Kory: i will need to do some more testing to see if the 500KB should be lowered even more but either way everyone can relax because the database will not crash or implode in anyway due to page size so splitting pages isn't a huge priority and is just more of a suggestion. For pages that actually load slow, splitting the pages will help slower internet users navigate these pages better.
It looks like pages over 500,000 characters (html formatted, that is) are crashing the server when someone tries to edit them. programmer's whine
They need to be fixed, anyway. Way too big for one page. They need to be broken up into subpages of a reasonable size.
I'm trying to get better about communicating before big changes, so we'll let this one run for a while before taking the action. The server crashes do come under the heading of 'urgent', though.

Wow, I wouldn't have expected a 40s radio show that aired on television for only four or five years, neither of whose incarnations I ever heard of, to get that big. To put it in perspective, it's Trope Kilowicked and I Love Lucy isn't. I know There Is No Such Thing as Notability, but this doesn't seem like the sort of thing that I'd expect to hit typical troper sensibilities.
If there's no shoehorning going on and no use in or ability to separate tropes by medium, it's really close which side of the J's a two-way split would fall on, but either way both pages would come out over 340 KB so I don't know if we'd want to go straight to a three-way split or more.

I would recommend a cleanup to remove misused tropes first. After that, we can decide where to split.

the page seems to have been primarily edited by one person, johnsmithxxi, over the course of seven years; i guess being that thorough of an Entry Pimp gets you this as a logical conclusion. pretty remarkable honestly. from a brief once over it seems like all the tropes are being used appropriately, though there are a handful of zero-context examples
And I Love Lucy, at 924 wicks, doesn't seem to be fully crosswicked, such as the Tablecloth Yank entry...
