Still though, if Audience Reactions is "outdated" in the sense of having some IUEO tropes, talking about it is valid.

Because it seems there's a lot of consensus, I created the redirect.

TV Tropes Forum is linked at the bottom of the forum index, but the herald list is very outdated. I would fix it myself, but I don't really know where to find the updated list of heralds.

EDIT: And I wouldn't cut Main.This Troper, as it has over 8,000 inbounds. Not to mention it may be hardwired into the system (or whatever). But just make it a redirect to Administrivia.First Person Writing (if that sees the light of day).

There's been a lot of talk about This Troper no longer being a redlink, and how it should be fixed— but I disagree with that. If we move it to Administrivia, then that's an extra step people would have to go to to use the "trope". People who natter aren't going to want to sit and type Administrivia/ThisTroper when cutting the namespace is much more convenient; and since the link was red to disaude people from using it, making it Administrivia would also be a disincentive.

As for Main.This Troper, I personally wouldn't mind cutting partially because keeping it around defeats the purpose of moving it to Administrivia, and the inbounds are from years worth of clicks, likely dating back to when using This Troper was more common. If it's hardwired, though, c'est la vie...

I agree with deleting This Troper and instead making an Administrivia page for our policy on first-person writing.

If Administrivia.First Person Writing ends up being the new location of Main.This Troper, then Administrivia.This Troper should be a redirect to catch inbounds after Main.This Troper is cut.

The reason why This Troper is a page is because it's the most straightforward place to say so (the place that people hit when they click on a link to This Troper). But since a lot of people only check the colour of a link, not what it actually heads to, that's why there was originally a fake red link.

Right, but that seems like a holdover from when everything was in main, and when This Troper was commonplace and had to be stopped at all costs. Now, with many pages being moved to Administrivia, moving This Troper would make the main version red anyway while also making it less likely anyone would use the link at all, because it's either leave a broken link behind or add the namespace, and if they added the namespace they'd realize it's an Administrivia page...

IDK. I just sincerely think this problem can be fixed by moving the page, and it feels like the current state of This Troper exists because of an older, not-quite-as-wise time.

I'm just not sure we should stray from the This Troper name. Should at least be a redirect- It's so much more recognizable.

That is the plan: To make a whole new page about first-person language and make This Troper a redirect.

Looking at the sandbox linked, the Auto Erotic Troping example is misleading; Auto-Erotic Troping is less about ego or advertising but more about when someone entry pimps pages for their own works, including by adding to subjective pages and posting about it everywhere. It also doesn't come into effect if someone isn't talking about their own works, AFAIK.

Yeah, Auto-Erotic Troping doesn't always involve first-person writing. In fact, sometimes the only way to know it's Auto-Erotic Troping is to check the history and see who made the page.

When I wrote Auto-Erotic Troping, it was to cover cases that are less obvious than first-person writing. I haven't seen any articles (other than Tropers pages) written entirely in first person in a long time.

I think I might have stumbled upon one a while ago, and said page would've been about a decade old, so it's definitely not the big issue anymore.

I do think we need to mention AET, we just need to change how we discuss it.

Mentioning Self-Demonstrating pages should also be done, because not every first-person page is the creator talking about themselves, but is instead written from the character's POV.

Neglected to mention a couple of things:

• I like the image suggestion for the first-person writing page.
• Cutting Main.This Troper after moving the page to Administrivia won't prevent people from finding the page. Even if Administrivia.First Person Writing is the new location of the page, having Administrivia.This Troper as a redirect will allow the auto-disambig system to find the page's new location.
  Plus, it would keep the link from turning blue again, negating the need for an artificial red link.

Honestly, the whole thing might need to go; you may want to make it a "see also" thing instead, because it has nothing to do with the First Person issue.
