So I decided to make entry. Problem is, I don't know which X Killer trope would this fall under. I think Creator Killer is a option, but I'm not sure if it's accurate or not.

  • The Grand Guignol was a theater that pioneered the Splatter Horror genre and lasted from 1897 to 1962. How the theater closed down has been the subject of debate, with the last director, Jack Jouvin claiming that the horrors of The Holocaust, such as Buchenwald, had exceeded the horrors of what the Grand Guignol could produce, though some claims that the change to psychological horror is what killed its attendance. One thing that is usually agreed on, however, is that the popularity of Horror Films around the 50s and 60s is what caused the theater to close down, since in addition to the special effects that easily replicated, if not exceeded the gruesomeness of the Grand Guignol, they were also much more profitable and further expand the settings that were initially confined to the theater. The theater that once hosted the Grand Guignol is still around, but it is now owned by the International Visual Theatre, a company that specializes show plays through sign language.

This is in Genre-Killer:

  • The poor sales and cancellation of Waai! and Otonyan and the failure of the Himegoto anime killed off virtually all mainstream attempts in the Otokonoko Genre. Not helped by the Genre Deconstruction Bokura no Hentai coming along and pointing out the genre's numerous problems, namely the large amounts of transphobia and homophobia.

The mention of Bokura no Hentai feels like Fan Myopia to me. The manga is popular enough to have possibly singlehandled killed an entire genre. I'm pretty sure the Otokonoko Genre not being mainstream has more to do with the failure of the magazines and series mentioned.

I’ve never heard of the Otokonoko Genre before outside of TV Tropes, so I assume it wasn’t that popular to begin with. And certainly there are still mangas and animes with major characters who are In Touch with His Feminine Side.

I think the Creator Killer example on Quake isn't quite right, since the studio itself didn't go bankrupt or get a bad reputation because of the Quake game, after all. I think Hostility on the Set is more fitting. How do you think?

  • Creator Killer: An interesting example as Quake was a phenomenal success that cemented id as the top FPS company in the games industry, however, internally, it also tore the previously tight-knit company apart. In a retrospective about its creation, designer Sandy Petersen recounted how working on the game killed the friendly atmosphere within the company and led to 7 of id Software's 12 developers leaving, himself and John Romero included, and id was never the same afterwards.

[up]Agreed that it’s more like Hostility on the Set, and it doesn’t need much editing and additions to change it to that trope.
