Creating Franchise Pages Wherever Appropriate

Go To

This thread is for questions regarding creating or cutting pages in Franchise/ namespace and Franchise Index.

As a reminder, being a Series Franchise doesn't mean a Work can have a Franchise/ page. For that it needs existing (not Red Link) and connected (official releases for the same trademark) Work pages in 3 different Mediums, not 3 pages for the same property in general.

If it doesn't meet those criteria, the section about related releases can be on page of the first installment.

    Original first post
Now, I don't know about you, but we don't seem to have that many Franchise pages.

For instance, Video Games. Take a look at this page. I guarantee that we don't even have that many listed in the Franchise namespace.

Also, I set up Franchise pages for Duke Nukem, Deer Hunter, and Grand Theft Auto.

Wouldn't it be more appropriate to list multiple games in a Franchise page as opposed to a Video Game page?

I have encountered Franchise.Super Stylish Doctors Story. Where should we send it, since it's likely misuse of the namespace?

Edit: Move to Radio? We don't have pages for any other mediums.

Franchise.Miss Marple has now been created as per the post on the previous page (#893).

Still populating it, but it's got most of the existing pages now.

[up][up] Given that we need pages in three namespaces, not just works... yeah, definitely misuse.

Which one's the radio page? I'm assuming it has a different name.

(We might need to think about moving the Characters page, too - it may get orphaned without the franchise)

Just realised that we have a franchise page for Hawkeye. Does it really qualify?

...and a lot of appearances as a team member or supporting character in film, computer games, anime etc. But nothing where he's the lead or in the title.

We don't normally consider that sufficient for a shared universe character to get a Franchise page in their own right, do we?

I don't see a third medium here. It's gotta go.

I created a page for The Dragon Prince: Reflections, a short story collection for The Dragon Prince. Between this and Through the Moon, do you think The Dragon Prince is ready for a Franchise page?

[up] ComicBook + WesternAnimation + Literature so, yeah, that's your three namespaces.

Coming in from the Marvel Comics repair thread, Franchise.Black Widow does qualify but it lists several entries where she does not headline or headline as part of the team, but where she makes appearances. Would it be safe to remove those?

[up] This is a question I've been wondering about for a while. As per the Hawkeye discussion, it's pretty clear that if a character's in a supporting, team or cameo role, the work doesn't count as an extra namespace for franchise purposes.

But if it is still a presence in a work or adaptation (e.g. a "guest fighter" role in a video game), does it warrant a Franchise page reference? I can't think where else it would go.

I believe those can be mentioned on the Franchise/ page, despite not technically being entries in the franchise. It's just that they're not eligible to count as one of the three namespaces for Franchise eligibility.

I'm not sure if this is the right place for this, but I've been going through Franchise.Spider Man, and I've noticed that the majority of tropes are comic tropes, character tropes, or duplicated tropes from ComicBook.Spider Man. I'm also fairly certain that the franchise namespace is usually just an index for the various works. I'm proposing merging the tropes from Franchise.Spider Man into ComicBook.Spider Man, so that all the main tropes are on one page, and that Franchise.Spider Man matches all of the other Marvel Franchise pages like Franchise. The Incredible Hulk or Franchise.X Men. I've already done the ground work and created a sandbox of the merge here, so I just need opinions on whether or not it's the right thing to do.

It's gonna be fun on the bun!

AFAIK, Franchise pages can have tropes as long as they're franchise-wide, they just don't need to have them. A lot, probably the majority, of the tropes on Spider-Man aren't franchise-wide though, like you said.

Are you proposing moving the examples on Franchise.Spider Man / Sandbox.Spider Man Tropes Merger to ComicBook.Spider Man? If so, that wouldn't work, because not all the tropes are for the comics.

The ones that are from the comics can be moved to ComicBook.Spider Man, and any that are for specific works can moved to the pages for those works (if the works have pages), e.g. the Badbutt example, which says it's for "the '90s cartoon".

Animated Adaptation is for the animated adaptations themselves, not the comics. I'd think it can stay on the franchise page, since it shows that the franchise as a whole has a trend of getting animated adaptations.

Anything that's discussing multiple mediums, e.g. Lost in Imitation, should stay on the franchise page.

Ok so I’ll keep anything that discusses more than one franchise on the Franchise page. Anything talking about the comics or the characters without going into adaptions should get moved to the Comics page?

[up] My understanding is that the main ComicBook.Spider Man page should be there to cover the examples that are common to all/multiple comics, so that sounds good.

Anyone think differently?

To make new Franchise pages, the limit of namespaces is three right? I'm seeing if The LEGO Movie should get one

[up] Three namespaces, all of which have at least one works page, yep. Pages for unreleased works count.

(And if the work exists but we don't have a page in the namespace yet, it doesn't count)

Ok. They got the four Western Animation pages for each of the films and one Video Game namespace (VideoGame. The Lego Movie Videogame). I don’t see a third namespace but we can probably make one somehow. They do have a 4D film

Franchise.Dragon Quest is currently a redirect to VideoGame.Dragon Quest. Since it has work pages in three namespaces, should the pages be swapped?
