Ambiguous Name: Bastard Boyfriend

To-do list:

• Bastard Boyfriend, Bastard Girlfriend, and Bespectacled Bastard Boyfriend have been merged into Fetishized Abuser.
  • Move wicks for abusers who are treated as attractive by the narrative to Fetishized Abuser to the new name and remove ones that don't.
  • Remove on-page examples that aren't for abusers who are treated as attractive by the narrative.

I suppose renaming to something like Romanitcized Abuser and/or un-Japanizing the description would solve the issue.

Seems like a better solution. This is hardly a Japan only phenomena and would help avoid the name ambiguity.

Well, Romanticized Abuse does exist. Maybe we can do a merge if they are similar enough? I think Bastard Boyfriend is a subtrope of RA if I am not mistaken

I've been concerned about this one for a while, too, specifically about how the title doesn't convey the actual intent.

what about moving Bastard Boyfriend to fanspeak and all examples to Romanticized Abuse?

The name I thought of was more about the person being romanticized, not the act, though I'd like to see what would happen to the trope's if its examples are moved to Romanticized Abuse and Domestic Abuse.

That was my thought, similar to the plan for Meganekko being discussed right now.

Bastard Girlfriend also exists and it might have the same issues as BB (but it didn't corn from an anime specific concept) but we need a wick check for that.

I have issues with how Sexy Sadist is a gender-neutral redirect to Bastard Boyfriend, so could that be a good name? Or should it target something else?

Sexy Sadist feels too broad to be a redirect to Bastard Boyfriend. Of course the redirect predates page histories. Edit: That makes sense.

Bastard Boyfriend was launched with that name according the old TLP draft so Sexy Sadist was created as a redirect some time after BB was launched.

I wouldn't mind making this def-only if it's an actual term people use.

Its something we made up. Before the name was changed to Bastard Boyfriend in the TLP, the name for the trope used to be Kichiku (which is an Anime/Manga Fanspeak thing). That's why the trope 's description is anime/manga specific.

EDIT:I guess we could make Kichiku into a Fanspeak page (if people think that would be useful) and move good Bastard Boyfriend examples to Romanticized Abuse or some other trope.

Mmmm... Yeah, that's harder then.

If we made up the name, all the more reason to change it.

I will do a second wick check for the girlfriend trope.

There's also Bespectacled Bastard Boyfriend which is Bastard Boyfriend + status/power and glasses... I can do a check on that when I am free as I have two other wick checks that I am currently working on.

Let's merge with Romanticized Abuse and redirect to that page (possibly making Kichiku a Fan Speak page in the process), since we made up the term instead of it being real Fan Speak.

Edit: Might as well merge Bastard Girlfriend and Bespectacled Bastard Boyfriend as well for being a Distaff Counterpart to this trope and The Same, but More Specific, respectively (but maybe we could make Kichiku Megane a Fan Speak page; having both it and Kichiku as separate Fan Speak pages shouldn't be a problem considering we did the same thing with MST3K Mantra and Bellisario's Maxim).

Edit: I tagged Bastard Girlfriend and Bespectacled Bastard Boyfriend with the same tag as the one on Bastard Boyfriend.

Technically the other two don't have completed wick checks yet, but since it's such a given that they're just as problematic I'm willing to just roll with the one big merge.

Yeah, I was thinking this was similar to how the thread for The Great Politics Mess Up was expanded to cover Dewey Defeats Truman; only the former had a wick check, but both were merged into Failed Future Forecast.

Well I now it's not that necessary, but I was halfway through it anyway.
