YMMV / Velma Meets the Original Velma

Go To

  • Alas, Poor Scrappy: It is no secret that the 2023 version of Velma isn't a particularly beloved character but seeing her getting brutally slaughtered after discovering the Awful Truth plus The Reveal she was actually the original Velma who has become nothing but a flawed shadow of her original herself after so many recreations makes her final fate rather tragic.
  • Alternate Character Interpretation: Why does Scooby kill the gang every time they learn his speech? Do the gang abandon or attempt to commit or kill him afterwards? Do they try to look into his origins?
  • Fridge Brilliance:
    • The premise of Scooby remaking his universe repeatedly paints all of the reboots in a whole new light; they are all made for Scooby to enjoy spending time with the four people who are his closest companions.
    • With the Armor-Piercing Question in mind, it's likely the reason that reboots added characters like Scrappy-Doo to the lineup was so that it was harder to question the premise of talking animals. This explains why Scooby was pretty much silent until The Reveal to blend in properly, since, if he doesn't talk to begin with, Velma can't question it again.
    • This animation gives a solid brilliance on why Scooby is not in the 2023 Velma universe. Since the catalyst of every universe resets is always the Armor-Piercing Question, Scooby wants to test: What if he's just a normal pup, separate from the team? His intention is to test if no one will ask about how he can talk. Scooby then tries his best to be a non-talking pup and has kept the charade until Norville finds him. But along the way, Scooby has realized just how flawed this Scooby-less universe, so even if he succeeded in his original goal to ensure nobody asked the Armor-Piercing Question, he finds another reason why he needs to restart again.
      • The reason why Scooby returned may not just be due to Norville just happening to find and adopt him, but Scooby deliberately integrating himself into the group to be a Positive Friend Influence on Velma and the others, as well to steer the plot back to the classic mysteries.
  • Fridge Horror:
    • The speculation that Scooby himself may be just as trapped in the cycle as everyone else is. As theorised by one of the comments on the video, the original gang could've easily accepted any answer Scooby gave, but he couldn't take that chance because of a big human trait he had; a fear of being known. This fear and arrogance makes the whole thing become a tearjerker, as Scooby inadvertently doomed himself and several innocents in an endless cycle of heartbreak that only began as a result of that Armor-Piercing Question, eventually forgetting how to move on.
      • Alternatively, the gang, or at least the original gang, may have freaked out when they learned that Scooby could talk and abandoned him, or even tried to kill him or turn him to the authorities, forcing him to kill them.
    • Seeing that the newer and newer versions of the gang have become increasingly worse, at what point are they going to be so bastardised that Scooby gives up on them and permanently kills them off?
  • Heartwarming Moments:
    • While there aren't a lot of these in this animation, the beginning of the animation is surprisingly sweet, as Norville had found Scooby outside the gang's place and didn't hesitate to take him in. It just goes to show that, no matter the iteration, Shaggy and Scooby-Doo are still lifelong pals. Shame this doesn't last long...
    • As many comments pointed out, a surefire way of never getting asked that Armor-Piercing Question would be to stop bringing Velma back. However, despite being an Eldritch Abomination, Scooby loves her too much to do so.
    • Twisted as his love is, Scooby still loves the current iteration of Velma despite her flaws, and makes sure to assure her (or maybe himself) of that, explains his situation to her and tries to calm her down before executing her as quickly as possible.
  • Hilarious in Hindsight:
    • Or Harsher in Hindsight depending on who you ask. Some months after the release of this short, the now cancelled Scooby-Doo! and the Mystery Pups promotional material showed that the titular Mystery Pups resembled Fred, Daphne and Velma implying they are dogs in this particular series, as some fans have pointed out, this actually fits perfectly with the story presented in the video, as Scooby turning most of the gang in dogs, including Velma in this reality, could be a reasonable solution to avert the Armor-Piercing Question from happening.
    • The second season of Velma ended up having a surprisingly similar premise to this short, but with Scrappy as the horrific dog creature instead of Scooby, all the way down to the season ending with Velma dead at his paws.
    • Shortly after Velma’s release of Season 2, it was announced that another Scooby-Doo reboot is planned, but this time in live action. Here’s hoping they don’t question Scooby’s ability to speak this time…
  • It Was His Sled: The short not actually being about the original Velma meeting the 2023 Velma is well known.
  • Jerkass Woobie:
    • Velma, who starts the video of making a crack about Fred's tiny white dick. However, she spends the rest of the video being terrified by Scooby, loses all her friends and gets murdered.
    • Arguably Scooby. He's an Animalistic Abomination that has his friends and the whole world trapped in an endless cycle of death and resurrection but he only does it out of wanting to live in a world where he can enjoy adventures with those he loves without the worry of having to live with the consecuences of the Gang starting questioning his true nature.
  • Nightmare Fuel: The entire animation full-stop, with several key moments.
