Just looking at Deadpool, which starts with this note:

   Deadpool's demonstrative disclaimer of disambiguation:
Hey there, true believers! Unfortunately TV Tropes wants my pages "clear" and "concise" now. I'm only allowed to demonstrate myself in my own domain if I wanna stay the Merc with a Mouth. So don't go putting ol' Wade's examples into first-person here, 'kay?!

As that's for editors, not readers, is it something that could/should be switched to a comment?

I'll flag it on the discussion page too.

Deadpool was a pain in the ass to fix and since he’s a pretty popular 4th wall breaker that note does need to be there. Although it’s been awhile since the change was made so I guess it could be a comment instead.

It's gonna be fun on the bun!

Just noticed ComicBook.Hydra, which looks to be in the wrong namespace.

As far as I can tell, Marvel have never published a comic called Hydra, so it's not a work name - there are some arcs with Hydra in the name, and two series that give them top billing (A Hank Johnson, Agent of Hydra one-shot and a miniseries called Hail Hydra, both in 2015), but that's it.

This looks as if it should actually be a Marvel Universe subpage - Characters.Marvel Comics Hydra - there's a Characters.Hydra already, which should presumably be renamed and merged into that.

Any concerns or views on this?

Should ContinuitySnarl.Donna Troy be moved to ContinuitySnarl.Wonder Girl to match the parent work?

I had a dog-themed avatar before it was cool.

Just noticed that Advertising.American Honda Presents DC Comics Supergirl was added to one of the comic indices...

It's a comic book Public Service Announcement for seatbelt safety, but it is a comic - should it be in the ComicBook namespace rather than Advertising?

I would say that is a comic and should be moved over.

Created Doctor Mid Nite, to clean up Doctor Mid Nite, and either send it to Characters/ or merge it somewhere else if there's not enough bytes.

There's a comic book featuring the second one under that name, but it isn't troped on the current page outside of Pieter's origin from what I can see.

Any help or feedback is welcome!

Edit: Okay, so the page as is only 15700 bytes which is not nearly enough for a separate page, and I don't think my cleanup will help it grow. Where would it be merged, then?

Probably the Justice Society would be the best place to put them.

[up]Ok, Charles and Pieter can go there easily, but what should be done with Beth's trope list? The vast majority of her appearences was as part of Infinity, Inc. where she currently has another trope list. But she recently joined the mainline JSA, and has been there for some time.

I was thinking of going Infinity Inc., but what do you guys think?

(ofc, she'll be listed on both, before anyone asks, just saying which one will the tropes themselves be)

Was there ever a view on how we handle run, arc and issue specific ComicBook pages?

  • Comic Book Run lays out some guidance on runs by a specific writer / creative team. They're treated as a subdivision of Long-Runners and generally republished as multi-volume works in their own right. As of 2023, they're increasingly irrelevant for pages on newer works, as publishers tend to end and relaunch the series whenever the run ends, to emphasise the creative team changeover, so we do have distinct works (each of which qualifies for a page in its own right, not much grey area here). However, still very relevant when considering work pages for any series more than a decade or so old.
  • Arcs are either subdivisions of runs or fit between them (E.g. Kraven's Last Hunt). They are likely to be reprinted in a single volume, or sometimes in multiple volumes.

For both of these, we seem to be using ComicBook rather than recap, which makes some level of sense given the way the medium works.

Then we have things like Fantastic Four #1 - a page for a single issue of a comic because it's considered notable. The short length of a work is no barrier to page creation, but if the argument rests on notability, I do wonder if these should go to recap?

...and, more generally, where do we draw the line? We generally say subpages shouldn't be split if that leaves the parent page too short; does that logic apply when creating pages for every new arc within a particular comic book run as well?

[up]Re: the last comment, I'd say that makes sense. Similarly I'd say if a page is getting too big, splitting a run/storyline if it helps trim it down would make sense.

Starman (DC Comics) is weird. The description and trope list are all about James Robinson's run but the character page (and YMMV) seem to cover the entire legacy mantle (although they're also primarily Robinson)

Theoretically, it could be turned into a collection for all the Starman stuff, and Robinson moved to his own page but none of the rest is covered on the site outside of those two subpages. Adventure Comics has a page, but none of the tropes are about the Starman features. Neither First Issue Special nor Showcase have pages and ofc the 1988 one ain't covered either.

(I might read trough all the pre-Robinson Starman stuff just to create the page, it isn't that much)

ETA: Misremembered, second one is The Brave and the Bold, which do has a page, altho it still doesn't have any examples from the Starman story.

[down] I'll do it yeah

Ideally, Starman (DC Comics) should be a hub for all Starman-related things, which is why the character page is for all of them. If you want to reformat the page to be more about the franchise and move the Robinson stuff to its own page go ahead.

It is ok to edit Comic Character Cleanup to remove stuff that's already been done? I plan to use it to clean-up some "Character Page in work Namespace" still existent, and it'd be good to have it w/o the bloat of the stuff that's already done.

EDIT: Would it also be OK to merge Tropers, Go! into Crisis on Infinite Pages and Tropers, Assemble! into Gigan Kills the Marvel Universe? The stuff on the part 1 ones are already done, and I think it's better to only have one for it all.

[down] I'm not sure what you mean, I'll just keep the pages as is and do it on my own sandboxes I guess.

[down][down]Oh, thanks, I'll keep it in mind

If we do merge personally I'd move the part 1 stuff into part 2, as part 1 is technically finished and part 2 is currently keeping track of where everything is. Regarding removing stuff, I wouldn't if it's still got a blue link. It helps keep track of where everything is and what needs to be done.

[up][up]It is perfectly acceptable to edit project sandboxes to remove the finished stuff. I have no ownership over it anymore. (But keep in mind that a move is not really "finished" until the character page actually reads like a character page instead of a biography, which is a recurring problem with these pages thanks to the decade-plus of misuse.)

I'm working on cleaning up Valor into only the actual comic called that, which is easier as it's examples are split. Besides that he also got duplicate folders on Legion of Super-Heroes: Silver Age and Superman – Supporting Cast, and I'm moving examples to the former as it fits him better. I categorized the non-Valor examples on Legion And JSA Cleanup, and I'd like if anyone has any feedback for it. Especially on the "Unsure" folders and if anyone is able to expand the New Krypton ZC Es. If not, no worries, I'll just cut them.

Edit: No one answered, so I moved it all and cut ZC Es I couldn't expand and stuff I was unsure on.

WesternAnimation.Pete might need some attention from this thread, despite the namespace.

[up] Looks like a character page in the WesternAnimation namespace. Pete's the antagonist, the works aren't generally named Pete etc.

So the same situation as the comic/character pages that started this thread, but not entirely on-topic. Might be one for the Character Specific Page cleanup thread, because if Pete doesn't meet the criteria for a CSP, we'll want to merge/restructure the page anyway.

Edit: Took it to the CSP cleanup thread for agreement on next steps.

I didn't take it to that thread since it mostly looks at Character Sheets. It's annoying to have two threads whose scope doesn't quite cover this case.

Pete has been a major character in several series (including comic books), but has never really starred in one of his own.
