

"The devil's got all the good gear. What's God got? The Inspiral Carpets and nuns. Fuck that." - Liam GallagherI'm only asking because at this point it feels like companies want all the content, rather than trying to focus on one specific area. Netflix is the biggest example of that admittedly, but even Peacock out and out bought the WWE Network (to the dismay of fans as they began to censor racially offensive material).

Funnily enough this isn't even the first time WarnerMedia and Discovery are talking. They were in talks about jointly operating what would end up becoming HBO Max (so that the service didn't have to rely exclusively on truTV for unscripted material) before the two decided to go their own ways. In hindsight, whoops.

"The devil's got all the good gear. What's God got? The Inspiral Carpets and nuns. Fuck that." - Liam GallagherTIL we don't have a Highlander thread.
It's actually kinda surprising and mildly frustrating because we're getting a reboot with Henry Cavill in talks as the lead and directed by Chad Stahelski. You might know him from his indie movie called JOHN WICK.

Hey, anyone remember how Sylvester Stallone said he was doing a director's cut of Rocky IV that ditches the robot?
Said director's cut, now called Rocky vs. Drago, is coming November 11th!
Amblin Partners signs multi-year production deal with Netflix. The pact will exist alongside Amblin's Universal deal (Universal is a minority partner in Amblin).
On the one hand, good on Netflix for getting one of the biggest Hollywood filmmakers out there. On the other hand, does it even fix Netflix's "franchise problem"? Because being a prestigious brand can really only get you so far.

During Viacom's Investor Event, they promised to shorten the home release window of their movies, from theaters to their streaming service Paramount+, to 45 days compared to the standard "at least 90". The following movies will be affected by this decision, with their current theatrical release dates:
