Wick Check Project

I feel like it may need a rename bc its name invites snark or be moved to DarthWiki?

Sorry for the double post, but can someone review my Memetic Hand Gesture Wick Check and give me feedback, especially on the "Misuse for other tropes/vague potholes/other" folder? Do the wicks there fit Character Tics like my comments say?

The trope currently has 4K inbounds, so I'm not sure how viable cutting it will be.

• The Mass Effect example can probably be moved to the Universal Hand Gesture folder because its air quotes. But I agree its also low on context.
• The Frollo Show can probably be moved to the ZCE folder because, while it explains what the gesture is, it does not explain the memetic or iconic part of the trope.
• Characters.Danganronpa Male Students I would sort under Universal Hand Gesture. I don't think it counts as a Character Tic because I don't see how the horns sign is really idiomatic of anything^note but then again I'm only familiar with the gesture as somethings fans at a concert do when rocking out so I might be missing something here

Well... The Catchphrase Wick Check is done. Yay. Once again, thanks ~@Yindee for the wick dumps, that really helped me out! If anyone wants to do a double check in case I sorted something wrong (some examples were hard to judge because context was all over the place but I think I got it)

Current rundown is 54% ZCE usage and 1.3% correct usage. :|

With such a large ZCE rate and such a low correct usage rate, I'm wondering what all could be done aside from either 1) a long-term cleanup or 2) giving it an Example Sectionectomy. Both have their pros and cons but I'm also open to other ideas. There are 22K wicks, so this will be a very big project.

I'm doing a wick check for Giant Poofy Sleeves because I think it has the same problems that most cut appearance-based tropes fall into (that being chairs).

Yes, I'd love some help. I picked 16 because I was told that most wick checks use a square number, and 16 was the the closest root number to 275.

Oh, actually it's whatever number is the biggest between the square root number and 50. Here's an excerpt from Administrivia.How To Do A Wick Check

Also, most wick checks do 50 wicks. Usually, wick checks that use the square root/50+ wicks are tropes with large wick counts like Deadpan Snarker.

it’s the square root of the wick count or 50, whichever is higher. So 50 is the minimum.

I'm thinking about doing a second wick check for Bile Fascination because the on-page examples are getting filled with complaining and natter and at the very least, I have an argument to make for returning the page to off-page examples only. Maybe even doing another vote on making it IUEO like we tried last time. Either way, I want to try to stop the page from getting even more complain-y.

This time, however, I want to make absolutely certain that this wick check, OP, etc. are done well. That's why I'm asking, A. should I try this again, and B. would everyone be willing to help me out with this check (or even just reading it over when it's done to see if I misclassified anything) so that we can avoid what happened last time?

If this is a dumb idea then I will not do it, I just want to gauge opinions.

~Selkies and ~Badtothebaritone - I've finally had the chance to go through Sandbox.Hell Is That Wick Check and not only finish checking the leftover examples, but I've also reorganized everything into categories that made things less confusing. Any thoughts before I tally up the usage and figure out a TRS OP?

@Mayor : I'm not sure if I agree with your proposed solution, but I see no reason not to take it back to TRS if a wick check shows a problem. I'd help with the wick check if you make one.

Mayor, don't let this demotivate you! You can still help others' wick checks and do other TRS related work anyway if you want to. I'm sure learning from where you went wrong in your checks and improving future ones is encouraged.

It isn’t just the failed thread(s)—I’ve not mentally been the best lately either. Though I’m starting to feel better so maybe I will continue.

I mean, if the motivation is sapped I see no issue with just waiting until the motivation is back. Forcing yourself to keep doing wick checks probably won't help in the long run.

It's good so far, although, "She's mildly self conscious of the way she speaks." Isn't really just "speaks this way" but it indicates that a character is embarrassed by their dialect if we don't have this trope already.
