Discussion in this thread (which is kind of stalling) and the "vote" in Sandbox.Wiki Tropes did lead to a suggestion that this be moved to the Just for Fun namespace.

The huge usage numbers however suggest to me that we may want to have a dedicated discussion, if only to coordinate the cleanup effort that would be needed if we go through with a move.

I still think it should be Just for Fun. SugarWiki.TV Tropes Will Enhance Your Life and DarthWiki.TV Tropes Ruined Your Life, and JustForFun.TV Tropes Will Ruin Your Vocabulary are already classifed as such.

I am concerned that A common complaint of people who take courses like Media or Film studies is that they never look at a TV program, advertisement or film the same way ever again.

Analyzing a medium in depth and pulling it apart by the seams teaches you to watch things critically — analyzing every aspect and codifying them inside your mind.

Most tropers, academics, directors or writers who do this start to find new ways to enjoy media. The subtle blends of plots, the new spins on old stories. The rare and welcome times where a plot you weren't expecting appears. But it is never the same.

...is more like a trope or Audience Reaction than like a joke.

Agreed with JFF, it's certainly not a trope (since I don't think there are actual uses of it in media) and probably not official enough to be Administrivia/. But that idea may be YMMV somehow.

JFF [tup]

As for what Septimus pointed out, I can see the concerns but that doesn't mean this can't easily become a joke page. Say for example we add a section of "ways" TVT will ruin your life, similar to the lists on Ruined and Enhanced.

I think it's the "are tropes bad?" part of Tropes Are Tools, fwiw.

No objections to a JFF move here.

Eh? Tropes Are Tools is about judging tropes; this is about a more general effect tropes have on audience perceptions of works.

It read like "because we can break things down into tropes, nothing is really original anymore" to me, especially with the way it segues into the succeeding paragraphs.

Tropes Are Tools is still not about that. It's an instruction for editors first and foremost, not documenting the underlying psychological effect.

Maybe we can meet in the middle. We can keep a definition page and also create a JFF spin-off.

Still think we should remove it from Wiki Tropes either way.
