Discuss TV Tropes itself, such as observations you've made about the site/forum/wiki.
NOTE: Keep it civil; try not to get into any Flame Bait-y territory, per the forum rules (in particular, drama importation and popcorn posting are not allowed, and this thread is for discussion about the site and not the users). In addition, while discussing the Edit Banned thread is not prohibited on its own, discussing and/or alluding to specific cases is not permitted.
One thing I've noticed is that for all how the page for They Might Be Giants claims them to be the unofficial official band of this wiki, there's relatively few people on this site who seem to ever reference them.

Fortnite is mostly popular with young teenagers from what I understand.
College-aged people as well from what I understand.
My own college is full of players.
It's also full of cunts, not that I want to imply there's overlap between those to groups of people.
Anyway, as for positivy, you have to keep in mind the people most likely to work on any given page are the fans of that work, for reasons that should be self-evident.
To use myself as an exemple: I like Berserk, Goblin Slayer, Gantz, and Dragon Ball, so I'll be more inclined to add to those pages.
I am, however, not a fan of Akame ga Kill, Neon Genesis Evangelion, Harry Potter, Nanatsu no Taizai and Star Wars, so I'm not exactly going out of my way to work on those pages, and hell, not liking, and therefore not following, those works also means I have very little to add in the first place.

Fortnite's massive popularity bewilders me.

It's one thing to make a spectacle. It's another to make a difference.I don't really "get" it either but I just see it as the new fad like MOB As were a few years back.
I think MOBA grew to the point we can't just dismiss it as a "fad".
Though I suppose that depends on how one defines a "fad", for me it needs to be short-lived, and MOB As have been going on strong for nearly a decade now.
Which, considering how the companies tend to treat its own employees, it's hardly a good thing.
Mine too, that's why I was confused. :P
He may be a giant, nightmarish brute, but like all villains in this series,he sure can sing.I kinda have a different view. You see, youtube and reddit... can get annoying with their fierce hatred of this game.
Seeing way too many "Fortnite bad, Minecraft good" posts, of varying quality, memes, pictures... whatever shit, unironic or ironic, mild or extreme, I grew a reverse hype aversion.
That is to say, the game is as inoffensive, perfectly ignorable and mild as it can get. It looks nice, I like visuals but not once have I ever felt to jump aboard the hate wagon.
It gets ridiculous
Edit: I forgot I said something like this before elsewhere that I'd ignore both. Thinking about it, Fortnite isn't all that bad but still something I can ignore and be fine

I don't know why Minecraft is still big either
It's one thing to make a spectacle. It's another to make a difference.Yeah, I feel that - overblown hate of anything can get really annoying, really fast. While I have some dislike for Fortnite that's all about its business model, lootboxes and so on (and Fortnite is far from the only game doing this) - the game itself outside of that I'm perfectly neutral on.

shouldn't his favorite genre be RPG and not point and click thoughYeah I have no strong feelings on fortnite either way.
I hate Fortnite for its gameplay but have no problem with people playing it otherwise.
The people whom go all crazy on other websites (like Reddit) and constantly harass kids whom like it to a disgusting level genuinely piss me off. There is this general attitude in the gaming community which has been around for decades that if kids touch something its automatically god awful because god forbid kids enjoy anything that adults do. It's been getting worse in the past few years as now edgy assholes are doxxing kids, sending death threats, and nasty calls of violence to them and then trying to act like it's A-OK because the kid likes something they don't. Absolutely disgusting
I am glad that this website stays away from that shittiness for the most part.
Hardly anything new when it comes to the Internet, though, unfortunetaly.
Though that raises a good question: are there any cases of people on this site being doxxed by another troper?
> are there any cases of people on this site being doxxed by another troper?
Sometimes its better not to ask
New theme music also a boxWell, Minecraft is Minecraft. That's why it can enchant old and young players with it's blocky spell.
I never got to say this when the debate was at it's prime, but the rivalry between the two games almost doesn't make sense. They're polar opposites in terms of gameplay, features, and appeal. The only thing they have in common is the fanbases of nostalgic older teens and trend following young kids.
Merry Chriztmaz ya filthy animals! At least on Reddit, it has reached the point that any meme or joke that amounts to "Fortnite bad, Minecraft good" will get roundly mocked and downvoted unless it shows some actual creativity. So while the game may be too successful and enduring to be called a fad, the hatred for it certainly counts as one.
On the matter of gushing on the wiki: it's a problem, an inevitable one since most editors are fans of what they edit. (Indeed, the most active and vocal tend to be fans and haters; not a good combination.) But it's far less of one than it was when I started around 2009, when article descriptions would be blatantly opinionated. It was heaping praise on Saikano (which I find to be hilariously narmy) and beating down on Space1999. Other articles seemed to be defensive for liking something. It made me scream "Just tell us what it is! No need to apologise!" Among the worst still standing is With Strings Attached and its sequel, for both gushing and a humongous quote that takes up half the entry.
We have a thread for removing gushing in the long-term projects section, but the problem is that for obscure media, we need to find a troper who both knows the work and knows how to write an article. The overlap is often small.
Stories don't tell us monsters exist; we knew that already. They show us that monsters can be trademarked and milked for years. There are too many people in the TLP who either want someone else to do all their work for them or don’t understand that they don’t need to put their idea up as soon as they thought of it without the needed substance.
I mean, is one example you’ve seen before too much to ask for?
SoundCloudI completely agree with you. There's even a whole forum thread about this, and one of the most common problems is that the OP of the trope wants other people to do the examples for them. Other times the OP will just ignore the criticism of the troper body and launch anyway. A very bad problem is the whole misconception that "5 hats and 3 days make it OK to launch." There's a reason why some of the tropes end up on that forum thread.
I'll admit, even though it's not intentional, there's times that I feel like I fall into the "other people do the work for me" trap with examples on my TLP drafts.
Kind of overlaps with Odd confessions, but I think it's more fitting for this one. In the casting threads on Forum Games (this one especially), I like to imagine that the tropers/avatars casted are putting on an amateur production of each work as a play. :P
He may be a giant, nightmarish brute, but like all villains in this series,he sure can sing.Aww.
A great Mascot Mook.Like in You Tube comments section and other forums, pretty much every big thread for a fictional work here has someone complaining about them being the most toxic fanbase. It's getting real old.
I'm a (socialist) professional writer serializing a WWII alternate history webnovel.i observed... that this place is a site/forum/wiki!
Apparently this site has a crap ton of bronies. I haven't seen them but I know they're around because the mlp: fim trope page is one of the biggest I've ever seen.
"Hope for our world, tragedy for another."> I haven't seen them
they're masters of stealth, the last thing their victims is the sound of coconut shells..

As far as I know, nobody I know on here (mostly the Forum Games crowd) likes Fortnite (and neither do I. :P) But it seems like there's still so much hype for it everywhere else. I mean, there are still tournaments and stuff going on.
