During the investigation of recent hollers in the Complete Monster thread, it's become apparent to the staff that an insular, unfriendly culture has evolved in the Complete Monster and Magnificent Bastard threads that is causing problems.
Specific issues include:
- Overzealous hollers on tropers who come into the threads without being familiar with all the rules and traditions of the tropes. And when they are familiar with said rules and traditions, they get accused (with little evidence) of being ban evaders.
- A few tropers in the thread habitually engage in snotty, impolite mini-modding. There are also regular complaints about excessive, offtopic "socializing" posts.
- Many many thread regulars barely post/edit anywhere else, making the threads look like they are divorced from the rest of TV Tropes.
- Following that, there are often complaints about the threads and their regulars violating wiki rules, such as on indexing, crosswicking, example context and example categorization. Some folks are working on resolving the issues, but...
- Often moderator action against thread regulars leads to a lot of participants suddenly showing up in the moderation threads to protest and speak on their behalf, like a clique.
It is not a super high level problem, but it has been going on for years and we cannot ignore it any longer. There will be a thread in Wiki Talk to discuss the problem; in the meantime there is a moratorium on further Complete Monster and Magnificent Bastard example discussion until we have gotten this sorted out.
Update: The new threads have been made and can be found here:
Please see the Frequently Asked Questions and Common Requests List before suggesting any new entries for this trope.
IMPORTANT: To avoid a holler to the mods, please see here for the earliest date a work can be discussed, (usually two weeks from the US release), as well as who's reserved discussion.
When voting, you must specify the candidate(s). No blanket votes (i.e. " to everyone I missed").
No plagiarism: It's fair to source things, but an effortpost must be your own work and not lifted wholesale from another source.
We don't care what other sites think about a character being a Complete Monster. We judge this trope by our own criteria. Repeatedly attempting to bring up other sites will earn a suspension.
What is the Work
Here you briefly describe the work in question and explain any important setting details. Don't assume that everyone is familiar with the work in question.
Who is the Candidate and What have they Done?
This will be the main portion of the Effort Post. Here you list all of the crimes committed by the candidate. For candidates with longer rap sheets, keep the list to their most important and heinous crimes, we don't need to hear about every time they decide to do something minor or petty.
Do they have any Mitigating Factors or Freudian Excuse?
Here you discuss any potential redeeming or sympathetic features the character has, the character's Freudian Excuse if they have one, as well as any other potential mitigating factors like Offscreen Villainy or questions of moral agency. Try to present these as objectively as possible by presenting any evidence that may support or refute the mitigating factors.
Do they meet the Heinousness Standard?
Here you compare the actions of the Candidate to other character actions in the story in order to determine if they stand out or not. Remember that all characters, not just other villains, contribute to the Heinousness Standard
Final Verdict?
Simply state whether or not you think the character counts or not.

ACW, could we please get off this? It doesn't matter if a work is Trope Overdosed, if a story doesn't go out of its way to portray a CM, it doesn't have a CM. These are, to put it bluntly, completely pointless observations.
Right, I'm done. I gotta remember, "Not every thought needs to be a post".
Anyone got any effortposts?
CM Dates; CM Pending; CM DraftsMmm... maybe later today. Depends on whether or not the comic on the to-read today turns up anyone.
Hey could I have some thoughts on the quote I proposed last page.
"That's right mortal. By channeling my divine rage into power, I have forged a new instrument in which to destroy you."I dunno, that seems more like A Million Is a Statistic.
For that matter, that Vicus quote seems more like The Hedonist.
CM Dates; CM Pending; CM Drafts...what?
... are you asking us to lift a ban?
A cruel, sick joke is still a joke, and sometimes all you can do is laugh....Uh what did you do to get banned. Plus if you are banned, how did you get on here, did you use a sock puppet.

"That's right mortal. By channeling my divine rage into power, I have forged a new instrument in which to destroy you."Don't respond. Report. Move on.
Well, he did apologize... Who are you?

Welcome to the world of greatest media!Sock. Not sure if it was made for ban evasion, but banned again.
"For a successful technology, reality must take precedence over public relations, for Nature cannot be fooled." - Richard FeynmanDammit, trying to do an ASCII Face Palm but it's failing.

CM Dates; CM Pending; CM DraftsSave the space for relevant posts. Let's move on.
Too bad that I ended up adding Vicus's quote in CM quotes but its okay.....Also, anyone other than miraculous have an opinion for Professor Clover's quotes? Just saying
Also, speaking of Effortpost....gotta be honest guys, I'm bankrupt at one I don't know what work should I effortpost on other than Geek Love. I do have another work to delve into but maybe I just could do it at a later time ._.
"Making screw-ups and mistakes was I ever really good at. Because everything I touch went to hell."At least wait until Vicus has been added. I'm holding off on that until Scraggle gets the Nazi Mind Rapist up.
And hey, don't worry about not effortposting. Just stay here and vote
Though if you (or anyone else) wants to writeup Alien Chibu Exceller, that's probably okay. It's been nearly 3 months since CyberXIII effortposted him/it.
CM Dates; CM Pending; CM DraftsCan I recommend this image of Cinder fall for the Web Original page?
Sorry, I just realized it was too small. Here, try this one.
No. Doesn't demonstrate the trope in any form or way.
Okay, if we're going through a mini-dry spell then I still think we need to cut Will Strausser from Revolution. I brought this up a few months back but it was swept under the tide.
He's a brutal Sociopathic Soldier and probably the most evil person in the series. But he did honour his agreement to Mia, letting her and her sister go and even paying her for it, when he had no reason to do so. He even states "a deal is a deal."
Sounds like a disqualifier to me.
CM Dates; CM Pending; CM DraftsIn relation to CM image for Web Original, how does this one work?
Bloody brutal that one.
Or does the character in question need to be in the scene for it to work?
EDIT: Perhaps we could combine it with this image? Cinder with powers

Please allow me to introduce myself, I am a man of wealth and taste. Nice to meet you, hope you can guess my name.
Sorry, I wasn't thinking
Seriously though, it seems so Trope Overdosed, I'm kinda surprised that that's one trope it DOESN'T have. Ditto Tengen Toppa Gurren Lagann and Evangelion, for that matter. Or Mahou Sensei Negima!.
