Known Unknown: Yup. He mentioned some of that issue (untrustworthy reviews etc) in an edit responding to my ninja-post.

All I can say is that I'm thankful that you're not occupying a position of prominence at any game firms that I actually care about, otherwise a lot of the "non-ambitious" games that I happen to love such as Paper Mario, MOTHER 3, and Ikaruga (which hails from a dying genre) would have never seen the light of day. Also, if you're going to present an argument supporting your position, try to cite some sources other than opinion pieces, it adds more oomph and credibility...

Let's play a game about Pokémon...Sorry to change the subject, but...
Since I don't know how he is in real life, I can't tell what parts of any given review are him legitimately complaining, or exaggerating for comedic effect. I don't know if he actually is a hardcore Wii/Nintendo Fan Hater, for instance, but I think he, at least, has disdain for them. As for Extra Punctuation, I suppose that's closer to his actual personality, but given that he literally said "up yours" to Monster Hunter Tri fans in one article, he still doesn't come off as someone I'd want to hang around with.
(Do note that I haven't seen anything by him for months, so I'm probably not the one to go to for 100% valid complaints. Also, I'm disinterested in Monster Hunter.)
Troper page Nothing interesting here, move along...sigh...he didn't even get to the meat of Monster Hunter Tri (he was still in the tutorials) and then he complained about how boring the game was...
Gamers today are either just that stupid, or just way too impatient.
Also, is it just me, or is it starting to sound like someone here is getting the definition of "ambitious" very very wrong?
If I were t go with what this thread is trying to imply...
Ambitious=HD GRAPHICS! More Polygons! Screw you Nintendo!
"Every opinion that isn't mine is subjected to Your Mileage May Vary."^ He did get to the Great Jaggi, though. It was immediately after that that he got fed up with it, according to the Extra Punctuation.
I have a message from another time...I'm willing to bet that he got to the Great Jaggi after he did the review and the comment section in that review blew up.
I don't know everything that goes on, but this looks like a very likely case. Why didn't he mention it in the review. And if he really did make it that far before reviewing, then that makes his video review outright lying about the game, not just comedically exagerrating negative aspects of it.
That said, it still bugs me how people who suck at the game keep blaming their losses on "the greatsword is heavy and slow"(it's a big slab of metal larger than the hunter itself), or "sharpening is too hard", or "they can't just drink their potion to heal instantly".
Gamers these days like to blame the game for their failure rather than admitting their flaws.

"Every opinion that isn't mine is subjected to Your Mileage May Vary."...Do the flame wars in this thread have any sort of identifiable pattern?
Shinfernape shows up -> Everyone vs. Shinfernape.
That's pretty much it.

Electivirus! Let's derail the thread with something. Anything!

One of my few regrets about being born female is the inability to grow a handlebar mustache. -LandstanderEh the thread was civil, then a fire breaks out and all hell breaks loose. That's how it works.
I've seen some videos that are like that.

Boy, IGN and their hatred of Hack and Slash.
those are my favorite melee rings!
Wait... what were we talking about?
I have a message from another time...Boy, why are all the good Hack and Slashers rated M?
^ Depends... Dynasty Warriors is rated T. (I for one am a big fan of it and Dynasty Warriors Gundam.)
Sparkling and glittering! Jan-Ken-Pon!Anybody remember Powerstone?
^ I do, it was awesome! ^_^
On another note, I think all game magazines do this to some extent. Recently, I was reading Game Informer and they really have something against JRPGs. I'm not a rabid fanboy who foams at the mouth whenever he hears someone speak ill of RPGs, rather, a humble and concerned reader who's noticed just how low these reviewers are willing to stoop to in order to boost sales for the more popular games. I've always felt that the press does have the right to express their opinions, but as a humble gamer, I enjoy many playing many different species of video games, and the public should be entitled to a clear, concise, and unbiased review of a game, as well as encouraging their readers to give these games a try. :)

Teacher's pet.: Pillars of Moral Character.Well, don't forget, Game Informer is owned by Game Stop. Their first priority is to sell games. (Although you'd think that'd include eastern RPGs.)
Current project: Cleaning up the Chrono Crusade examples one at a time. God help me.Oh hey guys, what's going on in here...
I'm seeing this a lot. I take it this Shinfernape has differing views to most of the forum?
Against all tyrants.Among other things, yes.

... What the hell does GTA 4 do that GTA San Andreas didn't do? In fact, what is so ambitious about another GTA game? High production values and a vast city? San Andreas had the former for its time, and had THREE cities! I say it was more ambitious than GTA 4. In addition, I'd say Rockstar's treatment of GTA this generation is actually more lazy. I mean Lost & The Damned and Ballade of Gay Tony use the same damn city, when Vice City and San Andreas didn't.
New Super Mario Bros Wii might use the same graphics as the DS version, but at least it has new levels. Before you say that both GTA 4 Mission Packs are $20 each, I can pay $20 and get any good game. Heck, GTA 4 is $20 now!
