One of the many site updates Kory plans to push in the near future is for everyone's user creation to be publicly displayed. However, we didn't start to record user creation dates until sometime pre-2010, so accounts older than that get internally labeled as being created 1/1/2001 even though the site didn't exist back then. So, kory asked me to make this thread on his behalf so that we can get community input on what we should do with accounts that were created pre-2010
EDIT from Kory: Given that the code seems fairly easy, at least in this case, I have a proposal, just need community feedback for options:
Everyone will have the option to just show their regular date OR a drop-down list of options based on their account age such as: (Current Options)
- < 1 year = ("Pilot", “Private”, "Holding A Herring", “Troper Youngling”, “ Troper in training”, “Greenhorn”, “Newbie”, “The New Guy/Girl/Person”, "Green Spout", "Plucky Enseign", "Apprentice") and ?
- > 1 year = ("Handed A Sword", "Less Newbie", "Season 1", "Series 1", “Troper Apprentice”, “ Experienced but not yet jaded”, “Life not ruined yet”, “Unitroper”) and ?
- > 2 years = ("Striking Back", "Season 2", "Series 2", “Sergeant”, "Y2: Electric Boogaloo", "Troper Journeyman", “Experienced Trainee”, "Terrible Twos", “Bitroper”) and ?
- > 3 years = (“3 is a Magic Number”, "Not-So-Newbie", "Trinitroper", "Searching for Spock", “Troper Squire”, “Rule of Three”, “Tritroper”) and ?
- > 5 years = (“Five Year Plan”, “Captain”, "Pentatroper", "Fifth Year at Tropey's", “Troper Knight”, “ Five Long Years”) and ?
- > 7 years = ("Rule of Seven", "Seven Years' War", "Seventh Son”, “Septatroper”, “Spin-off Series”, “4 Score & 7 Years Ago”, “Lucky 7”, "Petty Master") and ?
- > 10 years = ("Elder Troper", "Long Runner", “Edited uphill both ways”, “Major”, "X-Troper", "Decatroper", “Master Troper”, “Old as dirt”, “Don’t ask”, “Wise, aged troper”, “it’s Ben 10”, “Veteran”, "Ten years in the joint") and ?
- > 13 years = ("Living Relic", "Sage of the Hills", "Oldest One in the Book", "Ancient one", “Decorated Troper”, “Old Master”, "On A Trope Odyssey", "Unlucky Thirteen", “Troper Sage”, “Marshall", "Emeritus Troper")
- > 15 years (includes 2001) = ("Precursor", “OG troper”, “Great Old One”, “Before Time Began”, “Troper of Legend”, "Time Abyss", "Primordial Chaos", “ y2k”, “tvtrope Prime”, “Before Recorded History”, “Series Finale”, “Old enough to drive”, “General of TV Troops”, "Mammoth", "Living Relic", "Tropes Time Lord", "Prehistoric Troper") and ?
We would just need to fill these in with some more funny / clever options. I’ll make the list big just like the relationship status so make as many suggestions as you want below!
- 1,034 accounts have logged in this year that are > 15 years old
- 1,428 accounts have logged in this year that are > 14 years old
- 3,197 accounts have logged in this year that are > 13 years old
- 5,841 accounts have logged in this year that are > 12 years old
- 7,837 accounts have logged in this year that are > 11 years old
- 10,390 accounts have logged in this year that are > 10 years old
- 19,663 accounts have logged in this year that are > 7 years old
- 24,102 accounts have logged in this year that are > 5 years old
- 28,639 accounts have logged in this year that are > 3 years old
- 31,356 accounts have logged in this year that are > 2 years old
- 34,476 accounts have logged in this year that are > 1 years old
- 7,921 accounts have logged in this year that are < 1 years old
So 42,397 users have logged in this year.

Tropers having less than a year can be called Younglings or Rookie Troper One year and longer can be called Apprentice Two years can be named Experienced Trainee. Five years can be Veterans 15 years can be Trope Veterans and Decorated Tropers Tropers from start date are all called TV Tropes Primes (from the 13 Original Primes of Primus)
I think the wiki bulletin was saying "User creation date discussion" or along the lines before, but now it simply says "Creation".
TroperWall / WikiMagic CleanupFor over 1 year:
For >2 years, let me suggest "Journeyman Troper," as a journeyman is like an apprentice, but has worked with a skilled craftsman long enough to handle routine and not-so-tough assignments unsupervised.
For >3 years, there's "Troper Squire," being one step below knighthood.
If you edited it, it would've cut off the rest of the title. That's a bug with bulletins I've noticed. Made a report.

Ah the list of bugs seems to be never ending lol. Now that I’m staying with Tropes instead of moving to another project, I think I’ll be able to fix most of the sites pressing bugs over the next few months.
EDIT: more suggestions added to OP.

Now monitoring Wishlist and BugsAs someone whose TV Tropes account actually is pre-2010, I like 'OG Troper' if I had to choose a single option. I also like the idea of a drop-down list that could be used by everyone on TV Tropes, as opposed to simply one for long-lasting members like me.

Wizard Needs Food BadlyOld Master could be a good vanity title for pre-2010 users, I agree that some of the best ideas so far have been trope names.
EDIT: Might be worth looking at Forum Pecking Order for more tongue-in-cheek titles pertaining to user age.

"I used to long for time alone, I used to long for a place of my own..."We're fond of Completely Normal Guy's suggestion of "before recorded history" for accounts that predate the whole 'remembering when they were created' thing.
Trouble Cube continues to be a general-purpose forum for those who desire such a thing.I like the "before recorded history" suggestion, too, because it's not figurative.
Agreed. Before recorded history is literally describing that situation - the account was created before the relevant data was recorded.
I also like "before recorded history".
Is it time to put the options we have on a crowner or do we want more time to discuss suggestions?
If we make a crowner, I was thinking of setting the options like this:
- Suggestion (age range)
Edited by MacronNotes on Jul 2nd 2023 at 11:15:49 AM
Macron's notes"Greenhorn" could be good for really fresh users (younger than a year).
"Regular" could be good for the three year or five year mark.
"I used to long for time alone, I used to long for a place of my own...""Regular" might be a little misleading, as it implies that the user frequently uses the site and not everyone who's been around the three/five year mark fit that criteria.
Victor of HGS S320 | "There's rosemary, that's for remembrance. Pray you, love, remember."Added choices to OP. I agree “regular” seems based on usage and not the age of account.
We were going to do a crowner to choose which one for each age but instead I’ll just add every suggestion people post here over the next week or so and push this task up last.

Now monitoring Wishlist and BugsI note some are plural, specifically in the 15 year and 2001 date suggestions. Since this is supposed to be a title for individual tropers, shouldn't they be singular?
My troper wallOoh, sounds like a fun idea! Will try thinking of possible options...
"Leftover items still have value!"For <1: Pilot, Holding A Herring
For >1: Less Newbie, Season 1, Series 1, Handed A Sword
For >2: Season 2, Series 2, Year 2: Electric Boogaloo, Striking Back
For >3: Not-So-Newbie, Trinitroper, Searching for Spock
For >5: Pentatroper, Five Years at Tropey's
For >10: Long Runner, "Walked up hill both ways to edit pages.", X-Troper, Decatroper
For >15: Living Relic, Sage of the Hills
For 2001: On A Trope Odyssey, Precursor

I'll see if I can come up with a shorter version
"Old Troper Yells at Cloud"?
Vehicle-Based Characterization | Grief-Induced Split | Locker Mail
The best ideas I can come up with are referencing tropes and works. That said, only ones coming to my mind are:
