Today I found out an interesting fact from troper Ironeye:

Don't ever make the mistake of using the Laconic version as the canonical trope meaning—the laconics are often written by people who don't actually understand the drop. In this case, the laconic only corresponds to one possible cause of Darkness-Induced Audience Apathy.

The Laconic Description for DIAA states as follows:

The thing is, these descriptions are supposed to make it easier to understand what the page is about. If they can't be accurate as well as short and sweet, then there's a problem.

So for starters, what would be a better description for DIAA?

Virtual Paper Doll's laconic makes it look like a duplicate for Character Customization...when the two tropes cover different aspects.

Should VPD's laconic be adjusted a bit to show that it's about changing clothes worn by a character?

I thought that Virtual Paper Doll is for preexisting character that can be customized while Character Customization is about creating your own character.

Laconic. The Arab Spring was just changed from:

"A revolutionary wave in the Middle East starting in early 2010s against authoritarian governments, only for things to not go as expected."

To:

"The Revolutions of 1848, IN THE 21ST CENTURY, WITH ARABS!."

I vote for a revert.

Also, we might want to let ~karstovich2 know that’s not how laconics are supposed to be written.

Edit: nope, still can’t get that right in one try.

I stumbled upon Laconic.Video Review Show while dewicking Snark Bait, and although I removed the Snark Bait pothole, I realized it doesn't properly describe what it's a Laconic for. Not all video review shows are like what it describes.

Time and Relative Dimensions in Space...

I'm not sure what it exactly is... But I've used it as Time Travel mixed with Teleportation...

Is that a good laconic? It sounds right...

The trope appears to be about situations where simply travelling through time isn't all there is to it. The work links time travel and location together. The time travel will therefore have a location in space linked to act. Whether the characters travel in time but stay in the same location, or travel in time and end up in a completely different location, there is an acknowledgement made in the work about the relationship between time travel and their location.

It might be something like this:

Regardless of whether the characters remain in the same location or end up in a new one, the work acknowledges a relationship between time travel and the location the time travellers begin and end their travel in.

Or perhaps:

When a work acknowledges how time travel affects the location the time travellers end up in relative to the location they started from.

Righting Great Wrongs currently lacks a laconic. I don't know if administrivia strictly needs laconics in the first place, but I'm suggesting something like "This wiki is for documenting patterns in media, not pushing your viewpoint."

Laconic.Word Of Dante and Laconic.God Never Said That sounds almost interchangeable. One needs to be changed, but I'm not sure which.

To be honest the distiction between the tropes don't seem to be clear. Word of Dante is supposed to be about someone non-essential like a translator to the work's creation process making something canon but most of the examples sound like God Never Said That. But that description also overlaps with Word of Saint Paul which claims the difference is that WOSP is more credible than Word of Dante.

So I am not exactly sure how to fix the laconic in a way that would make it distinct from Saint Paul and God Never Said That

Word of Dante is "a Big Name Fan said this", and God Never Said That is "people think the creator said this, but they didn't". There can certainly be overlap, but the concepts themselves are pretty clearly distinct.

Word of God currently reads "The creator personally sets the record straight."

How about have Word of Dante read something like "The creator had nothing to say on this, so a Big Name Fan's opinion became Fanon."

And God Never Said That can be something like... "People think the creator said this, but they didn't."

A lot of God Never Said That has nothing to do with fanon anyway, so having it mentioned at all is misleading.

I think it's partially the page's fault for listing a bunch of things that the trope is not (and listing fanon as one of them) before actually defining what the trope is.

Also, isn't Fanon defined as "anything some fan believe is true about a work"? I think for Word of Dante it would be more accurate to say "a Big Name Fan's statement regarding the work is assumed to be Canon by the rest of the fanbase"?

The problem with that is "assumed to be canon". It's possible to "follow" Word of Dante, as it were, and still know it's not actually canon.

And fanon isn't necessarily falsely believed to be canon either.

Would "treated as Canon" work better? I mean, it's like, "I know it's not Canon, but since Word of God doesn't say anything about the subject, I might as well treat it as such"?

It means nothing to me since IDK Doraemon. (IDK this show either for the record, I stumbled on it due to crosswicking).

This... doesn't explain the trope at all.
