Sometimes I really like the context of how the fight started, but given how out of character a lot of the finishers are it becomes a moot point.
Who should Kazuma Kiryu from Yakuza fight in a Death Battle?
How about John Wick?
It's been 3000 years…Cody from Street Fighter? Wei Shen from Sleeping Dogs? Ryo Hazuki from Shenmue?
Is this another part of pony friendship? Telling each other what you learned all the time?Cody should fight either Axel Stone
Uni cat
I assume you were gonna complete that sentence with one of the Lee brothers.
I would go with the heroes of either Saints Row or one of the GTA games.
One Strip! One Strip! So I noticed that on Awesome.Death Battle Season Six, the folder for Weiss vs. Mitsuru is pretty much just a play-by-play recap of the whole fight, which might be excessive. I mean sure, it was a good episode, but is it really so great that every second of it is an Awesome Moment? It might be falling into Gushing About Shows You Like.
Also, there's this example from NightmareFuel.Death Battle which I don't think anyone will actually find scary:
- During Mitsuru's rundown, Boomstick was able to "accurately" tell the type of explosion Mitsuru survived was guarantee to kill. Wiz at first insist on using real science, but Boomstick flat out admits of using actual people for experiment to tell the explosion's lethal potential. Wiz then questions whether he used the interns for this, but Boomsticks bought him off with the fur coat Mitsuru had. Boomstick has killed interns for sciences.
Is an offscreen death Played for Laughs really notably disturbing in a show full of graphic violence? I deleted a similar example before, but someone else added it again so it might count as an Edit War if I got rid of it again.

Might be someone from RWBY fandom. There was a lot of struggling with NF page being filled with hilariously tame examples when I was still folowing RWBY thread.
If the exchange so far's already been added>deleted>added then it's already an Edit War on the other person's end, you'd only get in one if you added it back without consulting people first. Which you are! Feel free to cite here or Ask The Tropers in your edit reason.
But as you said, that flavor of (offscreen!) Black Comedy isn't something that should count for Nightmare Fuel and especially not by the series' standards. And even if it did the entry seems to pitch it more as Fridge Horror anyways, which has its own page and thus also doesn't count for Nightmare Fuel.
🏳️⚧️she/her | Vio Rhyse AlberiaIt's not really an edit war yet since the example was added by a different person than the one who originally added it. But if you guys agree that it's an overreaction, I'll delete it again and cite this thread.
What about the Awesome Moments page? Anyone else find it excessive to recap the whole episode in there?

A thought but it was mentioned a while ago of a fight between One-Punch Man's Garou & Baki's Yujiro Hanma.
Now it fits among reasons such as both being martial artists but it also works on a thematic level that I find fascinating.
Garou motivation is a villain fanboy, he's essentially that kid who watched G.I. Joe or He-Man when he was a kid and felt bad for the villains who always tried so hard yet always lose. To that end he aspires to be a great villain to beat back the invincible heroes. Even so he's not that horrible a person since he is able to socilize even befriending a kid who helps him out & in the end despite his constant beat-downs of heroes he never once killed any humans meaning he isn't irredeemable.
Yujiro on the other hand is essentially the anti-thesis of Garou's beliefs. Yujiro is pretty much an invincible villain, completely unstoppable with no hope of being beaten due to being the strongest creature on Earth. He's also a smug violent bastard. He walks the Earth with this cocky grin on his face content to do whatever he wants without anyone being able to stop him & has committed several atrocities just cause he wants too. Aside beating or mauling whoever he wants, he also raped the mother of his son Jack Hanma to conceive him (and then treating his son terribly for not being what he wants) and then murdered the mother of his other son Baki in front of him just to generate a vendetta between the two for fun. Yujiro is like a Saitama without a moral compass.
Being a violent bully at heart Yujiro essentially embodies everything Garou despises about heroes but in a villain, plus the fact Yujiro regularly makes a mockery of the very martial arts Garou works so hard at is just icing on the cake.

"I am Alpharius. This is a lie."Speaking of Saitama, the next DBC is him vs. Krillin: https://twitter.com/DEATHBATTLE/status/1139219813937455104

Yes, that's...kinda why we were talking about Saitama in the first place.
Is this another part of pony friendship? Telling each other what you learned all the time?I would go with the heroes of either Saints Row or one of the GTA games.
Even a GTA protgaonist against Kazuma is insanely unfair. "You have the Red Dragon Spirit, allowing you to unleash your fighting power to its full potential? That's nice. I have a tank"
...how would he do against Akira Yuki from Virtua Fighter? See who's the best hand to hand that Sega has to offer.
What feats does Akira have? I heard Virtua Fighter is really light on lore.
So in dwelling on the upcoming fight I had an alternative idea for who Johnny Cage could fight- who would win between him and Booster Gold?
Both are celebrities, but Cage fights to prove he's the real deal with natural talent, while Booster Gold fights to maintain a lie since he's actually a time traveler that stole his gear from a museum. Either way, both are initially assholes basking in the limelight before undergoing character development and eventually taking their roles more seriously.
🏳️⚧️she/her | Vio Rhyse AlberiaI mean. Booster Gold is a DC character so he's probably, like, bench-pressed sixteen universes while surviving an infinity-destruction ray that destroys all time and space.
My Tumblr. Currently liveblogging Haruhi Suzumiya and revisiting Danganronpa V3.Booster does have Super-Strength and. Force field via his suit, but he’s not that high tier.
One Strip! One Strip! Then bench-pressing only fourteen universes? Man, thats weak.
It is fully within his abilities to go back and strangle you in the crib. Which would work in MK. They establish that killing your younger self kills your future.

Speaking of MK should Liu Kang fight Ryu or someone else?

"I am Alpharius. This is a lie."I'm more partial to Liu Kang vs. Jago, myself.
Is this another part of pony friendship? Telling each other what you learned all the time?More Killer Instinct characters.
My various fanfics.
We could just say it's them in the middle of a Cross Tag Battle fight and be done with it.
Having the fight be already underway does solve the problem of explaining why they are fighting, by simply not doing so since it's not important.
