"Combo of Doom" starts at 1:10.
Basically, it's an EXTREMELY easy-to-execute combo which, on some stages (such as the one demonstrated) is instant death via Ring Out.
Favorite Scrappy? It's hard to say. Perhaps Necrid? He was a lot of fun to play as, regardless of how cheap he was in Soul Calibur II.
As for more obscure series, there's World Heroes as mentioned, which I thought was a spin-off of Hiryu No Ken/Flying Dragon, but I guess not? Speaking of that, I love the latter series, mostly the n64 installment. A beautiful blend of rpg/fighting, even if it suffered from cheap boss ideas, and getting items could be a pain in the butt without a cheat device. Plus, it had a glitch prevent the american users from getting every item.
As for Killer Instinct, I think it was more the extreme variation in characters compared to a lot of games. Glacier Men, Robots, Humans, Velociraptors. Not to mention, every character looked very well designed, to the point of being Stripperific or appealing to someone's fetish. But that didn't take away from the gameplay either. ...It was one of the first games to start the combo craze, which Street Fighter II ran with later installments. Albeit, the gameplay was not anything special, the computers were cheap, and the two main characters, Jago and Fulgore were both Shotoclones. Regardless, it was a fun variation of the genre at its times. Plus, the handheld installment wasn't extremely bad either.
Is it more like a Guilty Pleasure? Probably. But a new installment would be really nice. The SNES and N64 version were fondly remembered for just the Rule of Cool(for some). I liked all three home releases, and the Arcade versions were fun as well. I'm sure somebody might have other reasons for it, though.
Quest 64 threadMt gripes with fighting games has been basically been spelled out throughtout this whole thread. One thing, SNK Bosses why do they use those types? They only create those to torment the player.
I like the Super Smash Bros. series because it somewhat simpler than most fighting games and I don't havce to press 99 button combos to do execute a super awesome move.
"Thanos is a happy guy! Just look at the smile in his face!"Tall Man looks like an SNK boss. Little to no attack animations and that blood sucking sphere.
ALL CREATURE WILL DIE AND ALL THE THINGS WILL BE BROKEN. THAT'S THE LAW OF SAMURAI.You know, no SNK Boss will ever hold a candle to Hazama for me. Shao Kahn? Sure. Seth? Bring it on. Rugal? Not afraid. But i can stomp a hole into the ground with everyone in arcade Blaz Blue without breaking a sweat, and as soon as i get to Hazama he basically just laughs at me. Like a snake getting challenged by a cricket. I beat him once with Iron Tager and not only did i get the bad ending, i have no idea how i actually did it.
Bleye knows Sabers.I want to love Arc System Works fighters. I want to. But their 1 player modes do not begin to define unfair.
ALL CREATURE WILL DIE AND ALL THE THINGS WILL BE BROKEN. THAT'S THE LAW OF SAMURAI.I don't mind a boss that's tougher than the player characters. So long as they are never undefeatable. It is also nice when they have a weakness. By weakness I don't mean the computer player's flaws, I mean real game play weaknesses.
Giga Bowser can't be thrown, is stronger than a giant Bowser and has extra effects to his attacks but he cannot jump from the ground in a game centered around jumping. That is a pretty good boss. Unknown from Tekken Tag was good. Large life bar, Regenerating Health, and unpredictable moves only meant some moves were completely boneheaded to make, like most of King's grapples but as a single opponent against a tag team, was reasonable.
After Tekken pleased me by avoiding this trope along came Jinpachi Mishima, among the worst fighting game bosses. If the computer so chooses, he is unbeatable, there is nothing a human player can do about it except hope the computer chooses not to be an asshole, and even fighting "Fairly" most players have to resort to flaws in the AI to beat him. Of coarse Mike Tyson set the standard for how not to make a fighting game boss decades ago, instead things somehow managed to get worse since Punch Out, not better but at least Nintendo seems to have learned its lesson.
Modified Ura-nage, Torture RackI'm glad I'm not the only one who thought the Dynamite Punches were metric fuckton trucks of stupid a punch each.
ALL CREATURE WILL DIE AND ALL THE THINGS WILL BE BROKEN. THAT'S THE LAW OF SAMURAI.I know I really hate those so called 'unbeatable' bosses that unblockable moves and pull off insanely incredible moves even better than the likes of Daigo. Seriously, the AI needs to be reasonable as well as challenging.

"Thanos is a happy guy! Just look at the smile in his face!"@ Shirow Shirow: Hazama is bad yes , but nothing compared to the ungdodly hell that is Parace L sia
Is that to vent your frustration? I love how red's power bar never rose above one while the elf's bar kept fluctuation in numbers and didn't stop throwing things even at zero. I didn't bother to watch the whole video because of how one sided it was.
Modified Ura-nage, Torture RackParace is one of the few characters in AH I like, due to not being/looking like a loli. But yeah she's cheap.
You guys would love NGBC bosses then.
Though to be fair, this guy in the vid was playing a mode where only one character is needed to be KO'd for a game over rather than the normal both. But still the bosses are hard either way.

Rugal: Genocide cutting you since '94.
@Demongodof Chaos Fought Parace two days ago, tried about a dozen time before I said "fuck this shit".
speaking of AH; am I the only one who thinks that Ragnarok is the epitome of fake difficulty?
"I'll show you fear, there is no hell, only darkness." My twitterSo i started playing some Street Fighter Alpha 3 with my shiny new emulator, and even set the button configuration on my controller to match the Street Fighter IV setup. It's pretty fun, the big colorful sprites are far and away a pretty big departure from the sleeker King Of Fighters visuals or the blockier Street Fighter II era. Not to mention the digitized Mortal Kombat actors i grew up with. The characters are a good mix of the familiar faces like Sagat and Sakura and the oddball like Birdie and Sodom. Chun-li and Cammy have new old looks, which is a fresh take on them for me. The -isms bring to mind the Power/Speed dynamic from The Last Blade which i really love. Also i learned something very important about myself while i played.
I freaking SUCK at Street Fighter Alpha 3.

Bleye knows Sabers.Have you learned to hate M.Bison yet? I think he may have been my very first SNK Boss. If not, he was the first one with no continues.
Modified Ura-nage, Torture RackSNK Boss? I haven't gotten past the first couple of fighters! I'm getting beaten by the first challenger and you are telling me this game has an SNK Boss!?
FFFFFFFFFUUUUUUUUUU-
Bleye knows Sabers.Shin Bison/Final M. Bison. Just as cheap as normal Bison, but with a version of the Psycho Crusher that goes FULL SCREEN and takes off about 3/4 of your health; I believe it's unblockable. The only way to avoid it to use a high-priority move that goes through with exact timing (i.e. Shoryuken, Guy's Bushin Senpuukyaku, Akuma's Ashura Senkuu, etc.) or get lucky with a wall jump (like I did with Guy). He also has a secret ISM with the Shadaloo insignia on it that is exclusive to him and recharges his meter extremely quickly.
"Oh no, Sanji's Chronic Simprosis!" - Kou The MadFinal Bison ahhhh yes, very cheap. His music is among the best in the game though.
I recommend dropping SFA 3 and practicing on a game with a fair AI. Art of Fighting 2 is the absolute best game for this, trust me. Play it until you feel relaxed and confident, then go back to SFA 3.
Except [condescending response follows]. Because [sarcasm here]. You do understand [snark], right? POTHOLE TO SARCASM MODE
lolno
My options for playing fighting games haave just been blown wide open because i FINALLY got MAME working, with Kaillera no less, so i can play online. Unfortunately i've been playing Alien Versus Predator and Battle Circuit all night so i won't be able to play all those awesome fighting games that are awesome that i've been told are awesome until tommorow. Because, you know, it's two in the morning and i have a massive headache.
Bleye knows Sabers.
