TLP Crash Rescue - Fixing prematurely launched TLPs and pages

Go To

Prematurely launched pages and pages that weren't fully fleshed out at the point of launching, are a big problem. Since these usually share several problems at once, this thread is aimed at re-running them through the TLP for fixing - the usual fix - or cutting them if they are too bad.

Problems this thread deals with include bad names, not enough/bad examples, unclear description, etc.

For the interested, here's a list of recently created pages. Launches

Note: Please do not request a mod to unlaunch drafts that don't have any issues besides lacking a launch notice/24hr launch notice. While 24hr launch notices are mandatory, there are a few exceptions to the rule. If you see a draft's sponsor launch a TLP without an announcement, it's best to remind them of our TLP Guidelines first. If they continue to repeatedly launch drafts without a launch notice, you can report them on Ask The Tropers or the TLP Community Issues thread.

Shining Wind only has 2 tropes listed. Further, one of them is a now-defunct trope.

The Seven Deadly Sins has no trope list at all. Unless someone has seen it and can add some context, it looks awful.

Well, what can we draw out from that summary, other than Greek Chorus?

I was hoping someone would have seen the bloody thing, so we could add tropes. There's at least two film versions (one German and one English. I assume there might be a French one too.)

The Seven Deadly Sins has some crosswicks.

I'm just going to go ahead and go with the suggestions I posited in this post for a bunch of tropes. No one has objected to any of them, and most of them have been agreed to. It's been weeks or even months for some of them, and they're just collecting wicks which is a problem.

To summarize:

Can a mod send Cast from Stamina and Literal Self Made Man back to TLP? I'll begin dewicking and add the rest to the cut list.

EDIT: Dewicked and Cutlisted all the non-TLP ones.

My Celestial Family has only 1 trope listed.

EDIT: Scratch that, looking more into it, it appears that a careless editor blanked most of the page and then didn't bother to fix it.

Actually Real Magic was launched without addressing issues from the TLP (poor name and weak second paragraph for description).

I saw that get launched and I thought "oh, this must be a trope where someone pretends to be a stage magician but uses real magic in their tricks" but... I was very off.

The name is really bad. And if it was brought up but not addressed, it absolutely has to go back.

Also, there are a bunch of examples that are more "unwittingly releasing magic" rather than "thought the magic spell was fake, turned out to be real" which are two very different things.

Not incredibly different... But it does make me interested in clarifying the trope. My first reaction was the same as yours, which might be a trope itself.

I mean, there's a pretty big difference between "Oh, magic isn't real, I'll prove it" and "huh? Ooops." One's Tempting Fate and likely leads to a Death by Irony, and the other is just tragic.

I think the trope we were thinking of is covered by Magicians Are Wizards, but it's not exactly a perfect match. A subtrope of it, for sure.

Magicians Are Wizards looks like a sliding scale deal, and not the opposite of what it describes itself as. Thanks for bringing it to my attention; I'll look at it more in-depth later.

The Double Dragon IV page has no tropes, and generally all there is a teaser that basically says that this is a thing. I suppose one could get some tropes out of it, but still a bit too early.

[up][up][up][up][up][up] Apparently the editor had "Temporarily took out spoiler-filled tropes to let fans digest the book first." for an edit reason, which is a really wierd motive. Anyway, I took care of it.

Regarding Literal Self Made Man, it's interesting that we already have the trope Self-Constructed Being (earlier on I thought that the latter was renamed to the former in TLP, but apparently no). The name is misleading, as it's really just Thomas Aquinas theological argument translated to a trope. God Created Himself would be more to the point, assuming it's tropeable to begin with.

Blue Sheep Reverie has only 1 example sufficient with context, 2 examples with insufficient context, and the rest are ZCEs.

Flirtatious Smack on the Ass — can we kill it?

The only way I could see it being a trope is if it were about the reaction as a Comedy Trope (even then, maybe), something which the current description says doesn't matter. The description is also appalling, and the "trope" is basically 'man smacks woman on ass'.

I agree that it has to say something about the person's character. But part of the problem is that, out of the examples, almost every one is a matter of using it as a flirtatious gesture, but the sentiment behind it varies from affectionate (Fergus to Elinor) to creepy (the Leverage example) to "there's butt-smacking happening" (Bob's Burgers). I think only really the last set of cases make sense to remove. There should be an aspect of actual flirting to it, whatever the purpose.

Send it back. It needs reworking.

Another of these "launched with 5 hats and 2 bombs." At the very least having a net number of hats fewer than 5 should preclude launch.

And the difference between a creeper ass-smack and a loving one is pretty huge. Definitely not the same trope.

...how do you send them back with this new design??

Also, Sushi just went and launched 7 drafts. One was an old discarded yk that wants destroying, one is half a stub. One is in / source format, but also needs sending back. The rest are in good shape, sort of, but are all very old drafts that I'd think needed some more brewing, the new ease of adding hats is what got them to 5 and they've been in discussion so long they're still working out kinks. They need to go back, and I've posted it ATT about the troper.

Deflocked has only 1 example with sufficient context with Expy (assuming for the moment that it's a legitimate example as well); the rest lack enough context.
