Wait...I have an idea, but it might not come to anything. I've seen ads on YouTube for a Animesque mobile game where all the characters are anthropomorphized foods. If there's a vanilla ice cream in that bunch, maybe it could be a Visual Pun.

My idea was have the cast be doing something crazy then have an arrow pointing to the plain main character....

I don't think my idea's going to work...there's a vanilla ice cream character, but he's paired with a strawberry ice cream character and I couldn't find an in-game pic of them for dialogue.
Even if it only shows one guy, I think it would illustrate Only Sane Man rather than this trope.
This trope is basically Only Sane Man as the protagonist though. Heck that page's image is also this trope.

I can see this illustrated with a generic/bland-looking protagonist surrounded by a visually more interesting supporting cast, but nothing's coming to mind for that. (EDIT: Sonic X

That might work.
Is that kid the actual protagonist?
It's an ensemble cast, and he is a major character. He gets more screentime than Sonic himself at times.
