edited to add this information, since this is going to be a long clean-up
"Donald Trump, as with any other current political figure, should not be a subject of any trope example on the wiki, except:
- When the work in question specifically mentions the RL individual.
- When the entirety of the example has to do with the portrayal of that individual in the work.
- When the work is fictional.
All three of these must apply.
Alternatively:
- When the RL individual has a creative role themselves, such as writing or acting in a work. In this sense we give them no more nor less treatment then we would any other creator.
Additionally, please make sure to take out any examples of "Funny Aneurysm" Moment, Harsher in Hindsight, or Hilarious in Hindsight regarding these political figures. A political event that may be seen positively by some people may be seen negatively by others.
We're starting with the wicks to Donald Trump (There were 751 of them at the starting point of this count.)
Wicks have already been checked and cleared up to

Given the current political climate, talking about Donald Trump on this Wiki is a very sensitive topic and pretty much any comment on him could easily end up violating the Rule of Cautious Editing Judgment. I talked it over on Ask a Troper and a moderator gave me permission to start this topic. I feel it will be necessary to make sure any mention of him is safe and avoids politically charged or biased opinions. Right now, we need to stick to facts, not opinions.

I'm surprised that Black Lives Matter isn't locked by my suggestion. How is it right now?
Thomas fans needed! Come join me in the the show's cleanup thread! The section critical of Trump is the part that keeps getting tweaked and I keep asking for more thoughts on it, cuz it's not egregiously bad but I don't know how much attention it needs.
I do some cleanup and then I enjoy shows you probably think are cringe. This was added to History Repeats.
- The long, hot summer of 1967 saw civil unrest and race riots across the US during summer in response to racism against African Americans. 53 years later, the same thing happened again during the summer of 2020 with the George Floyd protests.
Is it trying to imply that civil unrest and race riots were never a thing between the sixties and 2020?
I'm pretty sure protests have always been happening, just not always in the eyes of the mainstream media.
I do some cleanup and then I enjoy shows you probably think are cringe. For me, I thought more of the George Floyd protests with the 1992 LA Riots.

- The entire sequence where the GRC senators are kidnapped by the Flag Smashers is nothing short of terrifying. Sure, the show may not have the best opinion on the US government in the slightest, yet it's still pretty terrifying to be in that kind of situation, especially considering that this aired only a few months after the U.S. Capitol was attacked by a violent mob bent on overthrowing the government. Making things worse is that some of the GRC's security forces were collaborating with the Flag-Smashers from the inside, which again mirrors the real-life infiltration of American law enforcement and armed forces by white nationalists.
Thoughts?
(there would be a lot of fire emoji here, but emoji apparently don't work on the forums)
It sounds like it could be a disturbing scene, but the entry relies too much on meta horror.
I do some cleanup and then I enjoy shows you probably think are cringe.Maybe it's Realism-Induced Horror?
Currently Working On: Incorruptible Pure PurenessThis is on Home Alone under Unintentional Period Piece:
- Donald Trump's cameo is quite painful after his massive fall from grace after his controversies since the 2016 Presidential election and especially after losing the 2020 Presidential election, inciting a riot that left his reputation destroyed and any reputable businesses still connected to him desperate to cut off all ties. What's more: the director considered cutting out Trump's scene, but kept it because audiences kept applauding to it. In the wake of the controversy, Macauly Culkin even made a just partly-joking suggestion that his 40-year-old self be edited into the scene in place of Trump.

This is a "Trump bad" example at its worst.
I had a dog-themed avatar before it was cool.I mean, there might be something there if even the producers want to remove that scene in future edits, but UPP isn't subjective (though it probably should be) and this example is bad and should feel bad.
Currently Working On: Incorruptible Pure PurenessA single cameo doesn't really date the film to specifically the 1990s, does it? That reads like an attempt to get around Harsher in Hindsight.
The crew considering replacing his cameo could maybe fit a discussion of Distanced from Current Events though.
I do some cleanup and then I enjoy shows you probably think are cringe.- Upon his election, Donald Trump immediately began asking how to add his face to the monument, posing for pictures with his face framed as a fifth face. Before his failed reelection bid then South Dakota governor Kristi Norm even presented him a four foot model of exactly that in a bid to replace his Vice President. His general lack of public approval and presidential misconduct ensured this would never happen.
That just seems like a non-notable aversion.
SoundCloudThe Home Alone example is just a stealth "Funny Aneurysm" Moment example. It does nothing to establish how Trump's presence makes it a period piece. I suggest cutting it.
You fell victim to one of the classic blunders! This example in the real life folder of Treachery Is a Special Kind of Evil.
- Donald Trump, himself commonly accused of treason by detractors (a matter best debated elsewhere), famously lamented how no-one convicted of treason in America is ever executed anymore in his call to out the whistleblower who ultimately got him impeached for abuse of power and contempt of Congress.
I went ahead and removed that.
Metal Gear Rising: Revengeance
- Hilarious in Hindsight:
- In general, the climax with Senator Armstrong is hilarious in light of the 2016 American Presidential election, and you can have a lot of fun drawing comparisons between Armstrong's Motive Rant and a certain U.S. president.
- It also makes his use of "make America great again" (which was meant to be a Shout-Out to Ronald Reagan's 1980 campaign with George HW Bush) even funnier since the phrase was adopted by Trump's campaign and quickly became memetic in its own right.
- Even funnier, doing a No-Damage Run against him on Hard difficulty or higher (in Jetstream Sam's DLC campaign) nets you the achievement "You're Hired".
- In general, the climax with Senator Armstrong is hilarious in light of the 2016 American Presidential election, and you can have a lot of fun drawing comparisons between Armstrong's Motive Rant and a certain U.S. president.
Is this still too soon or inappropriate to add?
It feels like a ROCEJ issue, but the "You're Hired" bit and the MAGA bit combined at least feel like something.
I do some cleanup and then I enjoy shows you probably think are cringe.I've seen tons of people referencing the "Make America Great Again" line as a joke, so it definitely is viewed as Hilarious in Hindsight.
Although the natter should definately be removed.
Thomas fans needed! Come join me in the the show's cleanup thread!Found on Values Resonance:
- "Trapper Keeper" satirized the outcome of the 2000 election with Rosie O'Donnell objecting to the results of the kindergarten's student election just because her nephew didn't win. This episode became relevant again in 2016 when protests erupted immediately after Trump was elected and he took office with single-digit approval ratings from Democrats. And then became even more relevant still when Trump lost the 2020 election cleanly and flatly refused to accept it, insisting that the election had been rigged despite every single legal challenge brought against it being dismissed.
Something feels a little off to me about this entry. It might just be me though. Is it?

Worth mentioning that the writer plans to remove that lyric for the movie adaptation due to the controversy surrounding Trump.
There might be an objective statement in there that Lin Manuel Miranda personally is a big anti-Trump guy.
