I remember playing this site back around 2002 or so. The Neopian "economy" was one of the most amazing scams in human history back then; I can't imagine what it's like now. How much are those stupid codestones? When I started they were around 3,000. Are they now 10,000? 50,000? 100,000? More?

Now that it's an organ of a huge media conglomerate rather than an independent production, I bet it rips you off in Real Life too.

Codestones are about 5,000 now.

It would be a lot easier for me if you imagine there's something funny or interesting here.

They deflated? I remember them going up beyond 10,000 shortly before I left.

I still go back to it every once in a while, for no particular reason, beyond staying in touch with someone......it's depressing how much nonfun people go through playing it........

The main reason why they deflated was because of Keyquest, which also deflated quite a few paintbrushes too.

I just discovered an item called the "Amulet of Inevitable Betrayal." The item description says "Its laugh is an evil laugh!"

I lol'd.

It would be a lot easier for me if you imagine there's something funny or interesting here.

You know, I personally think that the site Jumping the Shark rather suddenly is more than made up for by the fact that it is absolutely loaded with Parental Bonus.

It would be a lot easier for me if you imagine there's something funny or interesting here.

I think that Neopets used to be one of my fave sites until Viacom scared most of the mature gamers away, I can't get my head over the sheer sparklyness which is Faerieland... And they need better (and more PLOTS) nowadays I am just idling on Neopets with too many Subliminal Message for Neocash... I miss the good ol' days. Now I can't stand looking at my pets constantly sad faces... And I still hadn't found paintbrushes for them

OC stand in for clearance. Welcome to the Sprylite Zone.

Used to play it, hate it now.

And since Viacom owns the site they may as well greet people with the V of Doom sound every time it loads.

Oh god, I don't even remember how long ago since I played this...

I think it may have been when they started changing art for the first(?) time, all I remember is that lines got thicker if that gives any indication. I never went on it since then... I also don't remember anything involving cash, so it must've been awhile ago.

One thing I do remember seeing a shop that had Beatles images, too bad I didn't get into them a couple of years ago.

What amuses me is that, when Neopets was first bought by Viacom, some worried person submitted a worried letter to the staff asking if anything was going to change.

"No, there won't be any major changes" they said.

I still played fairly recently. Never completed a plot, although I did do an Altador Cup and do decently because I picked the 3rd place team. I never thought Neopets would have anything so close to grinding, but there it is.

I remember my initial attraction to it when I was 8 or something was watching someone sitting in front of the computer haggle for a Faerie Bubble. Strawberry in fact. I have no idea why but the whole thing is just burned into my mind deeper than a lot of things that are way more important. Everyone at my school played it. You could literally not talk to anyone without playing it. Good times.

...Viacom bought out Neopets?

-goes to check-

Oh, things have changed since I left. Well, even more so. So, Viacom was responsible for neocash? We are not amused.

I used to play. I rejoined a couple of years ago for a couple of weeks in hopes of a war hitting. Wars are the only interesting "plots" as far as I am concerned.

But like others have said, Neopets was my first introduction to forums. I grew from wide-eyed newbie to cynical veteran who bypassed anti-abuse rules by being intelligent and levelheaded while criticizing people. I also learned to RP there, though the only decent places were guilds. And then they added word limits to guild posts so I finally moved off the site.

I remember this site... I recall loving it, but gradually growing more and more alienated from it as everything gradually became more and more cutesy and sugary. I remember having an alien (that green Martiany-looking thing), a little ratty thing with a freakin' long tail, and a fox.

Regarding the new plot, some of the puzzles are ridiculous and I love them.

I played waaaaaay back in the day - I started back when the Bruce was an actual butler, and you could make Theme Parks, which was really, really dope. Oh, and the murder mystery was fun.

I actually played everyday for quite a while (this game, like Maple Story does nowadays, instilled in me a casual exasperation for player economies which didn't really get challenged until I played Puzzle Pirates), and casually every-once-in-a-while afterwarsd for a few years, and I really liked it, but then I forgot my password or something because one day I stopped being able to log in. I think my store is even still there: Kiko Kool's something-or-other. I didn't own a Kiko.

If anyone's interested in an update, they just had a plot going on, The Faeries' Ruin. It's all over the Neo Pets TV Tropes page, don't worry.

Faerie paintbrushes went from a a decent price of 4 million (for it being retired and all) to a whopping 300K because it was a plot prize.

Talk about supply and demand.

It's been over 2 years but here we are again Neopets finally has another plot starting. Six factions fighting over the Mc Guffin Location and the battle begins in six days. Thoughts on developments?

The last time I was ever really active on that site, it was when floppy disks were still the in thing.

I remember when Cybunnys were the new pet on the block. I never was able to earn any of that currency for Krawk Island.

I remember this site! I used to play in middle school. Haven't touched it since freshman year, though. I remember the llama-looking pets came out shortly before I left, if that indicates anything. It was stupid, but it was fun at the time.

The forums were horrible, though, especially the roleplaying section. If you ever want a crash course on how NOT to roleplay, go over and take a look.

Anyone remember when they insisted that they'd never have ads on their site? By the time I left, they had banner ads everywhere.

I played way back. I remember paint brushes and transmogrification potions being frighteningly expensive. I mostly used the website for the games anyway.
