And of course Iron Man is once again stuck with an RDJ sound-alike.
"I am Alpharius. This is a lie."It overall looks really fun and really well-polished. Digging the art, digging how dynamic the moves are (especially Dr. Strange's portal, goddamn), and digging the environment destruction and team mechanics. It's kinda funny it being called a TPS in rumors and people comparing it to Overwatch, because I'm kinda surprised first instinct hasn't been comparing it to Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League. Also HOLY SHIT GALACTA.
If there's anything I'm dreading it's the monetization, I will not be surprised to see Netease be brutal with that. Also really weird to see no console port confirmed though maybe that's being saved until sometime after this alpha for some reason.
I wouldn't say those are their "MCU looks" so much as you can clearly see where the MCU influences are, most notably with Namor. It's really tastefully done IMO, enough to be recognizable and familiar to more casual fans while still leaning more into the comic portrayals.

Nah, if it was anything like Suicide Squad, all the powers would be replaced by generic guns.
A good writer puts in a lot of details in there story. But a great one gets a story from a single detail.Yeah, there are some red flags here, but I really do gotta say, an Overwatch clone with a Marvel coat of paint appeals to me hard as both a fan of superheroes and someone who has a fair bit of OW under his belt. Controlling some of the House of Ideas' massive and beloved cast of characters in a 3D PvP setting and having them beat the crap out of each other and accomplish objectives using their iconic abilities to gain an advantage just sounds innately fun. The stylized art direction, team-up moves, and destructible environments help, as does the music, if what little we've heard in the trailer and on the website is any indication for how the soundtrack will turn out. If it is and it winds up being released officially, I'll definitely be listening to those beats on full blast.
They really seem to have put a fair bit of money and effort into this game. I'll be keeping my eye on it. Let's hope this one turns out good.

Yeah that... That tracks. As they say.
I don't see the MCU influence claims. If anything they've absolutely managed to nail their own personal takes on these characters.
I expect the skin-and-costume DLC to be insane though.

Bleye knows Sabers.Yeah I'd say how they are going to handle the monetization will help make or break this
If its just a lot of price-gouging for some basic skins, thats going to suck hard
"I am Alpharius. This is a lie."One notable thing about the gameplay; Bruce Banner seems to be the default state of the hero, with turning into the Hulk being a Super Mode.
I get why. Hulk barreling at you should be an Oh, Crap! moment and there's no better way to sell it than that.
Bleye knows Sabers. The mention of story makes me wonder if we might get pve stuff.
Which if it does, that's one massive win it would have over Overwatch since it would provide the pve content that Overwatch 2 skipped out on and lied to everyone about.
"I am Alpharius. This is a lie."Peni, Luna, and Galatca in a game like this is deep. I think a read a leak about Spider-Zero involved in one of the mission types too. This game has deep cuts
35 year old white man.I feel like some folks tend to overstate the "bad" aspects of Audience Coloring Adaptations reverberating back to comics, other mediums, and what not.
Which is such a cool idea! I think the only other playable Banner we've had was the video game for Hulk. That version was only regulated to early 2000s stealth mechanics though.
Also, I just remember this isn't even Marvel's first collab with NetEase. They made a League of Legends clone with Marvel Super War, with a bunch of characters and alts. Despite having an recognizable English cast, the game's region exclusive. (I think due to KaBlam making and failing to do their own simultaneous Marvel LoL clone (Realm of Champions) a few years ago.)
As a non-comics-nerd... who are these gender-bent galactus (who i only recognized because helmet) and this "Luna" character?
A bit surprised we're getting a Hero Shooter now, i thought everyone had moved on and Battle Royale Game were the new hotness (or that even they started losing steam nowayadays)?

Galacta, Daughter of Galactus is Exactly What It Says on the Tin: Galactus's teenage daughter passing off as a human on Earth while trying not to give in to Galactus's cosmic hunger. She's appeared very briefly and is largely non-canon to the main comics (which given the multiverse focus here clearly doesn't matter). Noted earlier but the writer who created her also did Empowered which....tracks.
Fun fact: She actually popped up quite a bit in online Marvel vs. Capcom 3 discussions back in the day as a way to try to work around some kind of Play as a Boss version of Final Boss Galactus....only for UMvC3 to get a boss mode.
Luna Snow is actually an Original Generation from Marvel Future Fight that eventually became a Canon Immigrant to the main comics. K-pop singer with ice-powers, IIRC Netmarble actually still uploads songs in a fictional Idol Singer sorta way.
As for the genre if anything the recent blowback against Overwatch 2 makes this feel more appropriately timed than anything else. It's not a genre with a lot of activity (I'm not counting hybrids like Apex Legends or Valorant) and Overwatch falling back should mean more openings for games like Rivals to slide in.
Her songs are in youtube, if you are curious, alongside with a video of gameplay footage for Marvel Future Fight.
Wake me up at your own risk.Oh, Luna Snow was absolutely created to surf the rising wave of Kpop popularity.
This is not a new phenomenon in the least. Doesn't mean she can't be cool and fun.
Bleye knows Sabers.Meanwhile, Iceman is all like I've been here for years, you assholes!
But Luna looks fun, and it's cool they went for someone less obvious.
One Strip! One Strip! It's very evident by how out of place Luna looks. Like Marvel has created Korean superhero characters before but Luna looks like she comes from a different setting. Her being created to cash in on the Korean market makes sense since those types of appealing to different market characters tend to be kinda basic in design. She very much looks to be a "made by committe" type character.
Fanservice heavy with some bondage comic about a superheroine trying to be a hero despite being captured and tied up a lot.
It's a lot better than it sounds.

"I am Alpharius. This is a lie."She needs a mask.
One Strip! One Strip!Marvel also created Dazzler, who basically had disco superpowers.
Wake me up at your own risk.So according to leaks:
Tank - Hulk, Dr Strange, Groot, Magneto, Peni Parker
DPS - Punisher, Storm, Black Panther, Magik, Iron Man, Spider-Man, Scarlet Witch, Star-Lord, Namor
Support - Loki, Mantis, Rocket Raccoon, Luna Snow
Anyone else expect Strange, Stark, and Rocket to be the other way around?
Edited by Sunchet on Mar 28th 2024 at 10:33:23 AM
I thought it was the opposite? Hulk is the default and you turn into Banner after taking a certain amount of damage.
Edited by Cortez on Mar 28th 2024 at 6:27:30 AM
"They truly were a Aqua Teen Hunger Force"That makes more sense considering the leaks were explicitly comparing Hulk to D.Va.
Incidentally I've seen Overwatch comparisons all over the place but it feels especially egregious with what we've seen of Magneto, like this game really made him beefy and gave him a big ol' beard to make it clear he's the game's Reinhardt lmao.
He kinda made me think about Sigma.
didn't expect Galacta: Daughter of Galactus, gotta remember to put that on Unexpected Character
Working on cleaning up List of Shows That Need Summary
There are a few characters that have their MCU looks though.
