Heads up. We are in progress of migrating TV Tropes to a new CDN (from Cloudflare to AWS' Cloudfront).
When will this happen?
Today!
Why are we doing this?
For one Amazon gave us a better deal on bandwidth plus it saves us cost on the data transfer fees between the origin servers and the CDN. On the tech side the biggest selling point is being able to serve expired pages if our origin servers go down. Cloudflare will stop serving cached pages when they expire which is why the couple times we had server issues it seemed random on which pages worked. Cloudflare recently came out with a solution to pull pages from Archive.org but that would serve much older content than the solution from AWS. I also like the idea of using the same vendor for the CDN and origin servers. Right now if either vendor goes down we are offline. At least now it's only one.
What to look out for?
The site being slow when you are NOT logged-in. Logged-in users bypass the cache (well except for static objects like images/css/js so let us know if those have issues loading). Or if pages don't update when you are logged-out. After you edit a page, within a minute it should update the cache for everyone else.

Okay then. I believe that this could help us a lot and trust you guys.
Currently mostly inactive. An incremental game I tested: https://galaxy.click/play/176 (Gods of Incremental)Hope the update goes well.
Are we going offline again ?
"That's right mortal. By channeling my divine rage into power, I have forged a new instrument in which to destroy you."There should be minimal down time. However, the changeover will require global DNS servers to update their cached data, which can take between a few seconds and a few hours. If you notice that the site is unreachable, try forcing your DNS cache to refresh using the appropriate browser command (Ctrl-F5 in Chrome).

"For a successful technology, reality must take precedence over public relations, for Nature cannot be fooled." - Richard FeynmanI think the move might be making some image links (on this page) fail to load at the moment.

The three finest things in life are to splat your enemies, drive them from their turf, and hear their lamentations as their rank falls! Here's hoping the move goes smoothly!
New theme music also a boxAwesome.
Currently Working On: Incorruptible Pure PurenessThe migration is in progress. There shouldn't be any downtime unless we make a mistake. I see now requests are increasing on the new CDN and decreasing on the old one. We are monitoring everything now.
@Ace Of Scarabs, try to refresh again on that page you said images didn't work. You posted that around when we started migrating the image cdn urls. The compression of images is done live so there may have been a build up in the first couple minutes. Although I see less than 0.1% error rate so it would have only been for a small number of users

Will the site itself change?
"Listen up, Marina, because this is SUPER important. Whatever you do, don't eat th“ “DON'T EAT WHAT?! Your text box ran out of space!”Based on everything they're saying, sounds like more of a "backend" thing. There won't be any changes to the look or functionality, it's just keep to everything running nice and smooth and maybe save some money.
Per this ATT, there may be issues with image quality.
Avatars too?
"Listen up, Marina, because this is SUPER important. Whatever you do, don't eat th“ “DON'T EAT WHAT?! Your text box ran out of space!”Site was borked for about an hour. Couldn't post. All it did was shove me back to the first page.
Only weird thing that happened to me was my read threads didn't fade and still showed as being unread. That happened for about two minutes and it's fixed now.
“We’re all mad here. I’m mad. You’re mad.” - Lewis CarrollI had a brief hiccup where images wouldn't load at all, but that passed quickly.
On Ask The Tropers, this query is now at the top, even though two others received a reply after it.

Currently mostly inactive. An incremental game I tested: https://galaxy.click/play/176 (Gods of Incremental)I've noticed ATT and TF threads getting bumped to the top despite nothing actually bumping them. Minor, but a thing.
Currently Working On: Incorruptible Pure PurenessI've had trouble with posts not going through, but it seems to work now.
Same.
Eating a Vanilluxe will give you frostbite. We just fixed an issue with IP address handling. A similar problem happened the last time we were on Amazon services. If you were unable to perform certain activities, it could have been because IP logging was failing.
