I'm good with renaming to Parody Displacement.
she/her | TRS needs your help! | Contributor of Trope ReportI agree, Parody Displacement is a much clearer name.

Come play Character Uplift Game!Agree with renaming to Parody Displacement.
Yeah, we can rename (but 17+20+12 is 49, so that should not have passed in theory).
Currently mostly inactive. An incremental game I tested: https://galaxy.click/play/176 (Gods of Incremental)I think there was just a miscount and there were actually 18 correct examples.
Parody Displacement is a good name.
Patiently awaiting the release of Paper Luigi and the Marvelous Compass.to the rename
I like the name Parody Displacement.
Kirby is awesome.Get your Hawaiian shirts. We're moving the page to Parody Displacement.
she/her | TRS needs your help! | Contributor of Trope ReportThere are 716 wicks to clean. I’ll clean some now.

Come play Character Uplift Game!I think the general idea is notable, and there are several tropes that could apply to the misuse (Covered Up, for example), but is there a Missing Supertrope at play too? Or am I missing something?

I do some cleanup and then I enjoy shows you probably think are cringe.Well, there's also things like Adaptation Displacement... I'm not sure what a missing supertrope would cover.
Currently Working On: Incorruptible Pure PurenessI moved the page (the fact that Parody Displacement was already a redirect meant that we didn't need to have a mod do it) and migrated the indexing, and I posted a notice on the discussion page. I'll add it to the Renamed Tropes page and thread if that hasn't been done already.
Edit: Done. Forgot to mention that I replaced Parody Displacement's YMMV Redirects entry with one for Weird Al Effect, since the latter's Audience Reactions entry was already replaced with one for the former.
Edit: Here are the redirects that need to be dewicked:
- "Weird Al" Effect
-
The "Weird Al" Effect(done; see the post below this one)
The third redirect, Parodied Up, only has one wick and it's on YMMV Redirects, so nothing needs to be done with it.

Patiently awaiting the release of Paper Luigi and the Marvelous Compass. The Weird Al Effect only had 20 wicks, so I've renamed there.
TroperWall / WikiMagic CleanupHow are we handling the wick on IReadThatAs.T To Z? Are we keeping it or should it be pulled wholesale?
she/her | TRS needs your help! | Contributor of Trope ReportI am a little concerned about the way this trope was renamed with no crowner when it has over 700 wicks and 13000+ inbounds.
"For a successful technology, reality must take precedence over public relations, for Nature cannot be fooled." - Richard FeynmanI hollered this post to the mods to get a second opinion, as I also feel that this decision may have been made too hastily.
Are inbounds that important? The old name redirects to the new one, and "inbounds" also refers to any instances of someone clicking on a link, not the simple number of links.
I mean, maybe the decision was a little fast, but it's not like we just started renaming it without mod approval. Berrenta was the one who called consensus. If this is a disagreement between the mod team, I'm not sure what can really be done about it.
Currently Working On: Incorruptible Pure Pureness
Crown Description:
Consensus was to rename Weird Al Effect. What should its new name be?
Weird Al Effect is supposed to be when a parody is more remember than its subject. However, a lot of examples refer to anything that is better remembered than what it was based on, whether or not the thing is a parody. Weird Al Effect Wick Check of 50 examples shows 17 correctly used examples, 20 misused, and 12 are too ambiguously written to tell.
There is a redirect in Parody Displacement, which would be a better name that accurately represents what this is about.
