From Kingdom Hearts II:

  • Kairi's panties are visible from certain camera angles. Removed in HD 2.5 Final ReMIX; attmepting to look at them exposes the inside of her character model instead.
  • A NPC has this to say about a certain landmark in Twilight Town:
—-> "Have you been to Sunset Hill? The sunset there is breathtaking! Long ago, my wife and I would... ah, never mind."
  • The inside of Tinker Bell's skirt is very briefly visible during Peter Pan's summoning animation.

High School of the Dead and Maken-Ki both seem pointless. So many examples of nipple-slips and butt shots, despite the fact that they're both late night series intended for mature audiences. They basically have no radar except for Japanese law (ex. if a vagina slipped in).

I don't see how Misty wearing an Age-Inappropriate Dress is considered Getting Crap Past the Radar. For one, she was originally intended to be much older and was only aged down so she could be a love interest to Ash, and two, teenagers (sometimes even pre-teens) wear those kinds of outfits all the time. So really, it's not really Radar material. It's not like she's wearing fishnets or anything, that dress is pretty modest as far as Showgirl Skirts go. So why is it the page image for Pokemon? If you guys have already taken care of it, I apologize, but just a concern I had.

[up][up]Yeah, I think those pages can probably be cut. Most of the examples are of blatant fanservice that would've been noticed by any radar taking even a cursory glance at it, so I think it's safe to say that the radar allows that kind of stuff. It's not even about throwing enough crap at it to see if something sticks.

I'm also getting the impression it's written by the same kind of people who got the examples from Panty Shot removed.

[up]I think it's been replaced, unless you're talking about some page you're not linking that I can't find.

While this case does sound particularly skeevy, I've always thought this was true for a lot of GCPTR pages. It's one reason I hate them so much.

[up] I've never seen a GCPTR page with the amount of "this high school girl's cameltoe is visible in this panel, LOOK HERE'S AN HD IMAGE" those two pages do.

IMHO, this trope gets misused waaaay too much for any form of fanservice in a work, particularly when it comes to anime & manga. That Maken-ki! subpage above is just awful; the series is an ecchi (one made by a mangaka who regularly draws hentai manga & doujinshi on the side, no less,) so it's not GCPTR at all, it's just gratuitous fanserivce.

There is a difference between say a basic Shōnen series aimed at the teens range like Maken Ki and those that are clearly aimed at kids, known as Kodomomuke.

Unless its a specific thing that is banned by the manga publisher itself, such as Negima's manga bans nipples while it ran. Getting Crap Past the Radar for anime is almost exclusively to Kodomomuke animes and nothing else. Kodomomuke are the main targets of Media Watchdog too.

Our page is pretty limited on it though but as I understand it if it runs on Saturday and Sunday morning that is the big sign but not the only sign. Maken Ki first aired at 1:05 AM on a Tuesday then aired at more primetime locations on cable.

Coraline shouldn't have a subpage for just one example. I suppose one could add the heavy amount of Nightmare Fuel and child abuse metaphors on that page, but those are sort of covered by the PG rating.

Personally, here are my definitions for the trope.

- Has to be in a series which is kid/family friendly, unless it's something really bad. (E.g: The penis rocks in World of Warcraft). As such, only media for kids or families should be applicable.

- Can't be too subtle. You have to be able to tell it's inappropriate content without reading in too much.

- Can't be a reference to a adult show. That is Parental Bonus.

So, I think we should do for this cleanup effort is...

- Cut most, if not all, examples for T, M and AO rated Video Games, PG-13, R, and NC-17 rated movies, and TV-14 and TV-MA rated games.

- Cut all examples that are references to adult shows.

- Cut all extremely subtle examples.

I won't cut any pages yet, (I'll need approval) but I will go through the examples and try to cut Parental Bonus, and Accidental Innuendo examples.

Before I post this, is this a good example? It's not a kids' show but a rather extreme example of crap flying past the radar of a major ratings board.

"The English dub of Hell Girl episode 7 gave Ayaka and a few other characters foul mouths, with thirteen F-bombs in that particular episode, most of them aggressively used (such as Ayeka's Wham Line where she drops her innocent act towards her mother - "You fucking hag.") The BBFC somehow passed this episode with a 12 rating, despite the standards at 12 stating that aggressive and frequent strong language will automatically push a work towards a 15."

I would say that's not an example because there was no attempt to disguise it. The board not doing their job is not the same thing as someone trying to sneak stuff past it.

About the "Has to be subtle, not a plot point" rule, I disagree with it. I think it can count even if it's a plot point. If anything, the less subtle, the more shocking.

For example, let's say My Little Pony: Friendship Is Magic features an episode where all the earth ponies get put in Nazi death camps. It's not really subtle, in fact, it's the plot. However, let's say another episode features them going to a camp, and Pinkie Pie (or someone) says "I'm glad it's not that kind of camp." That's a much more subtle, offhand reference. Which one do you think is more shocking?

Well, neither is GCPTR if it's explicit in the show and the censors passed it. This trope keeps getting misunderstood. It requires the specific intent to dodge or deceive censorship. If that's not present, it's not GCPTR. It could be something else instead, like Parental Bonus, Very Special Episode, etc., but it ain't this.
