Sticky plz.
Alas, this is not a game.
Following the events of [REDACTED], we should probably get some rules in this place. Not hard-and-fast, you-will-obey, on-pain-of-death rules, of course; more a sort of guideline for how to keep things fun and entertaining for all involved. Obviously, FG is all about fun, but these rules are intended to make sure it stays that way.
- Try to stay vaguely on topic. You can be flexible; sometimes the rules need changing, and OPs, there's no point in trying to make Tropers play a game they don't want to. But if the game is "let's pretend to be kittens", don't derail into "let's pretend to be robot samurai". Remember, anyone can make a thread here, so if you don't see a game that interests you, make your own thread for that. You don't need to ruin other people's games.
- On that note, please don't turn every thread into a free-for-all fight. There is a thread for that. More generally, you don't need to derail every thread into a roleplaying game. As it happens, we have an entire subforum for if you want to roleplay.
- If you are supposed to be roleplaying, please refrain from godmodding. It's not funny, it's not fair, and it disrupts the game. That means no playing unbeatable characters. Be especially careful when killing other people's characters. Give them a fair chance; rather than writing "*shoots That Troper's head off*", consider "*fires gun at That Troper's face*". The line between Godmodding and regular fighting can be somewhat nebulous, so please exercise your common sense and personal judgement.
- Be wary of conversational derails. They're a fact of life on these forums, but try not to go overboard, or you may find there isn't a game left.
- Take your drama someplace else. FG isn't the place for that shit. We're here to have fun, not start a Flame War.
- Don't write your posts in a way that makes it hard for other tropers to participate in the game: Remember that forum games are a collaborative project, not a competition. Please do not write your posts with the intention of trying to one up other people by making it hard for them to build upon your post in a constructive way.
- No sex or fetish games. Let's keep this vaguely family friendly.
- Please bump responsibly. Due to the amount of games played every day, it's normal for a thread to be knocked off of the first page within hours. With that in mind, regulars will wait several days or a few weeks before bumping. Please use the same amount of courtesy. Threads that are time-sensitive (such as YIAY) do allow a bit of leeway regarding this rule, in case the user presenting the prompt needs to be pinged or if there are not enough responses after time has passed.
- Above all, have fun! This being Forum Games, that's what we all want, right? These rules are not intended to oppress anyone, but rather as a gentle reminder of how to avoid that dreaded Internet Backdraft. That way, we can all enjoy ourselves. ^_^
EDIT:
- The avatar minimum and the keep sockpuppeting to a minimum rule have been removed from the rule list.
- Don't write your posts in a way that makes it hard for other tropers to participate in the game rule has been added to the rules list
- Added "no sex or fetish games" rule.
- Added a rule regarding thread bumping.

While this thread is still slightly fresh from yeterday, I had an unrelated question I wanted to bring up. The Avatar Chain Game is one of those threads that seems to stagnate a lot, and I think that might just be because there's never really been a definitive number of avatars per chain before it's considered acceptable to start a new one. The OP says approximately four or five, but that number never seems like it's been enforced.
Does anyone think that might be worth changing? Maybe make it something along the lines of the 10 Video Game or 12 Song threads?
Ever wanted to see the most inexplicably horrifying intro to a game ever?Admittedly, I forgot all about the "at least 4-5 avatars" thing in the OP (until recently reading it), since chains on later pages have usually gone on for longer. But I always saw that as more of an absolute minimum than a recommended number for all chains with how it just says at least, and I do think it's usually more fun when they last longer (unless the game is really slow and a chain isn't getting much attention/is a bit too specific or rare), giving more people a chance to join or post more avatars.
As for a specific number... Not sure? I always found it to be a case of "use your best judgment" (for me, one of my personal "rules" would be "let a chain last a few days, with the possible exception of a chain getting tons of posts in a short time") for when it's a good time to start a new chain, but I also see how it could help out, and if we do set a number I'd recommend higher than 4-5 (of course, a new chain can be started earlier if the current one isn't getting any attention)

"Leftover items still have value!"I don't know if this is the right thread, but I don't want to clutter the other threads, so I'll bring it here.
For the "Guess the [production company] character" threads, I am wondering if I am allowed to select characters from works that are co-productions with companies not owned by the [production company], and especially characters that count as Walking Spoilers. I'm only hosting my 5th round overall.

Come play Character Uplift Game!Wonder if NSFW games are allowed? If so, what is the limit? Because I have seen games such as "The above avatar... pregnant... sth", "Kiss, Marry or Bang,..." and especially the "Porn Name Game" one (or sth like that), which is full of porn-parody of games. So are they allowed? Is it allowed for someone to make a thread like "Is the above avatar ticklish" or "What is the above avatar ticklish’s spot?". While tickling can be just for fun without any sexual intention, it can also be seen as a fetish. So, what is NSFW and what is not, and why?

Meow meow meow (I am just a lil’ hungry cat, I have nothing to do with a certain guy who hired an assassin)Actually, there's somewhat been a NSFW crackdown in FG with the NSFW prompts in the seconds game being changed to safer alternatives, since they came from a time where the site was freer and there's less concern for those kind of stuffs

Just an eagle. (Feel free to PM me if you want to talk to me).Ah yeah, there were already discussions about games like that on the past few pages, but I don't think we reached a full conclusion (apparently they were spared earlier because they didn't have explicit descriptions going on in-game but could be discussed again)
At the very least, the "you had sex with the avatar from your gallery" games and such should probably have a strict "no characters who are minors" rule, though I wouldn't mind seeing those just locked and shut down entirely. To me, those feel more inappropiate than the "porn parodies" thread which is just making sex puns on work titles rather than choosing specific avatars/characters to bang
For things like the hypothetical tickling games... I'm leaning towards that being fine as long as no one gets creepy about it (though I do see the concerns)? A lot of things can be someone's fetish, after all
As for that, I guess it depends on what the game's creator says? Probably best to discuss with them, though I'd assume if it's at least partially owned by the company in question it should be fine

"Leftover items still have value!"Can we report breaches of individual game rules?
Depends on what the game rule is.
It's Over Anakin, I have the high ground! How do you guys get the small images of your avatars? The link I copy from my avatar gallery is always huge
LP Deprecation Cleanup | Ask me about SMPLiveThe smaller avatars were made at a time when the maximum image resolution for avatars was 100x100. The maximum was changed a while back, so new avatars cap at a much larger size.
Ever wanted to see the most inexplicably horrifying intro to a game ever?Ahh, thanks!
LP Deprecation Cleanup | Ask me about SMPLiveAlso, there unfortunately seems to be no way to resize avatars as of now - there's markup for doing this with other TVT images but it doesn't work with avatars for some reason
"Leftover items still have value!"So, on the Ask the Above Troper a Question thread, people don't like it when other users say "same question" to them. They usually just put in their own answers to their questions.
Janky Kong, in this post brought up that they could've actively discouraged the "same question" thing instead of doing that. With that in mind, would adding a rule to the thread about disallowing "same question" prompts be fine?
I personally can go either way as the "people adding their own answers to their questions" thing seems to be effective.
Victor of HGS S320 | "There's rosemary, that's for remembrance. Pray you, love, remember."Maybe? There may be cases of players not minding this though (in fact, when I used to play it more often I sometimes asked questions I would like being asked myself) but I guess this can be done by just answering your own question in spoilers like people currently do
"Leftover items still have value!"It could also be that I'm overestimating how strongly anyone else feels about the matter, which, if it is, I don't want to pick on anyone for not playing a thread the way I want them to.
Ever wanted to see the most inexplicably horrifying intro to a game ever?Like Zanreo said. I don't really mind same question stuff, but I prefer not getting it anyways.
Not even stars last forever.EDIT: Situation I was talking about in this post has been resolved.

Victor of HGS S320 | "There's rosemary, that's for remembrance. Pray you, love, remember."(Excuse the double post)
So, over in the Guess the Sony Game, I noticed that the host of a round in that game, skan123 hasn't answered a question in over 24 hours, which going by the rules, a player can call for a stump which leads to the host having to reveal the character and let the player who called stump to host the next round.
Since I happened to have a character idea for the game, I called stump, but skan123 straight up ignored the stump and said so in a DM they sent me, which I'm pretty sure counts as breaking the rules. I brought up the rule in question in both the thread and in my response to their DM.
EDIT: Decided to make an ATT report about it.

Victor of HGS S320 | "There's rosemary, that's for remembrance. Pray you, love, remember."I think the whole asking "same question" can be considered bothersome when the spoiler note gets ignored or when the answer is pretty obvious plus I do recall some post saying they rather be not asked the same question.
Meet the Tamas!◊ Can't let any of those suckers live!I stumped it long ago... and definitely before I saw your query today.
Any objections to a rule that discourages pointless/excess bumps? (For example, bumping after less than a day has passed; games such as YIAY and Daily Caption Contest will have drastically reduced restrictions due to the nature of those games.)
This is in light of a (probably new) user bumping their thread after it goes off of page 1 when no one else posted.
she/her | TRS needs your help! | Contributor of Trope ReportMay as well make that an official rule, yeah. At this point, it's normal for games to go to page 2 or lower in just a day due to all the different active threads. I generally try waiting at least a week or so before bumping myself.
"Leftover items still have value!"Alright. If we have no objections, I'll write it up during lunch break; at work right now.
Update: Added as "Please bump responsibly"
Edited by Berrenta on Dec 1st 2023 at 6:04:09 AM
she/her | TRS needs your help! | Contributor of Trope ReportSo, Pokecaptor Sean is already violating the "Please Bump Responsibly" rule by constantly bumping the same thread within the same day just because there's been no activity for hours. He even mistakenly believes that threads should be bumped when 3 hours passed without activity.
Victor of HGS S320 | "There's rosemary, that's for remembrance. Pray you, love, remember."
In that case, I simply don't post/respond. I try to only respond to characters I'm familiar enough to make a decent response for, unless it's been a long time and I want to bump the game.
