I won't be saying that I want Sonic to be 'dark' or something. But my first sonic game was Sonic Adventure 2 (battle). So I'm used to having more then an excuse plot in my Sonic games.

I hope that they won't completely get rid of that.

Why Sonic? If you want a dark game, you should play a franchise that isn't about a talking hedgehog.

Sonic The Hedghog and Grimdark goes about as well together as peanut butter and a hammer to the face. It just doesn't work well.

Granted, I enjoyed Shadow The Hedgehog because it had more than just an Excuse Plot and some actual character development, but at the same time the concept of a cute little talking hedgehog who moves extremely fast fighting an overweight Evil Genius while gathering seven mystical gems of power to fight off whatever evil Eggman released this time and Grimdark just really don't work so well due to the design.

...Wow, that sounded a lot smarter in my head...

Still need More Dakka, and it's about time to start a real WAAAAAGH.

I'm thinking that the Archie comics are as "dark" as Sonic should ever get anywhere near. I don't really follow them regularly so I'm not getting into the quality debate, but they can be pretty good at times.

That said, that style really doesn't work well for a Sonic game. I have to agree with that one designer who said that the series took itself too seriously for too long. It just clashes with the design and laid-back personality of the character.

I just want them to finish the Sat AM game there was a tech-demo of. I don't care if they update the look to the Archie continuity look, I just want that game, badly.

I want the Sonic The Heghog series to go back to Shadow/06, even SATAM level darkness after the light and fluffy Secrert Rings, Riders, and Colors.

I, for one, do not. As far as I'm concerned, Sonic and "Darker and Edgier" goes about as well as peanut butter and hydrochloric acid.

And no, I don't like Sonic SatAM all that much.

Experience has taught me to investigate anything that glows.

As Sonic 06 has earned my everlasting hatred, I say that the games should distance themselves from the melodramatic babbling mess of a plot that it had.

See Darker and Edgier can be really good, but the writer must go out of their way to ensure that the character development and scenarios actually grow more complex rather than simply dramatic. Sa TM managed to do that decently enough, but they had to shift focus away from Sonic himself as his personality and even design just don't support that style of storytelling all that well.

The term "Great Man" is disturbingly interchangeable with "mass murderer" in history books.

I always wanted to see a Sonic Horror Survival game.

The idea I had was that Sonic was somehow lured into a trap set in one of the Eggman's massive robot graveyards by a malfunctioning, insane Metal Sonic, who has been upgraded to match Sonic's spin attack completely, making him much harder to hurt and kill. The cramped and hazard-filled scrapyard, coupled with a beefed-up and relentless Metal Sonic, would have been an interesting thing.

While I can loosely agree that Sonic 06's storyline wasn't all the great(timey wimey ball anyone?), outside of the question of which path was correct, Shadow The Hedgehog's storyline worked fine for me.

...that comes across as more funny than scary. Though of course, Darker and Edgier is also fun to rip the piss out of, as early editions of Warhammer and Warhammer 40 K prove.

Darker and Edgier is obviously a Pet-Peeve Trope for Sonic fans, and it's understandable given the way the trope has been used by the series most of the time. But I really feel it's an idea that should be revisited...although admittedly not by Sonic Team.

Something similr to the tone of the Adventures I wouldn't mind, but I would really really really hate to see them go back to something like Shadow.

The Adventures series was solid, both of them. Though Amys character development at the end of 1 getting rolled back to whiny Distressed Damsel was annoying. (She became a stronger character in Heroes but by then the fans were starting to get restless.)

Although I know its not going to happen, some of the team could do with going back and doing some world building on Mobius. There is great potential for a game there. Plus it might shut the nostalgia crowd up for five seconds.

I at the very least want it to be as dark as the adventure games.
